    Yeah! So stoked for this! It’s never about having the best, rarest, plants. In fact, I prefer when people have more common plants, plants that we can all obtain relatively easily. I love seeing how other people style the plants. What kind of planters they use. How they find the window space for them. Etc.

    So true about interests reigniting!!! When I was 12 I started cleaning house for an elderly neighbor. She insisted on giving me an ugly snake plant. I reluctantly accepted it. Long story short, it turned into a lovely plant under my care! Many years later, I'm into it more than ever! Plants are my stress reliever... 😊 Loved your plant tour!!!

    💚Fungus gnats? I have none. Learned a trick...tie on a sewing thread/threads near plants on plants whatever...run a fan/fans/ceiling fan whatever on "low" "24/7" and as long as the thread/threads are moving you will have no gnats! This has worked for me for a long time now. Never turn fans off or the gnats will return, promise. I tried it. Amazing, well done video Ashley! Loved it!💚

    I've noticed that a lot of plant enthusiasts who grew up with a lot of plants in their childhood, end up collecting and caring for them. As for me, my parents loved to grow palms and orchids. I end up collecting 100+ cacti and succulents haha. I love this video. Great job! ❤️

    Your plants are GORGEOUS!
    I live close to my community pond. Fungus Gnats are terrible this year.
    Things I use to keep them at bay are...
    -Moisture meter. I left my plants dry out so FG do not like the dry soil.
    -Neem oil, peppermint soap and water spray. I always spray the top of the soil after I water a plant.
    -Sticky traps. Raid makes fly traps that look like paper towel rolls with two ends. They are very sticky.
    -Apple cider vinegar traps. I use glass shot glasses with ACV with a drop of dish soap.
    Good luck!
    Gerry

      Last year, I had a horrific fungus gnat issue, that really messed with my jungle. Looking online I found that diatomaceous earth worked wonders. So, I gave it a try also using neem oil, and mosquito bits. Now I rarely see any bug a boos flying into my nose. Lol

    • @hpeteacher9445
      @hpeteacher9445 4 года назад +1

      @@gomezjason47 Thanks for the reply. I tried DE too. I used to put smoothie straws into the soil and put a bolt in the open end. I used a pump sprayer to water the plants. Just was very time consuming.
      I have used Gnat Nix and that works better as a barrier to cut the FG and they die.

      The mosquito dunk bits work for the fungus gnats, I found Bt for fungus gnats at Southern States mix with water and they are gone, also a sprinkle of cinnamon on top of the soil helps eliminate them from coming back. Had them bad last year but nothing at all this year.

    My tip for string of pearls; lots of light (on the top as well so it doesn’t go bald). They can handle tons of light. Also let it TOTALLY dry out before watering. They’re succulents so they prefer to not always be wet. They’ll get root rot pretty easy. When mine are indoors I only water them once a week. If you by chance do let it go a tad too long dry you’ll know 😂 the leaves get wrinkled. Don’t loose hope. I killed 2 before I learned the secret and now I have 2 who are crazy long 💕 if by chance something happens you can luckily water propagate the remaining good stems and keep going! Good luck! 🍀

    Loved this commentary on your so-loved plants. Hello from Australia, I grow many of these but cannot spend too much ...now on a pension. We are in winter of course and many of my 100 indoors need repotting but it’s still too cold. We never get snow, I live near the southern ocean and many more plants such as cacti, succulents, bulbs live outside with overhead trees to protect them from the very hot summers. Love my plants and so enjoyed your attitude.

    You have quite the collection. The little mam cactus in the turtle, your Lithops, Raven ZZ, and your variegated (and green also) string of hearts are in need of a lot more light. They are extremely leggy. I saw more that needed light but was distracted. Your "Lemon Lime" Philo is actually "Limelight" or 'Aureum'. Lemon Lime is a patented plant and is what people call a Lemon Lime Upright. Staghorn needs a lot of humidity. It's best kept outside in the shade during warmer months.

    More moss to hold moisture . I have mine outside but I'm in Florida.

