- Throughout most of history, there's been one thing that every single person has strived for: Bragging rights. Within our beloved game, Team Fortress 2, it's certainly no different. Join me as we take a look at TF2's achievement system and answer the question of whether or not it's more important than people let on.

2:01 I thought you were exaggerating, but I did the math.
You need the perfect 1/3 random outcome for two players 3 times in a row. That means (1/3)^6 = ~.137%. According to the TF2 Wiki, the chances of unboxing an Unusual are around .66%.
You REALLY are more likely to get an Unusual. Almost 5x as likely, in fact.

Eh, that's not quite accurate. The taunt intentionally was designed so two players can never tie as a result of the taunt. So, it's 1/3 for one player, and 1/2 for the other player. (1/2^3)*(1/3^3) = ~.463%. Still less likely than an Unusual, but not as less likely.
but if you taunt 10 times, you don't lose anything. if you open 10 crates trying to get an unusual, you lose $20 - $25. so it's still vastly easier to get the achievement.

You know, this video actually did a good of reminding me what it was like to play TF2 as a beginner. I remember when I was a mere foolish child (a whoppin 8 years old) (I just now realized I've played TF2 for a decade wtf) who got excited every time I got a weapon or hat drop. I remember the first time I got the cloak and dagger I would only ever use that as spy, and I thought the Soda Popper was the greatest weapon in existence. Those were truly the good old days, thanks for the reminder!

there's also the frontline field recorder as an achievement item where you have to do the " Local Cinema Star" achievement
Unfortunately theres no way to obtain it besides visting an achievement server

Back in 2018, I joined a server that reset my achievements and class hours in TF2. I was very very upset by that. I ended up using SAM to reset the achievements I missed, but I really do miss the feeling of getting achievements. It's been a long time since I've got a TF2 one.

i have about 30 hours on tf2 (akin to nothing) and ive recently picked it up again after a year or so. that part about being excited for weapons is absolutely me rn!! i cannot wait to get normal weapons that people seriously use instead of random shit i picked up. also, i had no clue achievement weapons existed oh my god
I have 495/520 achievements. Some are out of my reach, and some seem to be bugged, since no matter how many times I fulfill the criteria, they never get ticked.
Some archievements are broken in casual, but in community servers works
all the yt achievements are broken bcs of api stuff iirc

I actually got that Rock Paper Scissors achievement when I was newer to the game and had no clue just how rare it was.

i always found tf2 achievements something you can learn from. trying out new thing to get rewarded later on with weapons cosmetics or a taunt.

been playing tf2 for over 10 years and over 300 hours and occasionally i still get achievments when i dust off a class i barely touch. also i finally got into mvm and have been just raking in achievments lately

always loved tf2 achievements, the way you put it is perfect, rather than something you try to 100% it's more of a record of what you've done and i like that
unfortunately for me i recently i accidentally reset all of my achievements because i was trying to get rid of ones my brother cheated, in which sucks because i don't really know when i first got a lot of them, but now i can make new memories and feel the accomplishment of getting them again
also based on what steam says the pass time achievement is actually the rarest one LOL

I was in a dustbowl server a few days ago and helped a guy get the scissors achievement, he was really lucky and got all three in a row immediately, no grinding needed
I've only ever played Rock-Paper-Scissors in secession once while waiting for some bots to get kicked against an enemy player (I don't have the taunt)
And that one time I won 3-in-a-row with scissors. I just recently watched some videos on the toughest achievements in the game the week prior so I knew to go for the third win after he respawned thankfully and knabbed it.
I don't plan on grinding out the huge ones but I do want to try and check 1-2 off my list every year so when you play tf2 for ~an hour a day for so many years just getting a new one can make your month. Very memorable. Also a good way to show what classes & weapons you haven't tried out yet like when I played Classic-Sniper for an evening and got most of the related achievements.
Unfortunetly, the RUclips view achievements are unobtainable. This is where I believe SAM are understandable to come into play, for achievements that are completely bugged, broken, or are 100% never going to be achievable just because you missed out at one point in time.
I know this was 6 months ago but the achievements are still technically obtainable without SAM, you can change game files to 100,000 views and it will count!

I don't even remember the last time I got an achievement. I remember I used to just randomly get them back in the day and wondering what the heck I did.
i really like the metal massacre achievement, just a counter of your progress.

It's a fun way to track silly situations (FWTSS). Very important in a game
i have 331 and mostly (like 80% or more) only played mvm XD is that good? (and i have 1300 hours in the game)

I used the Achievement Manager to unlock all of TF2’s achievements many many years ago as a noob, because I wanted free hats. I regret it a lot to this day, and unfortunately there’s no way to use the same Achievement Manager to reverse what I did.
You can reset your achievements in the main menu! You keep all of your items and can't recieve new ones, sadly. But you can still get the dopamine high of EARNING them

As someone who doesn't currently own TF2 or the equipment required to play (computer, somewhere to put the computer, Steam, etc.), HOW DID YOU GET ALL THOSE!? Wait- *checks notes* when did you get Prime Cuts?
@Colossatron165 The vast majority of the time was playing the game, some include extra backpack space, a few involved in asking friends, private servers, and watching video tutorials to get them like the replay achievements.
I just try to get as much done in between breaks because college.

In my early tf2 days as a yee lad, i made the choice to go on a community server where just by typing in a command it gave me all the current achievements. As a more experienced player and just being older now I regret this, I wish i could of gotten those achievements myself as now I find achievement hunting and 100% games one of my favorite things to do.
You can reset your TF2 achievements in the achievement tab in the main menu!

Payday 2 has over 1200 achievements and still going up with each new DLC. TF2 really is nothing.
except its mega bloated by just completing every heist on every difficulty and one down, its not really that impressive

I don't know what server you started on, but my first round of tf2 was not like that. In my very first round, there was a cheater/bot sniper on the enemy team. I was playing heavy and ended up killing the cheater/bot before he got kicked. Felt really good, especially since the sniper kept spawn killing us. Good times
That's so sad and I genuinely feel bad for any newer players, I thankfully started playing at a time when a cheating bot was a foreign concept to most people, glad you stuck around the game though!
@@_indii not many things give a dopamine hit as much as beating a bot within your first 15-20 minutes of booting up the game. And then I learned about mvm. The dopamine gold mine 😂

You literally have a %0,81 (that is if i did the math right) chance of getting the ''Running With Scissors'' achievement. To make it more simple you have a %1 chance to unbox an unusual in the older crate series. Getting an unusual is easier than getting the stupid achievement. Even considering that the chance of unboxing an unusual gets lower and lower as the crate series numbers go up, the achievement is still harder to get.
