“What business do you have, INFJs, loving others and caring for others if you will not care or love yourself first?”
Most important line of the entire lecture. Currently my biggest struggle as an INFJ. It’s painful to consider, because when you realize the depth of love an INFJ has inside of them, and then realize that NONE of it goes to them, it’s sad. It’s not something to admire. It’s not selflessness; it’s suicide.
This is the kind of sacrificial altruism that the INTJ Ayn Rand detested. Why give up everything you are to serve other people if it gives you no pleasure? Why sacrifice so much of who you are to people who don’t give a damn, and aren’t walking in the truth? Maybe we could learn a thing or two from our other Ni Hero cousins.
The next question: how do we get there? It’s easier said than done, of course, but it’s right here in the lecture. Learn how to forgive people who hurt you by examining your role in their doing so (outside of abuse, that is), come to an understanding of why they did it, forgive them, then forgive yourself for what you did to drive them away.
This is an almost impossibly tall order. Luckily, INFJs are finishers. Once you have the humility and presence of mind to start on this path, your Ni hero will take you home, like an arrow pointing in the right direction out of your heart. Follow your heart. Walk in truth. Understand and accept people the way they are. Love them the way they are. And then maybe you’ll follow.

C.S. Joseph is intense! Awesome lecture. So articulate. He gets INFJs. I get the part about losing it all. I think about death a lot, as both my parents have passed. I don’t mean that I think about death in a depressing or negative way, rather, as a very practical matter. I worry a lot less about things than I used to. I used to have a lot of anxiety. I really don't consider “problems” to be anything other than situations for me to deal with. Having a so-called “problem” means that I have the opportunity to experience life. What a gift. I’m grateful for that. When I am gone from this world I won’t have any problems. Somehow this realization makes me feel like I can handle anything. Actually, it’s more than a feeling. It is true knowledge in the depths of my soul. That gives me peace.

Consequently, I ended up not qualifying for med school. I also realized later on that people become more loyal to me when I am open about my mistakes, not when I hide them.

Maria Anya Paola Sanchez again, uncanny accuracy. Sometimes I feel this guy is sweet, because he is so earnestly certain, and I believe a lot of it as well, but whenever he says things I know are inaccurate, I realize that everyone does this, maybe, except for INFJS. I think it’s the awareness. It’s like we have a Greek chorus of awareness within us at all times. And the other types just don’t. And it is t a blessing or anything to have it, of everyone else doesn’t. It’s sort of the source of the frustration. So other types will always be coming to conclusions with out the full picture, because of it. Because they won’t be aware, in those ways.

I have suffered from extreme performance anxiety my whole life. There were 2 key points in this lecture that spoke directly to me. First you must stop the self loathing, lose everything until there is nothing more to lose and rebuild from there. The second is the art of practicing. Practice makes perfect - makes an INFJ get off his duff and start acquiring skills that makes him a superpower. It’s happened to me a time or two until I forget ...All I can say about this lecture is it was the good swift kick in the pants I needed. I and every other INFJ needs to watch this video once a week until it’s etched in their brain.

From my observations, a major Se inferior problem is about actually feeling alienated about having a human body and living in a society focused on the material things. I didnt know any other infjs until I started buddhist practice, now I know at least 6 or 7 whereas 3 of them buddhist monks. Doing things like sports, having kids, a house, a car, a garden and so on simply dont give any fulfillment to many us. I dont have performance anxiety, I simply just find a lot of the modern Westerns pursuits to be meaningless (and a bit primitive). I found my sense of purpose when I stopped pretending to conform to these conventional beliefs of what a human is supposed to do and started to practice for transcendence :)

@@elisabethw9189 Our Ni is tied with our Se. Maybe yours is expressed by being really observant of the surroundings? We are to choose how our reality will look like, feel like, smell like etc and I think that's the beauty of it. We're very particular on our surroundings.
Though most infjs have this wild-child side thats kinda hidden and subtle where they kinda mirror Se-doms love for hiphop, sex, extreme sports, tattoos, metal music, theatrics, exercise etc it's how we ground ourselves for being too much inside our heads, our ideals and our feels. This has to be balanced or else we get stuck on Ni-Ti loop and get very unhealthy. Fe is helpful but it still isn't enough as this has the tendency to overwhelm us afterwards and not a means for release. How do you ground yourself? What makes you feel rooted on earth and in the present? It's all unique to every individual but a grasp on Se is an integral part for any infjs.

