I'm convinced she is from another world. Her voice is just amazing. This band is fantastic. Their music is TIMELESS and so SOULFUL . I absolutely love them.
+Samantha Gonzalez Yes, Soulful! Their music is filled with so much emotion, which is why they're one of my favorite bands today. I love music that expresses deep soul and emotion, and I get that through her voice. When you can literally, physically feel the emotion oozing out of a piece, that's when you know stumbled upon well composed art. I just find their music so rich in soul, completely different than most of today's popular music.
I think this is one of the best live performances SNL has ever had. I remember when it aired, not knowing anything about the band, and just being blown away by it. Come back to this every now and then just to get the chills.
Exactly. One hundred percent same experience with me. Just fucking incredible and I just thought to myself before I saw ur comment that this was probably my all time favourite SNL performance ever.
This girl can sing her ass off. Im loving this live performance and live instruments. Their album even sounds the same! Shout out to AlabamaShakes making real music!
in black music, its called "breaking it down". a loud accent then the bottom falls out. it's used to feature a lead preparing to show-off or an instrument solo. it's common in like music like ballads 'cause its a psychological thaaang. mostly done live. the compression done making cd's mp3 and such its not as effective
douglas williams I love it but I rarely hear it in songs I listen to. I need to broaden my musical taste. Do you have examples of musicians or songs that do that?
This woman is a seismic event. Her voice and musicianship make the tectonic plates collide. There's a closet fragility in the command and challenge in her vocals that make us submit to her world view. This is an authentic woman whose gifts & collaborations will combine to heal us all.
I rarely see people comment on her guitar playing but she’s really great at pulling out every drop of emotion from those chords and neck bend vibrato. Plus I love the 3-pickup SG nod to Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
Yeah 100% her live guitar parts blow my mind. A lot of guitarists can sing, and a lot of guitarists can play those parts. But on this one and especially Future People she shows how she can do both at once. Getting that level of emotion out of your instrument and your vocals at the same time is unbelievably difficult and she makes it look easy.
@@agooglyminotaur169 this totally! The guitar parts aren’t really difficult but they’re constructed and played with genius musicality. I was young when my dad first played the sound and color album and it opened my eyes
Let's also appreciate her mic technique. Not only can she sing BUT she knows how to use the effing mic. If you're loud, step away, quiet and get closer. She's amazing.
YES!!! Passion. That is the word for it. How many artist, new artists, or band can you name with passion for the music, not just singing and then get on the billboard 100, but for the MUSIC??? Not many, but this band is one.
Meh. Compression and limiters can take care of that. She's just up there, feeling. Sound guy should know better. Not her job to limit or step back. She's no time for that. She's got soul to express.
The pipes on this beautiful talented woman, my lord! Brittany has more soul and passion for what she's doing than everyone in the business combined. I'm so glad Alabama Shakes are still killing it every chance they get. Hope to catch them on tour, I like supporting my favorite live acts with my money
Mad respect. Only musicians truly know the level of amazingness this is. Tone. Dynamics. Feel. Groove. I love songs that are simple and complex at the same time. This song consists of no more than 4 chords.
This is quite possibly the most incredible live performance by a band I have ever seen. The sound and intonation with her guitar and voice. That sound from a Gibson SG. It's just Amazing!!!
Interesting story about that guitar: the sound tech from David Letterman let her use it when they performed on his show. She loved it and wanted to buy it but he couldn't let it go as it belonged to someone else. She begged and pleaded. HE told her "if you ever end up playing on SNL *or* the Grammy's, I'll sell it to you" and then like 3 months later they were offered to play BOTH the grammies and SNL - and because of that, he didnt sell it to her, he just outright gave her the guitar. It's been with her ever since and is the main guitar she plays live. She says its her fav guitar ever and speaks to her more than any other.
@@SS-gx7tg That makes this performance that much more special. It really adds to the energy that makes this performance so amazing. Shows how good things can be when all the right pieces are put together. Amazing!!!
She reminds me so much of Etta James in this particular performance, but Brittany is definitely in a category of her own. Every sound and word she sings has so much power and soul. Then when you combine that with her raw rasp and tone, you can't help but get hooked in and feel each and every note. She's amazing!

FINALLY! REAL ROCK N ROLL MUSIC!!! I don't listen to the radio because of the garbage they play lately (i'm mostly a classic rock fan) but the Alabama Shakes have turned that around with their old soulful yet unique new sound. Thank you for bringing back good rock n roll music. I can't stop playing the album on repeat! LOVE
