A veteran cop who turned down a promotion after the fatal shooting of his partner, Sergeant T.J. Hooker (William Shatner) now splits his time between a street beat and training young recruits. Working under the ambitious and politically-minded Captain Dennis Sheridan, Hooker and new partner Vince Romano, a headstrong rookie with a lot to learn, investigate assaults on women by a Bible-toting assailant and pursue a motorcycle gang that has turned to the arms trade. After an investigation into the death of a teenage girl exposes a drug ring at a local high school and endangers his own daughter's life, Hooker tracks down a serial killer looking to take revenge on a victim who eluded him eight years ago. And whether in the academy classroom or on the streets, Hooker aims to expose his young recruits to the pressures and realities of police work.

Who could've imagined in 82 that in 21 we will be watching the pilot on a handheld mobile phone !!!
Shashi Jain
When I was in junior high and General Hospital was at the top of it's game I said to a girl on the bus, "I need a watch that is a tv" and she said, "oh, that will never happen", well here we are.
My grand father worked for the CIA and he told me to hang in there, it would be available one day.
I always wanted to watch tv.from a girls lower back so when I'm getting busy I can watch Group B Rally highlights
Well u do realize back in "1965-66" when star trek was on air, the communicator was a precursor to the original flip phone..lol.
Back in 1978, when hart to hart started on tv, there was no cell phones and bag phones costed a fortune.. i was in the 6th grade in 77-78, a feiend and i started this friendly rivellery in who could no only draw the best motorcycle but to come up with things ud like to have in or on it... I never heard of a cell phone, or a tv in or on It, which mine had. Its like they copied my thoughts in creating that stuff.. so yeah, the past always wants its just dues...lol

Well, probably not Kirk but I bet Scotty knew.
It was great seeing this again. Can’t believe it’s been almost 40 years since it first aired. Thank you!
Love the the older TV shows like this, plus any show with William Shatner is gold.
Yes absolutely. Especially Rescue 911.
William Shatner makes it.
What did L.C.P.D. stand for?
@@davidgriffin14 Los Angeles County Police Department. (not city)
Las Cruces Police Department. Just kidding it’s pretty obvious it’s set in Southern California.
My jr high years watching TJ Hooker and Airwolf on a Saturday night, miss those days more than anything.
Loved Airwolf, the opening tune was great, the pilot was a great show as well.
Yeah. I'm 53 too! This, Simon and Simon, Riptide, WizKids, and a few years earlier, Dukes of Hazzard. It was the ultra modern 80s!
Yep.
I used to watch this too on a Monday night at my grans in the 80's. My favourite was Knight Rider though.
William Shatner was in terrific shape for this show, and the early “Star Trek” films. And I’m glad that he is still around to entertain us.
was is right
@Newsbender II He had to lose weight or face the wraith of ABC!

Great shape! Sturdy girdle! Terrific toupee
As a 22 year old who loves vintage cars, this was great to watch.
Hope you're not a twenty-two-year-old Donald Trump supporter

I weep when see the old cars just easily destroyed in stunts. How much those cars are worth now.
Wasn’t alive when this show was around, but I’ve been getting into a lot of 80’s stuff and I’m really enjoying this.

