  • A very reliable way to locally backup your important files is to create a mirrored volume.
Essentially, an exact duplicate of all your files on two physical or virtual disks that work together in sync on a single volume and make sure you never lose a single file.

Is it possible to mirror partitions?

All mirror options greyed out... Tried it on new version of Win11 and even on early Win10... Same setup as yours with 5GB VHDs... Thoughts?

It was same for me on new PC with 2 empty HDDs. I simply deleted existing volumes on both HDDs (2:30 view in this video) and then mirroring options (2:42) became active.

@@LL_cinema Yes. On real hard drives I get the all the mirror options available. I am puzzled why can't I recreate what the poster does as well as other YT videos, with the VHDs. I have tried this on VMs and several other PCs with different versions of Windows 10 and 11 and as long as I am using VHDs, the mirror options are ALWAYS greyed out. I don't need this for any practical application, of course, but it just frustrates me that I cannot recreate the scenarion on the video. :(

Can I add another disk to my current computer and mirror my E drive that already has data on it?

Yes, this can be done. Make sure your computer has the ability to connect another disk. If this is a desktop computer and you only have one disk, this shouldn't be an issue. Also, make sure your new disk is at least the same size as the current one. Follow the instructions exactly as they appear while you are creating the mirror. And make sure you have a backup before you proceed.
