Love the shout out to Mother's Finest! King's X fans definitely need to check them out, if you haven't yet...

King's X first kicked my ass on the "Ear Candy" tour. Loved them ever since.

Same here...listened to them since I was a kid, but I moved to Houston in '95, and they headlined Buzzfest (the big alt rock festival here in H-town) to support Ear Candy, and I was right next to the stage by dUg the entire show! I was already a fan, but after seeing them live, they rocketed to the top of my favorite bands list and have stayed there with only a handful of others. I've since seen them live at least once on every tour following that one.

dUg's commentary about Living Colour is right on point. Vivid made me go, "hmmm," but then Time's Up came out when I was a freshman in college...and man, digging into the lyrics there changed my worldview. It taught me, as a white kid, to stop being defensive and understand other people's experiences. Man, what a tour de force of an album. Just brilliant.
I caught them with Extreme on the tour this year...and it was absolutely killer. Both bands.

studio one... and the Pony show 94 ! to me.... that was the first time they did OMH with the crowd singing... you can tell from dUg's reaction (and also my recollection)... the bootleg is pretty rough but it was such a different show compared to the next (wild) night @ Roseland... great interview man!

It was interesting to hear Dug's opinion on The Commodores after reading his authorised biography "What You Make It"... Dug was at the same high school at the same time as Lionel Richie (who i detest!), one year apart, and didn't make his feelings clear but they must've interacted as both were singers and Dug got involved with everything musical in high school... I would love to hear more about his school experiences with him! 😂

I've never heard Doug mention this, but "Over My Head" is actually the name of a gospel song. I assume that was why he used that phrase, because maybe that's one of the gospel songs that his grandmother listened to or sang. It actually says "Up above my head, I hear music in the air".

Yup, sung by Sister Rosetta Tharpe as I recall.
