It was future when it was given, but now fulfilled for us. The man of lawlessness was Eleazar, son of Ananus and grandson of Judas Iscariot. He was revealed on August 14, AD66. His dad was the restrainer and died that day. That was also the day he put an end to sacrifice and offerings for Nero. Nero then ordered after that, the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple. The falling away took place during the Jewish revolt. The man of lawlessness eventually fled to the Masada during the destruction of the temple (he was governor of the temple). He gave a speech at the Masada, which led to their suicide. That was the last of Israel’s enemies, which was death since they committed suicide. Then Israel had their last Yom Teruah, and their last day was Tishri 5, or in Gregorian, September 22, AD73. A few years after the temple was destroyed.
"About the Day of the Lord and our being gathered to him, brothers, to execute the justifiable judgment of God," Apostle Paul said in his letters for his spiritual brothers, "don't let any spirit, prophecy, or letter that is like came from us saying "The Day of the Lord is already reigning!" Don't let anyone deceives you by any means for the Lord's Day will not come unless these two things occur first:
"One, the people will reach the peak of their rebellion against the Truth that is being preached by the saints and....
"Two, the man of sin or the son of perdition is revealed first.
"Don't you remember that I used to tell you these things? And you know what is the hindrance right now so that he will be only exposed in the appointed time."
What will this wicked power is going to do?
"He will oppose and exalt himself above all the holy ones, so that he sets himself up in God's heavenly temple proclaiming himself as the Eternal God or the Holy Father, the head of the church and the dispenser of truth."
(Why is it that God will let the people to be ruled by this wicked ruler and also why will he let his saints to be captivated and oppressed?)
Because of the people's rebellion, God will punish them and at the same time, to test the faithfulness of his saints even in times of tribulation so that they can rightfully join Christ in judging the world on his Day.
Apostle Paul continued, "This secret power of lawlessness is already at work during these times but someone is hindering its exposé and he will remain secret until the one who is keeping him from being revealed is taken out of the way."
Satan, the Dark Power is hiding this power of wickedness, his tool for deception, so that he can effectively deceive the world and can lead the people to follow his evil teachings, and to facilitate his reign over them and over the saints. But after his appointed day ends, the Lord will come down, seize him, bound him, and will throw him in prison. If that happened already...
"Then the wicked one will be exposed whom the Lord will slain by the word of truth and destroy by the brightness of his Day."
And that Day will be a thousand bright years, the end times of the world to face God's judgments, mercy, and salvation.
But before that Day, Apostle Paul explained the Day of the Wicked One. He will perform counterfeit miracles using the power of Satan to deceive those who are perishing. They perish because they rejected the truth that should have saved them, but instead, they chose and delighted in wickedness. This is why God will send this powerful spirit of delusion over them so that they will continue to believe the lie and be condemned.
What history confirms?
During the 5th century until the ends of the 17th century, the spirit behind the papacy of the Rome claimed he is the Holy Father and head above all the saints and the sole teacher of truth and that the Day of the Lord is already reigning. But he and his wrong teachings were exposed, he was overpowered, and his church was divided at the ends of the 1700's onward.

It says one event, then another afterwards. Every single Bible translation agrees on this point.
The PAPACY. Came after Paul, exalted itself above God, and sat in the temple of God, showing himself to be God.

There should be no confusion as to the nature of "the man of lawlessness". Moses prophesied that Israel would rebel from keeping the covenant and obedience to the 10 commandments later in its statehood. Moses writes, "Be sure to keep all the commandments of this covenant lest a *man*, woman, clan or tribe incite the nation to rebel against the covenant and worship other Gods ("rulers") for God will never forgive that man and his anger will burn like fire against that *man*, woman, clan or tribe (Deuteronomy 29:16-29) The "rebellion" Paul speaks of is Israel's rebellion against the keeping of its national covenant (as Daniel 9 also mentioned) and "the man of lawlessness" is a prominent Israelite leader who will dissuade the nation from obedience to the 10 commandments of the covenant. Paul is simply reiterating Moses' and Yeshua's warnings not to let false prophets or blind leaders mislead Israel from obedience to the commandments. I feel as though the keeping of Sabbath Memorial is the pivotal point for the man of lawlessness because Yeshua appeared to John on Sabbath Memorial Day, "The Lord's Day", that which God regards as his "seal of allegiance" (Isaiah 56:1-7, 58:1-2, 58:13-14), and warns that violators who accept the mark of this wayward government instead of his seal will not be able to "buy and sell gold, linen or eye salve" from him and will have "no rest day" and Revelation closes with a strong admonition to keep the 10 commandments and then describes those who do not keep the 10 commandments as "dogs, magicians, necromancers, sexually immoral or deviant, murderers, idolaters and those who love to practice falsehood and deception" (Revelation 22:14-15).
wouldn't it be easier for man to admit he is the man of lawlessness instead of looking at other men to determine if they a the man of lawlessness? And if man does not know his Christ within him, how could man know Christ? If man does not recognize the temple of God is the body man believes is his, would he not know his God? Wouldn't this be considered "anti-Christ"? When man practices sinning against his living God, man is committing lawlessness. When man takes the throne of God, man is lawlessness. When man uses his own thoughts or conscious to make his decisions, he has taken the throne of God who dwells within man, in the most high place of his temple. You are right, there are a lot of false religions and teachings. How many people will proclaim the living God within them? They look elsewhere.

