Im a stage hand. Seen alot of bands, heard ALOT of music live. Ohana festival 2022 Brittany and her band came and played mid afternoon main stage. Until then i hadnt heard of her. Myself and 4 of my other stage hands who were on break enjoyed her set from the eagles nest backstage. I couldn't move, i couldn't speak. Literally took my soul for a ride unlike it had ever been on before. They played this song about halfway through their set and this one brought me to my knees! FOREVER A BRITTANY AND ALAMABA SHAKES FAN!!!

THE best concert I have ever been to was the Alabama Shakes, March 14, 2015 at the Chicago Theatre. Walked up to the window after enjoying St. Patrick's Day weekend, and found 2 tickets, 10 rows back, for $30 each! Regardless of the price, or amazing situation, the show was over-the-moon! One of the best memories of my life!
I was channel surfing years ago and spotted/heard the Shakes on a Saturday Night Live. A show I hadn't watched in years. Her voice captured my interest, and I started watching SNL again every week to insure I would catch the new bands!

I personally love the feral cat sounds that mince out of the much hated Ms. Joanna Newsom. Also, the female lead of Carolina Chocolate Drops (can't remember her name o- o) has a badass southern singin' voice a lot like Brittany. Good music NEEDS to xome back to the forefront. .... I wish to do inhuman things to radio devices, (depraved, horrible things,) even when I know they don't control the insufferable noise that is deemed popular and diarrhea'd out of their speakers. Nah, not gold. More like someone melted down a big chunk of rusty iron and added some honey to it. I mean that all in a good way. Gold is like some pop singer. This chick has some pipes and a roughness to her singing. Been listening to them most of the morning with my 1 year old daughter, dancing and singing along. Hoping I can get her started on the good stuff so she doesn't get into just the pop stuff that her friends are into when she gets older. I was listening to 60's 70's rock and old blues before I was a teenager and never got into most of the contemporary music of my youth. Fortunately I moved before high school and it was cool to like that music at the new school.

So much great music being made everyday. Sometimes it’s hard to find though. Best way I’ve found is listening to pandora and creating a channel on something you love and the related music helps to find real gems
It doesn't matter how many times ive heard this song over the years. It instantly gives me chills & makes me want to cry because Brittany Howard has always been beyond her years. She is unreal.
It's so amazing seeing her transformation thus far. She went from this, a shy woman with a great voice and soul, to a beast who isn't afraid to belt her amazing voice out. Go Brittany!
Bless my heart Bless my soul Didn't think I'd make it to 22 years old There must be someone up above sayin' Come on, Brittany You got to come on up You got to hold on Yeah, you got to hold on So, bless my heart and bless yours too I don't know where I'm gonna go I don't know what I'm gonna do Well, must be somebody up above sayin' Come on, Brittany You got to get back up You got to hold on Yeah, you got to hold on Yeah, you got to wait Yeah, you got to wait But, I don't wanna wait No, I don't wanna wait So, bless my heart Bless my mind I got so much I wanna do, I ain't got much time So, must be somebody up above sayin' Come on, baby girl You got to get back up You got to hold on Yeah, you got to hold on Yeah, you got to wait I don't wanna wait Well, I don't wanna wait No, I don't wanna wait You got to hold on
Thank you for the lyrics. This is the first A.S. song I've ever heard. Amazing! It hits me. I thought she was singing "you got to come up with me" instead of Brittany. To me it will always be you got got to come up with me. wonderful song!
This song is one of the few things getting me through this past year of my life. Chronic illness and pain wears you out, you got to hold on. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this song.
Kick ass band. The vocals are mesmerizing. The band is tight. They are a throwback to the days when music punched you right in the gut and made you listen!
This is the kind of music that I love. It's REAL people in a room together making real music from the soul. Not a bunch of computers doing all the "music". We need more if this.
This song brings tears to my eyes every time..whether it be happy tears or sad tears. I've battled addiction for years and am finally clean and getting myself back up and holding on.. Plus my name is Brittany and my dad calls me baby girl...what a small, beautiful world we live in
Honestly, the more I listen to this, the more convinced I am that the guitar riff playing during the chorus is my favorite riff of all time. It’s so goddamn beautiful and soulful.
I was hooked the first time I heard this song. I love everything about this song. It gives me hope and faith. This song is in my top 5. Music and lyric.