For someone who was alive and fast growing up at that time, it is nice to hear that someone younger is enjoying the programmes from that era. Conversely, I enjoy new programmes from this era too. One thing that age (life experience really, not age) teaches you is that people don't change, only their habits and the gadgets they use. Never let age get in your way and it seems, you already aren't.
Glad to hear you enjoy the old cop shows young whipersnapper.
What you do when it had other nice shows at the same time back then. You will miss something.
The 80s may have just been the pinnacle of civilization. It was an amazing time.
Can't believe it; TJ Hooker got me in my feels.
I was very young when this first aired; 10 years old.
Saw the thumbnail and thought I'd give it a watch.
I expected it to be a bit tacky.
But I found myself getting reeled in, and a bit emotional sometimes.
When I was a child it was just great entertainment to a kid who was green behind the ears.
Now, the stories within have meaning; especially seeing the characters have their inner conflicts.
So glad I decided to watch!
I was 9 when this aired in 82. I agree with you 💯.
I enjoyed seeing this...Thank you
I was a cop for 23 years in LA. I never understood how academy instructors were out solving cases 😂😂😂😂😂
You must have learnt so much about policing by watching this show
It was an on the job training programme
BANANA🍌BANANA🍌, TWIST AND SQUEEZE !
Because Hollywood 🤣
Oh my, how good was that! I used to watch it every week but I don't think I really appreciated it enough. Good old Bill Shatner. I might have to go back and watch Romano's dancing again though LOL.
One of my favorite 80’s action shows along with A team Hunter and Fall guy
T.J. Hooker from the Producers of Charlie's Angels and Starsky & Hutch
T.J. Hooker & HUNTER are my 2 favorite Supercops from the 80's
Heather Locklear & Stepfanie Kramer are the 2 Sexiest Cops on TV and badasses, too
Advisory Warning: This episode contains a dance scene that viewers might find distressing, embarrassing and laughable.
Yo I didnt know what to expect then
HOLY DISCO FML
20:53
They brought in Dance Fever's Deney Terrio to make that dance sequence as super-gay as possible. Is there any wonder why 65% of STOP signs, nation wide, were defaced with the word, "DISCO" under the word STOP?
Isn't Zmed a dancer anyway?
You're right about the awful dancing. It's though they have ants in their pants
@@simonwarner1397: Old-fashioned dancing. 😁😁😁
A great great series !!!! Never will forget it !!!! Debbie Shelton was beyond stunning !!!! Especially in " Body double " 🔥
Appeared in Dallas after this!
Even when appeared in an episode of get a life, the episode:married 2000,she still looked great at 41.
Great television series of the wonderful '80's.
I love it!
Thanks so much for posting!!!!! If possible, please post the original SWAT 1975 pilot.
ive missed this , in 82 i was 20 wow and if you look at the way they filmed stuff in 70s and 80s it a whole nother world , it takes me back to a simpler time and place. plus didnt hurt to have william Shatner my eye candy lol even today at 90 hes still a handsome man. beam me up scotty!!!!!💜💙❤💛💚
I mostly skipped the show when it aired . nice to revisit . I see they have the series on Crackle . Shatner just turned 90 and I just saw him diving on shark week . Classic
Wow gotta say this show would never make it today it’s so politically incorrect and when Hooker talks he’s taking on the democratic system of law. Hell they’d probably cast Hooker as a transgender gay cop who identifies as a tree
i just love watching the old show
Thanks for the upload of this and Starsky and Hutch! Could you get the pilots of SWAT, The A Team and The Equalizer?
The most underrated TV show of the 80s!
@Leo Peridot Yet here you are LOL. Troll, much?
Those dance moves!!! 🕺🏻💃🏼
I can't stop laughing. 😂😂😂
Those dance move were hate crime I think disco died that night
Shatner draws you in. Wow 1982 Wrath of Khan and the start of TJ good times.
This reminds me of a much better time here in America...
The showed up in my feed and couldn’t help reliving the past ! I remember watching this as a kid
I remember when this premiered. It looked to be a really good show; and it was!!!
Yes it was!👍
TJ still rocks. Great to see this show after decades and relive those days.
murderer
So glad TJ finally got to go to space, he said he now realize space is really a killer on the loose! "We...are...living..with..our..murderer!"
Why do people marry Police Officers, Fire Fighters and Soldiers then spend all the time complaining they aren't there or always put the job first or turn down promotion in order to remain where they can do the most good?
Its not like they didn't know what they did when they met them so complaining about it after they are married is just pointless yet it continues to happen.
Why should they request a transfer to a less dangerous posting just because they are married?
Because they grow up with tj hooker and others movies
Why indeed. I've been asking the same question for a long time.
There is a reason 3 successful TV series all had Bill as the lead, and this is Bill at the top of his game.
He really showed his ability to do comedy on 3rd Rock From The Sun.
His toupee was the best actor in the series
News Flash:
William Shatner is not the only Actor to use cosmetic hair pieces.
He's not wearing a toupee. It's his all natural hair
That's his real hair punk!

Darn good writing, acting, and directing. Beats anything on tv in 2023.
DAMN STRAIGHT it does..I don't waste my time on the new crap...'pantywaist politics'...
@@richardhamblen5526 I discarded my tv almost a decade ago.
I had forgotten just how good this first episode was.
If only we had a T J Hooker in every police force in the world, then the world today would be so better. Right on T J ......✊
No it would be much worse because he violates many laws and procedures.
What happened on the streets in Newark New Jersey during the 70s and 80s would not fly these days.
Seasoned cops are no longer with us. The courts were bad enough then and, repulsive now! New York State sealed criminal records! The judges and investigators can claim they didn’t know what kind of record a person had. They released them on the streets to commit more mayhem!
What do rookies learn these days?
In that case, the judge might be in vacation. In fact he’s a serial killer in every episode.
Classic 80s show
Used to be on ITV Wednesday 8pm here in England 🇬🇧
Not in my region, we never got to see it till now.
I saw It for the first time when it was on Sky in the late 80's and early 90's..loved it.
I thought it was show by all ITV companies on Saturday nights about 8pm
13:02 Dude killed two people for $17. Now I know $17 would buy you a meal for a family of 4 at McD's in those days but still, man, this dude puts very little value on human life.
In real life, especially in 2022. Criminals place very little if any value on human life.

