He was considered the fastest player for a number of years- I think Eddie Van Halen then took the title. I forget how many notes per second Alvin could play but it was up there-both we’re then smoked by Yngwie Malmsteen years later-I don’t know who smoked him but regardless Alvin Lee was just a great musician all around and great singer too. Enjoy
Shiny! Alvin Lee is one of my guitar heroes, and those who make it to hero status is a pretty short list. I lose track of how many times I saw Ten Years After live. I was never disappointed. I never met him, but myriad interviews tells me he was a good and humble person. This song deserves a very high place in the pantheon of truly great songs. As always, thank you for your significant contribution to the education of guitar players everywhere everywhen.
Great Lesson James. You are my fave guitar dude on RUclips - you get straight to it without all the preening and goofball self-promotion found by many of your contemporaries - lots of great tunes, always well explained plus you play very well - keep it up, brother!
Have yet to fully understand why the band and Alvin never played the song live and why, IMHO, most of the tracks from their best (and best selling) album (Space In Time) were played upon release and never again.
Really enjoy your to the point approach. Just makes it so much easier. I have a Hummingbird but, I really love the sound of your SJ-200. You can't beat the big, rich sounds of these beautifully crafted instruments. Thanks JJ.
This was just great James -great song, one of my favorites. For what it is worth, I have it on good authority -regarding your visitor during the video- that squirrels love Ten Years After; it's a thing with them. Thanks again man.
Always loved TYA seen them live a couple times. Awesome live performance. I figured out this song years ago but never used the B7 instead i played either the Emaj or Emaj 7..oops! Thanks for the correction!
I practiced this introduction riff until my fingers bled on my first guitar, a Pan H-DL. Frustrated the hell out of me because I was trying to play it by ear and couldn't get it to spund right because the 2nd guitar is slightly behind the first in time. Good memories
Luis Corro I went to a 10 Years After with Sly and the Family Stone concert at Cincinnati Gardens expecting to see this performed live and was majorly disappointed. I never understood why he didn’t perform it live because I KNOW he had the chops to do it.
Great job as always, but something was just sticking out the entire time to me. How tall are you if you make the SJ-200 look smaller than a dreadnought? I'm 6'2 & would love if it fit me that nice! :D
J(J)ames... I like the counting for time signatures. I take it's 4/4..yea? ....or 1, 2, 3, 4, & ? maybe on some arpeggios. I'm a very amateur starter...cool and muchas garcias amigo!
Блин, ломает немного мой прямой, изувеченный 4/4 мозг... Это вступление вообще в размер ложиться? Кто-нибудь может мне просто это изложить в 4/4 вселенной? :-)
The long answer is more complicated. Try Stochelo Rosenberg around the 2:00 mark and forward, although you should really listen to the whole piece. He's something else. Full disclosure: Alvin Lee's a huge hero of mine, but many folks are fast. ruclips.net/video/MeLxYHOPMyU/видео.html
I know this will come as a shock, but there is plenty of Internet content that was not produced for your specific needs. It will also come as a shock to hear that nobody cares what you think.
@@jamesjames9275 Touche' JJ. Here you are offering your services for free, but it's just not good enough, for everyone. Sign of the times, my brother. I for one never look a "gift horse", in the mouth. Whatever a gift horse is. LOL
thx for the flashback to 1971 :) 50 years later and the song still stands the test of time....great great rock song!
One of the first songs I learned back in the early 70's. RIP Alvin Lee.
Instablaster
Always loved Alvin Lee's guitar playing on this track!!
Alvin Lee was a true guitar god just never got the recognition of the other greats!!!
I think Alvin Lee is the most underrated guitarist out there
Deserves way more credit for his ability
Great vid James
Thank you
Tripull3 You sir are absolutely correct! I love Alvin's playing.

Sadly he's no longer with us.
One of my favorite guitarists of all time. I recommend every beginner learn this. Thanks again. Always top notch content!

