As stunning and as distinctive as only the incomparable MARLENE DIETRICH could make it. I thought I knewall of the later day Dietrich recordings as record companies often just reissue the same ones. Lisen to the heartbreak in her voice. Is this from her EMI period. I will hope it can be released on CD. I was fortunate to see Dietrich `live` in 1973 and 1975 There were so many untruths written about her stage act ( after she died). To those who were there they treasured the experience.
No me dejes solo!
I don't care much for German, as a language of love. But this brings tears to my eyes. Her singing voice may not be great, but the sentiment, the emotion... Bravo Marlene!
Oh mein gott! This is absolutely heartbreaking........and there was me thinking that none could touch Jacques Brel's original but this has me in tears.
A beautiful version, and thanks for the lyrics. I found that these german lyrics were not as deep as the french ones, though, they are more straightforward. In the french version you find many powerfull poetic images, and some weirdnesses in the (very desperate) lyrics.
german can be very romantic and beautiful, you have no idea, it sounds sweet if the one who speaks speaks sweet, like all languages, spanish is also brutal when facists speak in it. my first boyfriend was german and when he said "ich liebe dich" i could fly
As Judy Garland once said, "Marlene is not one of our better singers" but here she puts all of her meager resources together and comes up with a rendition nicely sung and very deeply felt. I was supposed to see her at Carnegie Hall sometime in the '70's but she fell off the stage in Philadelphia and cancelled the rest of the tour. Ah, missed opportunities! Let's NEVER forget what she did for the Allies in World War 2.
@azteca1951 She actually outlived this song for a good 33 years. Where are you getting your numbers from? "Ne me quitte pas" ("Don't Leave Me") is a song written and sung in French and in Dutch (as "Laat me niet alleen") by the Belgian chansonnier (singer-songwriter) Jacques Brel in 1959. Marlene Dietrich (German pronunciation: [maɐˈleːnə ˈdiːtʁɪç]; 27 December 1901 - 6 May 1992)[1] was a German-American actress and singer.
this is a truly great song and all the finest interpreters of lyrics gave their own individual interpretation from Nina Simone to Shirley Bassey but Marlene adds her own `stamp`. I saw her `live` she was sensational and unforgettable. When was this recording made?
Une découverte "Lili Marlène" chantant Brel... J 'apprécie, surtout en Allemand, Mon contentieux s'efface devant tant de talents RIP Marlène on t'apprécie encore!
I really never thought this version in German could be so moving.
Diese Frau ist unvergessen. Eine Legende.
Sehr beruehrend😔

Bitte Geh Nicht Fort !...
Wirklich!
Simply the best! Unforgettable and beautiful!
It's breathtaking! Amazingly touching interpretation of this song by Marlene Dietrich!
The great interpretation of the really great song! Marlene makes a real mono-performance.

So ein schönes Lied ... ich musste weinen

Heartbreaking, emotional and beautiful.
Is it normal to start crying to this song, when I don't understand a lick of German?
That's the best of Jacques Brel and Marlene Dietrich combined for ya ;) You're right, it's very emotional.
Ne me quitte pas = don't leave me. Marlene chose to cry in her performance.
It proves she s real big actress
Danke Frau Dietrich !

Martha CaresのNe me quitte pasもお薦めです。
There are so many people performing this song in different languages and in my opinion best sounds in French :)
I'm Brazilian... I remember the fever when the Maysa tv series was on. But no, I didn't see anything so impressive in her rendering.
Wonderful xx
