Even if it's low by modern standards, 18,000 candela is plenty of throw for 990/0.
That 2,000 lumen is sweet for so many reasons
You have reviewed just about every item I’ve bought. You’re my go to guy for reviews and news📰 in the firearm world. Thank you!! You’re “That Guy”!!
It’s like to see a candela comparison of all the reputable lights across the lake on that shack. That would be a good video. I know 9-hole did one but water adds an extra reflective element to the situation.

Also this.... 3rd
I have the 1st Gen handheld and it’s been a great light. Use it mostly when hunting or working on vehicles. It’s never failed me, and it’s nice to be able to just plug it in on the nightstand.
I use a stream light stinger at work, and have thrown it a few times, because cars sometimes suck to work on, and it works really good. Stream light makes good lights.
I appreciate the review @Mrgunsngear Channel! I love my stream lights! I run tlr1's and tlr7's of the A and sub types on several pews. Always had great luck with them.
On an unrelated note...... Did I hear Crowder right? That you're teaming up with LWC? If so, damn I'm excited for it!
Take care Mike!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!!! 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I like it. I'm glad Streamlight has smartened up and has a mode that starts off low.
I made a comment a while ago about how fast you were talking. I don't know if you saw it or not, but since then, you've really figured out a solid pace. Your videos seem wayyy less jittery now. Props
Great review. As usual!
Oh! I just bought the non-weapon light version and I went right to your channel to watch a review. It won't arrive until the second week in June but I'm pumped.
Great job, as usual! Thanks again brother for your help and education of everything that "we people" use! Thanks again brother! Oh love your daily deals email!!!
The johnny sins of guntube
Great and helpful review.
I think for the size and weight I'd still go for the Protac HLX. Slightly higher candela and never felt like it was lacking on lumens. I'm also not a fan of proprietary batteries.
Share the same sentiment. The added lumens is nice, but I think I'd still prefer the Protac HLX. Not sure if the newer ones come with the new tailcap, but all it needs is the new tailcap and maybe more candela and you'd have a perfect light.
@@nmtay I wonder if streamlight sells the new tailcap itself. I'd be willing to try and see if it fits the hlx
@@nmtay adapters exist to make the HLX work with Surefire tailcaps.

Without watching the video, as soon as this got announced, I knew I needed one.
You have a beautiful view of your lake sir
Had an issue w my streamlight hlx1000. They sent me a new light 6 days after shipping out their warranty is pretty good. I’ll def buy from them again
Another great video!!!
Bought one for a weapon light. Wow a wonderful light. Only Con is the detachable switch cable. Murphy is real. The bigger pro is the external charging of the battery. Use several other lights and might just buy a few more of the Pro TAC 2.0. Taking it off to remove tail cap with switch. The Pro Tac 2.0 headlamp is interesting as well.
Excited for the Crowder Team up.
Great review, wish it was compared to Streamlight ProTac Rail Mount HL-X USB.
Ty Mr GnG!
Excited to hear about the move! Well done Sir!
Came for the light review. Subbed for the shirt.
My 10 year old Streamlight TLR-1 has been good to me and still bright to this day
Love your weapon light videos! Might you be able to do 1 on the Fenix GL19R or any of their other tactical lights that could be mounted to a long gun rail? I have a couple of their EDC flashlights and love them, so I'm curious how their tactical and weapon lights hold up to streamlight or surefire.
i have a hand held stremlight protac 1l-1aa i would definitely recommend.
I would have liked to see it compared to the Rail Mount HLX (1.0) as that is very comparable light that many people have already.
Cool review. Many years ago I had a Surefire direct knockoff brandname called Sunfire that was still premium, but about half the cost. Still around it seems, but like many china items, production runs seem limited to what is trending. Now Streamlight is a absolute Unit of a brand I have been around enough that I would probably trust my life to it. One place was in a heavy commercial auto center where I was doing transmission work. The daily torture of submersion in used trans oil and grime while being kicked around, left on, battery neglect, hot engines, you name it, absolutely sold me on why many top techs own several. The Snap-on guy wouldn't promote anything else and that is a whole 'nother perspective from all their customers. I believe Surefire is just paying for the name when it comes to their lights and the approach to construction between them and Streamlight seems to be solidly different also. For my setup right now, I want to put a cloud defensive micro in a mount, though I would have no issue sticking with a brand like this that I have actual experience with.
