My 18 yr old son teached me this and he never taken this class. He always says:
“If you around the rich and famous, stand up straight and feel like a rich and famous. When you surrounded by children in a park, play like a child in the park. They don’t and never will know who you really are (they don’t care)but they will perceive you as you want them to perceive you. It’s all in your body language”

The fastest way to change your emotional state isn’t through your thinking as many people think, it’s through your posture and breathing.

Generalized assumptions aren't the best way to think about this. Depending on cultural differences, body language can be very diverse in terms of how its interpreted. She also made a poor comparison between computer software and the human mind. Upgrades are vast changes that sometimes are incompatible with prior devices. Updates are just meant to maintain the use of software for continuous use and compatibility. I highly doubt that just body language of her sons legs would have much impact. Kids can be very hurtful and not always care if you've changed. Given that he was being picked on, it's not likely that he could change others opinions about him this quickly.

You also have to actually change your mind, Pygmalion effect is stronger with other sources of validation, like your own.
Look at the results of your current thought process. You define yourself by a disorder, to the point you think of yourself higher as a higher being, a representation of it, and of every person ever to have it.
It's in a way direspecting your humanity entirely, while also other people's integrity. How ironic.

This was super interesting to me because compliments is where I changed my life. I felt awful about myself and one day in school (I'm proud that I figured this out on my own in such early age) that I would change little things and I started with compliments. I had noticed that when someone complimented me "you look pretty today" my response was "no I dont.." and I realised that it is so rude to the other person to reject their lovely opinion that is theirs. So I chose to say thank you even when I felt like I disagreed and it was the beginning of a long journey going from pessimist to optimist, and broken spirit to confident, and I am finally figuring out how to get past my anxiety into handling an extrovert world. Another key was to find things I liked about myself as a person so that even when my self esteem was low there was at least something in my core that I could remind myself when needed. I also started to name 3 good things that happened that day at the end of every day before sleep, and started to see sleep as rebooting the system with a clean slate every day. I have corrected negative self talk until it gave up, and uncrossing my arms is now next on my list of "road to success with self." :)

Very motivational. What impresses me the most is that you didn’t say to yourself, well, I should do this but...(fill in). You said to yourself I’m going to do this because I want to be less anxious. You stated your intention and followed it up with sound reasoning how it would be fit you. I’ve heard so many people use the word should in these situations and it’s like in their heads, someone else is making them do something they don’t want to do. Guess what? They won’t do it. Or. They’ll do a “good enough for government work” job of it. Which amounts to the same outcome. I’ve learned a great phrase to substitute for should...”I get to do this”. Its the difference between wanting to and feeling like you have to.

Thank you. Now, I understand why sitting and standing straight is very important which my mom by the way always pointed out too. This changes the notion of habits are stone hard to break. Break the old body pattern, the body gets confused, sends a discomfort message to the brain and if new and better results are achieved or expected, the body may adapt the new body pattern if practiced long enough. By consciously putting one's body in a certain state or position, the cognitive dissonance (discomfort) between what one feels and the body language sends out a message in the universe that reflects back to self and the subconscious. If one maintains this pattern interrupt on the brain while seeing the new good results out of it, the subconscious will adapt the new behavior (body language/state) and become the new pattern. I would avoid calling this "fake it till you make it" as the verb "fake it" opposes and confuses the conscious mind and may eventually shutdown the process prematurely.

This talk provides great insight into how we should be aware of our body language and how it effects us and how we are perceived. With that being said, fixing body language wont fix all of your problems, it wont be the only thing making you friends with others, and it wont completely change your sense of self worth. What we should take from this talk is that awareness of body language and applying corrections to it will help you on your journey to becoming who you want to be. It's a piece of the puzzle, not a golden ticket.

This is one great examples of the "Fake it till you make it". It's not really faking it at all, it's reprogramming yourself.
If anyone has doubt on "Fake it till you make it". Show them this talk.
If "Fake it till you make it" doesn't work for you, it's you who are at fault. You did not try hard enough to reprogram yourself. You know you're too comfortable with the old program to adopt a new one.