One of my favourites cops TV series, I was 10 yo when this came out, amazing how time flies!
How young and thin Shatner was back then. And that was after all those Star Trek shows. What a TV legend Shatner is/was.
Right? Loved this show back in the day
Loved it then, Love it now.
Hooker: You already got the divorce, what more do you want?
Ex-wife: Blood!
Hooker: Well, I'm fresh out; try the Red Cross.
Damn, that was savage!
Women like her are the reason misogyny still exists
Loved TJ Hooker I was 11 and had a crush on Heather locklear so glad I can watch it again thank you whoever uploaded these
The beginning of one of the coolest police dramas ever William Shatner rocks!
Great resolution, loving the quality!
The creators realized pretty quickly that the show had to get out of the police academy and into the "real world."
I remember watching this when it came out! I never imagined I would see this here on youtube! What a treasure!
In the TV movie/pilot, “The Protectors,” Sergeant T.J. Hooker (William Shatner), back in uniform, trains a group of police academy recruits. During most of the series, Hooker is partnered with Vince Romano (Adrian Zmed), a brash, but sometimes hot-headed young rookie.
Hooke: field training officer. Adrian zamed..italian in the show, arabian real life, i served with a arabian-american from los angeles named zamed in the usaf. Could they be related. Hmmm?
@@davidscott3820 i think Zmed is 100 percent romanian. Romanians look Italian
@@anthonylogiudice9215 I heard Romania was settled by...former Roman soldiers. I think that's cool.
@@davidscott3820 I read about a Roman general and his army settling down and marrying into the native population in that region. I also met a Romanian who sternly corrected me when I said that Romanians were slavic. He said Romania is surrounded by slavic countries, but they are not slavs. He said they were closely related to Italians. Remember, Romanian language derives from Latin. Despite what one may read in Wikipedia, they are not slavic but related to Italians and cluster with Southern Europe.
36:36 - That there, ladies and gentlemen, is a flashback.
That haunted look in those big brown eyes of Vince's is so real and touching.
Those new recruits doing that grueling circuit training were probably thinking "Beam me up Scotty " ha ha ha
The women they put in these TV shows back then we're so pretty.

I love all old TV shows very cool 😎
Nice to see the CTV logo with the Casio keyboard music at the end. Much better than the Sony TV logo
Sure is,this must be from the original abc broadcast.
@@josephcalderon906 That's how it was in that Mill Creek Entertainment first-and-second-season release-- the original Sony release had the SPT logo on this pilot and the rest of the first and second seasons, and that's how it is in the Shout! all-in-one (complete series).
Are you referring to the Sunburst/Abstract Torch? That's what that's called.
Romano makes Travolta look like an amateur on the dance floor!
Loool, that dancing , Romano, what were you thinking!!!!😂
Captain's log supplemental... It seems that new recruits are joining the police academy to which I'm attached as the sergeant. How the hell did I become the sarge from a Captain?
TJ Hooker !!! What a cool show!
It was. Aaron Spelling produced lots of great shows especially the police shows. My favorite was S.W.A.T.
Imagine in 2023 that the officers actually started their job as soon as they got to the scene without waiting for multiple officers show up
TJ Hooker is not the same without the late Richard Herd.

TJ Hooker, Captain Kirk's favourite Holodeck program. One episode even starred Leonard Nimoy as one of his friends and former partners.

Thus is a perfect role for Shatner
I always found it weird to see captain Kirk as a cop. LOL
Why did i keep hearing the Police Academy Theme in my head during this?
I suspect that Vince Romano...the character, _not_ the actor...was bisexual, but in the homophobic 1980s, kept it well-hidden.
What is homophobia?
@@RicardoAGuitar:
Prejudice and/or discrimation against gays, lesbians and bisexuals.
In the 1980s, many workplaces, including police departments fired innocent employees for not being fully heterosexual.

shatner is the most unintentionally hilarious character who ever lived.
If this is credited/copyrighted simply to Spelling-Goldberg Productions (the series in and of itself being Spelling-Goldberg/CPT), then why is CPT's Sunburst/Abstract Torch logo on many modern prints of that 1982 pilot?