Plumbing is my full time job and along with my Milwaukee headlamp, I also have a extra streamlight protac HL-X that I have been using for the last few years, and that thing has impressively held up even in the roughest of elements and environments. I’ve drop that thing in toilets, sewers, mud, off ladders, etc. etc. and it has never failed me once and the run time has been phenomenal. I don’t even take it out of my truck and it never fogs/hazes up through hot or cold seasons. All I’ve ever had to do in regards to maintenance, is blast it with simple Green, scrub and rinse. Plus it’s surprising how much I utilize the rail mount as a hanger in most situations.
Yeah, I went and researched some lights after commenting and I may have meant Matco instead lf Snap-on, because I see they have a branded Streamlight. Thanks for backing up my comment with your mirrored experience. I seen this morning someone's problems with Cloud defensive products as a mechanic/gun guy, so you can still pay more and get less it seems.
@@timparkhurst8661 yep I have a couple of those steam lights for my guns and definitely have lots of confidence in them. Plus there Customer service is excellent. I have a TLR-2 that I broke the lens on due to my negligence, and they sent me a whole new light bezel for no charge. I bought that thing for $150 used and it still works like a champ.
Now to rewind and watch this from the start
Looks like a good light. I just can't get into proprietary batteries. That turned me off to it immediately. I don't see any advantage to it. Only limitations. Especially when you consider that Modlite has vastly higher candela output (more important on a rifle to me) and uses commonly available 18650s or CR123A. Still the better streamlight is their dual fuel options, even with the lower lumen output. Just my opinion.
Nailed it imo. With so many guns these days having proprietary parts, I can't imagine having to worry about a proprietary battery.
I’d normally, but this being a rechargeable light has made this no longer a concern for me.
@@mbealhighjump power outages🤷♂ it's nice to be able to have a back up disposable battery option.
Love my streamlights. Great qualitt fair price
I'm a stream light fan their the best light for the money !
Best mount for Streamlight tape-switches, including the two-button, pad/button switch is the Cloud Defensive LCS mount in polymer. Same function as the companies $70 aluminum but in a $40 polymer construction. Easier to mount and WAY easier to re-position than the options that come from Streamlight. I'm my department's armorer, we have about 100 sworn with individual issue rifles. I'm the armorer, I mount and re-mount the Streamlight Pro-Tacs a LOT based on shooter preference. The rubber mounts from Streamlight are solid enough, but they do eventually wear out as you pry them off and re-position them. The Cloud Defensive mount is an easier option for rail mounting and incorporate some cable management in the panels. I use them for my Surefire single pad tape-switches on my rifles and love them.
I prefer the dual streamlight switch with built in pic mount, basicly a copy of the surefire UE-SR07
I use stream light for everything, I work out in the dark sometimes and have one of their lights I can use while I work, I use their headlamps, TLR-7x2, TLR-1. I wont try and say it's better than a light that comes in at twice as much. But they work for me. I keep fresh batteries in them pretty regularly. I understand their capabilities too.
Ditto
A bit off topic, but I would really enjoy seeing an updated concealed carry video if much has changed since the last video on that subject.
Great video, but including a comparison to the H-LX (100 lumen) would have been nice.
Besides the new tail cap this is a step back. IMO
I dropped my protac hlx 1000 lumen light down 13 stories onto gravel and it was still on when I retrieved it. It's fallen off tanker trucks onto concrete countless times before that.
I have pressure pads from my LS117 Lasers. I used one for my TLR RM2 R. I bet this Protac 2.0 will work with Holosun LS117 Pressure Pad system.
Thank you Sir
Will that tail cap work on their other wml's? If you know.
I am way behind, but I just ordered one of these lights for the rifle I recently ordered.
I like it. I know it’s not high candela but what could you not do with that.
I have a 1000 lumina protac HLP that I love as a hand held, as well as the little pocket buddy that is always in my pocket. I can't imagine needing a stronger light as my HLP will light up stuff over 300 yards away. Sadly that light has been discontinued.
