Appreciate this dave, looooong story short, just bought a Moza R9, iracing for a year and 200 quid on my fav tracks and cars, and was stuck in rookies for a fortnight using the Mx-5 that cost 3 quid.
I didn't even realize the MX-5 had ABS, mind blown. I thought it just had weak brakes. I come from games where I turn off all assists from day one. I assumed ABS in iRacing was something you needed to turn on, or maybe I saw "braking assist" in the settings and misunderstood it as ABS?
awesome. found this video by mistake ^^ Just yesterday on the Nordschleife we were guessing for the best revs to shift. And that Breaking stuff i found out by myself while "cruising" behind others. Thanks for that Dave.
I learned how to race formula Vee and enjoyed it so much more than mx5. For me it seems like people try to crash u less in vee because they know they are dead too after that. In every mx5 race the overdefensive guy i overtake after few rounds starts hitting me
@@SONICBOOM-117 yea just look at some youtube videos on how to drive the upcoming track and u are save on pole. Only use 3rd and 4th gear and also set break bias to 60% or more so the car is stable and save to drive.

Started Iracing last week. On the first track ive gone from peak laptime of 1:48 to yesterday managing 1:42 im still over 7 seconds behind a competitive laptime but I can see a lot of the mistakes ive been making now seeing this video. Thanks a lot for explaining everything.
Thanks, Dave after a week got to D class on Roads and Rally and got to try your revs advice out for the mx5. Thus far I have been maxing all cars on the revs, any other car's revs advice would be very welcome. And how do I get my tires warmed up ASAP, I have to be very careful on my first lap corners now not to spin out. I need to get myself some Iracing dollars but here in the Netherlands, I can't get any Iracing gift cards to get more tracks and cars. So if a Dutchy can help/advise me with that I would be very grateful for that. Now I have to upgrade myself from my current kitchen table Logitec g920 (with unsolvable double-shift up problems) to a DD wheel/ pedal set and a proper rig, my wallet is complaining but I'm having a blast. I have to try to find out where I can compare DD wheels etc. but that's half the fun.
Thanks for the tips. I started iracing about a week ago and have only done test drives on 3 diffrent tracks getting a feel for the car..what is the next step to help me progress? Keep testing until I can drive it in my sleep? should I practice with others or just start jumping into races? I'm feeling nervous about it lol I don't want to screw other people up but I also know I need to progress 😅 thanks again for the video.
Practice until your lap times are reasonably competitive with practice/race laps in your split. Then start practicing with others, this allows you to start learning how to share track with other drivers. You can "play race" people as long as you communicate and aren't too aggressive. People will "play race" you as well, so this gives you a chance to practice your nerves when in close proximity to others. Finally, join a practice session that's associated with a race. If you feel comfortable, go into qualifying. If you're not, you can always quit. Go ahead and qualify. How did you do? Top 5? Last of the folks with times on the board? Either way you can always quit, or start from pit lane. First few races, maybe start from pit lane and try to make it all the way through with no incidents. Then start back of the field and grab a few cheap places on the first lap (but give them back if they get back going and are faster). Slowly but surely you'll start to realize you're legitimately faster than some of the other drivers and you'll start to set targets for yourself (e.g. qualify and finish top 5). Then it's podiums. You'll suffer setbacks when you make mistakes, or when others wreck/spin you out. Keep at it and eventually there will be moments when you realize you're "getting it."
@@OfficeLinebacker thanks for the time to write that. That helps knowing I can back out at any time until the actual race. I've done a few practices since I posted this and I get what you mean on the "play race" I've had a few fun moments like that. I've just been in the background learning the tracks that are for the week in the mx5 cup so I'm slowly getting the nerve up to jump in one and starting from the pits seems like a good idea thanks.
HELP ANYONE from anyone would be appreciated !!!!! Thanks Dave. I just asked on another video if you could tell or show us how to get this car going off the line. I cant seem to get it moveing from a dead stop at the start or on the tarck after a mishap.
I thought I read in the notes of the car (if you open a session, go into the garage to edit setup and go to the notes tab) that the ideal gear change point was when all the lit dash lights flashed once at 7400RPM just before the limiter? I think you might have gotten that one wrong Dave..... definitely don't want to hit the limiter, but also don't want to leave those 400RPM on the table when you're in the higher gears.
There is no way I'd be revving this motor to 7400rpm. A fraction of a second later and you're into the limiter and losing time. Just over 7k is where I'm at 👍
@@davecamyt fair enough, I just thought it was odd given iRacing explicitly say the “ideal” shift point for this car, but you’re right in that you definitely lose way more time hitting the limiter than you gain pushing the revs higher…. There’s just a few tracks where I find that punishes you. Oulton park fosters for example where you start going up the hill at around 7k revs in 3rd and if you shift to 4th before or on the hill you just lose so much time on the delta compared to waiting until the rev lights flash….. but equally you’re at 5K iR compared to my measly 1.8k so 🤷🏻♂️
Thanks for the tips. Very helpful. I was racing at the Charlotte Roval and after the infield you come onto turn 1 of the oval with a really good exit. I'm pulling away from the car behind me. Right at the exit the cat behind me is going 20+mph faster than me. It's like they hit the nitros bottle and recieved a huge speed advantage. It's supposed to be a fixed race but I'm getting killed on long straights. I am killing them in the infield but I'm not even in the game on the straights. What am I missing. I'm missing something but what is it? Thanks for the assistance
@@teambigmuffin4540 - You would think that but they are 2.5 secons back coming out of the infield and blow past before the back straight starts. I'll get to a 34.5 soon but getting smoked by 2 5 seconds is nuts in a fixed series.

There’s small bass shakers that will attach right to the bottom of the bread that simulates ABS

Is braking assist same as ABS in this game?
Not quite, Braking assist will apply the brake for you near enough at the right time. ABS will stop the tyres from locking up under braking.
