Accepted into the program in February 2024, these ladies completed etiquette and financial literacy workshops, church fellowship, fundraising, community service, and an Economic Wealth Entrepreneurship Challenge where they develop and present a business plan all while maintaining at least a 3.0 GPA. As a result of completing all the requirements of the program, each participant will receive a scholarship after providing proof of enrollment in a 2 or 4 year college/university. The final portion of the Miss Fashionetta program culminated in a pageant showcasing the participants’ leadership and poise at the Bakersfield Marriott on Sunday, June 9, 2024.
This year, we welcomed back our “Littles.” These children, kindergarten through fourth grade, were accepted into this portion of the program in April 2024. They immediately began rehearsing to take the stage and share their talent in dance. They also receive a scholarship for completing the program. Congratulations to title winners Darnell Grimes, Jr., Mr Debonair and Amina Porchia, Little Miss Ivy Angel. And congrats to participants Rylee Richard, Kylah Smith, and Cassidy Thomas.
Also, for the final portion of the Miss Fashionetta program, a few young men served as escorts for the young ladies. We were thrilled as well to have a small number of participants from the Youth Leadership Institute (YLI) serve as ushers.
Thank you to the community for your financial support. It will fund scholarships and all other programs supported by the Bakersfield Ivy Legacy Foundation, Inc. like CHIIP food distribution, YLI, Mental Health Awareness, Enhance Our Environment, and Social Justice.
Special thank you to all the parents and families, everyone who purchased ads, and tickets; all sponsorship donors; all bidders and winners in the Silent Auction; the generous businesses that donated items for the Silent Auction, our Pearl Sponsors; and our corporate sponsors, Nestle Purina, Beverly Behavioral Health, and Kern Family Health Care.
