If the film or TV show does not come specifically captioned by the maker, then the captioning is not accurate because it is done “automatically“ by a computer. That will never be perfect, but if you are hearing impaired these captions are quite enough to give you an understanding of what’s happening in the story. Just don’t believe them 100%.
Captioning is available in about 16 world languages, plus English. If you’re not sure how to access those captions, I will walk you through the steps. It’s probably the aging source, the soundtrack is changed a bit overtime. I recommend you adjust the playback speed to 1.25 and then try 1.5 speed, and see if that helps. It certainly helped me!
The top is not cropped off on my iPhone. Evidently this RUclips posting appears differently depending upon what device we are using. For many of us it has been darkened and the playback speed has been altered. It’s been very helpful for me to be able to turn the speed up to 1.25, and to use the captions even though they are not 100% perfect. If part of the video is chopped off, I hope you can try watching on a different device! I also hear that This series is available on Amazon prime without any alterations.
Adjust the sound speed to 1.25 and then reduce your bass and increase the treble on your speaker control, you can usually save your original settings to return to when you've watched the show. Often people alter the sound or picture to "trick" the youtube licence. I don't think it's fooling anyone...so I don't know why people do it.
Thank you for the effort but the sound is terrible and all the voices sound like they're speaking through a voice altering box used by kidnappers and murderers.
Where or How did this man come up with such great numerous mysterious ideas of Sherlock Holmes, by Arthur Conan Doyle, the answer might come from this movie. 🤔Thanks RUclips the story of Himself, 4-21-24

It is playing back at too low and slow of a speed. It helped me very much to increase the speed to 1.25 x, while another person here prefers 1.5 x. When it’s too slow, the voices are too low and unclear. Choosing captions is also helpful although not 100% accurate translation. Captions are available in 17 languages.
Sadly, you are right. Nevertheless, we have the option of persevering, and hope to grit our teeth and enjoy the story. The quality does improve so have patience. Cheers from LONDON Canada, August 28, 2020
@beckyjacobsen5867: Evidently there are playback differences depending upon what type of device we are using to watch. On some devices you can easily change the playback speed and captions, brightness etc. On my phone after touching the ⚙️ gear icon and Captions, then I can choose English. If I touch Auto Translate instead, then I get a list of 16 other languages in which I could watch the captions. But I agree that the captions are not well done. This is because they were not done by a human; rather they are done by inaccurate computer voice recognition. Still, I find having some captions to be better than none at all.
no the subtitles are ridiculous and make no sense. it is just a bunch of english words thrown together and it has nothing to do with what is said. total nonsense.
@@anastasia10017Since they are based on what the computer can hear rather than a human being involved, they are often incorrect. But for me I have found some thing is better than nothing; and I really appreciate that captioning is available in 17 languages!
Martin Clunes is excellent as usual, but I would not have cast Hattie Morahan as Jean. I have a slight hearing deficit and so I notice when actors speak clearly. Morahan does not. I also noticed when attempting to lip-read, that she has a speech impediment. This is not unusual among successful actors: Christian Bale , Bruce Willis, James Earl Jones and many others have them. However if they articulate clearly, they can overcome the problem.
Try increasing the speed. Try x 1.25 speed, and x 1.5 speed. I believe either the soundtrack is degrading from age, or else perhaps it was artificially slowed down in an effort to evade copyright? I can understand it better, but the picture is so dark it’s hard to understand everything that’s happening. I may just need to read the book.
Evidently the alterations to this video appear differently, depending upon what device we are using. Since the playback speed has been altered, it helped me a great deal to change the playback speed to 1.25 or 1.5. I believe playback speed and darkness have been altered in an attempt to avoid a copyright strike on this channel. I hear it is available without alteration on Amazon Prime and other platforms.
Try adjusting the speed to 1.25. It made a big difference for me. You also may want to listen with headphones or earbuds. When I do that it gives me a much wider range of volume to choose from.
Have you tried watching on different devices? Different devices have different ranges of volume available. Another thing that really helps me is to wear earbuds or headphones. By doing that I can double the range of audio playback options.
Have you tried choosing your preferred language out of the captioning list? First touch the ⚙️ gear icon, then the word “Captions”, and then touch the words “Auto translate.” This will bring up a list of language options, 15 or 16 different languages to choose from. It is not perfect translation done by a human though, it is voice recognition done by a computer. There are many wrong words, so I recommend speeding up the playback speed also. I find it easier to understand at 1.25 or 1.5 x speed! I hope these tips help you.

