That was unbelievably brave and open, and with such nonchalance, like its just part of life to him, that's true honesty, we don't see much of that in stars
A lot of actors we know today did the same thing. Some moved to NY or LA young broke, and did “sexual favors “ toget paid and survive and later run across famous producers and directors through this , to be put in movies and TV shows.
What can I say......I'm 57 years old and these guys were my heroes growing up....especially Mr. Soul. I bought my first single 'Don't Give Up On Us' back in 1976 and 'Silver Lady' in 1977. Both worldwide hits! In the late 90's I got to see him at a very small concert in Northampton. It was a great night and after David was signing autographs. I remember I said I was a big fan and he said ''well introduce yourself'' which I did and then I showed him my records that I'd bought back in the day. He was taken back that I'd kept them so long and that they were the first two records that I'd ever bought. He was so kind and signed them both. May you Rest In Peace David Soul you still are one of my heroes. God bless you.

I have huge respect and admiration for DS and his ability to face the hard times and low points in his life and not sweep them under the rug. He owns everything that has happened on his journey. He appears grounded, human and genuine in his interviews. I'm a lifelong fan of the Starskey and Hutch series and will love those guys forever.

Starsky was my favourite when I watched the show as a kid, but after watching it all again recently, and seeing what a brilliant actor David was, Hutch is now my favourite.
And I didn't know about him selling himself to make money. That takes a lot of guts for someone to admit, especially a famous person.

Best time of my life was growing up in the 70’s.. one of the things that made it so great was watching S&H and then acting out the scenes the day after in the schoolyard with my friends. I even tried to convince my uncle to paint his 1975 Torino red and put a white stripe on it, but it was a 4 door. Both PMG and DS are talented accomplished actors, and both should be very proud of everything they have done, regardless of hardships. T.V LEGENDS!!!
In the schoolyard, if you wore sneakers and jeans or tracksuit, you had to play Starsky, and if you wore nice pants and shoes that day you had to play Hutch!!! Since it was a Catholic school, most of us had to play Hutch unless you wore gym clothes that day! Ha ha
Omg the 70s was such a good time! I was in elementary school then, and LOVED watching Starsky and Hutch. I had a huge crush on David. So heartbreaking that he's no longer with us.💔🙏

My cousin Francis has a David Soul album , that she had him sign when she met him back in 1976 or 77 ( not sure exactly) . We were never allowed to touch it……. But I got her back a few years later, she wasn’t allowed to touch my poster signed by the Incredible Hulk Lou Ferrigno😂😂

"Devastating News" hearing about the death of David Soul! He was one of my childhood heroes! I was lucky enough to meet him back in 2002, and he very kindly signed my autograph book, which is something i will "never forget"!! RIP David!!

Starsky and hutch was one of my favorite TV shows growing up.
I had no idea David Soul had such a seedy past at the start of his career, but credit to him for being so honest.

Since 1975 I have been a HUGE fan of Starsky & Hutch I own all 4 seasons on DVD. I am HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED to just find out that they didn't earn ANY money from these.

What an awesome documentary about two of the coolest cats ever ...
One of my favorite horror movies is Salem's Lot .David gave a great performance. Rest In Peace.
Not mentioned here was one fact about his health and the end of the show. You know that iconic scene in the opening credits where Hutch leaps onto the roof of the car, landing on his butt ? Well that stunt screwed up his back permanently. throughout the series he was in great pain, until in the last season the writers stopped having him in fistfights, running hard, etc. he was not longer much of an action hero cop anymore due to his medical issues. This greatly contributed to him quitting the show, plus I'm sure the pain increased his alcohol abuse.
....and believe me everyone in our schoolyard tried doing every stunt we saw that show!! Ha ha! Luckily, 4th graders bodies are made of rubber!
I read this a few years ago also. I think he had chronic back pain for the rest of his life and it's forever chronicled in every Starsky & Hutch episode.
I agree! That stunt should have NEVER been done. It looks bad, very bad every time l see it l cringe it just looks so unprofessional and its just stupid, period. It would have made more sense for him to slide across the roof like a baseball player or to just jump down from the loading dock to the hood of the car then again to the alley. I've always hated that clip and am blown away that they kept it or even used it in the opening..😢
RIP David Soul - this show was a huge part of my memories of the 70s, I loved it. I have all the shows on DVD, and even still have my original David Soul albums from when I was 13 and 14 years old! They're the only things I still have from those days. I've got the 1997 CD Leave a Light on as well. You brought joy to many - you'll be missed.

This was FAR more interesting than I would ever have expected it to be. Not your 'dime a dozen' documentary, but one containing real substance.
I was a teenager when Starsky and Hutch show’s were made. I loved them then and still love them now. I loved the characters that Paul & David played on this show, but also I love them for who they are. I always wanted a car like Starsky’s and I still do. 😊 I remember watching David play on the tv show Here Come The Brides. I loved that show as well. Saw him on a few movies where his character got killed and that was sad. I have also watched Paul on a few movies and his son in real life played in one of them with him. I would love to get to meet Paul & David one day. I don’t care how old they get or how they look, I want to meet them and talk to them. I still had socks of Starsky & Hutch until I lost them in a house fire. I followed the story and journey of Paul and his wife Elizabeth on the aids crisis. It was so heartbreaking. May God be with David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser.

