Kaka means poo-poo in baby talk in some languages, fyi
Alex Alex Its a portugese name dumbass.
Jvex its not his name google him
Philip Meisterl haha it means "poop"
@@sdbo7102 you know nothing about football
best production quality videos out there , and real world reviews are just awesome
+Cody Bonner Thanks a lot Cody, we agree with you.
+Cody Bonner Agreed, the production quality easily beats the vast majority of reality TV shows.
THIS is how one reviews a D5, not from an angry couch or using garbage lens to justify how a DX would be a better buy!
+mas921 You must of watched the same video as saying you wasted your money if you bought the D5 over the D500. Maybe if they knew how to use this camera then the negative comments would not be so much about it. I watch some videos from a photographer and his wife that loves to shoot birds (wild life) and I wanted so much to leave a comment do you know how to use this camera in a polite way as I following a bird photographer on Facebook and his images from the D5 are fantastic compare to what he showed on the D5 .. I really think it comes down to the user and I jumped off the DX format since the D300 and went Full Frame why do I want to go back... what is the reason?
+james .mannequindisplay yup exactly! THAT video of a "photographer and his wife". I agree it depends on the user, for myself I would get the D500 as I prefer the smaller and lighter weight and most importantly am a Hobbiest (i do not get paid for my pics). besides the d500 now is closing the gap between FX and DX in ISO noise. With same AF as D5, and enough FPS but lighter and 1.5x reach, it makes sense to jump back into DX!
+mas921 d500 due to size and weight for me.
mas921 Get the D750. An AWESOME FX camera, even cheaper than D500, high ISO performance equal or greater than D500. Better AF than the D810. FX is better, and the FX camera most people should get is the D750.
Valtteri bhaskar get the D750,
7:48 you stood in front of a Legend
I agree Kaka is truly a legend lst in America.
+David Nikon lost in America.
KAKA
i bet you he never even knew kaka was right in front of him
You should have a channel dedicated to your real world reviews. I like your format the best. I feel I am learning a ton about your review gear as well as your shooting process. The best review execution on the web. THX!
So nice to see you judge actual prints from the camera rather than just looking at them on the computer, you are right when you say you can't see many issues on the prints I have a A1 print that was taken on a 13 year D100 and looks great.
Best review by far of this camera.
I would love Nikon to put the D810 sensor in the D5 body...
Incredible review! In-depth, thorough, honest, no bull and to top it all off, great photos! Despite the fact that it was 30 min, I sat through the whole thing because it was so good. There are RUclipsrs who post 6 min reviews that instantly make me snore. But this was some next level shit. I can tell you guys put in a great deal of effort and I appreciate that.
I looks like you are the only one that did proper D5 review for now. With lenses that will be on it in real life and shooting sport. Not landscape or travel photography..
+roki977 thanks, I agree!!!!
Not only was your review super thorough and full of information in a way that people can easily digest, your pictures are simply amazing. Keep up the good work guys!
That was a tremendous review, Jared, and very much appreciated by all of us. I hope you get to do a similar review with the Canon EOS 1DX II as it will be very interesting to compare the two.The Nikon D5 really impresses, but I am glad it brought me back down to earth with image noise. I thought there would be absolutely zero noise at ISO 6400 (it does go into the ISO millions, after all) and there is almost as much as on cheaper consumer cameras. That makes me feel a lot better about my cameras now LOL.Even still, amazing camera and tremendously fast at everything it does. One other passing comment is that I have seen your photography skills grow and grow over a period and that's very impressive too!
+cooloox thank you.
So this setup or a Lamborghini Aventador SV?
This setup.... Definitely
i definitely don't need a lamborghini ahahaha
The sv costs a bit more
both?
Fantastic review! Your production quality is really second-to-none!
You can clearly appreciate Todds hand. Perfect sound, regarding it was windy, and Jared really sticks out thanks to the light set up. Really enjoyed it.
This video was epic Jared! the best you ever did
That's a really great put down, right? Am I right? Right!
Hands down, bar none, the best review you've ever done. Good job!
+Darren Miles thanks Darren.
a 7000 Dollar camera on a 13000 Dollar lens makes 20000dollars.I bet not 10 people from the 261433 likes are gonna buy this stuff.
helthuismartin i have got a nikon d4 and d3s, with a 400mm lens, a 70-200mm lens and a 24-70mm lens. Expensive as fuck.
That's why we watch the videos. To enjoy a $20K rig, vicariously.
@@gewglesux What do you feel like you're accomplishing by lying on the internet? Does it make you feel better about yourself?
Not viable at all to buy, just rent. Even as professionals, I know photograhers who don’t own any camera gear and rent everything.