A perfect addition to the Streamlight is the tape-switch mount from Schaffer Machining.
Sticking with Modlite for now.
Great video though!
Streamlight is such a great value. Great review.
So I’ll buy the TLR-1HL thanks
It’s a chonky boy, but for the price it’s hard to beat. I surefire rifle and pistol lights that have been put through ringer over the years and just keep working.
looks like I found my next shotgun weapon light
I love streamlight.
Definitely a good starter light. Hard to beat for the price and option
It’s the tape switch the same size as the old one? Will it fit in the clouds defensive tape switch mount for streamlight? Thanks!!!!
Heavy
Did they fix the flickering issue under recoil that the HLX had?
Please do a review on the ProTac Rail Mount HL-X Pro (non 2.0).
I need a green light for night hunting. Any tips?
Streamlight makes an excellent light. I even prefer the TLR1-HL over my comparable SF light. But how do they still make lights that are so “un-sleek” and borderline fugly??
Can you use sure fire pressure switch?
Just curious, why not compare to the pro tac HLX? Seems like a more apples to apples compariso.
Didn't see it with the drop test but does it suffer from the "streamlight flicker" while shooting?
Rather have a further throw then brightness but for home defense this would absolutely melt someones eyeballs. Streamlights are great
Can confirm that this light literally melts eyeballs within 15 feet
it most definitely hurts@@xstevenx8132
Like my Lumintop FW1A Pro. XP50 LED. One 18650. A wall of light at 3500 lumen turbo for a short time before it steps down from heat. 1400 lumen on high.....
So it seems the switch port is compatible with aftermarket options, if I am understanding correctly. When I was looking at this light a few weeks back, I couldn’t find any info on if the switch port was proprietary or not.
It does appear huge.
Does the old tape switch cap work with the new light?
When will they make a high candela version?
What watch are you wearing? Looks interesting!
I have 1 of these on My range AR. Still running strong. The one I have is duel fuel. So thankfully I can use batteries if there's no grid. I do wish I could narrow the hotspot a little. That would be My only small complaint.
Do you know if the tailcap fits the streamlight hlx?
I would of liked to see the original protac vs 2.0
So I ordered the weapon mount version from opticsplanet but was disappointed, it is much too big and too heavy for weapon light but it would make a GREAT handheld flashlight or truck flashlight especially if your cell phone charger is also USB C!!
I love streamlight but they definitely dropped the ball on this one. Love the idea of the tail cap since I run the surefire version of them. They should have made them be able to take the mod button, hot button and the surefire switches. Just the most common plug pattern. And the candela is garbage for today's market. And that battery sucks. If your going to change the battery like that make it worth it with killer specs
Its been the same battery for over a decade used in all their lights. Plus it accepts 2 cr123 batteries
@@Mr.Mikey.Holiday I didn't say anything about the batterys. I said they should have went with the industry standard tail cap which would be a surefire compatible tail cap. But they did not so anyone that runs night vision will never run this light along with many other people that don't run night vision. I have two sitting in a drawer will probably never use them again
I stand corrected for what its worth. And yes i agree with you.
Doesnt arisaka make a tailcap conversion?
@@Mr.Mikey.Holiday not that I'm aware of. I could be wrong about that but last I looked no one made one. Yet anyway
As a handheld light, I don't mind the proprietary battery. But and a wml, I do mid it because I already have other lights with 18650s. So that's a small deal breaker. Also, I love the new end cap, similar to the surefire DS00 tailcap that is expensive. But, from what I gathered it's a proprietary tape switch plug which is the final deal breaker for me. I try surefire, modlite, arisaka and malkoff products all the time because they are all universal. But all the proprietary stuff and the abysmal candela rating, It's going to be a no from me dawg.meme this isn't 2015 anymore, people care about candela now.
I just switched to this as my handheld from my cloud defensive MCH. My weapon lights can be high candela, but handhelds need more lumen imo. This thing will absolutely kill it especially for the size.