You saved my life, I cant express in words how grateful I am, I love u. Dont have the guts to tell u so I'll bury my emotions in the comment section lol
I am over 70yo. I am proud to say that when I heard this band back then I was so impressed I bought an outdated CD format recording just to get access to the sound on my old system.
Bless my heart, bless my soul. Didn't think I'd make it to 22 years old. There must be someone up above sayin', "Come on, Brittany, you got to come on up. You got to hold on... There must be somebody up above sayin', "Come on, Brittany, you got to come on now! You got to hold on... Hey, you got to hold on..." "Yeah! You got to wait! Yeah! You got to wait!" But I don't wanna wait! No, I don't wanna wait... So, bless my heart and bless my mind. I got so much to do, I ain't got much time So, must be someone up above saying, "Come on, girl! Yeah, you got to get back up! You got to hold on... Yeah, you got to hold on..." "Yeah! You got to wait!" I don't wanna wait! But I don't wanna wait! No, I don't wanna wait! You got to hold on... @@danielluna6757 I'm in the center of the USA - a friend told me about this group - I told him I was a huge fan of The Warning band - three girls from Monterrey! So... hello. Look them up.
As someone named Brittany who was in and out of foster care as a kid with super abusive parents. This song meant everything to me growing up. Thank you.
This song has gotten me through so serious crap in my life. I love this band and their sound. Her voice and lyrics are just amazing. Thank you for saving my life. Seriously.
I'm from Boston, Massachusetts and I remember hearing this for the first time on WAAF while at work and immediately got the chills and fell in love with the lyrics and emotion in her voice and the whole band's delivery of this song!!! Absolutely amazing!!!!! Thank you Alabama Shakes for such a beautiful, truthful and inspiring song!!!
I'm from Boston too and I grew up with WAAF and WBCN. So many great memories of listening to the radio in the car or at home in my room. I was so sad when WBCN closed them mad when WAAF closed too.
Completely understand no hard feeling nothing personal we all good. Kindness please this jams hella best best needed to be heard on the daily I think anyone else?😊
@@rockydennis4497 he rode around on his bike a lot for sure, what year did he pass if you don’t mind me asking? Was he still in Azusa when he did? I saw the movie about him when it came out, but it’s been so long ago now! And how great that you use his name as your handle! 😊
I'm almost 70 now, and a fan of the 70's music ... no pun intended. This is my kind of music. I heard this song, or parts of it in the movie "Dog" tonight. Just wow, what a voice, melody, guitar playing and song!!! I'd never heard of Brittany Howard or the Alabama Shakes. (guess I need to keep up more lol) But, I'm a big fan of both now, and look forward to listening to more of their music.
This song, these words, now more than ever, mean EVERYTHING!!! I literally play it every day, several times, just to mentally get myself to try and fight! What some humans do to each other, or hold back from others, is cruel and evil. So thank goodness for your songs and music!!!!
Been listening to this for a while, saw the video a few months ago. Can't believe how hard this chick rocks! Now that's feeling! Absolutely love it! Thumbs way up.
I heard this on Rage TV at about 6-7 am at the end of a huge night of partying, you know when you're feeling all the effects at once and you're emotionally fragile like you can't believe... I could tell by the drums and the intro that it was going to be something special, but I wasn't prepared for how utterly spellbound I was by the raw emotion of her voice and the quality of the musicians in the band. It was one of the few songs ever that genuinely blew my mind the first time I heard it. It left me speechless with my jaw on the floor. AMAZING.
Hey thanks for inspiring me. I'm 58, and every day I somehow live in this place, where I gotta hold on... and damn, I feel like the whole world looks at me funny, I just gotta hold on. Fighting many forms of character defects, addictions, and other issues designed to kill my spirit... the song lets me know what I gotta do. These comments listed here let me know I'm not alone. And what I gotta hold on to, that's the interesting part. I gotta hold on to something not so easily touched, not so easily seen. Sometimes it's hope, sometimes it's God, sometimes trust, and often times I don't know what, but the energy of it is captured in this song. C'mon Brittney... you gotta hold on, and if I can see you doin' it, holding on, I believe I can too. THANKS
I heard this song when I was like 13 for the first time and it caught me off guard. The older I get the more I fall in love with this song. So powerful and so much soul.
DAAAAAAMN!!! Never heard this band til tonight at work; asked shift lead who was playing and came right home and looked y'all up.....think this is my new favorite band!
Its interesting with music, for 12 years this tune never entered my life. Today On day 197 of sobriety it did... subscriber sent it to me. Perfect damn timing! Thank you MamaD and Alabama Shakes! I will hold on! 💪🏾🔥
Thank you to whoever wrote this song and to the ones who played it. One night I was sitting alone and scared in a really bad bad situation and I was praying so hard to God and asked for a sign from my ex fiance to please give me a sign that they he was with me and I would be saved and make it out alive. God's good grace and mercy was upon me and the radio powered on by itself and this song started to play I started crying and in that moment I knew I would be ok. Fast forward week later my Dad and aunt drove 8 hours straight and found me in the middle of nowhere they rescued me saved my life. I'll forever be grateful and never will I forget this beautiful song that played that night out of the blue. This is the whole truth my truth of God's love mercy and Grace. Never ever give up and always hold on. ❤
Just keep in mind. Those feelings of wanting to end it all..they are only temporary. They come and go. Be strong and hold out till those feelings change. And when.you are thinking clearly use this time to come up with positive changes that you can use next time you find yourself in that suicidal position again. I know its exhausting but ppl that love you would rather have you tired then dead. Dont be so hard on yourself. We all seem to be our own worst enemy.
Yeah I know who Billie Holiday is, and she's fantastic and I still like Brittany better. Psshh "Educate yourself" my ass. Try not to be such a party pooper

