How to make Harsh Noise Wall
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 авг 2024
- Andri finds strange anomalies in his wall. The noise has found him and is slowly consuming the Pagefire set. So instead of dealing with it like an adult, he teaches you on how to make the most pointless genres he's found in his career (so far) as a pretend musician.

Congratulations, you've finally made a "How to make" where nobody will say "wow you actually made this genre enjoyable"
Lol, yeah.
wrong, as someone that used to listen to harsh noise a lot this is actually okay. Some harsh noise artist will try to put some strong feedback that will jab your ears real hard in between whereas what Andri did here is just consistent static that is numb. So technically he does made it more enjoyable.
@@SkaYouth And there will always be "this guy". GG m8 :D
@@SkaYouth You're quite a noise sommelier, huh.
@@Miraihi off course, imma big brain.
Vomir's actually a pretty normal dude. He's got a trippy guitar improv noise project and a family. Vomir (the project) is just what he does when he's feeling Nihilistic.
Reading interviews, he seems like a very funny, down-to-earth guy who sees the black humour and absurdity in what he does and really enjoys it in a slightly askew way.
That's super interesting
That's the lowest high effort shitpost I've ever seen. Good work
Kmac has some of those although most of them are low effort
I have tinnitus so that means ive listened to harsh noise wall since before it was popular. You kids nowadays dont understand REAL harsh noise wall

We HAVE TO.

Merzbow > Vomir. I said it.
I’ll be real here, as a noise artist (yes, I said artist) and fan, I like my HNW is doses. Sometimes I will just put Merzbow on full blast and clean my whole fucking house. But for the most part, I like my harsh noise to stab at parts. Maybe I’m just more into industrial noise, I guess. Personal preferences and shit, not kink shaming anyone at all here.
For all the people asking how people can enjoy noise, I somewhat have a super flawed theory: to enjoy noise music, you have to enjoy making it. Most people I know that love noise music, are noise artists. From space drone to glitch noise to HNW. I grew up absolutely loving making sounds with anything I could get my hands on. The more abrasive, the better. I just really, really enjoy the freedom of making noise music over anything else. For me, it’s pure, raw emotional expression. And just for the record, I’m a classically trained pianist, a banjo picker, and an occasional guitarist. Also, I make hip hop beats. But noise is where my heart is.
But since I’ve said nothing about the video yet: fucking hilarious and I love it 😂 I was hoping you’d do one soon and by god, ya done did it.
Skinny Puppy were also classically trained musicians who became bored with regular music. I saw them once, but they were always my favorite since they knew how to incorporate noise into their works. I really like your attitude and want to hear some of your work.
Where can we hear your stuff ?
I agree with your theory, as a guitar player myself, I have a few pedals lying around, and I use an MXR Carbon Copy Delay to create the stabs and such. The great thing about noise is the oddly soothing nature of it, it is a lot like ambient music in that you can tune in and out of it and still get a unique experience from it. I am glad there are a lot of noise fans out there.
I'm an noise artist too and you're damn right
You can't compare artists, and very known names. Also is unneccesary to give a reason why you listen noise, every sound you listen is rostly noise though.
Noise grenade?
Be simple, call your "band" : *Flashbang*

Sovereign Mind I look at noise as art. An artist.
Just recently had the opportunity to tour with Vomir, he's actually a pretty funny guy in real life, also, far from being pretentious, most noise people are chronic underachievers.

Funny Story: Long ago I was looking for a tutorial on Noise music, and I found your Noisecore tutorial, and that's how I found out about your channel. Now you actually did a Noise music tutorial.
It's all come full circle.
why would you need a tutorial for noise?
Another another sound artist here. I've mostly worked with "someone trying to start their car without gas" noise, dark ambient and drone. But yeah, this is a pretty accurate representation of the basics of digital experimental music and sound design. 4:13 was probably my favorite part.
Also: props for you creating a "live studio" recording of your piece Untitled. Standing still for so long just for satire takes some fucking effort. The box on head, extreme frown and anime girl shirt really sold it. That's some fucking art right there.
Ah, I remember when I hated noise music. Usually this channel follows a pattern of a series of increasingly heavy genres, so I'm kind of surprised you didn't do regular harsh noise or noise rock/metal or both before diving straight into hnw. I'd love to see you guys cover one of those genres regardless.
You forgot the most important part...release physical media, in a limited edition of five copies, recorded on mangled old C90 cassette tapes you found behind some bins.
Excellent ending track as always. I’m amazed at how you guys can balance the influence of the Japanese of masters like Merzbow and Massona without losing the edge of western artists like hunting lodge and Prurient.
I don’t actually know what I’m saying.
That probably painfull for our ears but that won't ever be as painful as my step dad belt
Well atleast the belt sounds good....
Well at least the belt had a rhythm
sample the sound of the beating, put it through 6 HM-2s that are all dimed. Add a cheap, photocopied-too-many-times photo, a purposefully offensive album name and make a 20-copy run of cassette tape with no digital release. Bam. You're a noise artist.