So, the message conveyed essentially is that what we consider to be automatic actions, like our body stature, our gestures and our immediate or otherwise unconscious reactions can be trained in advance and used to our advantage.
This means that our body language and our communication reflexes are not just a mere indication of our psychological disposition, but in fact contribute in its formation in a direct and signicant way.

👋🏽💫♥️ Awesome content! My favorite take a ways from this video:
When given a complement, instead of ‘brushing it away’ or ‘throwing it away’ ... try working on accepting it . Start the conscious change towards a stronger, more rooted & confident you by consciously changing your body language. ✅
Obviously, there are clues & “tells” to be found by watching other people’s body language. We can find out way more about a person’s beliefs, motivation, & or truth (unconscious or not) by way of posturing, gestures, eye contact, & movements. Nonetheless, perhaps the most profound & powerful treasure to be found in body language, is the ‘upgrade’ our own body language can provide, when harnessed purposefully & intentionally!
For example, watch what you physically do when someone pays you a complement. Sadly, many of us feel uncomfortable when someone throws complements our way. We can feel SO uncomfortable that our body will often make gestures that dismiss or brush off complements. Often people can be observed sweeping their hand back in the air, as if they are batting away the complement. Other people can be observed “brushing off” their pants or something on their shoulder - when given a complement that doesn’t match their internal - even subconscious belief. People will regularly say “thank you” to a complement, while physically their body tells you they disagree & push it away.
I love this speaker’s suggestion for “hacking” your own body language for self esteem, self growth, & as a way to harness deeper rooted confidence. For example, next time someone gives you a complement... try through body language to scoop up that complement with your hand & bring your hand to heart, while saying “thank you.” That’s it. And Watch how it will begin to grown you. Others may notice a difference in us right away, not because we are instantly more confident - but because we will respond more authentically the less we are resisting, dismissing, or “throwing away” pieces of conversation that conflict with internal ideas & beliefs.
Yes ... many believe that “fake it until you make it” are the truest words to live by. I agree to an extent. Perhaps, the “fake it” part is less about faking out others & more about faking out our own internal resistance we have/hold towards our own potential greatness.
One of my most favorite Marianne Williamson’s quotes says ... “It is our Light, not or Dark - we fear most!” Indeed.
So, if we can work with our body to drop it’s resistance & rejection of the positive things that we might not fully believe about ourselves just yet.... it’s like hacking & powering up our ability to more quickly BECOME who we’d like to be ! Focus on awareness & dropping resistance..... that is where CHANGE can enter & begin to root. 💥 🙏

It is amazing that you spoke of arms folded, not folded, folded, not folded, folded... the back and forth I have been going through for a couple of weeks as I purpose to SIT RIGHT. Feet on the floor; not legs crossed. It is an effort. Every time I find my legs crossing, I have to uncross them, say I DON'T CROSS MY LEGS (out loud, or in my head), and solidly place my left foot on the floor, then my right. Like a stomping motion; but not loud or distracting.
Folding my arms the WRONG WAY (Imagine really thinking there is any such thing as a "wrong" way, eh?) does feel hugely horrible! Imagine that...
Yes, you have really got me thinking now.

If we judge ourselves harshly, we assume everyone else is doing that. Hey you’re human. We’re all human. Making mistakes is part of that package. The point is to learn from them even if it takes a few time to “get it”. No shame in that. I first learned to forgive May self for being human, then I learned there was nothing to forgive. I made a mistake, I own it, I try to fix it as best I can by putting myself in the place of whomever I wronged, even if it was myself. Now, I do all of that and celebrate my humanity. Each mistake is not a wrongness within ourselves, it’s an opportunity to learn and become our best possible selves.

I honestly don't think body language is the only substance for social results.
It is an important factor but not the ultimate. I think being bubbly (having lots of interesting talks) and confidence simultaneously is a vital gift/skill in this field.

Try this one: smile. Hold that smile and go about your day until you catch yourself being happy for no reason. And then you remember that you were smiling and you forgot