When it’s the client paying, you can afford to do that.
Buy a used Nikon d3 & Nikon 200-500 lens. Use crop mode at 750mm. Everything under 2000 dollars. Trust me I am photographer & I know ways to make budget cheaper. It will 99 percent of 20k camera when it comes to quality.
OK, I have to admit I did not really care how well the D5 would perform because I would never buy it: too expensive for me, but most of all I have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of Canon glass. So I'll never be able to move away from Canon.
But your review was FANTASTIC. You kept me watching right until the very last second! I wish you would review all the stuff I'm interested in, photography related or not.
Great work!
+www.alexatlani.com thanks, we will be doing more with all types of cameras.
Hi Jared! Thank you for doing this real world review... I love my D5! How do you answer a man like Jason Lanier who now says that any "real pro" will be using Sony and people like you and me are just plain "in denial about what the best camera in the world is"? He claims that he out shoots pros at the NFL etc... Do you have an opinion on that? I know it boils down to personal preference. Btw, if you get the CF card version, which I did, Nikon says you can have that module swapped out later on if you want XQD. Oh, have to edit/add... the PRINTS look absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!
+Frederick Dunn never heard of that guy. Who gives a shit what someone shoots with, if you get the shot you get the shot. But Sony doesn't have the glass just yet now do they. So a little sour grapes or hurt butt.
My favorite part of this reply is "never heard of that guy" :) agreed Jared! He, quote "has more shutter actuations than any photographer on the planet" (';')( ';').... Fro definitely Knows...
The print looked great! Bear in mind that even though the image was shot at 16000 ISO, it was then pushed 0.75 stops in Lightroom. In all, that is the equivalent of around 25000 ISO with the boost in post production. Very impressive...
Thanks Jared! Loved this review man. Can't wait to see your thoughts on the D500. I'm still waiting to upgrade my beloved D700.
Also, I love seeing how much and how successfully you've grown your channel, your business and your brand. Still keepin it real since the bedroom video days.
Jared you are just the biggest inspiration in the business. Your reviews are priceless
HORIZONTICAL is the best word yet.
I use 3D focus tracking successfully with my D3 and all other cameras except for the D750. Lock onto a face and as long as you hold down the shutter release halfway, it will stay with the face no matter what the subject does, even if another player gets in the way. It will go to where the subject should come out and it will lock on once more. It’s a knack that has to be practiced a few times and most don’t even try it.
shot with Nikon printed with Canon, thats team work people
+sadiq rahman exactly.
What about sony?
@@jeepjoseph9036 Maybe the song they were listening to while printing was from a Sony headphone (no offence)

what is the name of that stand attached to the lens? and big fan of yours you are my second go to reviewer for cameras second only to digital rev but for now you are no 1
He also said "feets" ;)
JKillerZs G you mean the tripod collar?
This is just spectacular, I love your real world reviews. Keep up the perfect work.
+Michal thanks Michal.
Great review, Jared! One can tell, you´re right in the middle of your element with the D5! Offering the RAW-files is an exceptional service, thanks!
Thank you, very informative. Shooting birds, launching herons puts my D5 through its paces. Shot a hummingbird @ 64000 iso, 1/8000, f/5.6 and got a keeper! Great camera.
What's the max print size at 64k?
@@polmacdhomhnaill3021 it's a d5 so pretty large
Really enjoy your videos Jarod! With the AF settings I would seriously try letting the camera use its own brain. One thing we learnt going from 1DMk4 to 1DX was the AF system is different and simply better and takes some "unlearning" so you don't bring old ideas to new technology.
The 1Dx simply doesn't miss in auto point selection using the multi points around to refine its tracking solution. Looks like Nikon have learnt that and employed it on the D5.
Anyway great reviews and looking forward to seeing what you think of 14FPS..lol...great stuff.
While most have panned the new camera this review was honest, fair and extensive. You put the pictures up and let others decide for themselves . Do you think that most shots you got with the D5 you would not have gotten with a D4S?
+Peragulator At the ISO's I shot at yes, I don' think the D4s would have gotten them.
Thanks for the compliment, we try hard to do it right.
I really like the the quality of your real world reviews with all the b-roll, music and microphone quality, especially in this noisy place.
+K3V0M thanks!!!
You likely answered your own question about why a very few of the images shown on your computer screen did not seem fully sharp in the face, leading you to question your technique. But you earlier indicated that the depth of field with a 600mm lens at f4 would have very shallow depth of field leading a foot focus to throw off potentially the focus on the face. I played with a depth of field calculator and the 600mm lens at f4 would have a depth of field of only 15 or so inches at what I estimate the distance to be to the player shown in your photo. So your technique is possibly fine, and the autofocus in the camera is possibly fine, but focus may have been a very small amount due to the focus point that was selected.