Absofuckinglutely. Unfettered
Bless my heart
Bless my soul
Didn't think I'd make it to 22 years old
There must be someone up above sayin'
Come on, Brittany
You got to come on up
You got to hold on
Yeah, you got to hold on
So, bless my heart and bless yours too
I don't know where I'm gonna go
I don't know what I'm gonna do
Well, must be somebody up above sayin'
Come on, Brittany
You got to get back up
You got to hold on
Yeah, you got to hold on
Yeah, you got to wait
Yeah, you got to wait
But, I don't wanna wait
No, I don't wanna wait
So, bless my heart
Bless my mind
I got so much I wanna do, I ain't got much time
So, must be somebody up above sayin'
Come on, baby girl
You got to get back up
You got to hold on
Yeah, you got to hold on
Yeah, you got to wait
I don't wanna wait
Well, I don't wanna wait
No, I don't wanna wait
You got to hold on
Thank you for the lyrics. This is the first A.S. song I've ever heard. Amazing! It hits me. I thought she was singing "you got to come up with me" instead of Brittany. To me it will always be you got got to come up with me. wonderful song!
Thank you :)
Thnks for this!!
People who post the lyrics to songs in the comments deserve a special place in Heaven for themselves.
Damn right!
Yea, that lead guitar and the bass and organ etc.... well the whole dang band is really very good!!
Yes! And that illustrates the difference between a real band and one where a bunch of different musicians back up a front person. This is a real band!
That's a good way to put it :)
That Gtr's So well mixed..actually e/thing is Perfect..Vox..beautufill.Awesome.@!@BAMA Shakes.!!
This is the kind of music that I love. It's REAL people in a room together making real music from the soul. Not a bunch of computers doing all the "music". We need more if this.
totally agree, this is about as real as you can get, cant stand the cookie cutter crap
whatever... ticket... costs.. 😢😢
💯

Life is Pain - Schopenhauer
This song NEVER gets old! 🙌🏼 An anthem of survival.
I am 65 and totally blown away, WOW, what an amazing performance ✌️
I am over 70yo. I am proud to say that when I heard this band back then I was so impressed I bought an outdated CD format recording just to get access to the sound on my old system.
She's got one of the best voices of this century!
female fronted Creedence Clearwater Revival with a modern southern rock edge. I fucking love it.