You are seeking pity, and I personally, understand exactly what this is, because I’ve done it too, and then I saw how awful it looked from the outside. It looks weak. And needy. We hate that. So either you are a very young INFJ, or you aren’t an INFJ. If you are a young INFJ, just forgive yourself for putting it out there, and learn never to express this again. And, recognize the value of how things look from the outside looking in, and what we can learn about ourselves if we look at ourselves from a different perspective.

NeTiFeSi Alexander As an INFJ, yes Fi critic is the worst thing. It takes away my dignity and rights as a person to show up and be part of the world. It’s irrational and dumb but here we are listening to it and devaluing ourselves. It’s like the devil v angel analogy but it’s mostly always the devil. Like having a war with yourself and you’re left like trash not worthy of being. So this video is uplifting because Joseph’s telling the truths we forget to be responsible for. It’s crazy how INFJs care about things yet we don’t care about ourselves to be capable of executing.

This is interesting. Debt to someone with interest, is a personal nightmare. I have zero debt because I live within my means (a novel idea to most Americans). I refuse to be a slave to my finances or the government. This quarantine has been eye opening to how many people are willing to give up their civil liberties just because the government recommended it. The ignorance is absolutely astounding.
Admitting fault is quite difficult, but I heard a quote once, "You can be right at the top of your voice, and be incredibly wrong". I have to constantly ask myself, "What is my part in this? Where are my blind-spots? What is my goal in wanting to be right? Am I being a hypocrite?". It helps to have a goal in mind if conflict arises. If the goal is to love the other person and understand them, then defending myself and trying to prove my point is not going to accomplish the goal.
Also, when do you sleep? haha. Don't overdo it, Chase. Your voice is an instrument to bring knowledge, but even it has its limits. Give it rest, and we will give you grace while you do.

ENFP unconscious is the activist side of their minds, once they're able to trust others and have a precise set of believes they can defend, they're able to use it, ESTP subconscious is their go to side for commanding and getting things done in the cool and relaxed manner they're known for, they can access this part of their mind by practicing and confronting their performance anxiety, lastly, ISTJ superego is the hellish inspector, they will go out of their way to find any evidence that you have betrayed them, or you are showing suspicious behaviour, the subconscious can play role in creating traps and tests in order to know how loyal you really are. This is how normally works, although every side of the mind can be cognitively transitioned in an orderly or chaotically way, changing the way each side of the mind behaves drastically.

ENTJ won't feel the same about that person anymore (honnestly they are the most precious snowflakes, don't hurt them and they'll be amazing to you) but they'll will themselves out of that rut, doing so may be in unhealthy or unethical ways

I feel the urgency to actualize and move past the barriers that hold me back. The hypocrisy note was very interesting to me because I've been examining these areas as of late. I do feel there are times where I get comfortable and activate "pot calling the kettles black mode". However, these moments have become further apart and only really become debilitating when I lose confidence or am depressed about my own feeling/thought/behavior patterns. Tough love has always been present in my life - being able to discern where criticism is coming from (a loving place because they want you to succeed, or an insecure place that's being projected back to me) has come with time, though it certainly hasn't always been easy. Letting go of the victim mentality and taking personal responsibility is the only way forward ... Your videos serve as breadcrumbs to show me I am on the right path forward ... a little rough around the edges with the delivery ... but those are my favorite type - raw, uncensored, authentic, and unyielding. You are definitely a force to be reckoned with, Mr. Joseph, thanks for sharing.