Could you do the same with de Canon 1DX mark II? or something similar
Excellent video!
A big hug from Chile!
+Kenneth Volgger I would love to see something similar with D500 too. Still not confident about the crop sensor. We have to agree the production quality is incredible. Cheers to froknowsphoto team.
Yo Fro bro...i know this is your passion, job, hobby, whatever....Your hard work is not lost. great stuff
Awesome. I am not sure if Jared realized that he was so close to KaKa, I think he is still one of the best corner takers. unfortunately he had a 600 on.
+Aditya Sharma I was told he is one of the best.
+Jared Polin Yeah he is. He used to play for Real Madrid.
7:46 .. OMG its kaká! take pictures of him!
my thoughts exactly.
+Chreeeys I had the same reaction! hahaha
+Chreeeys He don't know who is.
For your reviews about the D5 i bouhgt my Nikon D5 yesterday, and was a monster the ISOS are incredible....!!! Thanks Jared for your time to make an excellents videos....!!!
+Bunker1947 you're welcome. Enjoy the camera.
1) "AF continious focus", not "focus tracking" as that is different function.
2) You showed about 35 frames being a lot... well it is a lot but not really negative way as 3.5 seconds is fairly short in many sports if you can't anticipate the situation. But sure, it is a lot if you can and then example E-M1 51 raw buffer hasn't really been limitation for anyone with a fast card so D5 "limitless" will not be a problem (but not a bonus either as you don't need it).
3) DSLR shooters benefits a lot from red dot sights. This is the game with a 300-800mm where RDS is the tool that brings the keepers. a good calibration and good C-AF (not tracking) and you never miss a moment.
4) For my opinion I want to thank for these reviews as you can cut the crap about "more being superior" (like saying about "better shoot video at that moment..."). And IMHO, the video lights could be set little to warmer tone than correct white balance so tonality would be a nicer.
Cool Story... Now get your own channel know it all...
the BEST real world review you have produced.. subscriber for years
Super in-depth review as always, great to see you showing how the images printed, too. It reminds me as a photographer that sometimes what someone wants isn't an image that looks perfect at a 1:1 zoom on a computer, but instead something good they can put on their mantle, or hang on their wall.
Cheers again, Mr. Fro :)
+Lachlan Harman thanks lachlan!!!!
I love how you can hear the excitement about the camera in your voice!
$6500 excitement
10:07 "Try and find the subject' ....I have found that it is easier to find subjects with both eyes open. One looking through the lens and one to the outside of the camera. However with the GoPro attached that may be difficult. Your light comment... there is nothing you can do. When I first started following you it seemed like mostly portrait shots, studio stuff. It's great to see you outside in the' real world'
Looking forward to you doing real world test of the Canon 1Dx Mark Wii and Nikon D6. Don't sugar coat the Mark iii codec and video processing in post, including cost to actually use the footage.
It feels great in the hands.
That's what she said.
Great review!
Next time at a football match, bring the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6. Gives you a bit more flexibility.
Yo Fro, really liked this video. I am a season ticket holder at Blackpool FC soccer (football in the UK). When I see the photographers in the ground they have either the Canon or Nikon versions (maybe previous versions) of what you have and also another camera with a 70-200 lens so they can switch when the action is closer. Again great vid!
+Anthony Brady yup, I mentioned that somewhere in the video I think.
Great real world review! I agree at 21:30 it DOES seem like the face is just a tiny bit out. However, one could also make the argument that the shot is BETTER having the face be slightly out because it made the cleats, grass, ball and falling player in focus and that's where the real action of the shot is.
You mentioned there was "not much you could do about" the light changing on the player when he got close to you on the side. Why didn't you choose to go auto-iso while shooting the rest in manual? It's fantastic for situations when the light changes so quickly that you would have to constantly adjust it.
+Phathom Perhaps because he wanted to be in control of the ISO as he shot so he could pick and choose specific values for the test.
So cooool, and yeah Kaka ❤
+As1m #10
can't believe you had KaKá in front of you and couldn't get a nice tight shoot of him. as far as the camera, is awesome, I can't agree more when you say that good tools in the right hands deliver awesome results. good job Fro!
+Hugo Quijada I didn't know he was so special but my camera guy told me he was.
Right... A bit of a soccer head here! Thank you for the education/inspiration you put out there into the world.
