Finally, I've been looking for a RUclips channel for years that can help me get into making harsh noise/industrial and power electronics. It's always been a style of art that I've wanted to explore and now I have the resources to get started. Thanks for your help and subscribed!
Don’t be discouraged. It’s not as hard as you think it out to be, the pros have done more with less! Just remember the hardest part is liking noise lol.
@@_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxI honestly have put off getting into it for some time because of life and other creative projects I’ve been focusing on. However, I was mucking around on Serum early tonight whilst trying to make a white noise sweep for a Jungle track I was working on. I was experimenting with different distortion types to throw on the white noise and came across some really intense distortion which sounded positively disgusting (in the best way possible). I started tweaking with the filter cutoff and resonance knobs, threw on some delay and actually started getting some sounds that were very close to the ballpark of what Ashley achieves in these videos. Maybe I’ll make a video sometime of how to make harsh noise using purely VSTs and software stuff.
I did the same thing with the same mixer. Totally on my own and with a contact mic. I stopped because I thought I would ruin it. As long as I've been in noise (1993) no one ever helped me except RRR Ron Lassard told me how to make a contact mic.Everthing from circuit bending to distortion pedals all on my own. That's why it's good to see that your doing a good thing.
Look forward to future installations in this series! I've recently began experimenting with noise and your videos are great sources of information, not to mention entertainment
I've been using a DOD stereo chorus that I self oscillate by plugging a cable from the input into the output but this is way way better. I shall be picking one up ASAP
Michael Rucci thank you so much! I’m a big fan of your work. I actually just sold my minimal drone to upgrade to the maximal drone. I’m gonna do an unboxing / demo when I get it.
this is awesome! i do have a question tho, would the mixer get fried after a while due to the.... insane amount of voltage running through it? lol anyways i freaking love your stuff, you rock!
Sick video! how do you record no input noises though? do you plug your mixer into a computer and record them in a DAW? or do you just mic up the amp or the speakers that output your sound?
Behringer make an accurate clone if the Boss Heavy metal and the Ultrametal among many others. They do a copy of the Shenai super fuzz. It's spot on but with extra eq and three fuzz levels and about $3875 cheaper!. Lots of folk say they're plastic and no good for stomping on. For noise makers you will break your hand before the pedal. Ideal. Look up What's The Deal With Behringer for a great run down of the best clones.
Not likely. I blew a digital delay once using a freakish high aux send once years ago. The pedal was faulty to start with, the type of signal was one you shouldn't really use. Apart from that I've built up a collection of 30+ fx units and pedals, abused them for years doing this. Never had an issue. Not all pedals will be usable in all set ups. If you buy one that doesn't 'Noise' hang on to for a future setup, which you will/should be doing. Experimentation will allow you to find your/new sounds. Most of all have fun.
bit late, but does anyone know if you can get a microphone to work with this setup? the most i could do was get it to play audio out of my microphone, but couldn't recieve input
Cool tutorial. I don't have a mixer (I use pedals with two outputs for a much clunkier feedback setup) but it's high on the list of gear I want (I'd love to play guitar into a feedback loop with one). Why the bright green background, though? It's kinda eye-searing. Hyped to see more noise corner!
@@yelhsasierehw I see. Did you get a new one or something? I feel like it used to be white. So excited to see my guest set on here, I'm boiling with anticipation.
I want to use a kaoss pad 3 and a microphone with a mixer and distortion and delay would that combo work? Also importing raw sound files in audacity and using a bass guitar.
I really want to try this with my current Behring mixer (mines is the Q2102 USB) which is a similar model. But I'm slightly afraid of perhaps breaking it or perhaps wearing down the parts, especially since my current mixer I use for recording other instruments. What should I actively avoid doing to damage it? Or is this a process of it gradually deteriorating over time??? Thanks. Loved this video.
I think over time it might be worn down but definitely avoid feedback loops and keep an eye on the volume. Alternatively you could look for a used beat up mixer. I bought mine used.
The feedback loops will always drive the channels at the maximum level they can run at. So there will always be the wearing down of parts and possibly frying them. Not much you can do. Best way would be to find a cheap second hand mixer solely for noise.
The point of feedback loops is as the name suggest to run the audio in a loop to amplify and distort itself. This can be done without a mixer but a mixer is the easiest and beginner friendly way. Another option would be to place a mic in front of a speaker and then creating a feedback loop this way. This type of feedback loop creates the high pitched feedback you sometimes get from vocal mics on concerts. Its not limited for high pitched feedback though and can be manipulated nicely in many ways.
Hey man, quick question: are there alternatives to the Behringer cable for running the mixer to a computer? it’s sold out everywhere for the foreseeable future. Can I just used a 1 prong 1/4 to USB or does it need to be the double. Any help is appreciated thanks!
Yes the standard way would be to use an audio interface. They are basically external usb sound cards for musicians. You hook your noise setup to the audio interface via 1/4 or xlr cables and then via usb into your computer. you can go for a cheap two channel one and it will cost below 50 bucks.

Holy shit, blown away that someone remembers/ would use that one track from No Mercy as background music ❤️

what patch cables do you use?
I really liked it! Glad your back! :^)
Zowozon Noise thank you!

Can you plug a sythn to the mixer and use it in conjunction with pedals?
does any mixer in the xenyx series work or is the 10002 best?

the faint WWF No Mercy music in the background
I’m glad someone noticed lol it’s the official background song
THANKS A LOT FOR THIS VIDEO!!! Really helpful!! Also what mixers would you recommend?
Cheers!! Any mixer with an fx send should be good for noise.
my friend said she destroyed an input on one of those xenyx mixers doing this, so if u care maybe don't use the same mixer u use to record other stuff
nutritional yeast yeah you run that risk. I only use it for noise so I’m not too concerned.

That background music from WWF no mercy n64 !! Lol
I have a bass effects petal and i bet that will work good with it huh?
Any relatively cheap pedal reccomendations for this set up. Also will it damage the pedals
The Behringer vintage delay (the gray one) has worked well for me since it's analog and you can get it to feedback on it's own pretty easily.
Behringer make an accurate clone if the Boss Heavy metal and the Ultrametal among many others. They do a copy of the Shenai super fuzz. Hi, could you recommend a mixer that is not expensive, please?
good sounds
what are the wires that are plug into the mixer and ran throughout the pedals called? i probably sound so dumb for asking this
Patch cables
aux send works like the fx send?
can I use the Behringer xenyx 502 insted
what are the orange cables?
can i plug my mixer into my guitar amp?
YES i just did this, it was incredible cuz my amp has some effects so it adds to the whole think
What do you think about clipping the mixer ? it is really that dangerous or na or we just dont give a f ?
Hey ! Is the fx send mandatory ? Or il it possible to the samedi with the Berhinger Xenyx 302 ? Thx in advance, and thx for your vids !

Does the signal ever overload the pedal?
It’s never been an issue for me.
I think I figured it out. I have to run unbalanced/mono cables through the pedals.
Thanksgod 🔥
is there a way to do this without a mixer? I don't have one unfornately.
Yeah you could hook pedals straight into an amp, or look into audio interfaces.

Do you need a computer for this to work or is that just for recording?
Just for recording, you just need speakers of some sort. I run the mixer to my laptop then run that through my stereo system.
Can I skip the computer? Just use an amp with the mixer and pedals, etc?
cool
