    Avenged Sevenfold - Almost Easy

    itunes.apple.co...
    This cover was recorded between 30 August 2010 and 1 September 2010 as part of The Fuego Series, released early 2011. NO drum replacement or triggering was done in this series, what you hear is just a mixed version of a 100% acoustically produced track.

    Any day I get to whip out the heel-toe is a GOOD day. The reason I don't overlay the FootCam as much anymore, is because it feels like people have seen it, and you know how I do it.. so it doesn't make sense to keep showing it :)
    We recorded this song almost at the very end of the session, mostly because I was scared of it.. I had rehearsed it a few times before, but it's such an incredibly tiring and intense drumming part that I couldn't help but avoid it until the end :) SO much fun to play, though.

    Most of his "covers" are not covers, like his other cover of Afterlife, he even states in the info that 90% of the song is improv, he likes having a good time, and he makes these songs his own in a unique way. He is a fantastic drummer, and if he was being paid to do a true cover, i bet he would, but since its for fun, and for his enjoyment he does his own thing.

    I feel insane every single time
    I'm asked to compromise
    'Cause I'm afraid and stuck in my ways
    And that's the way it stays
    So how long did I expect
    Love to outweigh ignorance?
    By that look on your face
    I may have forced the scale to tip
    I'm not insane, I'm not insane
    I'm not insane, I'm not, not insane
    (I'm not)
    Come back to me, it's almost easy
    (Set it off)
    Come back again, it's almost easy
    Shame pulses through my heart
    From the things I've done to you
    It's hard to face but the fact remains
    That this is nothing new
    I left you bound and tied
    With suicidal memories
    Selfish beneath the skin
    But deep inside I'm not insane
    I'm not insane, I'm not insane
    I'm not insane, I'm not, not insane
    (I'm not)
    Come back to me, it's almost easy
    (Set it off)
    Come back again, it's almost easy
    (You learned your lesson)
    Come back to me, it's almost easy
    (It's still your fault)
    Come back again, it's almost easy
    Now that I've lost you, it kills me to say
    (Hurts to say)
    I've tried to hold on as you've slowly slipped away
    I'm losing the fight, I've treated you so wrong
    Now let me make it right
    (Make it all right)
    I'm not insane, I'm not insane
    I'm not insane, I'm not, not insane
    (I'm not)
    Come back to me, it's almost easy
    (Set it off)
    Come back again, it's almost easy
    (You learned your lesson)
    Come back to me, it's almost easy

    I don't understand how anyone could dislike this video. His performance is spot on and the production value of the video is beautiful. The only explanation I can think of is that someone personally doesn't like Cobus, or they don't like A7X - which should have no bearing because the video is a display of someone's technical ability and acts as an educational tool. Either that or someone just wanted to see a negative review on a flawless performance just for kicks. Regardless, Cobus is one of the most impressive and entertaining drummers around today.

      Cobus is definitely good but is he capable of helping write A7X material? I thought he was mostly a jazz-fusion guy, also, people might treat him like how they treated Arin, with hate and for no reason which wouldn't really be fair to him. I sometimes feel he should go for it but other times I feel he should worry just about his band and where they're at.

    • @TarbyRocks
      @TarbyRocks 9 лет назад +1

      +DkS398 The Jazz Fusion twist worked well for Megadeth, and especially considering how dry their last album was some jazzy influence could be considered welcome, maybe even bringing them back to that twisted sorta vibe of the City Of Evil/Self Titled eras.
      Plus, considering he makes the songs and beats his own with ease, i don't think he'd have much issue fitting in with the guys, so long as they (and the fans) don't make it too difficult.

      ***** Followers of Cobus know that this specific Drum Cover Series was specifically meant to be minimalistic. Meaning, he wanted to show that he had the ability to make drum covers that remained true to the original drum tracking with minimal variation / creativity. Sometimes, a musician needs to show restraint. All of his other series are completely different. If you watch any of the other series, you will see that he is indeed "special." He is a self taught drum that has all the right qualities. He's technical, he has great timing, but most of all, he's passionate. He loves playing and he enjoys himself. So yes, he should be in a kick ass band touring the world right now. Instead, he landed a job at Drum Channel and moved from South Africa to California where he gets to work along side Terry Bozzio educating musicians around the world and spreading the craft he is so passionate about. If you ask me, he's doing pretty damn good for himself.

  • @Rimpianto

    I think he showed us a lot of what he's capable but now it's time to get serious to make it to the next level.
    Do something from Tool, Rush, even Sting's "Seven Days", anything that is more complicated than 4\4.

      dream theater, gojira would also be great

    • @Hotshot2414
      @Hotshot2414 10 лет назад +2

      Cobus plays what he believes sounds good, not what he believes is challenge and thinks he needs to live up to the expectation. He's recognized for his ability to improvise and I honestly believe improve the rhythmic aspect (drums specifically of course) of songs. Its one of the reasons I actually like listening to his Tik Tok cover for example. And with songs by Rush, Tool and Sting, sometimes its best to leave it as it is. Sometimes its hard to add to a song with so little room for additions, and some songs are best to be left alone when 'less is more' takes effects if you know what I mean.

    • @reydelmuerte
      @reydelmuerte 10 лет назад +1

      ofc you have a valid point there, but it would be nice seeing him taking his drumming to a new level. His vids are great, ive been watching them for a long time, but still, improving/expanding should be the goal of every musician ^^

    • @ProfessionalBob

      Hotshot2414 YYZ would be a good song to cover in my opinion. The drum solos could be massively edited to his own will.

    • @Rimpianto
      @Rimpianto 10 лет назад

      Hotshot2414 - Yes, some songs may be difficult to alter and I give you that, but there are also countless songs that are way more challenging than a7x and by covering them he could show us something more. Otherwise among professionals, read it again: professionals, he'll stay a decent\good drummer but nothing more. Give one reason, apart from covering popular song, why I should watch him instead of Donati (first one in my mind, pick your favourite).

    Hey, Cobus, don't get shaken by those 1.1K jealous haters, they're totally WAY OFFBASE. I'm sure of that because I've recorded Mike Portnoy before, at least three times, with John Petrucci, and Jordan Rudess by himself twice. Your footwork was exemplary, and this cover was outstanding. 'Almost Easy' itself with that double ride part is a much more difficult heavy rock selection to perform than many people realize. Prior to running FOH live sound at major venues, recording, and eventually becoming an Audio Mastering Engineer, I was a double technology Masters graduate from MIT and accomplished keyboardist that hung around with many musicians from Berkley in the Boston area. When I got tired of the 'think tank' jobs in my late 20's, I joined a touring rock band on the road with nine keyboards thru an exclusive booking agent out of Chicago. THAT agency would have hired you in a heartbeat for a tribute band, or any traveling progressive, or heavy rock group. Your chops appear to be outstanding, and taking the time to learn such an intense tune such as THIS one says a LOT about the determination and drive of an individual. I've heard MANY of your covers, and they ALL reflect the same standard...EXCELLENCE! I'm retired now, but I sure as hell can still recognize and separate bullshit from real talent. I believe YOU'RE the real deal kid. Best of luck in wherever you end up with for a group. FalconEddy
