nursing students! if you can, try to get a job as a nurse's assistant or patient care technician - it really is eye opening and a lot more raw than compared to a student clinical setting :)

I wish more nurses had the holistic health mindset like you do. As a psych patient, I’ve met way too many nurses who would only focus on the physical part of my emergency and completely ignore the psychological part of my emergency. At times they were straight up cruel and would say really awful things.

Switched careers because I felt like I didn’t have a purpose of where I was. It’s so hard to pick what you want to do while you’re in highschool and actually do that! I earned a B.S. in environmental science and then realized just because I have a passion for recycling doesn’t mean I have to do an entire career in a field that related!

I think it is SOOOO important to job shadow or volunteer in care settings to see if it is for you. it is NOTHING like on TV and I am just starting to learn that now. I'd be interested to hear your opinion about the negative stereotypes and public perception about nurses. Recently on social media, I see so many people say that all nurses are just highschool bullies, nursing school is easy/for "dumb" people, nurses become nurses so they can have power over patients, nurses are the mean girls that peaked in highschool, etc. Seeing people talk about nurses like this worries me. Like in your experience, are nurses actually that bad? Or are people just being biased?

As a nursing student and intern, I really don’t know where this came from. 1) nursing school is challenging for everyone in my class, we just have different strengths 2) a lot of the nurses I have had the opportunity to shadow at clinical/work are very sweet and nice people who genuinely care about patients and willing to teach me. This not to say that you won’t find a nurse that isn’t as friendly or professional as you hope, but I think that stereotype is quite odd.

This very informative! I’ve worked at a senior retirement home for some time now and even tho I went to school for early childhood and have worked in school setting , I’ve worked around senior citizens for awhile but not directly more on the food service side and sometimes I feel the healthcare field calling my name. I have a cousin who is paralyzed and I take him on walks from time to time. I’m still trying to find not only my passion but my purpose, my strengths . I’d like to shadow a nurse to see if it’s something I’d like to pursue and to see if my strength lies there. Any advice?

You are not limited to just being a registered nurse. This is the first thing you need to know about being a nurse. People will try to keep you in nursing when you want to walk away from it, but just know you have a skill set that can earn you employment outside of the field.

Hi! I have watched your videos for a while now. I am on my last three semesters of nursing school and I want to document it. I think I want to post content on youtube, the more information a future nurse has the better. Any advice on where I should start, its so much I can share, how you do you determine what to talk about, to make videos worth watching?

Does it really matter getting an BSN? My school offers an associates program directly to RN but also offers an additional “RN to BSN” program. Does getting a BSN really make that much of a difference?

There is never anything glamorous about being a nurse. A doctor studies longer and hard. Earn a title, good reputation and save lives. Surgeons operate. Psychiatrists treat patients and can make powerful notes to allow a patient to take a leave of absence from work. Nurses can't. Nurses are very jealous about doctors. Anyone can become a nurse here it's e years on college to get your basic RN and then you get to work in hospitals. Many hate their jobs. Want the praises but will never EVER be at thr high level that is a Doctor. Nurses are very good at complaining about salary and workplaces. Only a very rare few are actually good and passionate about what they do.

There's so many different opportunities and different kinds of nursing. I haven't started my career in nursing yet as a nursing student but is it difficult to switch? Are you ever sort of locked-in once you get specialized?

Agreed, bedside is the best place to start for any and all new nurses then branch out to your passion area within your career.
Never fake it, ask questions, be honest and always be open to learn. It never stops.
This career is for those who REALLY care for others, please come into the field if this is you. Otherwise, don't consider. Patients do not deserve this type of care. #trueintegrityamust #apassionateBSNRN
