The water inlet valve did the trick for me too! Was getting an F20 error after the washer attempted to fill for 1 minute. Had attempted all the standard Whirlpool recommendations with, of course, no effect. So glad I found your video. You're the man, thanks!
Thanks- Fixed mine following your troubleshooting. Figured out the water flow valves were good because the machine would fill up on a cold and on a hot cycle. It just would fill halfway or so and error after a bit of tumbling. Took the back off and discovered a couple pin holes in the hose from the pressure sensor. Replaced the hose with some 1/4" tubing and works like a champ now.
It worked! You deserve a medal. Ordered the flowmeter & inflow valve, after f'ing around for a year trying to justify that I didn't need them. And just in time: the crazy in-laws are here and we have laundry coming out our ears.
excellent video!! i finally fixed my washer by replacing the water inlet valve ... the only thing that i could add is when i was troubleshooting the problem before replacing the water inlet valve, the water was trickling in. So slowly i was getting mold in the detergent opening. once i replaced the inlet valve, the water gushed in. working great now!! Many thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video. I spent days looking for the culprit of the f20 error. First .. my inlet screen to cold water was a mess- somewhat waxy substance that was comjng from the cold water rubber hose. Replaced hoses and cleaned screen. Error still. Opened the pump drain and there was a quarter and some gunk. Error still. (And water began showing up on the floor) finally.. finally.. I checked the pressure switch hose and sure enough- it was rubbed and worn and water had begun to leak and of course- give the error code f20. I probably would have never found this without your video so thanks. (We couldn’t get the hose without a 4 day wait so we went to the auto supply and found a hose that was same size seems to be working great.. I did use hose clamps on the ends for extra measure). But for 78 cents for a hose, (and 3-4 days of searching) .. my washer is doing what it is designed to do.. wash clothes. I am a happy housewife. Thanks for video! Two thumbs up
We've been having this issue for a month or so now, finally going to try to resolve problems with your video! Thanks for sharing!! Now I can try to have on load actually complete instead of restarting it two or three times.
Thanks for the video I also had the f20 code. After unplugging the machine and removing the top. I disconnected the water inlet connectors and put a ohm meter on each plug. I got no reading from the cold water side. I went to Sears online and found the part for $28.00 free shipping.
I’ve had this washer since ‘07 I’ve done a few repairs on this machine and also found that website. Their videos are the best: Short and to the point. I have the F-20 now. Drain pump was clogged I was hoping (but knew it wouldn’t) that’d fix the problem. I just wanna get the proper part first and not spend $$ where its not needed (yet) Because I spent $170 on the front rubber seal when it was tope exhaust rubber hose that was only $50 when it was pissing water everywhere on the rinse cycles.
I have had this problem (f20)with my maytags as well. Mine are the coin ops with led display. What I've learned is the valves get locked up from sediment. In the troubleshoot manuel it explains how to stroke this valve both the hot side and cold side. Valves do not need to be replaced just stroked to flush what ever is locking it up. I would at least try this before replacing. Its worked for me TAG
I got the F20 code, I saw a video on the flow meter after the water inlet valve. I took it off and checked it out. I noticed that it was able to be installed with the flow going in either direction. I put it back in reversed from it's original direction. No more f20 code.
Thanks!!! just repaired mine ..do you think the old one will work if I clean out the two screens on the inlet valve ..they were kinda clogged..thanks again!
Exactly what was wrong with my Whirlpool - F20 error. FYI Whirlpool F21 has always been my drain pump error. So I knew F20 couldn't be that. (Once a penny got through to drain and tore up the pump. Another time it was a bobby pin. First time it was just full of gunk). Also FYI Ordered the parts on Amazon. Got them quickly. Quick repair. $24 (F20) $25 each (F21).
1:42 What does F1 mean? I know it has something to do with the lock cause mine is locked, and I can't get it open. It's not the control lock. And I have had it unplugged for at least 5 minutes.
Note to Washer designers: make the filter accessible with a door in the front with a hinge and a latch. the bottom panel is a bear to get off unless you like lying on the floor in contorted positions. Mine has screws under the washer!!! and you cant see them, What were they thinking???
In my case the big black draining pipe was stuck with some debris, so the water was going away and never filling the washer. Cleaned that and problem solved. No parts replaced.
So I had the F20, did exactly what you did in the same order and even had to wait a day or so for each part. Just changed the valve and now the thing overfills. It just keep filling with water and wont switch to drain. If I hit 'cancel' then 'drain/rinse' it drains all the water. Any thoughts on what to do next?
I've replaced the pressure switch, pressure hose, cleaned the drain pump and drain hose, replaced the inlet valve. What's the plan now throw the washer away? F20 error 30-90 seconds into a cycle.
Please don't just change parts! Before you replace any part on any thing. Prove it's bad! As a 10 year low voltage tech and a 5 year Refrigeration tech. I can say if you can't prove it's bad odds are you are buying the wrong thing. Sir you have done the world a favor by making this video. From a seasoned technician always start from the beginning. What do I know about washing machines little to nothing. However the water inlet solenoid would be not necessarily the beginning but very close. Learning experience I guess. CONSUMER ALERT!! Never buy parts if you cannot prove that they are bad. You are better off hiring a professional if you are going to throw Parts at it.

Thanks for sharing this video! My Whirlpool Duet washer was throwing the F20 code, and I was able to fix the issue thanks to you!

Thank you for the video, and including all the other possibilities. Very clear.
I really appreciate you making this video! Now I can at least start to fix it.
THANK YOU!!!!! The water inlet valve was my fix to F20 code....The best price for the valve was at Amazon....

Very clear and concise. Thank you very much for taking the time to make this.

You're my hero! Thanks SO much! I'm off to order an inlet valve... fingers crossed!

Excellent! Great job and thanks for the details!

How do you stroke the valves?

Solution @ 5:04- "Valve Control Plug", I think.
Everything else he tried will usually work first out in the field, though.
Bravo! Great video!
Thank you!

And Thanks so much for the video. It was awesome. Straight and to the point. I wanted repair info, not a life story.
Excellent video
True American hero

My F20 problem was no water!!
I have a well and the pump had shut off !!!!!
I will wash later when the well refills ;)
Thank you!!!!!
thank you very much
In my case the big black draining pipe was stuck with some debris, so the water was going away and never filling the washer. Cleaned that and problem solved. No parts replaced.
How did you realize it was the inlet valve? What was happening that told you it was faulty? Thanks!
I've replaced my pressure sensor, but haven't replaced that little pressure hose. Still getting trouble. I'll try that water inlet valve next.
thanks!!!

It would be helpful to show how you used that small nut driver and where to find the damn nuts
What did it cost
I've replaced the pressure switch, pressure hose, cleaned the drain pump and drain hose, replaced the inlet valve. What's the plan now throw the washer away? F20 error 30-90 seconds into a cycle.
You forgot to list your part number for the hose valve.
