      But see the thing is beauty is based on opinions not fact. I for one don't find these woman beautiful at all. And many men wouldn't either. I'd say they're attractive, pretty at best. But to me Kim Kardashian was BEAUTIFUL before all the surgery. Marilyn Monroe was beautiful. These women are all sharp bones with no shape. And this is what we're taught is the epitome of beauty. There is something terrible and beautiful at the same time in this scene. This man is a designer, the whole point of his life is to create beautiful dresses for beautiful women to make them look even more beautiful. Morality for him and for these models has no value, because their lifestyle does not mean many interactions with a many different people, they live just for fashion and beauty. So from his side, what he says is quite reasonable. He sound like some sort of cold-blooded scientist or fanatic artist.
    And by the way, I think by the ideal beauty of Jessie, he means not just appearance, but specifically "living" beauty, the way she talks, walks, and of course the fact that she is young and inexperienced, this gives her some kind of inner glow.

    • @Tumbledweeb
      @Tumbledweeb Год назад

      It's not about beauty, at all. That is a misunderstanding most people have about this movie, causing them to miss the point entirely. Beauty is a subjective experience, it depends on who the beholder is. With me as the beholder, my eyes are permanently fixed on Ruby. I'm gonna tell her I'm 14! Maybe she'll attempt to mount me too?
      What this is really about is something that everyone can agree on, because it's quantifiable: Age. Jesse is 16. Awesome! Modelling agencies wants them as young-looking as possible! And Jesse who looks like a literal child, is perfect! But it's not just about her looking young, it's about her having the brain capacity of a child as well; She is naïve and ignorant to the ways of the world. It's her ignorance that the focus is on, because of the true purpose of this movie: It's a criticism on the modelling industry and how they don't give a flying fuck about the harm they're causing as long as the profits keeps rolling in.
      One last example for now: Remember her signing with the model agency? During that meeting they found out that she had lied about her age, and that she was actually 16. They immediately got another signature form out and pushed her into signing that one too.
      The first thing she was given to sign was the standard modelling contract, which she signed. The second one is a Parental Consent form, which they also manage to get her to sign, and in doing so she has committed a felony. As for the first contract she signed; With no valid Parental Consent form signed, this contract is null and void.
      And Jesse doesn't have a flying fuck what just happened, or what the future implications are.
      In closing, a few words from someone who actually lived this life:
      "Fashion is not art. Fashion isn't even culture. Fashion is advertising, and advertising is money. And for every dollar you earn, someone has to pay." - Gia

    Sarno's argument is pretty easy to refute: he is a high-status man who has access to a lot of beautiful women. What's left then for him to focus on when he chooses the women he wants to spend time with? Personality. Looks matter, but if you keep them as a constant (i.e. you're the kind of guy who can go with any beautiful woman he wants) then personality is the most important thing, something a guy in his position experiences first-hand. Dean could have easily owned him and simultaneously praised him here.

    • @spiritualsnail1584
      @spiritualsnail1584 Год назад +9

      Not really. You'd think that because he has access to the most beautiful women he wouldn't need to care about beauty anymore, but it's actually the opposite, it makes him even more critical, even more in search of the beauty that will surpass the precedent one, the younger, fresher, newer one. Just look at DiCaprio and his nineteen year old girlfriend.

      I work in fashion, I have access to a lot of models. And beauty always will be is everything to me. But it's not some stupid stereotype beauty, only my personal standarts. If girl have bad skin - no, thanks, I don't wanna see her or talk with her, go see dermatologist, please. If girl have narrow hips or zero breast - no thanks, I'm no interested spend time together with girl who are totally not sexy to me. Too big breast or Kardashian-style ass - no thanks, it's not look aesthetical. Honestly I like only 5-7 girls from 100, while all this 100 looking great for most men.
      Of cource, I have a fit body too, six packs and all other shit. Also I like women with freckles, no freckles - no interest.
      Personality? It's for everyday normal loosers. I was child prodigy, start reading 4 years old, read more than 700 books, study astrophysics as hobby, has IQ 145. Most girl's "personality" for me just a ridiculous little thing. I prefer beauty, hotness and cuteness

