this will help you a lot: when you are using a battery powered microphone, set your audio input to line level (in Simple terms, the audio has already been boosted by the battery in the microphone, and it doesn’t need to be boosted again by your preamp in the camera). When you are using a microphone that is not battery powered, set your audio input to mic. The reason you are having to set your input level to -30 Is because your audio input jack is not on the correct setting. Having your input level to low is what creates noise from the preamp. Actually, the noise is at the same level, but you need to boost your input level to be louder than that noise. If the input level is too loud then you get distortion. I come from an audio background and I’m new to video. Lots of helpful stuff in your video, glad I can return the favor.
Also while hitting the in-camera limiter may be better then clipping your A.D. converter, It will still introduce distortion if you hit it more than a tiny bit. In my opinion, using the limiter can give you a false sense of security. Limiter plug-ins or even stock limiters in your editing software will give you a lot more gain reduction without distortion, but you would only use those when mastering your video. The easiest mastering limiter, and also one of the best is Ozone Maximizer by Izotope.
Before I saw this video, I set up my camera exactly the same way as you)) It was very funny to watch the video and see how our thoughts flow in the same way and what functions we need first of all) Thank you!
Hi, when on movie mode, my fujifilm lenses' aperture ring doesn't change the aperture value when I rotate it, I can only change it with the back wheel on the camera, do you know how to change that? Thank you very much. 🙏🏻 I'm using the 16mm f1.4 btw.
Where do you camera shop in Thailand? I'm moving back in June, been gone for 10 years so no idea what shops are still where. Going to need lights/stands/studio supplies.
Thanks again, your videos really help a lot as a stills photographer getting started in video. Did you choose the Tamron over the Fuji 16-55 because it's slightly lighter and has stabilization? Are you interested in the Sigma 18-50 coming out later this year?
Very informative as always. I'm still using the XT-4. How much of a difference in quality does recording in 4K H.265 10 Bit 4:2:0 200Mbit/s versus 100 Mbit/s make in your experience? I want to save storage while traveling without losing to much quality of my footage.
10bit 4:2:0 on the xt4 always gave me good results. Even 10bit 422 on the H2S works great for most shots in hevc 100mbits. I record in ProRes and after a video is finished I convert all files to hevc 100/200 (24/60p) to save long-term storage.
Hi! Since you have been trying two of cameras, X-H2S and S5IIX which would you prefer if the points were Color from the Camera(cinematic picture with less post production), slow motion, auto focus, Ibis, memory and so on? I know that it's impossible to have all that in 1 camera but which one of this cameras were or IS more pleaser to use for you with all this con's and pro's? I'm a beginner so I would be grateful for your help. BTW nice video color. Like it a lot.
Hallo sehr schönes video, meine Frage ist was für ein objektiv hast du bei diesen Video ? Und was für Objektive würdes du empfehlen für sehr schöne und scharfe videos? Danke dir im Voraus 🙏🏽
In this video, I used the Viltrox 13mm F1.4 and I can't recommend it enough. My other lenses are the Tamron 17-70 and Fuji 55-200. I also used the 16-55 2.8 and can recommend them all.
When exposing for skin tones in F-Log 2, do you just use 85% zebras? I used to use 75% zebras to expose for skintones on my XT4 just with Eterna and I was happy with my results.
Thank you for your videos, always great to learn more about video from you. In your experience how does the 4k 240fps look on this camera? I have heard from others that the quality when shooting this really drops. Thank you for your insight
Thanks Eric, I never shoot 240P on any camera because it never looks good enough for me and most of the time, 120P can easily be slowed down to 10% by using optical flow. As the motion in 120P is so slow already, getting artifacts from optical flow is unlikely in most cases.
@@pascalbasel Thank you for your response, I realized after writing that the camera does 4k at 120p not 240, I was still curious about the 240 for wildlife moments but you are right the quality never really looks good enough. If 120P is looking good that is the important thing. Looking forward to seeing more of the work you produce using your camera, I still have my XT2 and am looking to upgrade with either these cameras or possibly the next generation
Hey Pascal, great video, helps me a lot for my personal video settings! I want to use Flog2 and the Tamron 17-70 mm. Which filter can you recommend for the ISO 1250? I have found the Haida Pro II CPL-VND Filter with a range from 0.9 (8x) to 2.1 (128x). Is it enough for filming outside?
