Mine started as Sisterlocks, but I started self maintaining possibly 3 years ago. I once met a lady who also self maintains and she suggested doing just a couple rows a day, investing about the same amount of time per day as we did when we were maintaining/styling relaxed and/or loose natural hair. Yes, retis are time consuming, but I am so happy with my growth and the carefree nature of styling. I always look groomed and a can literally wake up and go if I need to. Thanks for this video!
I love Sisterlocks. I and 6 years out and have great loctician who is super fast! I paid $500 to start and she never takes longer than 1 hr and 45 to retightened my hair. She also is a stickler about time, if your appointment is at 2 pm you are in the chair at 2pm! I go every 6 weeks. Love her to pieces!! I pay a flat rate for 2 hours and she has only raised her prices 1 time in 6 years. Super blessed best decision I ever made. I love watching your videos especially since we are about the same time frame.
I did my own mini locs that at first glance look like sisterlocks. I want to make sure I am able to do my hair myself without relying on a hairdresser so that is one of the reasons why I chose to do it on my own. The results are similar and its not like anyone is going to be inspecting my scalp to see if they are sisterlocks. Biggest thing for me was saving money. I have no idea how some of you can pay $300 per month for them to install sisterlocks and maintain.. that money can be used for more important things in my opinion aside from hair but to each their own
Somebody charging 300 a month for maintaining sisterlocks??? Won’t get my business at all ! It’s 100 per retie and that can be every 2 months which isn’t bad as mush as people spend on shampoo conditioner leave in conditioners edge control and other hair dressers it’s worth it I love my sisterlocks
My concern is investing patience / time for length and then realize my hair isn't doing right and stuck not wanting to cut them. People are not honest about the locks they have loss after a long period of time. I wish there we ppl out there that have had micro/mini locks for many years like the Sisterlock clients so I could inquire more about the health strength and longevity of each lock.
you can do a grid / pattern too with microlocs :) you can start microlocs also with the interwoven technique from the tip to the root. Not only with braids or twists. Love your locs !
Lady Charla sings Yes I just saw a lady on RUclips start her locs like that. I was so excited to see that. Makes me want to start over. I'm only 2 months in.
So i've had sisterlocs for ten years now. it's past my butt. i really need to get over the length and get a cut. but i digress. my comment is simply this thank you for being honest and supportive. natural hair in any form to me is amazing.
I like the fact that you were honest in your video. I have chosen micro locs for many reasons. Mostly because of the minimum to none access to a sisterlocks trainee .... and the price...
I like all sizes of locks but I wanted small ones for myself. Micro locks were better for me because Sisterlocks were not in my budget at the time so I started my own locks and I also maintain them myself. I found out on youtube someone has also trademarked the word "microlocs"? But I guess it's still okay to use the words micro and locks to describe small locks. There are many people with small locks that weren't created by any trademarked process/system. No two heads of locks are the same because each head of hair is unique. Small locks that aren't sisterlocks can also have a very uniform grid - but that depends on how good the loctician is at sectioning the hair to a desired size and making even parts. It won't be identical to a grid out of the Sisterlocks manual if the installer isn't working from the manual but the grid will be there. Also some people don't want the square grid and may ask for another shape. So at the end of the day all locks are good locks and it's about preference and price.
I have micro locs but my locktician is a sisterlock consultant. She started my locs by interlocking them with her tool. So my hair wasn't braided or twisted.
I think I eventually want microlocks. They sound easier and more cost effective to maintain, and it sounds like it’s easier to find loctitians to keep them up. I’m in a small town and I don’t know if anybody here specifically does sisters but I can probably find folks who do regular micros.
Studying and watching for years as well as interviwed so many self starters on either and the self installed look was splendid. Most women who went to a sistaloc tech. Hmmm I will say I was impressed with the fullest version which was on the heads of the self starters
I love your unbiased views. I love both sister and microlocks. As you stated maintaining them takes hours. So I have opted for small traditional locs. I have 98 locs and I can maintain them myself. Great informational video, tfs.
I really do appreciate this video I honestly didn't know about micro locks until recently when I was speaking with my stylist. I have had my sister locks for over 13 years now but haven't used the actual sister lock tool for over 8 years and have noticed a difference in my locks that I prefer much more. But I do agree that all locks are beautiful regardless of which route you go, the key is maintenance.
Totally unrelated to the video but - you're beautiful. Your smile is beautiful. Your skin - OMG I'm sure you hear that all the time though. That melanin is just slaying and serving black queen gorgeousness.
I love my sisterlocks, and I would have been happy with microlocks as well, but I couldn't say one is better with regard to appearance. I just feel that when it comes to Sisterlocks, a lot goes into the pattern, grid, and texture recognition in the installation and maintenance of the locks. My loctition understands where my hair unravels, and what works for me. My hair is usually so bouncy and neat, and when I wear updos on a freshly retightened head, the grid is evident!!!.
