I have a slab that was just raised a few months ago. I have been running a dehumidifer in the room to help keep the room moisture down. Should I turn it off while I test the slab using this method? I'm not sure how much it will affect the result.

Hi, I a, about to install laminate tiles on concerete floor. I am wondering even if there is no moisture now (because it is spring now) the moisture level on the floor in winter could be high no? I am wondering i still need vapour barrier on the floor.

Yes you do. I used LVP (Vinyl Plank) that came with pad that is also a vapor barrier. Laminate is by far sensative to moister and when you install laminate on concrete you must install vapor barrier.

Hi Joseph, Thanks for sharing the video. I have a question: unfortunately I did not test the moisture and installed LVP directly onto basement concrete during winter time (it felt dry), but now in summer, there are so much condensation and even some small pool of water on LVP flooring. this is about 650 sq ft basement with furnace room, one kitchen, one bathroom, two small bedrooms and a living room. main problem are from two bedrooms and living room. any suggestion and solution to help this problem? Thanks a lot.

      Hi,
If you installed the LVP over the concrete and the LVP has rubber back underlayment you may be OKAY. You should not install LVP with cork back underlayment over concrete without a moister underlayment !!
Condensation is not a necessary sign of moister coming from the concrete floor. Condensation is expected in basement during the summer and for that you need to use a dehumidifier. Water on the top of LVP is not an issue but if water are penetrating under the LVP
you will need to dry the effected place immediately using dehumidifier before mold and mildew build under the LVP.
If water or moister are coming from the concrete floor you will eventually have to remove the LVP and try to install tiles or moister barrier and then LVP. If I had a big issue of concrete floor moister or water I would install tiles only.
LVP is waterproof only on top surface but not under the LVP.
Also you should not use LVP in bathroom and kitchen where water may penetrate under the LVP especially in basement. You should use porcelain tiles in bathroom and kitchen.
In short, use a big dehumidifier in the living room and bedrooms to remove the water and coming

@@josephk9182 Hi Joseph, thanks so much for quick response. we live in Newmarket, Ontario, This house is a bungalow, on the top of hill, with walk-out basement. The house basement wall seems sound and no leaking. So we did renovation. Does it mean if moisture are coming from basement concrete floor during the summer high humidity weather, we would have this issue solved by installing porcelain tiles? what kind of cement would be better to use?
      Thanks a lot.

currently The LVP with rubber back underlayment installed directly on the top of concrete. and there is lots of water beads on the top of LVP in two bedrooms and living room. Currently there is no central air conditioning in this property. the high humidity and raining recently may be an important factor. Do you think install CAC and using dehumidifier will solve the problem? Thanks a lot.

@@TheMontanasv6 You must make sure water is not penetrating under the LVP. Make sure the baseboard gap on the room (where LVP is installed) is sealed with silicone. Dehumidifier is a must and it will resolve the issue. You need to installed a CAC with dehumidifier. You should seek help with a HVAC company to see if CAC only will resolve the issue or CAC with dehumidifier.

@@josephk9182 Our contractor made this very mistake! He Installed LVP flooring with a cork backing (i.e. Triumph Adventure II by Engineered Flooring) on top of a concrete slab without first installing a vapor barrier (even though the instructions called for it and I even asked him about it) and now all the planks are cupping!

We have a damp issue with our concrete floor in the Kitchen, on our rental agreement it says we have to pay for any carpets/flooring decorating which isn't a problem but we didn't want to spend too much money so was looking at vinyl roll flooring. what would you recommend to stop damp under the floor? The old vinyl we pulled up as lots of black mould underneath.. Thank you

    • @josephk9182

It is a problem. You need to verify from where the water are coming ? I suspect that it may be from the gutters around the property in which the water are not drained far a way from the property. Please have general builder contractor to look at it. If you install laminate you should put a moister barrier.

@@josephk9182 Thanks. It's an old Edwardian house so with no damp proof membrane. It's not all over the floor just a few patches which appear darker.
It only seems a problem in the winter.
DPM liquid seems expensive do you know if i could use DPM sheeting?
I guess i could ask the landlord to pay for the DPM :/

You should use moister barrier. The most durable is porcelain tile.

If you found the area under the nylon wait you should address the problem before installing LVP.