If you send me an FX30, sure. I don't get cameras for free... But the reviews are all there. X-H2S has slightly weaker af, still reliable tough and everything else is better on the X-H2S. The LUT functionality of the FX30 seems quite nice tough, especially for studio setups. Lens options are better on Sony but everything you really need is there on the Fuji system.
Hey Pascal, great content. This video is helping me decide between the XH2S and FX30. With the low native iso of FLog2 at 1250, do you find you have to use ND's a lot, even indoors as it's too bright, or is it generally able to be controlled with your lighting?
Although I don’t have the XH2S I can use some tipps for my X-S10! Would love to use the custom dial for video, but with X-S10 it’s only possible for stills… switching frame rate and shutter speed is so annoying, even with the quick menu :( I have to check if X-S10 allows the crop on a button, would be useful with the Viltrox 13mm. But I always forget to turn it off afterwards 😅 Planning a review on the Tamron 17-70? Would be interesting to see how it performs in terms of video, especially the stabilization. The 18-55 is hard to beat there! Aaand last question 😅 do you use any button to lock WB? Or just Auto WB during run & gun?
A review of this lens is not planned yet, but I might do one sooner or later. The stabilization is surprisingly good. However, the small size of the 18-55 is hard to beat. If the X-T5 comes out, I might get the 18-55 again just for the size. I don't use auto white balance very often. I usually use a grey card to white balance manually (even when I shoot on the go), or I use sunny/cloudy preset or set the kelvin value manually.
how do I get my shutter speed into whole increments..somehow my camera is switching in smaller increments and it takes forever on a shoot to go from 48 to 120 shutter speed
Turn off “Flickerless S.S. Setting” in movie setting. Turn it on when shooting under certain lighting condition and adjust your SS to get rid of flickering
@@pascalbasel I will for sure try this! I deeply appreciate the information. I'm pulling out the little hair I have trying to get rid of this noise. Exactly how would you add contrast? there are a few places to do so I believe
Pascal thanks for the content man! I shoot 50%Video & 50%STILLS (for fashion) I'd love to switch from VIDEO to STILLS mode within a click...so... QUESTION : WHEN YOU USE CUSTOM BUTTONS TO SWITCH FROM VIDEO TO STILLS DOES THIS AUTOMATICALLY CHANGE ALL PARAMETERS FOR YOU (ss/f/iso) ? ...as this is the drawback on my older xt3 : I can't switch from video to stills without having to reset Iris myself every time. PEACE EVERYONE!
@@pascalbasel I personally love the older manual dials on the xt series,,,Still... the possibility of switching from stills to video within a click with all settings backed into the CUSTOM, well... that could mean being able to share a one camera between photographer and videographer on a set and just use 1 camera...just great
Honestly now the fx3 came out I think for videography, everyone should go for it instead of XH2S .. at least they can have an option to switch into the full frame in future ..
The FX30 looks like insane value for the price, but the X-H2S still offers better dynamic range, rolling shutter performance, internal ProRes, Fuji colors and better photo/hybrid functionality. Those are not important features for everyone, but important for many. However, it's great to have options and I think that Fuji should drop their prices a bit soon with such hard competition.
@@pascalbasel agreed.. but the dynamic range is same in both these cameras. And I am a XT4 user . But no option to move to full frame . Even the lens selection is pretty dope in Sony as compared every other system. Fuji’s lens prices are not even cheap. I still think $2500 for an apsc body is too much unless it’s a C70.. 😃😃
@@pascalbasel only two points are sufficient to choose FX30 over Fuji.. AF and option to move to full frame in future. Many says, sensor size does not matter. But even deep down the heart you know, the image quality and DOF is superior in FF.
@@MayurMahapatraFilms Just keep in mind you need to upgrade everything for FF, especially your lights. For scenes where you have a deep DoF you need f/11 or even f/16 maybe on FF depending on focal length. On S35 or APS-C you can stick to f/5.6 or 8 and use less powerful lights. Too shallow DoF is also really hard to watch. E.g. Personally I find some of Peter Lindgren's IG content hard to watch cos it looks like it was shot at 50mm f1.2. But I agree with you that Fuji lenses are really too expensive. They're good, but idk... you can get good enough cheap alternatives on Sony E mount even if they are less sharp. Sharpness isn't necessary for video anyway.