11:35...horizontical? 🤣 love the video Jared
Great job Jared! I was very exited as well when I went out to test this camera myself. I'm not a brand photographer I have Canons and Nikons, but I've got to say, Nikon really nailed this time around with the auto-focusing and the sensor, the focusing tracking is unbelievable and the noise at high ISO is awesome, not to mention the other features. The out of focus situation you were mentioning is all about DOF and of course where the sensor picked the focus, remember the big glasses have a very shallow DOF especially when fully open, shooting bodies moving at high speed and limbs all over is not an easy situation. Again, great job, and thanks for sharing! Keep up with the good work!
+Really? thanks!!!
Football*
+Yussnan84 It's in the US, so it's soccer.
+cubs197 Football*
It's "association football", abbreviated soccer in many parts of the world where that specific set of football-rules aren't predominant.
It's hard to take anyone seriously when they have an anime picture for the profile
Gamebreaker08 not meaning to be rude, but it's not anime.
Quite possibly my favourite review. You come across as so human and sincere. Your reviews today are too produced and glossy. I also forgot how Nikon you were back in the good days.
Love your videos. Especially real world stuff so cool how you integrate so many Angles. And you talk through what you are asking yourself when shooting. I learn so much from you.
Dear Jared, I shoot for AFP and AP wire and I must say the images you took with your D5 are quite impressive as far as the camera is concerned .
The image quality at 64k and 12k are excellent. Now the question is, it any better than a D4s that one can justify the extra cost hmm debateable.
Now I would like to see do the same senirio using your new D500. Now that would be very interesting.
I'm grateful for the videos like this, I have a d7100 and can't afford the newest camera but you keep your editing open on the side and I can push my self and my gear to get the best images possible and know that even with the best camera and glass you need to bring back some images and make some pop, so many people refuse to change images on the computer at all. I'm building a portfolio and this helped me with action shots both in my camera and editing. thank you :)
I bought the D5 the last month, for the moment, i have just an old manual 300mm f/2.8, but even this that old guy, it's just amazing ! I can't wait to invest in a modern lens like the 500mm f/5.6 PF or sigma 60-600mm, or, in second hand, a 600mm f/4 or 800mm f/5.6 (or a sigmonster 300-800mm f/5.6)... Really great review !
Your real world review videos are by far my favorite form of reviews! Well done!
FOCUS ISSUE> Hey Jared, I shoot sports with a Canon 300 2.8 and I think the only reason some of those areas are a little soft is because of lack of contrast in that area of the image. With so many focus points, it seems to me that the camera will focus independently on different areas of the image. Maybe like you said, a single point, or what I use is single expansion, may work better for a more consistent focal plane? Your thoughts. Rosco Australia
Great review as always Jared, hey, that's a beautiful stadium
+Lex Arias thanks Lex!!!
Is it just me or does he not use any noise removal? While I agree some noise is fine, often times when you raise the shadows the noise in the dark areas doesn't match the bright areas. With some noise removal you can basically help it a few stops while keeping any noticeable detail.
One of the absolute greatest camera reviews I have ever seen!!
Really good point, I have never looked at it that way. If you are shooting 24 continuos frame, you might as well film!
Jared, one of the best reviews I 've seen.Thank you. I have the D4, I said I would wait for the D5s, but I am not sure anymore.
+Skytalker777 If you get by with the D4 keep it, it was a fantastic camera as well.
Great review! The thing I like about your videos, is that I can count on complete truth. You put all of the facts out there, and let us decide. Awesome!
+coreysaysyo thanks, that's what we go for.
Can we go back to when ISO 800 was considered fast. seems crazy with the ISO we can get these days....People who were never there will not believe it. I was there myself with my Nikon and my roll of Kodachrome 36 exp. It's a good job they didn't have all that ten frames a second shit back then, a rool of film gone in a few seconds. love the videos.
Your reviews are excellent Jared, Really wanted to see what a print looks like, And yes you showed some prints,,, Thank you Jared
+redauwg911 thanks.
Hey Jared. You turned me on to Allen's Camera through your videos. Couldn't be happier! D500 is on the way :)
+Erin Taylor sweet, thanks for using them.
You deserve one million subs right now, I love your channel. Greetings from Costa Rica.
love this video Jared... we want more soccer games vlog !!! and i'm happy you're a U2 fan !
Thanks for the first person shooter idea! I do this at my boys hockey games. Also, thanks for how to shoot hockey video it massively improved my photos.. Do RW video for D500 now!!
+Mike Gilroy we are working on real world of the D500 now.
Well done Jared!...I think the D750 is more usable in realtime for movement, at a fraction of the cost.
Just got my D5 today. Can't wait to test it out. it's a hell of an upgrade from my D5100. It'll take some time to get used to where everything is, compared to my 5100. lol. Great review Jared.
