How much was tracing a part of your early work? Was it encouraged or discouraged?

All of my early early work was not traced (any stencils on the tracing paper or middle/high school projects ) , i wasn’t pressured too much but I definitely pressured myself a little to make sure I learned how to draw things myself just for practice. Now these days, I really only trace if I have to do a flower piece or if someone wants a specific cartoon pose/scene.
But with the style I specialize in now, it requires soooooo much customization, so there’s like never any tracing.