This song has gotten me through so serious crap in my life. I love this band and their sound. Her voice and lyrics are just amazing. Thank you for saving my life. Seriously.
Hello friend, how're you doing today?
OMG this is the best thing I've heard in years. Unreal
Feeling the Hold On Feeling. Can’t get enough. Can’t express the feeling but man you just got to hold on!!!❤❤
I'm from Boston, Massachusetts and I remember hearing this for the first time on WAAF while at work and immediately got the chills and fell in love with the lyrics and emotion in her voice and the whole band's delivery of this song!!!
She is such a badass... I love her voice
This song wakes my dried dead soul every time ⚡️⚡️⚡️❤!
Come back here every so often and still my favourite recording on RUclips. The Itunes recording just isn’t the same
Completely understand no hard feeling nothing personal we all good. Kindness please this jams hella best best needed to be heard on the daily I think anyone else?😊
This song is my prayer to America...May we heal in our division and bury our hate and lift up our love for one another!!!
That’s a beautiful prayer!
By the way I knew The Rocky Dennis from Azusa CA!!
@@coryd2668 my parents rode bikes with Rusty,he passed before I was born though!!
@@rockydennis4497 he rode around on his bike a lot for sure, what year did he pass if you don’t mind me asking? Was he still in Azusa when he did? I saw the movie about him when it came out, but it’s been so long ago now!
And how great that you use his name as your handle! 😊
Y E S!!!
I love her so much. The whole band kicks.
And it's live... No lip synch... Incredible... Damn I'm so sick of top 40 on the radio THIS IS REAL MUSIC!
lance miller indeed
This song, these words, now more than ever, mean EVERYTHING!!! I literally play it every day, several times, just to mentally get myself to try and fight! What some humans do to each other, or hold back from others, is cruel and evil. So thank goodness for your songs and music!!!!
Wow!!! Where have I been? This is my first encounter with this band. That woman wails!!! Awesome!!
Why am I 11 years late to the party...WTF.....I DONT WANNA WAIT
I am in love with Alabama Shakes! I can't get enough of this band!
I LOVE HER TOO....HOLD ON..
That voice gives me chills.. This is the how you perform music!
Been listening to this for a while, saw the video a few months ago. Can't believe how hard this chick rocks! Now that's feeling! Absolutely love it! Thumbs way up.
This song just speaks to the soul, it’s beautifully incredible
You know this band is authentic as heck when they have their music video be them playing the song live 😩😍
This tune is the positivity I need daily
Amazing. Love the sound this band makes. The voice is unbelievable.
AMAZING.
This took 12 years to get to me. I’m thankful. The wait is over. The future is today
THANKS
Hold On, Brother.
I'm so glad she decided to turn her story into this song-- hitting hard!! talent!!
Hello friend, how're you doing today?
@@williamrolls2865 creep.
I heard this song when I was like 13 for the first time and it caught me off guard. The older I get the more I fall in love with this song. So powerful and so much soul.
It caught me around 2015 keep going back great sounds.
DAAAAAAMN!!! Never heard this band til tonight at work; asked shift lead who was playing and came right home and looked y'all up.....think this is my new favorite band!
Man these are some freaking talented musicians. What a great band.
I’ve always loved this theme….it speaks of redemption and faith in one’s self 👍🏻🙏🏻
Found this song today. It's on repeat for the day. It just makes me feel sad and happy at the same time. 🖤❤
The vocals are obviously excellent, but the lead guitar work in absolutely awesome!
which one is the lead guitar?
Oh absolutely Great guitar player, greetings from Finland.
Oh the vocals are out of this world!
lead guitarist has so much catchy shit in a lot of their songs. So good
nobody, Nobody, can match the soul and emotion in brittany howards voice. fight me on this
Amen!
Nobody? Have you ever listened to late period Billie Holiday? With a statement like that, I don't think you have. Educate yourself.
Yeah I know who Billie Holiday is, and she's fantastic and I still like Brittany better. Psshh "Educate yourself" my ass. Try not to be such a party pooper
triumphrider611 lol, the original poster said “fight me on this” so the other person here was just arguing the claim.
A lot of musicians can match the emotion, the soul is another story.
This song is incredible and has been a beacon of light in some of the darkest times of my life.
What a voice!
So much TALENT, SOUL and POWER. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I absolutely love her voice. It's like pure honey! Her music moves me no matter what kind of mood I am in. This song motivates me so so much. I am battling several health issues right now. The medicine I need for 21 days cost 3,000.00 and insurance turned me down. So now I have to become a warrior❤ I just gotta ( HOLD ON )