I remember watching one of your first INFJ videos in the morning before going to a job I was struggling with. It was the wake up call I NEEDED. I VALUE the time you take to be direct and that you are not afraid to emphasize your message. I broke down and cried hard while watching the video and I watched it again and again when I felt lost. I quit my shitty job in February 2020. I have quite literally joined a wolf pack by working with dogs and taking care of them. It's tough, but the key really was forgiveness. I HAD to forgive who I was hating to move on. It is one of the hardest things I've ever done in my life, but it gave me freedom to forgive myself for being imperfect and permission to try, try again because I have nothing to loose. I'm currently deciding what to do to make a living after working with dogs. Thank you for helping me hear what I know in my heart. I definitely need to book an appointment with you as so much of what you've discussed, particularly in this vid rings true - a lot of experiences and dealings in my life, it's like you're talking directly to me. Around the 48- 50 mins mark, this was where I was at in 2015, nothing to lose, put myself on the internet, got a whole lot of people mimicking me (including well known celebrities, got loads of proof of it, not BS'ing). U have the most informative videos out of everybody I've found. It appears that I'm an INFJ based on all the personality tests I've taken the last 2yrs and all the videos I've watched. Even the B.S. ones that make it sound like INFJs are some sort of super rare, superheroes. For the people who
just want to feel special and hear how unique and powerful they are. I don't need videos to tell me how rare I am. I've been me for 41yrs and I don't think anybody that knows me could compare me to anybody else they know. It's cool and I take pride in always being myself and staying true to my values but it's kind of a giant a pain in the ass too lol. It's starting to look like I did a pretty damn good job of developing myself as an INFJ. I understand your whole + and - episode strategy to paint a more complete picture. I've sat n listened to you yell at me and berate me for like 3hrs cuz I genuinely want to learn how the psychology behind everything works. I think you seem to be the most knowledgeable and give the most scholarly explanation of things. It's a bit unpleasant getting yelled at for loaný ho
Ljj7uur about what a POS I am, when the majority of the stuff has never applied to me and most of what does/did, was 15-25yrs ago. U should do one, or even a whole series about the more well developed individuals of each type. I'm far from perfect and have regressed in some areas after a devastating break up a few years ago. Which I followed with my most powerful and longest self destruction. I ended up finally understanding that happiness is a choice and so your mood and what kind of day u wanna have. I haven't had a bad day in a year and a half. If I could get back what I lost in the devastation, I would be a force to be reckoned with. I have a 21yr old son I raised from 5 months old til the present. I was barely 20 when i got sole custodyof him. I used to be a Certified Personal Trainer and have helped a bunch of people get the results they wanted over the years. Still have the knowledge, not the Certificate. I've been asked to be a best man at friends weddings 4x, I've been a groomsmen 2x and backed out of contention to be one 2-3 times. I have at least 3 Godsons and have also passed on consideration for that honor a time or 2 as well. I'd very very interested to know more about upper end of development for INFJs. U could probably yell at me for some relevant stuff if u did lol. All the stuff you're chastising people for, I started working on changing when I was 7 lol. Nobody showed me what to be like or how to be it, so I ended up deciding what I didn't want to be when I grew up. I didn't want to be anything like people. So I started trying to become all things people pretend to be but arent.

First thing that has jumped out at me is the Si Demon stuff. Not attempting to make excuses, just to explain from my point of view.
Yeah, the memories of people who abandon us tend to be bad, and it’s because of where our experiences with that person ended up. But we’re aware that the person isn’t all bad. It’s why we let them in close enough to have it hurt that much when they abandon us. It’s tough to remember good things about a person who abandoned you, especially when you deserve to be abandoned (whether it’s actually deserving or just Fi critic).

With this video you have surpassed yourself, believe me. This time I have a lot to say: sorry if it's too long. I was an INFJ (probably 5w4 or 4w5) when I was a child. I was as you comment until I was 16 years old. Then came a great crisis (or depression) that lasted 2 years and caused hypercholesterolemia (I had no action at all before that age). It was in that crisis that I moved to a more ISTJ state (I got excellent grades, played sports, was "hyperresponsible" with myself and with all my surroundings). I went to university: I wanted to choose between physiotherapy, medicine, psychology or biology. I chose physiotherapy, because it seemed to me that it was the only one who had a little of everything (my grades had been so high that I could choose any university degree, so I chose what I wanted to choose). That "adaptation" phase lasted until I was 21-24. Between that age and 35 everything was "success" and "well-being" in everything I did. At the age of 35 I had another crisis, I think this time of "anxiety", because it was a different sensation than the one I had at 16 years old, but different, since it generated insomnia, something I had not felt before. See if my evolution was so strange (and following more or less the same steps that you suggest in this video) that I am now an ENTJ, 8w7 enneagram, that uses "introverted thinking" as the main function. I hardly use "extroverted feeling". The evolution you comment sounds great, but trust me, it doesn't sound the same when an INFJ (5w4 or 4w5) tells you what they think than if it an ENTJ 8w7 does, even though their feelings and intentions remain exactly the same. ;-)
If one person wants to keep being a real INFJ must listen to their guts about "other's feelings" (extroverted feeling)... If you loose that part, you become something different, not an INFJ anymore... the question is that this "something different" you become can be even more helpful than you as an INFJ with "inaction".
This is why a lot of INFJs are mistyped as "other types"... they stop being real "INFJs" because "being an INFJ is weird even for your family. ;-)