It's amazing for a show that lasted a relatively short time to still have cultural impact today and that's all down to David and Paul.
Never out of fashion, these guys are genuine actors, warm souls, live fully, maybe could have had more healing cessions with parents!
For some unknown reason I found myself reminiscing of old times...I then listened to Silver Lady...I knew most lyrics originally when I was 10...and absolutely was thrilled when my parents allowed me to watch Starsky & Hutch. Although starsky was my favourite I loved Hutch...fantastic singer with a couple of all time classics under his belt. This documentary was so sad at times and it opened my eyes totally. I would love to meet him and talk to him...despite his short comings with his 2nd wife he remains a likeable and much loved character even by his wives which in itself is an admirable thing.

I RAN home from school everyday to watch Starsky and Hutch. I had the "Starsky Shoulder Holster" with the 1911 .45....lol....(STILL my favourite gun today!) Best Cop show of ALL time.

Ultimately we all live and survive and do the best we can at any moment, no matter how much we wish we could have changed our circumstances or reactions. Sometimes people "don't" do the best they can and it's obvious David didn't "A LOT"
I loved the show and still believe it was one of the best shows ever on television but it's obvious that the ego got to him, which is sad, especially when he literally struggled to get to having so much and then forgot his roots over his own ego and the vices and then he pissed it away. Which I didn't know about these guys personal lives but it's obvious"why" David struggles now. We are all mostly responsible for our own lives.
So so sad because as I said I loved that show.
Ive watched many interviews with david ..he always said the best thing that came out of s&h was his friendship with paul ...to this day are still very close friends ....great video and a great watch ...

I met David when I worked at the Albany Hotel in Birmingham. Really lovely man, when he didn't have to be.
Was a massive fan of the show when I was a kid in the 70s, so glad I came across this to watch, what a moving doc. It was. Was sad when I found out David had died as he was part of my childhood, so glad I got to meet the 3 of them in 2018 at mcm comic con at the excel, I got things signed and a photo with the 3 of them and with the car as well. Great memories of that day. RIP David , thanks for being part of my life😢

I didn't always watch Starsky and Hutch, but everytime I hear David's records Silver Lady or Don't Give Up n Us, immediately takes me back to the glorious 1970s.
He had his troubles but he was genuine .....and displayed a remarkable honesty..RIP Hutch.

As a student working a dead end boring as shit job in the late 90's Starsky and Hutch used to be on double epsidoes late at night for a few months, it was 20 years since its finale but it maintained its charm and excitement.
I just heard of David's passing I hope he was at peace and felt some pride in his show which entertained millions of people.
Going back 40 some years ago to 1983 my old neighbor and now long time friend & I set out to go buy this smashed up Ford Torino another neighbor had. Over the course of maybe 4 years and while I became active duty military I would return home on leave certain times and helped him build a Starsky & Hutch Torino car. Life got busy and he too moved on although the car remained behind in pristine shape after we converted it that car stayed entombed in his parents garage until they both passed away just a few years ago my neighbor returned moved back into his old child hood home. We just took the car out over the Christmas holiday cleaned it got it running again which included a new fuel tank and fuel pump is why I was there.. Alan didn't want to end up pinned under a near full fuel tank at our ages things don't get easier... We talked about how people used to stop and want to look at the car whenever we went cruising with it back then... We plan on taking the car out this summer to go for a ride.... Where we ain't decided that yet... We both found our old brand of cigarette butts in the ash trays and fodder from over 40 years ago...
RIP David..I’m so glad I came across this documentary… After all this time I’m just finding out they both walked away from the show..
I absolutely loved starsky and Hutch as a kid . I have so much respect for David , bearing his ( no pun intended ) soul . He's lived a hell of a life .And the recollections of so called modern artists , reflects that . The alleged genius of Warhol , is overshadowed by the abuse of children I also feel desperately sorry for Paul Michael Glazier. How strong do you have to be , to survive such tragedy. He has my utmost respect .. He buried his young daughter and wife ,who he loved dearly .

I've faced some very dark times myself, as many have. For me it was the loss of my son who was murdered by my 2nd husband for money, but only because his attempt to have me killed failed, he went after an easier target. Next was my 3rd husband, whom I met & married 8 years later, being alone between the 2. Then a mere 10 years later, after all the Drs lied, saying he had Valley Fever, he died of lung cancer. That was in Oct. 2015. I never go out with my mourning veil. So in a way I understand, as I have been lost for many years. I hope David Soul finds himself. To that I will add only that Wine, women & song will not help. It must come from within. God bless you, David. ⚘

He's the first celebrity that I never felt judgemental towards i genuinely felt sorry for him because he was a very talented man and he just got caught up like a lot of good people do. I truly hope he's at peace now because he's been through enough and I'm amazed he even made it to 80 although I will miss him I'm glad we had him here that long 😢
So sad he's no longer with us. He will always remain Hutch for me and many others; even when I watch Magnum Force years after watching Starsky and Hutch, my first thought was still "That's Hutch!"
He screwed up just like all of us do - and given all the temptations in his life - so so understandable. He hurt no one but himself and then owned it. Much love and respect to you David. May the earth rest lightly on your bones.