    I have just recently learnt from my plant shop that string of pearls is mostly dependant on light! So if its not happy its most likely not getting enough light, I would move them both to a bright spot and see what happens ❤

  • @SG-ns8rb
    @SG-ns8rb 4 года назад +4

    Try upping the light for your string of pearls! I’m dying to get a variegated one like yours because of the insane growth my regular one gives me. I let mine completely go BONE dry and then wait a couple more days before watering totally through and have it hanging in a S/ SE window and give it more light than most of my other succulents. I’ve heard they’ll keep growing into winter and actually like colder temperatures as well!

    i am also obsessed with tropicals and I have them crammed in the living room. I have french door that get morning sun and the whole side of windows as the sun moves come in the windows. The front picture window gets the setting sun but the porch blocks the direct sun but it is still bright and I have a plant stand with aquarium grown lights to help. Last year there were over 100 pots I had to move inside before the frost. I am east of you by 40 miles. I get most of my plants on vacations to visit family in Florida. I just love shopping my favorite plant stores down there.

Wet it really good. They seem to like high humidity.Try to imitate it's natural enviroment. They live in the crook of trees. The crook of the tree holds moisture after it rains. I had a huge one years ago. I watered in the bathtub. It got so big I had to move it outside and hang it on the fence!! In the summer in the heat I watered every day. Also liquid Miracle gro 1time per month. Good Luck!!!!

    Watching your video from the Phil, stag horn is more of a fern than an air plant I think...here at home it is planted in a pot with soil, moist most of the time, humid but shaded area and it blooms into a lush tall fern with so many pups. Others are making it into a hanging plants too as when it grows so full the leaves tend to droop, still beautiful to look at in a round big hanging basket.

    Greetings from Las Vegas! It seems to me like you have more than 100 plants. You have a lot of plants in every room of your house. I like your pot esthetics. Most of your plants have white matching pots. You have a lot of babies and new leaves.

    MAKE A VIDEO GOING TO YOUR FAVORITE NURSERIES! I am local to Charlotte and would love to see! I just went to Malone's Nursery the other day and they had a great selection! mostly succulents, which im not really a fan of, but I found some great finds too! They also usually have some free plants just that weren't doing so well so I rescued a BEAUTIFUL moonshine sansevieria which ive wanted for a while--perfectly healthy, just a few burn spots I cut off!

    Hi Ashley!! I have watched a lot of your videos. I even went on the road trip with you😂 Your collection is AMAZING. I love the heads up penny. I'm putting one in all my plants tomorrow, it can't hurt. The last leaf on my maharani died a couple days ago🥺 and I haven't had much luck with calatheas. So I'll enjoy those vicariously through people like you.

    I have my staghorn in an orchid vanda basket and it seems to really like it. You can stuff it with soil/bark/moss but it’s still nice and aerated! 🤷‍♀️ loved this video!

    My Peperomia Caperata Verigata looked like yours. All the leaves fell off and the stem was only left. Then surprisingly the leaves grew back. I think it is ok with dying back and coming back.

    Loved the tour! I've been watching your videos ever since I started my house plant collection. It's grown exponentially the last few months, I'm obsessed! I use to live in the Charlotte area, but moved to the Myrtle Beach area a couple years ago. I recently travelled to Charlotte, and thanks to you and your videos I was able to hit so many awesome nurseries!! I'm looking forward to another trip up there soon! There are so many awesome places for plant shopping there!! 😍

      Yeah! Malone's was so awesome! I got a black velvet alocasia for half off because there was quite a bit of damage to a couple leaves. I was giddy about it all weekend it's so beautiful. It's not put out any new growth yet, but I'm hoping it will soon! Pike's is super nice too! I wish we had more plant shops down here!

    Medusa air plant! That's what I have! Thank you. Mine was recently attacked by birds (they killed my chick plant too) so I'm hoping despite having 2 leaves picked off and damage to the bottom it can pull through. I consider it in serious but stable condition.

    I have a black anthurium! I keep him at work with my cactus, they're bros. I named them Pain and Panic, because of course.
    I looooove your syngonium 😍
