Only slight against the portal currently is that SONY had an opportunity to really look at remote play streaming and make it a better experience than it currently is. The portal works great but the fact that we still don't have a fix for micro stutters and that this isn't using a more optimized version of the application is a damn shame. Look at what is being accomplished by third party developers in the remote play space (PSPlay, chiaki etc) and you will see that SONY is delivering a sub par experience with their own in house app, this should not be the case. Again I love the portal but I want more of a commitment from SONY for this device, from what I understand it has been selling well so hopefully we get a little more push on the software development side.
I was apprehensive when I first got it because as a long time remote play user using my iPad and DualSense controller playing via WiFi, it wasn’t the best experience. Have since upgraded my router and it’s been working just nicely. I like that I can game in the comfort of my own bed just before bed, or on a weekend morning when I feel like a lie in. Would be nice to see streaming features in future updates but who knows, Sony’s been a bit slow on the uptake or maybe doubling down with no internet browsing or streaming capabilities.

@@purepsx I’m mostly playing catchup on games I’ve never had time to sit in front of the telly and game the last year or so. Sifu, GoW Ragnorak and HFW Burning Shores are my current games, I switch according to my schedule. PS Portal has really been helping me catch up because I can just spend about 30 to 45 mins just playing either on my lunch break or just waiting for dinner to finish cooking in the oven etc throughout the day, which I enjoy more than sitting for 3 hours in front of the telly. Don’t have that kinda time anymore tbh. 😂

just buy the portal if: a) You have good internet/your area has good internet/willing to use phone data if needed because if you have bad internet you wont be even able to connect properly/play properly. b) If you want to have a proper PS5 remote player and you really love to play your PS5 even if your outdoors. Because if you don't really play outside of your home or room that much or you just rarely want to play your PS5 when your not in the vicinity of your PS5 then you just be better to download the remote play app on your phone or laptop then just bring and connect your controller and play it like that. c) Remembering that you're buying it for the use of remote playing and not buying it because you want a PSP/PSvita
Best purchase I made in awhile I haven't used my TV sense I got it and it's smooth connection. Only thing I worry about is stick drift they should have added the removable analog module like on the playstation edge controller 🎮

No one seems to mention the maybe biggest drawback of this handheld,. It does NOT work on network with NAT type 3,. So in my case, i cant play from wireless hotspot from my phone!
I got a fix for that what network are you on. If your on EE and have an iPhone I got the link I found in ee community that would change the settings for it to work.
it should be! will your PS5 we close to your modem so you can hard wire your PS5 to your internet conection via ethernet cable? Also worth downloading the remote play app and see how it runs on your mobile phone as that should help give an indication if it should work well or not!
Its an amazing product and i recommended it to everyone. My other handheld i own, top of the line aya2s and legion go. Im mostly pc and xbox. Im playing my ps daily for the first time since ps2 lol. Its not enough to pull me away from xbox. Its just a better system. By that i mean, digital codes not the machine. I can get game codes dirt cheap on xbox. My fc 24, ultimate package about £100, got a code from argentina for £43. Get loads of games like that, Bgate 3 about £60 on ps, £13 on xbox. Not a typo lol. Paid £13 for robocop on xbox. Same codes are £60 on ps. Het older game for under a fiver. Gold edition of snooker for £3. Red dead ultimate for £10. Borderlands 3 top edition for £8. Cjs keys. I wish ps was as good as xbox in this way.
Yeah the cheap game codes available on xbox are crazy! Ive just got my hands on another remote play device which I will be comparing the portal too so stay tuned for that as it also can do xbox streaming too! @@purepsx ps2 was great. I've had every console since spectrum lol. Play various top 5 no order. Witcher 3, man eater,GT7, borderlands 2 and evil west. Got 2tb full of games. Some I've said for years I'd play. Got over 3000 xbox digital games. Some you can't even buy anymore. Probably played 10%. I'm addicted to cheap deals. Share my account with 4 kids so the games get played by someone. I've stopped visiting xbox store now lol. Come xmas, might buy a portal for kids to use. My case for it is clear hard plastic. Glass screen protector, I think It could handle a few drops. Kids never play on ps. I've got 2x ps5 too lol. Slim and fat one.

I bought one but having massive lag issues, on BT internet, I have 250+ mbps to my console but portal is so laggy and has massive input delay. Anybody know why? Had a Logitech G cloud for my Xbox and had no lag issues what so ever so find this very frustrating
I had this even with fast internet too, things that fixed it were - had to have wired connection to PS5 and a little more complex, but on my mesh router settings, had to go in to router admin and set seperate SSIDs for the 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels and connect portal to 5ghz only. Then it was fine no lag.

How can this be worth it if you can’t take it on the go? If I can’t play it on the train, it doesn’t help me. This is another paperweight like the psvr2

I really wanted those portal thumb grips, it looks like brand stopped doing them.

The fact I was able to find this device for the price it’s a massive steal!!

just buy the portal if:

Realised the BR Smart Hub 2 doesn't have this capability as it's designed for use with Complete Wi-Fi, annoying asf

How’s input lag on this? Be honest.
Probably somewhere between 100-150ms with a good connection. Not good for games requiring fast reaction. Good for other games.
