A good friend, judoka, wrestler and bouncer who was very short used morote gari twice in street confrontations that I witnessed, on both occasions the 'wind' was knocked out of the aggressors
Powerful when done right
thats the power of judo
As I have said before, allowing one arm leg grabs would be a good start.
I agree
There was a legitimate problem in 2008, but the powers that be panicked and threw the baby out with the bathwater. The problem of mindless leg grabbing and sprawling could have been solved by:
1. Raising the standard of Ippon
2. Penalizing stalling
3. A similar rule as described by Chadi/ Freestyle Judo, whereby you need to have a grip before going for a leg grab.
I'd love to see Kata Guruma and Te Guruma come back, but I'm not holding my breath...
Agreed
They will
@@Kwisatz-Chaderach Believe me I'd be thrilled if they came back, but I don't see an incentive for the IJF to do it.
Something I hated about Judo initially was how pedantic judoka are with their nomenclature. But having grown up wrestling in the United States it is so helpful to have such a universal and detailed naming system. It definitely ties back to judo's (honestly) more intellectual training approach.
Exactly
Damn chadi this one has been in my watch later for three years. Well worth coming back for
🙇🏻♂️
This video convinced me to sign up for Judo again. I stopped doing Judo at 15 after 6 years because almost all moves in this video are banned at that age in the Netherlands. But now that I'm older (23) and much stronger I feel like I can be competitive in this beautiful sport again.
Great news! I wish you all the best
Morote gari is one of my favorite moves... thank you for uploading a video on it brother
You're very welcome John
Great content as always. Thanks Chadi🙏
Thank you 🙇🏻♂️
Thank you for this and get well soon🙏.
Thank you 🙇🏻♂️
Very good
Thank you
Great video as always.
Hope you’re fine mate,take care
Thank you Luca
Very helpful and interesting. In Ohshima Sensei Shotokan Karate we have very similar takedowns as part of our nage waza - part of the curriculum for 4th dan test. For example, morote gari is called udewa and the technique is almost the same. Also sukui nage, we call it gyaku tsuchi or saktsuchi, a very similar technique. I enjoy very much watching your channel, thank you!
Once in a cross training camp we were practicing takedowns and grappling techniques. My training parter made me very effective two legs takedowns... I asked him how is he so proficient... He told me that he played rugby for many years...
Thank you very much
Could you do a video on British Judo. It's roots, the tachiwaza, newaza, is it well balanced, does have anything that's unique about it etc. I would I appreciate it a lot.
It's on my list
@@Chadi nice
Definitely agree that some of the morote gari examples are pretty atrocious and sukui nage version of the double leg (double leg version of sukui nage?) should be the standard in judo. Hope you're well.
Thank you Ryan
What are some good throws and takedowns that a 140lb man can execute well on heavier opponents of 180lb-215 lbs? Thanks bro love your videos and enthusiasm for judo💯👍🏽
Thank you! Seoi nage or seoi otoshi is good
I'd say the te guruma version of sukui nage would be called the high crotch in wrestling
Also yes
This is an interesting video. But i wish there was more information on actual technique how those moves are accomplished. Those moves would be very effective if executed. even ones that just put your opponent to the ground because when they are on the ground they are more vulnerable. But it seems to me that strength seems to still be large part of it. what do you do if an opponent is both heavier then you and more athletic than you and knows how to sprawl well?
Chadi, I know youve done bjj but have you tried wrestling? Do you like it? I know u prefer greco
I will try freestyle eventually when we can go back, i like Greco yes
Chadi make your way to Wigan and get some catch in. :)
Please do a Tokio Hirano video or if you have already please link me.
I love !!!!!!!!
🤙👌💪
👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you Maria🙇🏻♂️
Banned moves would back..
Hey do you have videos that explain the Japanese names your using.
I'll work on one soon
If you are tied up in MMA, those takedowns will look picturesque & score lots of points.
