- Traditionally, men and women play very different roles when it comes to parental responsibilities. However, in this modern era, where gender roles are no longer fixed, we took to the streets to find out if Singaporeans are open to the idea of Stay-at-Home Dads.
Word On The Street is a series on TSLTV where our host, Fauzi, goes around asking Singaporeans about anything and everything that's happening in Singapore!
This video was shot exclusively with SONY's mirrorless range of cameras and lenses. Check out their awesome gear here: bit.ly/tslxsony

"I didn't even ask you that but cool" HAHAHAH OMG
Lets be honest here. In most Asian societies, if we were to tell our family, not just our immediate family members, that you’re a “stay-at-home dad”, you would probably be judged and deemed as “lazy” and “weak”.
At this age and time, i guess its ok for dad to stay at home and take care of the kids. Of cos we also need to look at the disadvantage and advantage. If the mom have a more stable job with better income and theres a need for someone to take care of the kids then its completely fine. If the dad have a more stable job with better income, no point forcing a change here and asking the dad to stay at home. Being in an asian society, people will definitely giv looks when male is not the one financially supporting the family but i feel that its based on the circumstances of the family that decide it and they should not have to feel embarrassed to do tat.
yep def agree. the arrangement should be based on what is best for the family, whether it's both parents working, father working only or mother working only
I have an uncle who became a stay-at-home dad whilst his children were all in their primary school. But once his children grew older, he eventually found a job and started working again. In Asia, we have a very powerful mindset that men are generally the main sole bread winners for a family and that if they choose not to work, they'd be labeled as lazy or unmanly because they stayed at home. I too was very critical of my uncle as a child. But fast forward, all his children turned out well and they completed their education altogether.
Guy: "i'm 34. I'm Half Swedish Half american
Fauzi: "I didn't even ask you but cool"
Me: "Bruh U tryin to impress him ISIT??
I've never really thought about this.I always thought when someone has a stay at home dad "cool, nice"
TSL definitely needs to increase the age range of their interviewees, I find that every interviewee on each episode of word on the street are within 15-30 years old, surely there are older people as well who have other substantial opinions? It doesn’t really provide us a good insight on the true “Word on the Street” if we are only getting opinions of young people, this is Orchard Road not Millennial Street.
I think stay-at-home dads is ok. Gender equality! If housewives can cook, do grocery shopping and gossip with neighbours etc, why can't men?
true indeed but if i were to say among close minded people 😭
My aunt is full time bread winner in her family. She runs her own business here & there ,her husband is stay home dad or helping a bit, but more like very laid back kinda man? She is def very strong woman and such an inspiration, but over time, we both respect them as individual. My aunt maybe is bread winner, but my uncle help to take care their grandkids, go to temple often & pray for their kids etc.. so as family, rather than mock/judge them, we should help them in postive way to make them happier couple.
I agree with the guy who said skip bfkast. it really helps!
Really?? Tell me more !
it is actually called intermittent fasting(IF). Basically what is does is you are only allowed to eat in a certain time period of the day, such as 6 or 8 hours. All your calories consume for the day needs to be eaten in that 8 hours. There are many benefits to IF, but one of the most common is it helps with weight loss, cause when you are in starvation mode, your body metabolism will increase as well as you will consume lesser meals/ calories as your body gets adjusted to eating at this time period. Other benefits are less it helps improve brain function and reduce inflammation throughout your body. If you want more information, checkout this link

Hope it helps!
Thanks ! I'll read up on it !
No issue with stay-at-home dads or moms, they're both awesome, taking care of children is hard. I'm more surprise by the "skip breakfast" comment. We were drilled to eat breakfast since young and that comment totally caught me off guard, how did it benefit him? I need more answers!
btw, subtitles are helpful =P i watch videos silently during work
bruh breakfast is the most important meal of the day lmao it also depends on where the person is from becusethe food differs from place to place but like,,,,,,,
I really hate the stereotype of stay at home = lazy because my father is a stay at home dad and he has to juggle his job as a third party in business deals and cook and sometimes clean when we are not free since my mother couldnt handle being alone when my father went to work overseas. I sure hope the stereotype of staying at home meaning that there is a lot of time for yourself gets destroyed soon.
My father is probably the most hardworking man I have ever seen.
1:14 that’s one smart girl haha
Reel Fitness love your videos man 💪
LionCity FitnessBlog thanks man!
Skipping breakfast 😂 which is i been doing for a few years.

I don't think skipping breakfast is what was meant when it was said, "breakfast of champions."
Omg why does the ang moh actually sound like Siri???? TRY IT HAHAHAHAHAHA
Why do you bother videoing people who aren't even actual parents? What do they know about this?
I'd love to be a stay-at-home dad, without the kids, of course.
i'd love it if my future husband can be a stay at home dad LOL
wow really. I actually will be happy if i could be a stay at home dad. no pressure at work , no need pretend to boss haha.