What Jesse had is something you can take is something that is given. They're both kinda right.
    If the beautiful girls are cold and lifeless and ruthless, they're not beautiful on the inside. They might capture your eye, but beyond that you have no desire to approach them, because they're just cold. But they do catch your attention the easiest.
    Inner beauty is kindness, compassion, joy for life, varies what people value the most. When someone has inner beauty, they captivate. If they were plain and you just bumped into them, but once you talk to them, they turn magnetic. They make you feel good and seen, like life itself echos from them.
    Best combo is of course both. Beautiful to catch the eye, and inner beauty keeps hooked. Inner beauty also enhances all the outer beauty in a person, so a plain person turns beautiful, and a beautiful person turns almost ethereal.

      Tawny yy - But that’s the thing, it’s not about "beauty" in the literal sense of the word. If it was, then yes all the women in this scene are absolutely amazing in their own way.
      It’s about how Jesse is pure from top to bottom, inside and out. She is this new girl who just started in this industry, she have this purity of a child who is just discovering the world and she is beautiful. While the other girls are "tainted" ; they have sex with any person that can get them a job, they’re ready to destroy their faces to be "perfect" etc.. And that’s why they’re the glass and not the diamonds. They are pretty, but they’re not "striking".
      You could compare this with the way light shine through a window (glass) and through a diamond. Both are the same transparency, but the way it’s built makes the light shine very differently through them.

      @@tawnys6172 The thing is that Jessie's beauty has that IT factor. When you see her in a completely regular setting, she is pretty, cute, all those things, but not drop dead gorgeous. However, because she's confident in her beauty, in herself (shyness doesn't equal insecurity) people can see and mold her to whatever they want to see. Weird abstract photoshoots with crystals on her skin or weird golden goo? She can carry it. She can be a pink doll or a baroque angel. She can be fragile, or dangerous, she can do high fashion and wholesome cotagecore photos.
      It isn't so much that her beauty is extraordinary, it is more that it is classic.
      The girl that stood up tries to hard to work against her natural face and look like a different person. Everything, from her posture to her makeup, doesn't suit her perfectly. Because she can't do it all- probably because she operated her face so much that it became a brand rather than a canvas.
      The other girl is way more natural, but she still isn't confident in herself and it shows- she sees one aspect of her looks (her gorgous sharp chekbones) and thinks that sharp is the only thing she can be. She is denied the runway gig that Jessie got because she didn't suit the look the boss man wanted.
      However, after she eats some of Jessie, and gets that it factor (letting your beauty shine through your skin rather than try and plaster beauty ONTO your skin) she is shown that she is going to be successful. It isn't just that she got the gig at the end of the movie, it is that her whole vibe is different. She doesn't LOOK any different, but she looks so much softer. She accepts herself and merely allows other people see it rather than beg them to see it.

    So many beautiful people get dumped coz they've got shit personalities or are idiots. Looks count sure, but it's way below on things that actually matter. If you really think that's the highest currency then you seriously don't have much going for in your life.

      Honestly, Jesse reminds me of those child stars who bought into their hype and were forced to grow up too soon. It really adds to this modern fairy tale aesthetic the movie has.

    tbh i kind of felt bad for Gigi here. and it hurts even more because at least half of what he’s saying is true. Like 50% of the time or more women are ostracized for getting work done (whether or not it’s okay is another argument). Not only does the scene show how models are constantly being compared to each other, how they are no more then their faces to the people in the industry; but it shows how much power Jesse has in that area. This was right after her mental turning point, which would have been the runway scene, so you can see her demeanor change. She acts more egocentric, showing how she is recognizing her value in the modeling industry, and it’s getting to her head.