The revelation of the "man of lawlessness" heralds the coming of the lord , why ? Simply because he is that "man of lawlessness" as he is lord of everything , he is not bound by any law the reason he is called "lawless" , and because he is "lawless" , he is SINLESS for no law can accuse him because he is not under the law...and because he is the "man of lawlessness" , he hates the lawlessness of men because men are under the law , and they transgress the law...he is coming into the world to destroy sinners and their evil works...
There lies the mystery of "lawlessness" , it has two meanings which are exactly opposed to each other , the first meaning of "lawlessness" is SINFULNESS while the second meaning of "lawlessness" is SINLESSNESS...

There are two comings presented in 2Thessalonians 2:
First, the coming of the wicked one, and then after he is exposed, the coming of the Lord commences.
The word coming here is equal to the Day of the Lord or his reign and also the gathering of the saints to him.
So, before the Day of the Lord, the Day of Wicked One comes first and he will scatter the saints.
Paul described this Wicked One as already doing his evil works even during the first century but in mystery or in secrecy. Unrevealed, unexposed, covered, or hidden, to effectively deceive the world.
Paul said that someone was keeping him from being exposed and that situation will continue until this hindrance to his revelation is taken out of the way.
I believe that Paul was talking about Satan, the Dark Power, who was hiding the Evil One. Once he is removed or put in prison, his wicked son is exposed, and the Thousand Bright Years will come and all the saints will be gathered to the Lord and will execute the fair judgment to the world.
How to distinguish this Evil One?
After the people have reached the peak of their rebellion against the pure teaching of the saints, God will puniish then by letting this Evil One rule over them. At the sane time, the saints will be tested of their loyalty during these time of tribulation.
The wicked one (who is a spirit) will oppose all the teachings of the saints and will exalt himself above them all by setting up his throne in the church of God and proclaims he is the God or the Holy Father (Santo Papa) and as Head of God's Church. And the saints were handed to him for a time, times, and half a time.
This was fulfilled from 538 C.E. to 1798 C.E., a thousand year-reign of this false holy spirit over the saints and during these dark times, this spirit preached that the thousand years of Christ has come already through the reign of christianity led by their Holy Father who sits in the Vatican city.
But from 1798 to 1844, he was finally exposed, overpowered, and divided into many factions and from 1844 to 3104, a 1,260 years also, the Word of Truth will annihilate this Wicked One and the brightness of the Day will destroy him.
You make good points, but I think that you err in that you claim that "someone" is holding back the man of lawlessness. 2 Thessalonians 2 makes it clear that the man of lawlessness will not be revealed "until *the rebellion* occurs" and "now you know what is holding him back so that the man of lawlessness is revealed at the proper time".
Then Paul states, "the one who now holds it (the rebellion) back will continue to do so until he is taken out of the way, *then the man of lawlessness will be revealed*..."
The man of lawlessness is being held back because "the rebellion" has not occurred yet.
Once Israel has rebelled against the observation of the 10 commandments of the covenant in a specific way and for a designated duration of time then the man of lawlessness will be revealed.
"Oh, Lord, Great and Awesome Ruler, who keeps his covenant of love with all who love him and obey his commandments: we have sinned, we have erred, we have been wicked and *we have rebelled*..." (Daniel 9:4-14).
The man of sin. The son of perdition. Very much referring to A person. It also said he is not yet revealed and there are many false religions and all are revealed. I'm guessing ur sda and ur building towards "theory" on Sunday worship being the mark of the beast.

Utter nonsense This is definitely a false teaching. Why are you ignoring what Daniel wrote concerning the “little horn”? He is a person who rises to power and blasphemes God and His people. He is the beast who has the world worshipping him. That is who the MAN (a single individual) of sin is.

Actually, the little horn is the papacy, which is also the first beast that the land beast, the US, will make the image to (a copy of enforced Sunday laws like the first beast did.) The little horn grew directly out of the pagan Roman empire, and of the 10 divisions of Rome, the papacy uprooted 3 tribes, the Vandals, Heruli, and Ostragoths. It then went on to rule for 1260 years, kill saints, and blaspheme God by claiming the pope was God on earth.
