Prefer the OC-1 doesn't colour the tone as heavily. Clear, crisp and transparent. Listen to the clean signal and compare. See how much fatter and rounder it is with the Cali on. The tone also changed colour. It’s a great sound but If you already have a great tone and don’t want it effected then the Cornish. It’s not harsh it’s true to the clean signal.

I built an OC-1 clone. It's the best pedal compressor I've ever used, it's super quiet and does the trick quite well + an enormous amount of clean gain too. But never played the Cali. Everybody loves them in the demo's, I'm sure it's great. The OC-1 is an optical comp, whereas, I think the Cali 76' is a JFET based comp, that's why it has that distinct coloration, FETS can distort in all the best of ways.

Both good. I prefer and use the Cornish as it doesn't alter the original tone. The Cali is more of an effect- and if you want to alter the tone it definitely has a place and use- does add bottom end. A big space hog on a pedalboard though. I would use both but would go the smaller Cali. Good job sir. Appreciate your work as always.

OC1 is trasparent and doesn't affect the original tone. The Cali is great too but it has too much low mids fattening the input signal loosing a little bit in dynamics. Both great compressors, I prefer the Cornish.

Oh man the Cali is amazing. Since I already own a couple of rack 1176s it’s hard for me to justify the price tag a third time, but dammit that sounds stellar. Wish it was on my board!

Cali is so round and creamy. The OC-1 sounds harsher in comparison. Depends what you want, but i like Cali.

Hello. Which one did you prefer and why? If price wasn't an issue. Hope all is well!

The Cali is the best compressor hands down for bass and guitar... price is kind of a null issue .. you will spend a grand on a Cali and NEVER ever buy another compressor... I use mine on everything including vocals and drums. Save your pennies .. it’s worth every cent...

That's because this larger version is no longer made! You can get the compact versions for much less money and they sound fantastic.