@@crazydud3380 You can get some really interesting Drone/ Doom, Boris is still my favorite
@@crazydud3380 You ever listened to Khanate? That will… provoke a reaction.
Hahaha I saw Vomir live. Noise actually works kinda well live. He gave bags out to wear as well.
It's easy to pump out shitty noise music but there are projects that really are mind-bending and cool. And noise is even bleeding to the mainstream lately, in hip hop with Dalek or clipping, electronic artists like Sophie and black dresses, noise rock is getting pretty popular too. It's easy to cross out the bare raw experimentation at first glance but it really has a lot to offer if you can get past the snobby exterior
Agustín Videla Great comment, though the only part I’m not so sure of is that noise bleeding into all these genres is something “lately”, at least if what you mean to say is that it’s a new development.. I mean, yes, you are correct, but I’d only point out that it’s something that’s been going on for a while. Maybe it’s more popular now? I’m not sure, bc I can think of a lot of artists who were doing it a couple decades ago, and they weren’t nobodies, some even were on major labels and making quite violent cacophonies.. I’ll at least give you one thing regarding “lately”, and that’s it does seem like use of noise, especially harsher noise, has increased significantly over the last decade, particularly in hip hop and “pop music” (where it’s existed in various ways for a while, but not to the extent and degree it does now, definitely).
Still, all this said, noise/white noise being used in genres that aren’t just noise obviously isn’t harsh noise, wall noise, etc.. and I think one could have a harder time arguing what’s the chicken or the egg, aka, was white noise used in other formats/genres first, or used as it’s own “dark ambient aesthetic” of noise first (probably not how any early artist utilizing it would like to be characterized), or just as a means of exploring texture with sound, etc, as many early electronic pioneers were interested in, and it just evolved from there? Since I was a teenager (so for almost exactly 20 years of my life) I became very interested in actually tracing all the lines and lineages in modern, western music, to the extent that one can, and your comment has really put my mind back in this space, but now of wondering how harsh noise evolved from white noise, how and when it interacted with disparate genres, whether or not it can even be directly connected to “drone music” as a “progression”, or if that’s just silly (drone is, after all, multiple millennia old, and played by our ancestors, and still played in various tribes/ethnic folk traditions)....
I’m sorry I’m rambling, and now completely disconnected from your original point, but it was your comment that got me thinking back through all the popular and underground iteration of “noise music” that I’m aware of, and it’s made me wonder where this *really* started.. which I know is separate from your point, which again, I mostly agree. Lol..
I’ll digress ffs.. cheers ✌️♾
Well, the video is a satire to harsh noise. But yeah, on fact noise has been a part of music for a pretty long time, velvet underground experimented with it, the Jesus and Mary chain were noise pop on their first album, sonic youth always played noise pop/rock, show me the body uses a lot of noise. The thing is, we've got to understand harsh noise as sound art and experimentation, not an actual genere

Since you are doing smaller genres, do tonefield next.
"What is tonefield?"
Tonefield as a sub-genre started with people trying to guess what colorfield painting genre (check album covers for example of this painting genre) would be if it was a music genre .
Those same guys decided to list the colorfield painting characteristics and use, logic, painting skills, and music theory skills to convert those characteristics to music ones.
In the end the sub-genre works is basically like this:
1-Song is mono (unless its impossible like cd, then it has the exact same thing at all channels)
2- The song start with a silent part with 2 second (or more) or with a tone a tone with 2 second or more (tone must have same waveform, frequency and amplitude during its entire length)
3-Song ends or continue with with a new silent part with 2 second (or more) or with new a tone a tone with 2 second or more (tone must have same waveform, frequency and amplitude during its entire length)
4-Go back to 3.
One label that has this stuff wavelength2.bandcamp.com/
There is also a positive thing about doing a episode with tonefield, almsot literallly every single tonefield song sucks ALOT, but the genre has potential to have good songs or at least a normal song. If you make a decent or normal song, it will be the first good/decent tonefield song ever.

As a maker of Hash Noise, I can confirm that this is 100% accurate.
Now that we have the precedent: you should do Japanoise (msbr, melt-bannana), Danger Music (Justice Yeldham), Avant-Metal (Mr. Bungle, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum), and Art Rock (The Books of Knots, Melvins, Fantomas). It would be a blast seeing you make that kind of music :)