I have finally settled on getting my Sisterlocks and I have a consultation this month. Very expensive but I have been doing my research and in my opinion the Sisterlocks have the aesthetics that I am looking for. I still have quite a bit more money to save and I have found an awesome consultant in my area. I can't thank the Harista's on RUclips who have shared their knowledge of interlocking in all of it's brands and forms. I'm even looking into becoming a Sisterlock consultant. First things first. I'll let you know how they turn out! Thanks so much!
I am so happy that I found your channel aannnndddd that you are close to my area! I am currently doing my research now on sister loc technicians in my area and of course I have seen the few "I can do it but I am not a technician" people so hopefully our paths will cross one day soon!
My concern is investing patience / time for length and then realize my hair isn't doing right and stuck not wanting to cut them. People are not honest about the locks they have loss after a long period of time. I wish there were ppl out there that have had micro/mini locks for many years like the Sisterlock clients so I could inquire more about the health, strength and longevity of each lock.
Hello! Thanks for doing this video and comparing these two! I've always admired your Sister locks! So I have a question about something you said regarding Sister locks locking to the person's "texture or hair type." Quick back ground: (lol) I had braid locks for 17 mos and I really enjoyed them, but I felt the natural fullness of my hair was suppressed, and it made me miss my big hair..they;ve been picked out for a little over a year now.) So my question, lol. Do Sister Lockticians lock to ensure that the persons natural hair appearance is similar in volume to emulate their loose hair in overall appearance, or are they locking to the specific curl pattern to avoid slipping? I hope this makes sense. I had about 277 micro braid locks and I know sister lockers have about 500 or more. So I've wondered if that was the difference with fullness or is it a matter of locking to the person's texture or natural fullness and density?
Hi Chan! Awesome question. Sisterlocks have a different pattern for each hair type. The different pattern will help the texture of your hair. However, if you naturally have thin hair, your locs will thicken up a bit. You will definitely have more locs if you choose sisterlocks though
My Sisterlocks are 13 years old and I love them! They got long and I cut them once and they're long again. Micro locks, braid locks, Sisterlocks, whatever locks, they're all beautiful and belong on everybody! I want to see the whole world in locks! LOL! Best thing I ever decided to do with my hair and so glad I did. Back in 2005 I paid $500 to have mine put in and nowadays it's quite a bit more expensive I understand.
I use the sisterlock tool in my old set of sisterlocks or my moms microlocks. I have seen quite a few stylist with a sisterlock tool not sure how they got it. I do know i made a huge effort to order as often as i could. Because i knew i didnt plan on getting certified. My old sisterlock consultant also gave me her tool before she moved away said she would order another.
I enjoyed your video and your hair looks wonderful. I was/am ready to move towards either Sisterlocks or Microlocks (whichever my wallet can support) again. I tried just regular locks last year, installed with the comb coil method, but my hair is very straight and they kind of slipped loose before I went in for my first retwisting. I think with a braided base instead I may have better luck.
I decided on Sisterlocks. I'm only about 4 weeks in but mine still seem very small and thin. Hope my strands start to swell soon but whatever. I'm committed to the process so I will just let them be.
So far so good. I haven't had any slippage and my first retightening is on Friday. I'm starting to fall in love with my hair. It's was really questionable in the beginning. I wasn't sure if I made the right decision. I'm completely in love now. Watching your videos is what has helped me along the way. You explain the process very well. Even the little mishaps along the way. Thank you.
Sisterlock tool on ebay...where do get this stuff...comedy. There are small nuances yes...I agree do the best for you. All locs are beautiful. :-) I like sisterlocks for me (well to be honest those were the only professionally systematically packaged locking system at the time so I went with that) more systems have come out since then and they are all beautiful. Great vid Brittania :-)
I love this video. First...you are so pretty and your hair is gorgeous. I am new to the loc journey...i think I have micro locs (not sure). They are small and short currently. I was wondering if I should get sisterlocs. But, having watched your video, I think I am going to enjoy the journey of the locks that I have. I love your comment "all locs are beautiful". Thank you. I will watch for more videos from you to help me on my 'loc' journey. Blessings to you. :)
I always appreciate your insights and your experience with Sisterlocks. I know that recently you became a Sisterlock Consultant and since I am planning on taking my training in August I was wondering what your experience has been like as a Sisterlock Trainee. How are you going about getting clients? How did you go about getting your your clients in order to be approved as a consultant. I guess I'm getting a bit nervous about going into debt to pay for my SL Training and I want to have some insight on what to expect. I do realize it will take time to grow the business as a SL practictioner but any insights would be much appreciated. Thank you & Bless
Well I just crawled out from under a rock..lol. I know nothing about locs. I do like the way that they look, and what seems to be the freedom that goes along. My question is.. Are the locs your own natural hair, and can you take the out and still keep the length. Thanks.

Thank you... I think I would try microlocks... 😊 Thanks for informations! PS: For the comment session you said: "If you don't like locks", you can tell. Right, but I'm like: "why are those people here in the first place?!🤔😄"
The London Locks Tool looks just like the sister locks tool so maybe some people have that...I have seen them both the only difference is the London Locks Tool is made of metal
I think if I had the guts to do it. I would do micro Locs. I see so many women with sister locs and they all have tanning at hairline as well as going bald in the back top of head. And they all get retights every 4-6 weeks.
I was wondering y sister locs cost more when it seems like micro locs would take longer since they are smaller. I was equating time w /money. Or am i wrong
Relaxation Station111 I paid 450 for my sisterlocs. Why? I had 6 inch of new growth. The shorter your hair is the less you pay. The more hair you have you pay more.
Love your channel! I am relaxed with long, thick, mid back length hair. I also have mild/moderate scalp psoriasis. I sometimes get a few plaques here and there and around my hair line. I LOVE your sister locks! I want some, but I need to be able to wash my hair(scalp) at least once a week. Coconut oil also helps my scalp/ psoriasis issues. Would Sister Locks be for me? Also, I have seen a lot of videos n pics if women with little to no edges wearing SL's. Can that be prevented???😲
you can wash your hair once a week. I'm not sure if in the beginning maybe by you taking a spray bottle with water and shampoo and just focus on your scalp in the beginning until your hair is fully locked can help. I'm not sure if you have a dermatologist, but follow up with them and see what they say too
You can definitely comb them out. As for how damaging it is, that I'm not sure of because some people experience different amounts of breakage, if any at all
I don't have much hair but I find you attractive. Worth sitting through one of your videos for. Pity I'm in the UK. You also have very expressive eyes and you know how to them!! Did you say you are from Trinidad?
Tonya Lee my purpose was to tell you all the differences between them. I understand where you’re coming from, but I can’t tell you which one is better. Besides, I’d be bias if I say sisterlocks because that’s what I have and potentially could be hypocritical if I say microlocks because all I do is videos about sisterlocks. I just want everyone to make an informed decision
Thank you so much for this video! I'm going to whip this out the next time someone asks "Oh! Do you have sisterlocks?" Small locks are automatically sisterlocks in people's minds. I Shall Make it My Duty to Share this Knowledge and STAMP OUT IGNORANCE! [Where's my superwoman cape?] LOL!
Mine started as Sisterlocks, but I started self maintaining possibly 3 years ago. Thank you! Cost is a very important thing for people. So I understand.

Mivrolocks for me, started with braids. 3 months in , DIY and loving it!
Me too one year into my braidlocs journey enjoying every minute of not having to detangle my loose natural hair
I chose sisterlocs after doing much research, they fit what I was looking for in the loc world

What do you have in your hair? It looks amazing!
So is the actual loc different? I've seen regular dreads with a crochet method, is that the methos used for sisterlocs? Can it work for straight hair?
Thank God I chose regular locs. I began them by myself and they are now sitting on top of my butt. Girl I commend you!!
I didn’t know you were a trainee! Are you certified? Doing installs/reties?
I always appreciate your insights and your experience with Sisterlocks. By the way, your Sisterlocks are gorgeous and so are you! Bless.

I have sisterlocks
Thanks for this. It will help in distinguishing between the two and making a decision on way forward
I have small loc that were interlocked. They are not micro locs. They do have the textured look of sister locs.
Thank you... I think I would try microlocks... 😊 Thanks for informations!
PS: For the comment session you said: "If you don't like locks", you can tell.
Right, but I'm like: "why are those people here in the first place?!🤔😄"

Thank you for being concise and informative. You answered many of questions in your video.
Can you use the grid for the sistalocks to start microlocks
yes u can and same tool. sister loc is just a brand name. dnt pay that price lov.

I'm not sure if you have a dermatologist, but follow up with them and see what they say too
keep me posted
Can you use braid to do your sisterlocks?
Hey Brittania, can you take off sisterlocks?
if you can how damaging is it to your hair?
You can definitely comb them out. As for how damaging it is, that I'm not sure of because some people experience different amounts of breakage, if any at all
Can you give me information on becoming certified
I prefer micro Locs! Which is what I want!
Hi, how many locks do you have?
I don't have much hair but I find you attractive. Worth sitting through one of your videos for. Pity I'm in the UK.
You also have very expressive eyes and you know how to them!! Did you say you are from Trinidad?
Thank you
Wow, your mouth is like Alfred Woodward's. Beautiful sis.❤❤❤
That sistaloc tool is carried at each of our hair stores here, seriously, I have one.
Thank you for the informative video. I learned a great deal. Your hair is so beautiful!
HI. WHERE R U FROM? SENEGAL OR LIBERIA? WHAT KIND OF LOCKS DO U HAVE?
Great video. Do you recommend coloring the hair before or after getting sisterlocks? I'm thinking of making that move soon.
I do think coloring your hair beforehand is better, but you have to be careful how the color will affect your hair. Try not to use bleach if you can
Your hair looks AMAZING ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ Love it!!!!
I love you hair and unbiased review
I still don't know which is better or how to research which I thought was what this was about according to the title
THEY ARE THE SAME GRID
Your hair are pretty.. Which one do you have
C.Jeanette graydon she has sister locs
My name is Prittania how cool!❤
Not trying to get sisterlocks, the community is not welcoming, it’s like a secret sisterhood

Great information provided to assist in making decisions. I chose Sisterlocks and I am a #newsubscriber.
Love your hair
Ty for the info I appreciate it
Thank you so much for this video!
Great video!! Definitely subscribing!
Thank you!!
I’m going for microlocs
Do you have micro locks or sisterlocks?

@@Brittania718 Your hair looks beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
The sponsored ads in your video are hair suppliers selling weaves and extensions, calling them sisterlocks and microlocs 🤣🤣🤣
