A pleasant surprise that you'd do a video on Tarling! First heard about him in the Elite men's Road TT performance after hearing about how young he is which explained why I couldn't find anything about him. I can't help but compare him to Filippo Ganna given his specialties are very similar, Ganna holds records on track, some road race results and is a highly specialized TT performer. Which is similar to Tarling's results presented thus far, he even has a similar build as him look at 7:57 for comparison. So I expect him to do great in the TTs and have some performances elsewhere, mainly in the track and not tour level performances, just like Ganna. The big problem with tall cyclists like him and Ganna is that while they can produce power for days it gets dragged down because of their cda, aka aero drag, which becomes more impactful the more power you have along with your height adding weight which negatively impacts the w/kg equation for the hills. This explains why we usually don't see tall people in road cycling. So it is nice to see that a tall cyclist like Tarling can show off their true power in TTs where everyone gets scrunched up reducing their cda spread between the cyclists and TTs are usually flat where weight doesn't matter as much.
O g what a talent i won many local (provincial ten mile tts on a admittedly very slow windy course. Best time 24 1/2 minutes. In 1973. Aero was bend down then lol. We were amazed to read English results under 24 minutes ( 25 mph). According to my estimates based on better tech now i might have been in the 21-22 minute range at age 16-17.... so sub 19 is incredibly great
He's Welsh so I'm pulling for him to do well. But didn't he get DQ'd this season (2024) for a sticky bottle? That was really STUPID, Joshua. Be smart. Represent Wales properly.
Which part of the "he wants to win classics, not the TdF" escaped this comment? He has a build that is similar to a mix of WvA and Ganna, which isn't exactly bad for that goal. So even if the video randomly throws TdF in there, Tarling himself seems to be into the cobbled classics more and those should fit him well and seems to be part of the current development plan for him too. So, not "just" a time trialist, just not a GC rider necessarily. (But every year the sport also seems to have the "can WvA win a GT" discussion, so... who knows 😅)

Days of big guys winning tdf is over. The pure w/kg advantage smaller guys have is huge and they're becoming elite time trialists as well.
solid boy, loving this new gen

Hes a great rider but at 78kgs he isnt going to win the tdf. Probably just a time trialist