I was a huge David Soul fan in the 70s and I admire him for his courage in stating to the world how he has survived and how he has suffered, but the self pity about the money after his irresponsible behavior is so cringe.

I'm italian and I can tell you S&H were a big thing here in the late seventies. The show was broadcasted on the first channel of state television and millions saw it. Soul and Glaser were hosted in tv shows for the subsequent thirty years. Ciao.😊

The acting David Soul does in that episode is amazing. I think David & Paul are incredible actors.
He and Paul both guest starred on episodes of The Streets of San Francisco before S&H as well. Both are excellent

Childhood memories of watching and enjoying that old detective show (purchased it on DVD 📀)because it had both comedy and tragedy and shows all sides of the story…. David well … You must go to the other side and the time has passed so it seems so gratefully that I will not quit watching ChEERS to great laughter and memories of your honest and great work!

I miss this man so much. I distinctly recall watching Starsky & Hutch on TV and taping it on cassette, as in 1975, we didn't have VHS yet. Because l loved the show and watched it every week without fail.
I guess it was a good thing my Mom also liked the show. I remember hearing on the radio in my car after just getting off of work that David Soul had died! I cried out "No"!!!!😢

I was a huge fan of Starsky and Hutch in the 70s. I was 10. David was my first crush, even before Leif Garrett and Andy Gibb. I even got into acting because of the Kristy McNichol episode. My dream was to be on Starsky and Hutch after seeing her on it. Lol. This was a very cool documentary!

I met David a few times when I worked as a park keeper in Highgate North London. He came in with his bouncy spaniel to let him run. We chatted a bit, he seemed like he was doing OK, I really liked him, but was a bit in awe. I would love to see the TV and films he produced, socially conscious and ahead of their time probably.

A very nice performance. Alexander Courage's main theme for Star Trek at the beginning of this video, is John Williams arrangement he did with the Boston Pops orchestra.
So talented and " world "wise in so many ways....... You'd think...Why so self-destructive?...Timing has a lot to do with everything in life but only a strong character can survive all this and he is 80 years old right now. So we have alot to learn from people like David Soul.

RIP David. Som,eone spoke that he would often see him in the local pub in London. They said he was a really friendly down to earth chapo, loved living in England.
DS is lucky that his ex wives have been so generous and forgiving. Not saying that he is a bad person, but seemed to have a hard time dealing with celebrity and lived a life of many excesses. Well, like in the myth of Icarus, who flew too high and went crashing down, it seems that this is the inevitable outcome of living a life of excess. Glad to hear that he is living a more stable and serene life in England with his current wife of many years. As for PMG's comment about his friendship with DS (or Starsky's friendship with Hutch) not being "the second coming of Christ" , well ok, but it obviously captured the imagination and the hearts of many people, which is special in and of itself.

All I know is that both of them are amazing men & I enjoy watching my DVD'S of Starsky & Hutch all the time. Their private life should remain private. Their friendship is something to admire. We have all made mistakes in our lives so David is human just like the rest of us.

I've only just found out about David's passing. What a bloody shame. RIP David, you were our hero in the 70s.
The day David Soul died recently I watched an episode of Starsky and Hutch. It seemed a fitting tribute.

I think the closest thing we had in the uk to starsky and hutch were the " professionals " starring martin shaw and Lewis collins their characters bodie and doyle who had the same swagger as starsky and hutch like their American counterparts they were pulling in huge ratings in uk like david soul, lewis collins had the same star quality as david plus rugged good looks and he was one of the most famous faces in the country he was even considered as a possible james bond very good series indeed durind late 70,s early 80,s RIP david and lewis

I had no idea he struggled so much in life. It makes me respect him even more. In later years he seemed very happy with his 5th wife. That’s a good way to end his life…happy.
Starsky and Hutch was my favourite programme so much when it ended I got all the episode's of the series now I never miss my favourite two.
Another part of my childhood gone. I hope he was at peace.
Always been a fan when I was growing up, at 61 I still am, I remember buying Don't give up on us when ti came out in '76 then every single thereafter, also the albums, the 1st 2 were David Siul and Playing To An Audience Of one, I still have the collection and in school me and my best friend Colin Jerome were likened to Starsky and Hutch and we played up to it, we were inseparable, ah, fond memories, RIP David, you gave us such enjoyable times 😎
God Bless David, I had the most enormous crush on him back in the day and I still see why.🙏❤
