The show is very accurate to the video game. The couch scene, car scene, and Sarah’s death is very accurate to the game. Even some of the dialogue is the same. Very impressive pilot for a video game adaptation

Sarah has no flour for her pancakes, Nana is first seen eating biscuits that Joel then refuses because he's on a diet, Sarah doesn't take a cookie because she doesn't like raisins and Joel forgot to buy a birthday cake after work.
So, Contaminated flour started the outbreak?

It's likely not all flour would be contaminated, and taking a few details from one little neighborhood doesn't really define the rules for the entire world. It would be a simple enough explanation, however. I think it's best to not ask certain questions, sometimes.
@kawnartist this is a fan theory as it was verrrrru vaguely hinted at in the games. The inclusion of these details feels like they're confirming it to a degree without making it the focus of anything.
Also Jakarta, which was mentioned first on the radio, is one of the world's largest wheat importers. And happens to be a very warm environment.

I can appreciate how they build up the tension in the beginning.. the cop cars racing by..the lady at the store telling Sarah to go home... the fighter jets flying by. You almost have to remind yourself there's no social media in 2003 and you find shit out as ithappens. Subtle and brilliant 👏
there was social media in 2001 but not like it evolved to.
The video game is INCREDIBLE. I knew when playing the first one, that EVENTUALLY this was going to be made into a movie or something. The show really gives you the same feeling of playing the game. I love that it’s a show and not a movie, because this story, atmosphere, the “zombies” were all done so incredibly well that a movie wouldn’t do it justice. These characters, the journey, we are all in for an insane ride. Some of these scenes (like the first 20 mins of the show) is exactly like the game.
Game is equally as heartbreaking, beautiful, and phenomenal. Bella does thier thing as Ellie

Great reaction. The actress who plays Marlene is also the woman who voiced the character in the game. Which is pretty cool as it’s rare for that to happen.
And yes that’s Thandie’s daughter. :) she pulls off a decent American accent.
In the game the delivery system for the virus is primarily spores but bites can cause infection as well and is how Ellie got infected in game. It’s funny that Amber called spores out, since I think they changed the delivery system in the show to strictly bites. The infected are alive and somewhat aware for most of the infection stages : runner-clicker-bloater (there are other stages too). Late stage they embed themselves to a surface before death and begin releasing spores. That was the guy in the tunnels.
They took out spores because they said they realised that there's no way humanity would survive if it was airborne and there were spores everywhere. So to make it more plausible for TV audience they took out the spores. Spores can work in a gameplay sense.
Thandie Newton has three kids. Nico is the middle child. The eldest is an actress too.
To answer your question, yes the Video games is rough like this, but this hits hard even when i knew what was coming. I cant wait for the next episode.

This was a great episode. So far it has my attention. The Sarah death scene no matter video game as well tv series is one of the saddest moments. The cast and crew did a great job in this episode. I'm looking forward to episode 2.
Let´s fucking pray they don´t throw this like they did with TLOU 2. This looks really freaking promising tho.

The video game was a masterpiece of story. It felt like you were playing your part in a movie. And by the time the opening credits started for the game, your heart was already ripped out of your chest.

Im legitimately impressed with how well they managed to nail the vibe of the game. Especially in like the first half of the episode when everything was breaking loose. It kinda gives me hope for the god of war show

I'm really impressed by the pilot, how great they seem to be balancing the familiar with the new stuff. Pedro seems to be owning Joel's role already and so does Bella as Ellie.
11:40 Oh, it IS. There was no scene of a child burning like this tho. But you can come across a pile of burning innocent people. The game can be VERY grim. But it is also filled with natural beauty, and light-hearted moments. A nice balance.
that beginning was just like the game which is cool because the game was very cinematic.
The video game is the best delivered story ever told in video game format. They would have to try hard to mess it up because the game is practically perfect - yup, both of them. I’m hopeful we will be getting a part 3 and seeing that adapted as well.