Here I am with a powershot point and shoot...
Here I am with a powershot point and shoot...
very good shoot Jared, i have heard a lot of bad reviews on this camera, but from what i can see in this real World review, the camera looks great. I will not be getting the D5 anytime soon but i am going to get it's little brother, and i think it will do all that i need, very excited about getting my hands on the D500. this review on the D5 has made me see what the camera can really do, thanks for a great review as always.
Serious content!!!!!
The camera capability is so awesome I was almost getting choked up. I nominate a name for your camera: Excalibur.
Now that's what I call a review. Inspiring stuff.
Lots of people are saying the D5 has slower AF and worse dynamic range compared to the D4s. Can you confirm?
I'm in the trade and the D5 does not seem to be selling well compared to previous high end Nikon bodies.
Excellent work Jared. Keep up the good stuff!
I'm particularly impressed about the fact that you were able to push one of the ISO 10000 images and yet the image, when zoomed out, looked fine.
+John Su agree, thanks!!!
Great effort Jared & crew, great review.
+dbauernf thank you
My Goodness just when I am about to go to work I come across this video. It is going to be difficult to concentrate on my work now. I am definitely watching this video ASAP!
Great RW D5 review Jared, these are the best, more please. Thank you and the team filming.
+Michael Faraday thanks Michael!!!! More on the way.
Tight & honest video, you portrait a beast camera. Pixel peeping is the reason I lookup your content. Your hardware feedback is very interesting.
Excellent Jared. It is good to see the camera being tested in way it is actually meant to be used.
I think the group area focus should be better for tracking the players.
Also let us know what camera/s was used to shoot the video?
@11:35 "horizontical"...........FRO should patent that word. lol
+SuperLumberjock Tony Northrup also said that in one of his videos, I don't know why they mix those words hehe
+SuperLumberjock I've been saying it for probably 3 years now if not more.
Great video Jared, you've taken these to the next level.
I still haven't found...what I'm looking for....
Awesome video, awesome camera, awesome review! This is a great one, Jared! Good job! While I will not get this camera ever, it still looks amazing!
If the image is not sharp It all depends where your focus point was, it would be better to show where the focus point is.
Awesome video. I truly wish I could get this camera. I am trying to build a career path in action photography and the D5 would be a fantastic tool. However, I will likely have to go with the D500. On that note, thank you for the D500 review. I currently shoot moto and portrait photography with a D610, but truly need the auto focus speed for action. Your videos have been truly helpful and I am glad I found your channel.
Oh, and yes, I SHOOT RAW!
+Jared Polin, thanks for the real world review of the D5. I'd like to see a #rwr real world review of the D5/D500's auto-ISO feature. The variable light levels at the Philadelphia Union soccer match (darker along the sidelines) is a situation where shooting in manual with auto-ISO could save having to push more than a stop in post...if it works, well.
+Bill Ferris I honestly don't want auto ISO because I don't want it getting out of wack when it should be locked in. But i will try it out.
Greetings Jared. If time permits please perform a real life shooting comparison review of the Nikon D5 vs. the D4s. It is strange the only comparison I am able to find on youtube of the two cameras is an on paper spec comparison. I am interested in purchasing a backup camera for sports (boxing, football, basket ball, etc.), dance theatre, and landscape photography. Please consider performing a real live shooting review of the D5 and D4s. Thank you for all your wonderful videos.
I don't think this camera would work out very well for alien and UFO photos. It would prove their existence and then game over, no more fun
+Brian Ellsworth ha.
A tremendous review. Love your passion. You were in your element, Sports Photography. It really shows. A pat on the back for Todd too.
+missfloflowers thanks!!!
fro i just love you real world reviews always so educational thank you.
+Pedro Guerrero thank you very much.
Nice job of providing lots of information and using the images that stand up to your tests!
Outstanding review. Finally a true real world review for this camera.
Great video - with the focus 'issues' you should look into the new 'af fine tune' feature which corrects for slight anomalies in different lenses and the issue of the af module not being in the sensor because it's a DSLR.
Great video.
BY the way, a photographer who covers Formula 1, hockey Olympics and other sports explained is work routine, it was very interesting.
He first said that most of them don't have time to shoot raw. Too much photos are taken and the time it takes to choose the best ones and transmit them to their media already takes a lot of time into a tight schedule.
So they tweak their Jpeg settings to get them right out of the box.
If one photo deserve to get a raw treatment it is done afterward i guess.
Maybe the shots were grainy because this camera isn't noisy but has bad DR and if you brighten it, or boomify it, noise will creep in there