So if you have prime subscription, yes, they have this series, but you have got to subscribe to watch it. Does that make sense?? All about the $$$$$ for bezos.
I watched on RUclips just found it 2024
I can understand it ok. Enjoying on my iPad.
Nancy Altman Me too.
I agree, everybody's voices have been altered to sound much deeper and distorted. Annoying. And it all looks so visually dark.
Agree on both points ..Apparently to avoid copyright rules..unwatchable for me
Adjust your playback speed...1.25 (& brightness)
Rubbish. Martin Cloones is speaking in his normal voice - with a deep Scottish brogue (accent.)
It's called "playing a character" role. 🙄
It begins with a sick wife dying in her (victorian) death bed. Not on holiday. 🤣
@@charliesmith_ I believe the playback speed was slightly altered to evade copyright, or else the soundtrack is just aged overtime. Give it a try at 1.5 speed, and then try 1.25 speed playback, and see if that doesn’t help you like it did us.
@@SalyLuz-hc6he l did. Was pointless. There's plenty of footage in it where that would just make Martin and the women sound like children.
It was a TV series in UK. Not a film. I just thought it was boring as the storyline was too ponderous. Twice! Why l never watched it far, when it was first aired on tv. My thought at that time was that it was too ponderously directed. It still is. Not one for me.
I really wanted to see this but the overall quality is such it is unwatchable.
Pitty, only 360p quality.
The closed caption on youtube is horrible.
@@SalyLuz-hc6hel'm not hearing impaired but non- English so caption faulty or not is most helpful.
Captioning is available in about 16 world languages, plus English. If you’re not sure how to access those captions, I will walk you through the steps. I’m watching on an apple iPhone, so if you are watching on a different device, it could be slightly different. But this is what works well for me.
First I touch the gear ⚙️ icon in the upper right corner of my screen. Then I touch the word “Captions.” Next I touch the “Auto - Translate“ option. That brings up a list of 16 languages from which to choose. I hope this helps you! 🌅🌞🌻
So, Darth Vader occupied everyone in this series. 😂
It’s probably the aging source, the soundtrack is changed a bit overtime. I recommend you adjust the playback speed to 1.25 and then try 1.5 speed, and see if that helps. It certainly helped me!
Why is the top cropped off ? Can I fix it on my iPad?
The top is not cropped off on my iPhone. Evidently this RUclips posting appears differently depending upon what device we are using. For many of us it has been darkened and the playback speed has been altered.
It’s been very helpful for me to be able to turn the speed up to 1.25, and to use the captions even though they are not 100% perfect. If part of the video is chopped off, I hope you can try watching on a different device! I also hear that This series is available on Amazon prime without any alterations.
sound is bad ..it is hard to understand what is being said ...tooo bad looks like an interesting series
+ The Maggie Dress, I agree, you can find a better version on dailymotion.
I agree. It always makes it difficult for me when the audio and video aren't synced.
'Arthur And George' (1995) or (2015)?.
Hilarious subtitles!! 😁🤣😂
They almost always are.
Yes, that’s what captions look like when a computer does them! Evidently computers can’t hear well. 😊
Martin Clunes makes me SWOON! ❤❤❤❤❤
@Anthony LoveJesus not true. He’s married to the producer/ director
This is awesome!
Yes, the sound setting to 1.25 helps a great deal----
Thank you for the effort but the sound is terrible and all the voices sound like they're speaking through a voice altering box used by kidnappers and murderers.
Adjust your playback speed. 1.25
Where or How did this man come up with such great numerous mysterious ideas of Sherlock Holmes, by Arthur Conan Doyle, the answer might come from this movie. 🤔Thanks RUclips the story of Himself, 4-21-24
Martin Clunes was the voice of Kipper the Dog
How old is this series? After Doc Martin?
What a pity that these British videos are such poor quality! Surely in this day and age with all the technology available the photography and colour could be much, much better.
I suspect that this is a poor copy of the original.
@@ccs8575 What racism? Are you so stupid and of very limited intelligence that everything you do not agreed with is racist? You cannot except the truth when you see it.
@@seekerout it’s also possible that the video picture is darkened, and the audio is slow down in an effort to evade a copyright strike against this channel. If you’re watching on the computer, evidently you can lighten and brighten the image. On my phone, I am able to speed up playback to 1.25 or 1.5 speed, and That has helped me understand better. But I might just read the book so I can understand everything.
The audio is bad. Too bad.
Can’t understand, and the close caption is not good.
Sadly, you are right. Nevertheless, we have the option of persevering, and hope to grit our teeth and enjoy the story. The quality does improve so have patience. Cheers from LONDON Canada, August 28, 2020
Adjust your playback speed...1.25, Captions are improved as well. ☺
I goody! It’s Doc Martin!
These subtitles are created automatically, that's why the're so bad.. But for me as a foreigner it's a good help to catch a bit
no the subtitles are ridiculous and make no sense. it is just a bunch of english words thrown together and it has nothing to do with what is said. total nonsense.
@@anastasia10017Since they are based on what the computer can hear rather than a human being involved, they are often incorrect. But for me I have found some thing is better than nothing; and I really appreciate that captioning is available in 17 languages!
Michael Gregson!
This is great... 33:00
It might help you to also turn on the captions, and it has helped me a great deal to speed up the playback slightly to 1.25.
😢sound is awful 😢.
Doc, sounds like he's had a voice box transplant 😢😮
Try increasing the speed. Try x 1.25 speed, and x 1.5 speed. I believe either the soundtrack is degrading from age, or else perhaps it was artificially slowed down in an effort to evade copyright? I can understand it better, but the picture is so dark it’s hard to understand everything that’s happening. I may just need to read the book.
Are these people speaking English? Incredible!
Conan Doyle was a Scot and a Parsee would have Indian roots.
I hear it is available without alteration on Amazon Prime and other platforms.
had to understand because of the volume for voices.....not sure
Try adjusting the speed to 1.25. It made a big difference for me. You also may want to listen with headphones or earbuds. When I do that it gives me a much wider range of volume to choose from.
It's TOO QUIET.
Have you tried watching on different devices? Different devices have different ranges of volume available. Another thing that really helps me is to wear earbuds or headphones. By doing that I can double the range of audio playback options.
@@SalyLuz-hc6he It's needlessly quiet. Of course I wear headphones; the best ones on Earth, which cost me over £200.

