  • I am here to repair, a couple water leaks, on a hot water boiler. The Relief valve leaks, and a drain valve drips. Therefore I have to replace both. This boiler relief valve looks like it’s been leaking for a long time. The hardest part of this Heat repair, the relief valve piping is soldered. Therefore I will have to disconnect the piping with a torch or coding. Replace the leaking relief valve. Then sweat the pipe together. I start off by draining down that section of the boiler. Drain valve comes off very easily. Next I disconnect and remove the relief valve. Install new release valve. Test boiler with new components.

    Very nice customer to have made that ribbon! Not too surprising, that she recognized how nicely you treated her!

      I was surprised, not often someone wants to spend time creating something for someone they barely know.

      I believe I will still be using the same wrenches when I finally put my tools down and retire. They are tough and built to last

    Last question why didn't you put the TP valve pointing in between the two pipes and do a straight piece of copper and then have a 90 pointing down therefore it would be easier access for everybody else after that point and also great videos I know I nitpick a lot but I wish you would show the BTU capacity of the one you replaced with the one that you put in explain to people the BTU ratings of the boiler and the minimum for the relief valve as well as why there's a minimum for the BTU relief may as well since you're talking about it anyways you know what I mean

    Everybody should know this just as a normal point you should never use Teflon tape on brass The reason for it since brass is a soft metal it will warp what it goes into so therefore you'll never have a tight fitting only use a small amount of dope and I mean a small amount once that dope gets inside and it's so screens on the water filters are the pressure reducers it messes them up and they get plugged real easily and it's pain in the butt to clean sometimes

    You need work gloves Wild Bill! I use MaxiCut ultra so I can grab hot pipes and flick the soldering snot when I'm burning. I don't like using a rag to wipe a snot off the joint.

    I have a small question. Why do techs install a purge station on each individual zone? Why not just have ballvalves on each zone and one drane with a ball valve right after it?

    • @thehvachacker
      @thehvachacker  2 года назад +3

      One benefit of a purge on each valve is one zone can be shut off and repaired while rest of boiler is in operation. I do both. When purging I don’t want to have to switch my hose around. Yet I also have repaired a frozen pipe that split. Keeping the rest of house on so nothing else can freeze. I like doing my reliefs in black pipe. I might overdo my installs. Yet I am always planning the next repair

      @@thehvachacker can you do that with one drain? Close the ball valves you don’t want to drain and drain the zone u want to work on. Then close the zone that is now drained and open the other zones back up. Just my 2 sense lol

      @@Keegeth i know what you are trying to say but purge hose cocks are before the ball valves so if you did what you are saying the boiler would not be isolated draw it on paper and you will see

      Lmk if I understood what you are saying

    • @thehvachacker
      @thehvachacker  2 года назад +1

      You can yet might have to purge. Since the boiler has to be opened to drain that one zone. It can take time to drain down a zone. I started using a shop vac to help pull water out of the one zone.

    I love and I hate when you have customers that want to be super nice to you like offering gifts and you know getting you drinks and other things and then one part of your mind you're like oh they're being nice to me that offering me a drink or the offer me some kind of gift for Christmas for a kid put on the other side of your mind you're thinking wait are they trying to give me something thinking that I'll give them a discount on the work but also at the same time they start to hover which then hinders your work or might make you forget something I don't mind teaching my customers but at the same time once they start asking me a million questions and tell me their life story while I'm dealing with something that can hurt me or I can mess up without concentrating that's annoying
