  • Which will he choose? his career, or the woman he loves? Johnnie Byrne is a member of the British Parliament. In his 40s, he's feeling frustrated with his life and his personal as well as professional problems tower up over him.     This is an excellent film with some logical but surprising twists at the end. It shows how politics corrupts. No better actor than Peter Finch - he won one of his 5 BAFTAs for this.

    Amazing! An intelligent movie for adults. These are very rare today 2024. Hollywood today is utterly incapable of making a movie this good.

      They could remake this film and it would be a flop. There is very little talent anymore thats why I watch old films.

    great movie,,,i did not have to look at the credits ,,,as soon as i heard the first two chords, i knew the great malcom arnold wrote the music,,,englands answer to bernard hermann

    El protagonista al final se quedó sin pan y pedazo. Si tratan de entender a las mujeres, te aseguro que morirás en el intento... pero, así y todo, son tan necesarias y nuestras compañeras en la ùnica vida que tendremos. Buena película, como nos tiene acostumbrado el cine inglés. That's all my folks.

    Some very fine actors in a great movie. Enjoyed watching.
    The only thing was that Johnny's wife had the look and presentation of a 1940s woman more suited to a horror noir movie.
    Had they done that because she was a communist?