Meu sonho é assistir essa série legendada mas é impossível
Have you tried choosing your preferred language out of the captioning list? First touch the ⚙️ gear icon, then the word “Captions”, and then touch the words “Auto translate.” This will bring up a list of language options, 15 or 16 different languages to choose from. It is not perfect translation done by a human though, it is voice recognition done by a computer. There are many wrong words, so I recommend speeding up the playback speed also. I find it easier to understand at 1.25 or 1.5 x speed! I hope these tips help you.
Subtitles make no sense. Sorry to miss this.
The captions are not done by a human, but they are auto translate which is provided based upon computer recognition. It has helped me to increase the speed to 1.25. Perhaps you would prefer to read the book?
The closed caption button works if you have trouble understanding the dialog.
The subtitles are all wrong it’s funny to read
@@sharondates6059It’s good to take that attitude! While they are funny, I have found them to be some help and I’m thankful they are available in 17 languages. For me it was also a great help to increase the playback speed to 1.25 or 1.5 speed.

Not exactly. In this series we see portrayed a real occurrence in the life of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the author of Sherlock Holmes stories.

Couldn't even make it to 2 minutes. Dialogue is completely unintelligible. Sounds like they're all talking with their mouths stuffed full of cotton.
@trilbywilby7826 It helped me quite a lot to increase the playback speed to 1.25 or 1.5. I’m not sure, but it seems that the person who posted this did some things like slowing down the playback speed, muffling the voices, darkening the image. These type of alterations are often done in an attempt to avoid a copyright strike.
Doc Martin with a bit more compassion.
In This series he’s not playing someone who is autistic.
@@SalyLuz-hc6he True, the character of Doc M was cringe worthy. How anyone could lack such empathy particularly with his wife and child made the rest of the series unwatchable for me.
@@michaelyates5976 Well, we cannot blame autistic people for their brain being different! No autistic people asked for this type of challenge. Some of them, over the years can learn to show their love and more empathetic and compassionate ways. Have you ever watched the Big Bang Theory? If yes, which one of those characters has Autism? Yes this upload of the video has been altered, likely in an attempt to avoid a copyright strike on this channel. It does help to increase the playback speed to 1.25 or 1.5. I have heard that this same title is available in a much more clear and bright condition on platforms such as Amazon Prime, PBS and others.
wtf is with the subtitles ???? did somebody actually get paid for that ???
Not at all! RUclips uses auto translate, which means no Human is involved. This is based on what the computer can “hear,” And while there are many obvious incorrect words, some subtitles are more helpful than none at all. I do appreciate they are available in 17 languages, so if someone wants different languages they just need to touch the Auto Translate option.
Didn't he just bury his wife
Doyle was 1 of the biggest traitors of all time.
Even with setting for sound adjusted, this is muffled and muddy. Poor upload? Poor soundtrack? I thought Holmes' female visitor said something like, "Perhaps my turnbuckle and cod." Perhaps, indeed. Cannot watch, and doubt you'd want to waste your time either.
Jude Irwin oh yes yes it is truly difficult if your turnbuckle is cod and I am so glad mine isn’t ! Much more entertaining to discuss turnbuckle than what I thought she said about Michael and God
@@joanfordham1305 many of these captions are indeed laughable! But I do find them more helpful than no captions at all. HAHAHAHA the closed captioning is hilarious, must have been typed by an American

HHAHAHA! Miss Havisham! That is gold! Shes' so superior . . . then, not.
The captions are ridiculous, even over here in North America! RUclips has no interest in actually paying a person to type out what they hear - they are far too cheap for that.
