    I almost like everything about this car - Nissan did a great job correcting the deficiencies or the old Leaf for this gen 2 car. The looks improved drastically, from looking like an alien spaceship to a European-looking hatchback, the new 150hp motor, ProPilot, e-pedal one pedal drive & simple gauge design. The price barely increased too, which is a bargain considering its better specs, standard equipment & 25%+ battery size.
    My only real reservations is the lack of TMS (likely not an issue since I can't imagine using this car for cross-country treks often in Canada) and the heavily rumored 2019 60kWh version with LG Chem batteries, which is better than the AESC batteries used in current Leafs + active TMS. If the Volt & Bolt (Ampera & Ampera-E) which both employs LG Chem batteries are to go by, they may be even better than...dare I say it... the Panasonic batteries used by Tesla.
    Regarding the ProPilot, one of the main criticisms of Tesla's Autopilot is that it crosses the line of legal regulations between autonomous driving & lack of attention. Autopilot is a refined adaptive cruise + autosteering, but it is no substitute for autonomous driving, as the news of Model S crashing into a parked firetruck can attest to. I like the fact Nissan is so insistent on the driver being ATTENTIVE with his hands always at the ready in-case of emergencies, something Tesla is too lax about with Autopilot, leading to accidents.

    Nissan knows what they are doing. It's a fantastic car . Bjorn is a Tesla guy but he likes all EVs . He has great enthusiasm . Unlike some tesla people who think "Tesla is the best" and these other electric cars are not even worth looking at. This is why I watch everything Bjorn does. Keep it up Bjorn!

    I have a really hard time believing this car actually has optical speed sign recognition. It does a ton of mistakes:
    3:33 switches to 50 without any sign
    4:48 switches to 40 without any sign
    8:28 switched to 80 just before a 120 sign
    9:30 ignores 120 sign
    11:26 switches to 120 without any sign
    13:01 switches to 40 without any sign
    14:37 switches to 120 without any sign
    17:32 ignores 80 sign
    17:35 ignores 60 sign
    19:48 switches to 50 without any sign
    22:20 switches to 90 / 60 ? without any sign
    22:28 switches to 90 without any sign
    28:14 switches shortly to 50 without any reason (should be 90 right away)
    So it probably only relies on either outdated or wrong map data.

    • @tonymontana7479
      @tonymontana7479 6 лет назад +2

      They indeed call it "Traffic Sign Recognition" on the Nissan UK website. I wouldn't call a map data solution "recognition". So either it's fake or it's doing a really bad job.

      Speed limit signs look more or less the same throughout Europe. There are only tiny differences between different countries, for example a slightly different font. So if it doesn't work properly with Spanish signs or is super picky about the exact details, it probably won't work reliably anywhere in Europe.

    • @GettinSadda
      @GettinSadda 6 лет назад +1

      It seems to be reading signs that are not on the road being driven - I did notice at ~13:00 there was a road going off on the right that had a 40 sign and as the car passed this sign it switched to 40! There needs to be some sort of update so the car only monitors signs that are on the road that the car is using. This may not be possible with the existing hardware.
      I hope that it also ignores any signs that appear to be moving... so those signs on the back of some lorries will not fool it.

    • @Ty4ons
      @Ty4ons 6 лет назад

      I'm not sure what the local rules are there, but at least in Norway there should be speed limit signs on both sides when there's a change in the speed limit while signs that just repeat the current speed limit are only put on one side (the right side).

    • @whlphil
      @whlphil 6 лет назад

      From my experience on my 2.zero it does read the signs but also refers to the maps records, sometimes it gets it right and sometimes not. Its recognised overhead gantry variable speed signs on UK motorways

    You are in Tenerife my island!
    Hehe this island have a lot of different weathers. You can choose the weather because the high.
    It's more cold and rain in the north of the island than the south
    I know that's strange but yes we have snow and cold weather in some parts of island.
    For example in La Laguna you will get 13 - 4 degrees and In las Americas you will get now 22 - 16 degrees
    And the on Teide you will get -10 / -21 degrees on the top of mountain and on the national park you will get -4
    We have a lot of weathers to test the cars 👌🏻
    Welcome, I hope to see you more videos on Tenerife.
    I have bought my me new vw e-golf if you want to see and test the car here with me on Tenerife or maybe I can help you with something please contact me.

    I don't like that friction brakes are activated with one pedal driving. It may feel like you're getting more regen in E mode, but it's actually a combination of brakes and regen.

      I agree, it probably doesn't optically read the signs. Often times it changes the speed limit without any sign being there. I spotted 13 mistakes it made, see my comment above/below for a list.

    Thanks Bjørn! Great video!
    My opinion to the e-Pedal: I bet it's very comfortable and so on but(t) if it automaticly uses fricition brake if you let off the foot of the pedal you loose potential regen-energy. Yeah, surely you would need to brake anyway then, but if you know your "max regen-braking", you will get used to it and also drive more anticipatory. So...more comfortable? Yes! But also more "lavish"...

    Great review. It looks like an impressive, well designed package. But I still don’t understand the desire to drive hands off, even for a little. What is it people need to be doing with their hands that’s more important than keeping, even one, on the wheel. I feel like I’m missing out on something.

    I don’t know if it’s the same, but on other full hybrids and electric cars, you shouldn’t drive with it in B mode, as that’s meant to be used for recharging the batteries for slowing down when coming up to traffic or on a downhill section. If you drive in B mode normally, it will actually not give you S much range as the second you release the accelerator it decelerates quickly, meaning you won’t coast far and have to reapply the accelerator again, using more energy. It’s why the speed was dropping off so quickly on the motorway sections. Just a tip for when you test it again Bjorn ;)

    Drove the New Leaf yesterday for about 4 hours. I can confirm the Propilot uses resistance to turning movement to detect you. Tie a scarf to the bottom half of the wheel, on either side of the straight bit apply pressure with your arm to the scarf and the car doesn't nagg you mmmm. I don't recommend doing this as it's dangerous but I HAD to try it!!

  • @dwftube
    @dwftube 6 лет назад

    Two concerns about the E-pedal: 1) People may come to rely on it too much and not be ready to use the brakes when they should. 2) You should not use the E-pedal (nor the brakes) to slow you in the corner - you should slow to the right speed for the bend before you enter it. Other than that - great review, want one.

    Should I get the leaf or the bolt?

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  6 лет назад

      Bolt EV has more range but cost 50 % more. And Leaf has better ProPilot and features.

      Bjørn Nyland so if you get them for the same price you'd go with the bolt?
      Im going to end up leasing, so my payment will be abt the same becuz I have a bidding war going on lol

    What's your opinion on asking Nissan to make CCS a rapid charge option?

    • @bjornnyland
      @bjornnyland  6 лет назад +2

      They will stick to CHAdeMO because it's bi-directional. That's needed for V2G.

      Every CHAdeMO Car is vehicle to grid ready.Ccs cant Do this

      Great question, I wonder if Chademo will be well supported in the future in countries that haven't yet deployed a charging infrastructure (like Spain). Looks like Nissan is the only brand going for Chademo. Even Renault doesn't know what to choose and sells its cars without DC charging.

    Bjørn... DONT test regen with more than 90% battery left... You wont get an accurate result. In order to do maximum regen, battery needs to be discharge more
