    Great introduction to Numbers. I watch your videos showing how to use a specific app or topic even if I think I know the topic only to find out I didn't know as much as I thought . Your discussion of footers in this video is a good example of not knowing as much as I thought. Had to lookup function STRIPDURATION shown in an example format window. It just sounded interesting. I probably won't use it but thanks to your video and looking it up, I'm aware of it should a need arise. Thanks for the great job.

    I’ve been using Numbers for a while, and I didn’t know about that footer row tip. I’ve been making the totals row at the bottom without specifying it as a footer (which makes for extra - unnecessary - work, when you want to add a new data row right above the totals row.) Thanks, Gary!

    I love it how you can use different tables, like you explained. I think it makes numbers a more intuitive tool. My main wish for Numbers is that they make it possible to use data from different Numbers documents, like you can on excel, but I bet that would be a huge undertaking and unlikely to happen.

    Mac user since 1986. By the time Numbers came along, I like most other people had been using Excel for a number of years. My rule for new tech is, if it’s better than the old tech I’ll use it. I’ve tried several times to get into Numbers and frankly, it’s just not better than Excel. LibreOffice and Google Sheets basically follow the format of Excel, so I also use those spreadsheets. I guess my main problem with Numbers is that it changes many of the user procedures for formatting your spreadsheet without offering any real new benefits. I have to break old habits to learn something that gets me to the same place. I think Numbers is mostly for people who are brand new to using a spreadsheet and obviously use a Mac.

    • @macmost

      I used Excel and the like for years before Numbers. But the multi-table ability of Numbers makes it far more usable to me. Excel just looks archaic to me now. Like something from a previous era.

  • @WeberBaker
    @WeberBaker Год назад

    Great info. One of the things I so often forget is when using a filter. Example: if you ask to filter out grades > 90 you wont be the one that are exactly 90. I used to use just such a sheet when teaching and had to learn the hard way I was excluding kids from the “A” group and adding too many to the “F” group. 😆

  • @johnvender

    Another very helpful video. One thing that is likely very easy but I haven't worked out yet is if I select part of a Numbers table, copy it to the clipboard and then paste into a Pages document I get a table with that data. I generally want just the text with tabs separating the column data on each row. Even if I Paste and Match Style I still get a table in the Pages document. The work around I've been using is creating a new TextEdit document, do Paste and Match Style into it, select all, copy and then in the Pages document Paste and Match Style. I'd love a way to do this directly from Numbers to Pages.

    • @macmost

      Using TextEdit as a go-between is the way.

I create calendar logs and like to see when something has been accomplished & like to X off the cells once things have been completed. So, until "Numbers" app has an added option like that, I still prefer to use "Excel".

    Hi, I have a problem in Numbers, could you make a video explaining stuff needed for that?
    I have a personal budget for which I used a template contained in the Numbers (the one with the circle graph - real expenses - at the top left, column graph - budget x reality - next to it and a table detailing the categories at the bottom left) in the first sheet. There’s a sheet summarising the expenses and a transactions sheet for writing each expense. I want to have a summary for each month in a year (one summary sheet for January, one for February etc.). Right now I always duplicate both the summary and transactions sheet and reroute the summary to the new transactions sheet. I’d like to set the summary sheets in such a way that they all use the same transactions sheet but only select the transactions from the month related to them. But I don’t know how the correct syntax for the IF function (particularly the logical condition) to accomplish that. Or if you already made a video for this, can you give its name please?
