  • Here's a rare one! It's Bid 'n' Buy, an auction style game show hosted by Bert Parks. This series only ran for 3 months, from July 1, 1958 to September 23, 1958.

As seen on Tuesdays at 10pm(et), as the summer replacement for "THE $64,000 QUESTION" (also sponsored by Revlon).

I see where Price is Right got the backdrop for Barker's openings from 72-83!

Actually I prefer the quiz shows of the mid and late 1950s to today’s shows because (rigged or not) the questions required you to actually have some knowledge in order to answer them. The only show on today that even comes close is Jeopardy!.

And payouts like this disappeared within months after this show ended thanks to the aftermath of the quiz show scandals - as it wouldn't be until the 1970s when we'd see big payouts like this again.

The Price Is Right continued to give away big payouts on its nighttime show through 1964. That’s because it wasn’t rigged.

Fresh new gem not seen since 1958. The quiz section is hard. The spokeswoman looks HOT.

The Jaguar would be $55,891.79 in 2023 dollars.