It's always comical to see the Surefire snobs come out when you do a video like this!!! Haha Sadly where I live, there's people with sense and people who put a Walmart light on their pistol that doesn't have a holster. I've had em all and honestly Streamlight has been the ONLY one to be reliable. I've got an older Surefire handheld, it takes $8 bucks in batteries and barely last an hour Lol this one does seem alittle in the wrong direction but whatever, it looks great but I'm not sure why they didn't do it in the RML body.
Do you think this light will work with scout mlok mounts?
Does the potac 2.0 light pad and rear cap fit the protac 1.0 ?.
I want it, I just hate that the good tape switches everyone makes aren't immediately compatible.
Maybe I missed it. But does anyone know if the Mod light pressure pads will work with this light?
2000 lumens is great, was really excited. Then saw that the candella was just too low for a rifle at 17,700. Im stull looking at the olight warrior x3, which comes in at 2500 lumens and 78,00 candella. Also, a proprietary battery on the streamlight, hard no.
thanks for the report
Thanks... good review. The wall of light has its use.
I need the tailcap available separately or the HL-X changed over to this new tailcap. I want CR123 and standard 18650 dual fuel functionality, and the fact that this doesn't have it is a deal breaker.
I'm a huge fan of the PowerTac brand lights. They do a great job of finding the balance between lumens and candela. I use the E9R-G4 for patrol when I'm at work.
Do you know if a Modlite Modbutton connects to that streamlight tail cap ?
Is the streamlight tape switch the only one compatible with these tail caps? The one that came with my hlx pro is straight junk and flickers when you pull the trigger on an empty chamber and sometimes doesnt even come on.
Where did you get the killdozer shirt
@mrgunsngear Mike, what’s an acceptable degree of cant for a weapon mounted light from your perspective from parallel with the rail and barrel? Do you ensure that your weapon mounted lights are mounted perfectly parallel?
If you have your gun sighted in. It’s easy enough to look down your sights to see if you are lit appropriately. They are machined to the specific cant from the factory (you would have to be pretty handy to adjust) and I’ve never had an issue but there are aftermarket scout mounts that you could use to change the cant if you had to.
Take a look at the Thrunite TN12 Pro. It's chinesium but it's a really good for a budget option
thanks for the report
Tell us whether we should look for more lumens or candela! You are the expert! Or tell us why we would look for one or the other... love your videos tho!
I think he has a video on that.
Hey what offset Mount are you using with that light?
Don't know if I heard correctly 🤔 but Are you going to Mugclub? 🤘🏻🇺🇸
I got one a couple weeks ago. Seems like a solid option since I don’t mind an extra couple ounces to save 150 bucks. However I didn’t realize it took proprietary batteries and I’m not a fan of that. Maybe someone can make an aftermarket adapter to solve that issue. Idk I’m going to just run it on my DMR build and see how it holds up long term.
Do you have a streamlight HL-X as well? I want to know if the new dual switch tailcap will fit on the HL-X
@@jth_printed_designs this!! I have a hlx and was wondering if i can just but the cap.
👍👍
👍👊🔥
Is it still a scout mount?
Is this a good police Duty light?
Is the remote switch TLR compatible?
Quick question - Has Streamlight fixed the flickering issue on the 2.0?
The HLX out of the box has a flickering issue that is fixable by either rigging it with your own O-rings (which is iffy) or spending another $80 on the Arisaka adapter along with the Surefire clicky cap. If you want the Surefire tape switch add another $80.
Even with the Arisaka adaptor and Surefire cap with the Unity button ….. 🗣️I STILL GET THE FLICKER DUDE! It’s sickening! I’m almost ready to go SureFire at this point! It’s super annoying. If anyone has found a solution please let me know !!
Nope. I just bought a 2.0 like a week ago new in package from Brownells, freaking love my Streamlight pistol lights, but am rather disappointed in the 2.0 rifle light. First thing I noticed is that anytime it barely gets bumped while on, it flickers. I've heard this is common in proprietary battery and duel fuel lights... bit bummed tbh.
This review really brightened my day.
Dad game 11/10
It's nice Streamlight is giving people options but they need to release something that competes with Modlite in candela.
Yep. This just makes Streamlight look out of touch with the market.
