Looks like Ermin's hit the most frustrating part of being an experienced sim racer coming through iRacing rookies. Coming up against drivers who have worked out how to be reasonably quick, but still don't understand how to actuall race other people properly. It's a slog but worth pushing through it.
Yeah but that was 2nd split and nobody in it was actually a rookie. 3 A class, 2 B and a C. The rest were Ds. Top 4 finishers all had iRating of 2K plus, including the guy who bumped Ermin. As a further illustration that iRating isn't everything, in a race last night I was hit from behind while in 2nd place at the same corner - but the the guy just kept his foot down until he'd looped me. Ruined my race, naturally. He had an iRating of over 2K too. TBH, I was thinking of reporting it.
Funny because I think it's the other way around. Once you race against real people for a while you learn not to move across them in the braking zone after leaving them a gap on the inside. Technically they may be at fault but you are still asking for trouble.
Fastest way out of rookies: Skip qualifications, start from the pit, avoid everyone and just bring the car home with 0 incidents. 5-6 races max and you're out of rookies. In D, depending on the car class you take its a bit more of the same. D class open wheel is something else... Ferrari 488s are very popular in D class and I find a lot of people are carrying bad habits from rookies mixed with much more speed. C class is where I found the field is more in control and there is less stupid driving. C class Mx5 races are so much fun.
I mean no-holds barred racing could be a cool thing in BeamNG, not so much other sims. Idea for a NHB “death race”: 1. Everyone gets the same standardized engine. 2. Player decides how much or how little steel to attach to it.
brace yourself for the Ferrari Series in D-License. I found that there were many people who could not handle that car in that license. and if its a tight track on the schedule, best to stay away from it.
A lot of people enter iracing with a lot of Sim racing experience... So it's nice that it's an option. But for new racers... A good Ole fashioned gt3 is a lot of car for D license. Which can be achieved in less than a day if you have the time.
yeah, I've been taken out from the track from behind on the last 5/6 Ferrari D license races and my iRating just went down the drain...it's frustrating. Might try the skippy so I can get away from the gt3 chaos and leave it for C license...

Oulton is in the North West of England. It's a fantastic circuit and a really picturesque place to watch all kinds of irl racing. I'm lucky enough to only be about an hour away and should really go more often 😅 got there last year to see Jimmer in the Praga.
stuff like this makes me miss times of getting out rookies and building up ir and safety ratings im now at 2k ir i feel like have hit my ceiling with A license
You probably think that you've hit your ceiling but you are most likely just not seeing rapid progress anymore, just like you don't see how you grow older day by day. Keep it up ^^
I love this series. It has the best side by side RACING. The cars performance is a shade short and the handling is as expected at the slower speeds but rewards car control. Once you get a couple of laps in and get some separation from the slower lap time cars you can get on with it.
I have raced a few of these guys a good number of times. The experience is always the same, so it is great to see they are learning. Instead of getting into it, I find waiting for them to make a mistake is better than going for positions, which is very frustrating when I'm racing at 70% potential.
@17:57 I believe the word you're looking for is concertina. Great content, keep em coming! Edit: crash compilation at the end is always a good time. "Let's take a look at the carnage" tm
Yes crash comp would be good. Looking at some of those crashes I don't think many are deliberate, obviously a few are. I drive with a Logitech Driving Force Pro, at this time I don't have funds for something better. Back in the day it was a good wheel, now it's fairly well down the list so I don't have the precise feel of a New Thrustmaster or Fanatec. It's very easy to get a slight wobble or a weave on an undulating track such as Oulton so what looks like a punterino could in fact be down to poor control due to dated equipment. And being as this is a Rookie race setting a car up does not come easily to everyone.
i dont like the racelabs radar as it doesn't actually show the cars position. tried using it and found it was more of a distraction then something useful. i 100% agree tho that iracing needs to add there own radar where it shows the cars position like the one in ACC. its a must for sim racing games and can help clean up overtakes alot
One of my fav content creators on my favourite track. What possibly could go wrong 😛 Based in the wonderful county of Cheshire BTW. Been there for a car show a couple of times. Not had a chance to spectate there yet but defo a mini nurburgring.
So a new iracing UI is confirmed to be coming, but with kapps and racelabs doing the work for them is not a priorority. Also, the racelab radar doesn’t show how far away is from you, just if there’s someone by your side. In another note, to be fast in the mx5 you need to push the tyres more, you want to really throw the car around the corner, don’t be afraid to engage that slip point.
Still some great racing despite the minor offs and at least you didn't get an unexpected SpaceX membership! Also I'd love to see an incident compilation at the end!
Oulton Park is an utterly amazing track IRL. I had some great races there. Thumbnail of my only video on my channel is a big crash at the banked corner. Yeah, it’s North West UK 🙂
Looks like a lot of fun. Not a huge fan of paying a monthly fee to play a game but if I can afford it in the future I'd love to give this game (and other sims) a try! :D
The amount the visual first impression of iracing has improved in 2years is amazing and more is prob to come with the new developers they purchased hopefully raytracing and new tree mesh
In some ways it looks nicer than what i would consider past gen sims like raceroom ac ams1 and pc2 LFS they sorta have "made it" but are still bottom of the barrel but its ok used to be of no interest to me Beacuse of the looks mostly tbh
No radar as IR don't add stuff which is unrelastic for the car. Hence why you don't get live tyre data unless the car has sensors. They don't add radar is the car does not have it ect. It's just for the realism I believe
I'd love to know more about the iRacing tyre and damage model. It seems really easy to change the feeling of the car by having an incident like Ermin did.

D licence is all you need, and I guarantee you, you will have so much fun content for your channel for the rest of season! The races there are absolutely BONKERS!
Before I started with sim driving I was a local Nordschleife tracknerd. I made mods for GTR Evolution and some skins fpr Assetto Corsa. I always liked Assetto Corsas FFB best but I tried IRacing at a buddy´s rig and I have to say this week I will get my first subscribtions. Iracing is the first sims, apart from AC, that realistically depicts the sense of speed and the understeer feeling. The worst sim I tested so far was Assetto Corsa Competizione. The FFB give barely any usable info. And I have driven such cars in real life. They are not THAT bad in real life. Quite the opposite XD
That backside tap was just him miss braking. If it looked like netcode or not, It was just him totally misjudging his braking and he was always gonna hit your rear end personally. The radar is most likely not in it for realism purposes. They are redesigning the UI so they might add it in then. It seemed like a well behaved lobby for rookies. Things happen, that's racing sometimes 😄 "Turkey Timeline" would be awesome at the end for just a good laugh
I do understand the radar not being a thing for realism, but I think with the number of people playing iRacing on such varied rigs/FOVs where peripheral vision might be super limited, it would be a nice option to have just to be able to keep clear of someone who is out of your line of sight. I guess we wait and see if it comes along at some point. Agree that overall it was a pretty well behaved rookies lobby.
Renato is a very aggressive defender...which is fine, you can take advantage of that, but he needs to learn that he can't move over when the other car is *already there*
I think the guy just outbraked himself, didn't seem malicious but what I can't stand is when someone punts you like that you get contact points and penalty points. On a dirt race recently I got punted into the Joker zone at the start and got a 20 second penalty for taking the Joker on lap 1!
I have a 3k rating and have turned the radar off because i feel it misleading compared to just "knowing" where they are. You get the feeling after a while. And if im in a drag race down a straight i use z and x to look to the side before the next corner.
Don't be harsh on these guys, they just thought MX-5 was an abbreviation of rally cross's distant cousin, murder cross, with the 5 signifying the maximum number of survivors allowed.