Great lesson JJ. One of my favorite songs of all time. Just simple straightforward song. Thanks brother ✌🏻

Been playin it for years...now I know how. thank you sir James.
Brings back beautiful memories! Thanks JJ
whooot thanks a timeless classic, and a great solo
I really like the tone of that Gibson.
So do I. Best acoustic guitar I've ever owned.
well done. one of the first songs i learned to play. R.I.P. Alvin

Love this song so much..great job! thank you! 🤩
you save me all the time!!! LOVE all your stones stuff - I played Mick and now Keith - I couldn't have done it without you!!!
Maybe it wasn't a squirrel. Maybe it was a chipmunk...named Alvin. Thanks for showing TYA some love.
Thx. Clear and simple explanation. Love that song. LOL go find the other guy for the electric part! Priceless!

Ohhhh, man!!!! Thank you so much!!!!
This made my week!!!!
Alvin Lee was one of the VERY BEST!!!!
Awesome lesson 👍!!!
Fucking love this tune.
How did I ever miss this!!!???? Awesome!!!!
The acoustic in this definitely has a Townshend quality hence the SJ 200. Nice job!
JJ -- "Guitar Solo close-up view - Alvin Lee - I'd Love To Change The World" is pretty good, for an SG anyway, should be a 335 imho
Hay JJ This was one of the first tunes I saw you play years ago OH YAH!!
The lead has the tone of the gods.
Man I love that guitar. Looks like something a cartel boss would own.
Excellent dude !
Love this song! Thanks to show us.
Excellent!
I love the pizza tee shirt, pepperoni 🍕 on it as well. Another yummy video from James James!
I practiced this introduction riff until my fingers bled on my first guitar, a Pan H-DL. Frustrated the hell out of me because I was trying to play it by ear and couldn't get it to spund right because the 2nd guitar is slightly behind the first in time. Good memories
Once again. Thanks James.
As always James, Excellent! 💪
Beautiful sounding Gibson JJ. Your playing ain’t half bad neither. Thanks as always for a blast from the past.
This is so awesome! Cheers!
Ten Years After biggest hit that while Alvin Lee was alive and in the band, was not played live.
Luis Corro I went to a 10 Years After with Sly and the Family Stone concert at Cincinnati Gardens expecting to see this performed live and was majorly disappointed. I never understood why he didn’t perform it live because I KNOW he had the chops to do it.
Insanely beautiful song, thanks James
I was just jamming out on this myself!
It's the same guy of a 2009 vid "privettricker". The guitar is so unique
Your t-shirt is making me hungry
Ha! I was thinking the same thing...
I never sold my guitar either Alvin.
Great lesson! Such a fun song to play
Thank you!!!!!
Great tune.

Alvin Lee was the squirrel; he stopped by to groove and say "thanks, mate"!
Nailed it !
tax the rich... feed the poor..
Till there ain't no rich no more
If you see Moose and Squirrel; call me
Well done James James,I wondered how the rest of that song went. Thx

Thank you for this lesson!
That's a sweet guitar you're playing.
Amazing
You are a cool gutiar man.
Hi i love this been trying to learn this song forever i just cant figure out how to play the courds
I have seen Alvin Lee 3 times once with Mick Taylor playing with him he is a relentless guitarist
- You're truly a lucky man. All I got is Tom Jones in a shop in Century City.
Well...Alvin Lee likes this riff so much, he stays on it through the entire song..lol.
So that’s how you do it, lol.
Squirrel wants to learn the song.
Squirrel! LoL!!!
Do you mean the guy @Playguitarsolos?
Thanks for this. I'd forgotten how good it is.
That last note coming back on the C chord before the B7 is off putting to me for some reason.
Great job. I play it with the A chord during the chorus. Sounds better to me
Is it standard tuning
I'm hungry for pizza now! Is Tom Lane the guy you were referencing for the solo?
Can I like it again?
Don't make my head any bigger than it already is.
Did you see that Alvin Lee’s Gibson ES 335 was up for auction! $$$$ ?
Believe it or not, I didn’t buy it.
😂
@@jamesjames9275 Pity. I believe you would have done it proud.

Th electric parts over at a channel called lead solo
🤘🏼✌🏼
tropic thunder lmao
has any man played the guitar quite as fast as Alvin Lee??? Short answer, no.