Another entertaining reaction ladies. I cant wait to see yall reaction throughout the episodes. Sarah scene still gets me so emotional. Now I need to watch along with yall on Patreon. Also, every infected can kiss my behind from playing the games viewpoint. I went into the show open minded with the casting. The show definitely met my expectations and great acting so far for me.
As a extremely huge Last of Us fan who absolutely loves both games Part 1 and 2 finds the first episode very accurate to the game I have high hopes for this series can't wait for episode 2 🙂

Most of the science in the intro segment is exaggeration of course, but it is true that fungal diseases are harder to treat than bacterial infections because fungi, like humans, are made of eukaryotic cells and share the same basic cell structures. This makes it very difficult to find a treatment that targets the fungus and not the humans
Yes I have played the video game and the TV show has lived up to or surpassed expectations because video game adaptions usually fall flat and fail most of the times. And you really don't have to play the game to get into the show if it's really well written. The show will probably even get more people to play the game now. Glad you guys are enjoying it so far.

I played the video game several times and was so excited for the show. I'm even more excited stumbling upon your channel! I feel like I'm watching the show with my cousins lol. The show definitely lived up to my expectations. There were a couple of things they changed but they kept the spirit of the game true. I'm looking forward to seeing if the show gets as dark as the game though.

Video game is possibly more brutal than this, because it's interactive so you are complicit in the actions the characters take. It also means you get invested pretty quick if you are the type that gets plugged into characters.
That intro scene with Sarah is f****** brutal. I play that game four times and it still hurts. Since yall don't seem to have played the game, I can say that it is a pretty faithful retelling but also fresh since they are changing certain events. I think that is specifically to surprise fans of the game and so far they have all been hella clean with it. I love the casting, already feeling like a good fit top to bottom.
The showrunners also pay respect to the game voice actors by casting them where they can. So far the only 1:1 crossover has been Merle Dandridge, who was Marlene's voice and she got to play here here as well. I know the Joel and Ellie VA, Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson got parts later on as well. As a turbo nerd it gets me hyped up, just happy to see them do a good withit.
Out of a lot game to film adaptations this was damn near spot on, and this was so refreshing to see. Great review and feedback

I'm actually so glad you all decided to watch this. I got a good feeling about this show's authenticity. I think they're doing a good job so far plus the creator/one of the studio heads for the video game is taking a part in its production.

Hello! Loved your reactions! I'm a new subscriber. The video game is very close to this. They had to change some stuff, but yeah. Sarah does die in the opening by being shot by the military. The infected ("zombies") in this show/game are alive, not undead. The military realized that if they killed living people, they wouldn't turn and thus couldn't get infected. It was a strategy to slow/stop the infection from spreading.

As a huge fan of the first game, this episode impressed me by how accurate some of the sequences were to the game. I wonder if any of you will ever decide to try out the game for yourself just to get a feel for it. I understand if you don't play video games but it's a very well done masterpiece in my opinion. The entire series is a monument to story writing and world building. Not to mention the game play is great. It's no surprise they're able to keep the franchise alive all this time.

It's literally a franchise. They even took us to space like Fast and The Furious. There is fan fiction out there. It's got a cult following, as they say. It is very much indeed a marketable franchise, no?
As a fan of the game I'm very impressed, they nailed it. Also, the young lady that played Sarah looked so much like Thandie Newton that I had to look it up and to my surprise she's her daughter, she was really good (also, those African genes from that one grandparent are hanging on with the strength of a toddler lol)

This was a definitive game of my 20, literally came out when i was 20 and i waited 7 years for part 2. And im truly excited to see how people who didnt play the game, soak up the story, because thats one thing that stands out about the game, its so cinematic
As a game-player, yes, this hit LOTS of the beats in the game and, perhaps more importantly, it has the same feel and look. SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE EPISODE. Just to answer some of your questions as you bring them up in the vid. The boy in the wheelchair was infected and was basically 'put down' like a vet would do with an animal. I think this scene was included to let us know that, even after 20 years, they still don't have a cure. In the game, the same thing happened but is was an adult and a street execution, with people walking past. Spores, one of the major changes from the game. In the game, when an infected reaches the final stage they release spores when they die and these spores float in the air to infect others, making the carrying of gas masks required. For live action filming, gas masks on your actors aren't ideal so spores were replaced with the fungal tendrils coming from the mouth of an infected 'runner' (first stage infected) like Nana. As for Tommy's time in Boston; in the game he originally joined the Fireflies, became disillusioned and then left both the Fireflies and Boston. "That man is stressed." Ohhhh Joel is way beyond stressed lol. Ladies, you have taken the front seat on an emotional rollercoaster, buckle up :D
