The passage about Brainerd's prayer life is really inspiring.. Time Stamp 13:14. Thank you for your teaching.

    7:14
Wow, that January 14 entry reflects how I feel so often these days! I so desperately want my life to count for Christ. The thought of standing before Him with nothing to show for my (so far) over 50 years of life on this planet sends me into near panic. The older I get, the more aware I am of the reality that time is running out. I want my life to be so much more than it is. But I'm trapped in a situation over which I have very little control.

I have those feelings also. One of my comforts is that God knows our end as well as our beginning. He knows every move and thought I will still make and yet chose me from the foundation of the world.
A video that helped me ALOT was from the channel Fighting for the Faith with Chris Rosebrough. It was entitled I think Narcissistic Catechism about Francis Chan. He taught everything you do for God has to be super special and unless it is your failing🤦‍♀️God bless🙏

Don't listen to guys like David Platt and Francis Chan telling you to live like a church rat and donate all your money to their ministries, while they live in rich suburbs

That was excellent, Matthew. Brainerd continues to directly impact lives, even centuries after his death.

Spurgeon also struggled with depression. Nice to know that there are people who struggle who are used mightily by God. In today's evangelical culture you'd really wonder sometimes. Not so much in Reformed circles, but definitely in the evangelical world as a whole, you'd really wonder if any leaders struggle. Thanks, Pastor Matt.

I just finished re-reading his journal. Yes, he seems to have been afflicted with chronic depression. Nevertheless that didn't discourage him from a level of commitment barely understandable in today's culture. He puts me to shame.

How would RPTS compare to RTS? Just wondering...if anyone knows. Looks like RTS is much bigger.

Oh! I was so interested in reading this book! (I may have learned of it from you?) I don't usually like to read diaries/letters. I need to know the person gave permission to make them public. It seems so very wrong to read them otherwise.
Hm, I'm not seeing how to download the online version, though.

David Brainerd had a lesser-known cousin, Daniel Brainerd M.D., who started the Daniel Rush Medical College.

Reading brainerds journal made me become internally focused, introspective, bent in on my own sin and shortcomings, due to feeling like I needed the same level of religious manic like desires. I wouldn’t recommend it to most Christians. I think you have to separate the healthy from unhealthy in his writings. Could improve that in this presentation.

Why are Americans so obsessed with romance and rumours? Iain Murray, who wrote the most recent biography of Edwards insists there was no indication there was any romantic involvement between Edward's daughter and Brainerd.

David Brainerd is my first cousin, a few times removed of course.
