  • Tristán White and Sharon Crawford visit the Barking Abbey ruins and talk about the history of the Abbey, Barking's many saints, and the Dissolution of the Monasteries. After a quick explanation about who the Grindr Killer was, Stephen Port, which made the churchyard infamous, they visit the Curfew Tower and its Holy Rood, guided by the wonderful vicar Mark Adams, who also takes them on a tour of the adjacent St Margaret's Church (Margaret of Antioch). They end the episode talking about the Three Lamps, Barking's political history over the past 100 or so years (including the rise and fall of the BNP/National Front) and then try to find somewhere to sit down, which is not as easy as they thought.

What beautiful views over Barking and a privilege to see inside that lovely Curfew, a reminder of Merry Old Catholic England. Billy loves his East Lonon roots.

Love this. I was born and raised in barking. Went to st margarets school just behind the abbey. My mum was married in St margarets church. Then my auntie was married there. I went to Barking abbey comprehensive school. Barking has changed so much since I was there 😢

The church was always the town's church and distinct from the Abbey Church. The Parish idea came later.

    Interesting episode.
However, Jesus/Prophet Isa (Peace be upon him) was a Muslim. We believe he ascended and will return (second coming) to kill the false Messiah - who is known as al-masih ad-dajjal (the anti-Christ) in Islam.
He worshipped the One true God - Allah.
The concept of the trinity is baseless. It's a cruci-FICTION.
Jesus Christ never claimed to be the son of God and never claimed divinity.
So called namesake 'christians' use emotional reasoning, not based on facts. They are an emotionally driven community.
The beauty of Islam is that it is strictly monotheistic. Muslims worship Allah alone and don't associate partners with Him.
The sin of blasphemy/associating partners with Allah is the ONE sin that Allah will never forgive. That is if you die having not repented of this sin.
The beauty of Islam is that it is a holistic way of life.
It works on the mental, physical and spiritual parts of the individual.
It is a very community based way of life. We only want the best for humanity, and it's our duty as Muslims to invite to the call of Islam.
We also believe that Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was the final messenger of Allah. The seal of all prophets. He was sent to the whole of humanity and as a mercy. He was sent with the miraculous and final revelation (from Allah) - The Holy Qur'an.
Islam - The one and only true religion.

Dont make this about religion!!!its about Barking Town and its history NOT about islam

@@kendavies502 It doesn't work that way.
If this episode involved LBGTQP+ (The P is for paedophilia, because I reject the LBGTQP+, hypersexualized, aberrant, transgressors movement) then you wouldn't mind reading about it in the comments section, but if Islam is mentioned then you behave in a bigoted way?
As you well know that they (LYL) encourage their audience to leave comments. Free-for-all comments that is.
You are NOT in authority to decide what is mentioned in the comments.
I have nothing more to offer than the truth.
My comment is the inconvenient truth to you, and all you have to offer is bigotry and censorship?
You're taking very cheap shots. Did it hurt your fragile ego that badly?
The truth of Islam is reaching the 4 corners of the world.
When I see the name of God being mentioned, I take it as an opportunity to invite the masses to Islam.

How sad that you missed the Orthodox people on the day they were meant to come. But perhaps you could not have had as much access.