Agreed
@@Chadi UFC judges score based on how "good" a takedown looks. This particular one will give Dana White the goosebumps 😂
Also what forms of judo aloue the leg stuff I've heard of freestyle judo but not sure the difference between them?
Freestyle Judo is an offshoot devised by Steve Scott, basically allowing for the full variety of throws and rewarding big ippons.
What he said
Cool steve scott is my friend on facebook .
How do you become a sponsor and at what cost? I am close to landing a new well paid job. I don't have any merchandise per se, but I could print a limited edition of t-shirts with my face on it with the text "Henrik G - the woman's first choice". 😄
Freestyle judo nowadays. This is why the Olympic changed their rules. To many people got hurt
Does anyone know where I can find a list of all the banned, leg grip takedowns?
Morote gari
Kata guruma
Kuchiki taoshi
Kibisu gaeshi
Sukui nage
Obi otoshi
Obi tori gaeshi
@@Chadi Thank you sir!
Hey chadi , do you have cough or something ? I can hear that your voice has deepened for some reason .
I tested positive
@@Chadi In the 80's that meant something else entirely. Hope you get well soon tho my friend love the videos.
@@ChadiTake care of yourself man . And props to you for making videos in this condition . But don't push yourself .
@@sumitmandal7842 will do
It must be put back in not Olympics but other tourneys
🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
🙇🏻♂️
Next video let's do locks
Sure
❤
when one is a grappler, one can do Morote Gari without knowing the technique, is such a Basic throw in my opinion
And effective
te guruma is not considered a single leg?
It can be, but i showed that it can be done with both legs in competition, morote gari too
@@Chadi yes ofc bro. because i hate double legs 😂 te guruma, obi tori gaeshi (original version) are good
Theres no shooting in mma or grappling ?
There is
@@Chadi ok, im hope you heal soon of your disease. And keep with your videos.
@@JIUJITSUMAN22 I'm all better now thank you for your concern
Frankly there was no reason to remove this, other than to differentiate it from wrestling. The Olympic committee is just plain lazy.
Yes! To differentiate it you simply do it from kumi kata
@@Chadi Will do, and thank you.
Fireman carry once on shoulder spin 360 then slam if u balance permit no likly uki survive cant breakfalls after spin disoriented
Exactly
Banned projections with dragging by the legs. A loss for the sport! Cool video!
Thank you Rodrigo
Dear friend stop insulting judo by adopting BJJ terminology,ok?We have throws in judo not takedowns
.
Bjj terminology would actually be in portuguese.using english makes it acessible to non judoka or people that dont speak japanese
@@rubenrelvamoniz That s the point of judo terminology. Use the same names all over the world so everyone can understand it. It's just that it it is Japanese instead of English.
I use in English for those who don't do judo but are interested n order for them to understand
@@Chadi You are doing the right thing. People need explanations too. But there also is a place for a "common language". I see no contradiction.
malheureusement ces techniques sont interdites en judo depuis des annees
J'ai un sentiment fort que ces techniques seront autorisées en randori dans le futur
All these techniques equal death. That being said I don't understand the idealist mentality in judo when it comes to technique. If it works use it. Back rounded or not who cares. The goal is to win. I'm just talking competition, in the dojo that's entirely different.
I see your point Joe but the thing is rules should be put for 2 reasons, 1 safety and 2 to take the sport/art to the next level, rounded back and grabbing pants and running can seriously injure you either your back, or different contexts, like guillotines in bjj and knees to the face in MMA/streets and it looks absolutely horrendous and reflects poor judo even if it scores, it's important to have upper body control before going to the legs, first it's judo (kuzushi tsukuri and kake) and second it will result in a well controlled and executed throw, have you ever seen a sloppy te/kata guruma from the past?? No, why? Because they started by controlling and gripping the upper body, you only see sloppy doubles, if they came from the kumi kata they'd 100% far more efficient and way more picturesque and monumental.
@@Chadi Well said. Sound logic. No further argument. I concede.