There is not much on my mind I'd like to say right now, only a simple thank you. Thank you for yelling out the facts I need to hear.

This reminds me of the time my best friend decided to stop talking to me all of a sudden, not telling me why, and mind this, we were like 13 years old at the time. I took it so personally, i hated her for 9 years straight. Only 9 years later, and after working on myself for 3 years, have i relaized how much wrong i had done. For example, when she stopped talking to me i cried a lot. But i never told her and just accepted her ignoring and had never confronted her about it so I never let go. And when I was able to see how she wasn't the only one who was wrong and that i made mistakes too, only then was i able to get rid of that hatred completely...

Not gonna lie, it took me 5 years to get my driver's license now i'm almost in my mid-20s and i don't have a job yet. I favor my Ni-Ti way too much that Fe-Se hit me like a pile of bricks and it's tough to exercise them but I'm not giving up on my growth because i so want to reach my goals in this ONE life. Such is why i love and appreciate your content C.S Joseph, it brings me back to base and reality. I gotta remind myself these things.

The advice to practice, practice, practice and just get over your fears can be damaging for INFJs. This can lead to burnout and feeling even worse about their perfectionist tendencies.
You have to figure out your reasons, why you want to do something, why you are afraid to do something. You have to figure out your limits take breaks, take time for yourself. Since you are so sensitive to the external world and to other people, you need to take time and get rid of all this noise. Don't just blindly put in 12 hour work days and think that's ok, even ESTPs can't do that for a long time.
Just "practice, practice, practice" may work for a while, but not long term. Being persistent and not giving up even if you know you didn't do as much as you wanted, starting over again even if you think your progress is very slow, forgiving yourself for not working "hard enough", now that would be a good long term strategy.

Obviously to practice, you have to know what it is you want to master.

Wowwww!!! You really did blind fold us and put us against the wall, ready for a bullet!!! Not being " butt hurt" at all though. Just as we need to "wield" the truth as much as we need to "hear" the truth in order to aspire. I have used my Ti to a degree in the past where I made my manager cry. He so respected me after that. I have so much admiration for what you do and the reality of what humanity is that you drive into us. I really do wish that humanity would be more interested in the functions of our minds. I strongly believe, and I bet you've heard it a lot, that it should be a school curriculum. Thanks again for another amazing lecture. your passion at the end made me cry.👍

After I had worked on myself, I was finally able to speak out some necessary truths. Thankfully some of the ppl closest to me is an ESTP and an ENTJ and they were a great support when I did so, helping me not waver and stay consistently behind my words and decisions, sometimes calling me out on some faulty emotional thinking doing so. At times, getting the truth out there may be one of the most difficult thing you'll ever have to do, but it's tried and true - the right ppl will stay by your side no matter what. Also worth mentioning: my physical health noticeably improved as I did so.
I've only watched this vid today, but Chase is pointing out the exact things an INFJ should work on and I can back up his words on what the results will be.
Work on yourself with regular honest self-reflection, surround yourself with friends who help you become the better version of yourself (and not just suck you dry), trust them and get the needed truths out there. An INFJ can get to the point of loving yourself, even to the point of sleeping soundly despite having had to say some very difficult things. Really, things are rarely as bad as we may (doom)think they are XD

Its true about INFJs not letting go, I was in love with an ENFP who never reciprocated and just got over her today after 8 years when I watched your vids on self intimacy. im gonna be 27 in a month or two.
I also have become corrupt and not allowed me to burn as many lies lately, being more understanding due to lack of progress in what I want.
I have been arrogant and boasting so that i could lie my way into avoiding my performance anxiety.
    Good Vid. (:
