    What a firehose of valuable information. The supporting information is fabulous too… way beyond just links. To make this a perfect nugget of instruction, I suggest adding chapters. Bravo!😊 Well done.

    Another trove of much needed and useful info easily communicated by you,Gary. Thank you!
    What I still can’t find (assuming it can be done) is if I make changes in sheet A, the change is automatically done in Sheet B so that I don’t have to switch back and forth.
    Happy Easter!

      Depends what you are doing specifically. You certainly can reference cells from one sheet to another. I do it all the time in my Numbers documents.

      @@macmost I keep a list of the condo owners in our building which includes name, condo unit, phone number etc. So say this sheet 1 has columns A (name), B (condo number) C (phone, D (other info). In a second sheet 2 I only need columns A, B, and C. During moving season many changes occur as new owners come in, thus need to change name and number. I wind up copy/pasting in Sheet 2.

      @@CescoCDN Why do you need a second sheet at all? I don't understand. Is there some reason you only want to see A, B and C but not D? Why can't you look at column D in that situation?

      @@macmost Ah, sorry. So Sheet 2 containing only A,B,C gets sent to a locksmith thrice a year as the keys used in our condos can only be duplicated by them (CX5 system) and only if the person asking is on this list. Locksmith doesn't need to know what's in columns D and so on from Sheet 1.

    This is all handy, but what I wanted is for a cell to let me jump to a different table at the row corresponding to some value in my first table. Jumping to a table is not good enough, as my tables are thousands of lines long.

  • @vidform
    @vidform 5 месяцев назад

    Thanks. It would be nice if we could create links that take you to other tables. Also convert an entire cell into a link (instead of only the text inside the cell) since I sometimes insert images into cells and would like to click on that image as a link.

    Thank you clever Gary. I commented before at a different video. Would it not be great if Apple would enable a function where one can link the value from one spreadsheet cell to a value in a cell of another spreadsheet, as is possible in Excel.

    Love these videos, I always learn something as I'm not a power spreadsheet user. I have a spreadsheet that has some cells that are checkboxes that include a formula, is there a way for Shortcuts to be able to "check the box" when adding a row to the bottom of that table? I haven't been able to figure out if that's possible.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  7 месяцев назад

      Not sure. A checked box is just "true" vs a not-checked box "false." Try playing around with that.

    Any way of selecting a column and removing email links in bulk? rather than selecting a cell, then the text to remove? Cheers

    • @macmost
      @macmost  4 месяца назад

      Depends on what you want to remove and what the text looks like. You can create a new column and then use a formula to process the text of the first column to get what you want in the second column. Once you have it all like you want in the second column, you can copy and paste the results back into the first column.

    Interesting. Can you link to PDF documents so they open in Preview? I have a hundred plus years worth of burial data in numbers with records relating to specific graves. Each grave record has the serial number of specific legal documents. Currently I have to go to finder to look for a document - it'd much much easier to have a link. Is this doable?

    Hi Gary, this is as awesome as your Income Tax Accounts spreadsheet which I set up in 2020 Tx to you! At the end of that one you explained how a new year could be started on the same spreadsheet so as not to have to re-create the formulas for a different year - I tried it in 2021 and 2022 it failed somehow and had to bite the bullet. Usually you don't do that. Spreadsheets are not meant to "push" values like that, but use references to other cells to calculate values. For your use, just hide the columns you don't want to see at the moment.

  • @tomlewis4748

    I'm a bit puzzled by creating a link to a sheet in a cell. What might be the advantage of that? isn't there a 'link' to every sheet directly beneath the menubar already? (which I would like to see Apple give us an option to hide-if you expect to have one sheet only, that indication serves no purpose and does nothing but take up real estate)

    • @macmost

      Depends how you design your document. If you have a calculation on sheet 1 and want to link to the sheet where the source values are located, a link right there in the next cell is probably going to be better than having to look in the list of sheets at the top and identify the correct sheet by its title.

      @@macmost Yes, that's exactly what I mean. Why shouldn't something so simple and practical be built in? My sheet has several hundred lines with different thematic sections, and I just want to have an overview/summary at the top that I can click on, and then it jumps to the corresponding chapter (you can imagine how long it takes and how tedious it is to scroll down each time, especially since the sheet's position is reset to the top each time you switch sheets). And no, I don't want to create more sheets. I already have a lot of them that are for other topics. Anyway, thanks for the reply.

      @@terencehill3972 Tables work best when they contain the same type of data. Like rows of records in a database. If your table has "sections" then it is something you should break into multiple tables. See ruclips.net/video/GHJ6z33CBpU/видео.html Then once they are in multiple tables you can click on the Sheet tab at the top of the screen and select a table and jump right to it.
