I would like to share something about the M45 Fan motor, your videos are the goto videos for the M45 so I think leave it here may let more people see it. Long story short: 1. the Fan motor on the M45 06 is the same as the Altima 06. In fact, I purchased the aftermarket one: TYC 630890 2. I bought the OEM Fan module 21493-4GA0A, and it looks different from the original one. Looks more metal shiny on the back, but it works fine. Long story begins: I noticed the fans are loud when I got the M45 in 2016 used. Never thought that was a problem. In 2019, I noticed a very bad burning plastic smell coming under the hood, very strong and lasted for a few days, I thought it was the alternator, but it works fine and never seems to have a problem. I inspected everything, but never found a problem. So... I just kept driving. Now I watched this video and go to check the fans, not only do they fully blast right at cold start, but the passenger fan is not spinning at all. I checked the resistance, it was open between any two of the four terminals (the driver side one has ~1ohm across each terminal). So the bad smell could very possibly be from the Fan motor! I saw black carbon inside the motor actually. The module drove the motors hard and finally killed one. Lucky I found this because of your video, thank you! :) I went ahead and replace the module and the passenger fan motor. The OEM motor is quite expensive, the Altima one looks very much the same, so I got one from Amazon for 30ish, and sure enough they are the same. It fits exactly, same plug, same rotation direction. The resistance is 2.x Ohm though, but it runs fine.
Thanks for sharing, I've pinned your comment. I'd be curious to see how the off-rated fan behaves long term, considering the electrical command signals through the module. I'd have to go back through the manual to calculate that...or just get a strobe light one day, buy the Altima fan, and compare the fan speed at operating temp.
Some time back someone challenged me on why I would bother replacing the module, since it was running anyway. Thankfully, it's a fail-safe design, and although it puts unnecessary work on the cooling system, your example touches on the more extreme end of what happens when the fan runs constantly. Excessive wear on components which leads to early failure. Thankfully you caught it in good time.
@@EdBwoy I feel the wind blowing by my hand, I cannot tell the difference. So I guess this seems good enough :) The engine never overheated even when the fan is down (well, the other one is blowing at full speed, though), so it is not that critical, I guess, just like another aftermarket fan.
Btw, I notice that when one fan is blowing at full speed, the engine temp is around 183F. Now the engine is running around 192-196F, slightly hotter, I guess healthier and more efficient.

And this is the nicer, edited version. Haha I do like sharing all the obstacles though, so I don't make a viewer think this is way easier than it really is. I mean, it has straightforward steps - just stubborn.
Touche' nice video. My '08 M45 fans stopped completely. I noticed in the relay compartment, you marked your relay cover box to specify front, mine has the factory FR arrow in it, jes saying.
On my 08 g35 the radiator fans will kick on and ramp up for a few seconds and turn off. 3 consecutive times. Then they will kick on again after a minute or so. I hope I dont have a issue with cooling. My car does not overheat it just sounds like the radiator fans are working just as hard with the a/c off as they do when they a/c is on. Its not even summer yet
hello I have the problem that the fans do not activate me by temperature I installed the new module and I had lunch from the air conditioning they do not activate the fans none and I changed everything and they still do not activate I do not know what else could be the relays are good what else should I do to activate the fans for me and if you can tell me which direction your fans are facing
Hey i did this and now the fan module works but now my car is overheating, it will be like normal but sometimes while idle my m45 will steadly rise in temp to 1 line under the max, both fans turn on when its at temp and theres def. Coolant in there still, but this barely happened after replacing the fan module, it will cool down when i increase speed tho
You really have good knowledge on these. I've got a 2014 Q50 the fans would only work on low so not enough air to cool the AC in slow traffic and idle. I replaced the module and it fixed the issue but a month later the fans don't work at all they only try to come on like for a second so they only pulse. Would it be the new module went bad too. The car starts to overheat really fast with no fans coming on
@@socal818P It turned out to be several things. It was a bad fan module and fan relay they went bad from the AC compressor having a broken solenoid switch.
@@francisogalvan1968 yeah mine starts to overheat when im in traffic stopped once i turn off the AC it’ll go back to normal temperature! Don’t know exactly where to start

Thank you for a great video, you weren’t lying about how hard those plugs are to get out when they been in for a long time especially. Wow. I have a infiniti Fx50S 2009 that I’ve had since 2013. I used a small pocket size flat head screw driver and a really big flat head to wedge between the plug and the housing unit. On the Fx50S only one bolt and the other side slides into a plastic bracket. I noticed the car got up to operating temperature much faster and fan only ran for maybe 30 seconds intervals as needed . Prior to fix fan constantly ran as soon as I started the car and the car much longer to get up operating temperature. My car is quiet again when idling So thanks again and keep up the great work. P.S. for the infiniti Fx50S do you have to take the whole door panel off to clean the master power window switch contacts driver’s side front?
Awesome, I am glad this video is staying valid for a lot of us even to this day. Some people never notice the fans running constantly nor the effects it has. I'll be doing this on my FX as well - they all use the same module, and I'll be buying OEM obviously.
Just purchaed 2008 Infiniti M45x. I had the Condonser, Compressor & Dryer replaced because my A/C system would blow very low cold air or at times hot air, the system holds freon but Compressor wouldnt come on from time to time... and my fans Stay on and will not turn off unless i turn off the car.... Can you please help??? I just watch the Fan Control Module video.... but i dont know if this is the problem since i have an 2008 and you said the recall was on 06-07 models. My last thought was thinking that my A/C system is acting up because it could be something going behind the dashboard since i have all new A/C parts.... what do you think????
If your fans are running constantly, then I would just go ahead and replace the fan control module. It might solve other issues, and even if it doesn't correct the AC issue, it will help with the longevity of your fan motors
Well my Friend.... You are the Man! I went and purchased a new Fan Control Modular, installed it today, crossed my fingers and like magic it corrected the running fan issue. Thank You the advice!!! Now, im still dealing with the A/C problem. With all New Compressor, Dryer and Condensor my A/C still blows hot air. The certified infiniti mechanic i used install my new A/C parts and used the Freon Machine to take out the old and add new freon into the system. Still no Cold A/C. So Ed, what do you think is my issue? All need parts install and yes the system has no links...... So what do you think is the issue???
Mechanic replaced this for me because my heat won't work. I suspected blockage in heater core but he said that wasnt likely the problem. After this module was replaced ( $180 diagnostics, parts, labor) I had heat for an entire 15 mins driving home from shop. Now it's back to being room temperature air at best. Did I just get duped? I'm very confused. I already bled the system using the air release valve, then using the spill free funnel while having my car at the height even before I went to the mechanic. I was hoping he would do a heater core flush but he instead diagnosed that this module was bad and replaced it for 180. Any thoughts suggestions I would appreciate very much!
The module is actually very cheap, but I suppose you had to pay for the mechanic's labor as well. The car needs to be troubleshot better. The problem might be inside the cabin
So not even when you turn the AC on? If both stop functioning, it could be an issue with the circuit - get another similar relay in the car to test. But yes, the module could fail "closed" in rare circumstances. If you can probe the fans with 12 volts you'll see if they are dead or not.
Mine has done this same thing today. When I started it I saw some smoke at the front and then the fans stopped working. I thought it was only the ac but found out later that neither were working when my gauge started climbing while sitting at a red light. If I send power and ground the fan works.
I replaced mine because it was running constantly. As soon as I replaced it, it turned on (I just got home). Then it turned off when I put the ac is on. Is this normal? Thanks
No, I bought it online. It’s new though. To add, my car overheated in a drive through after I installed the new module. Then it read normal temperature while driving. Only overheats when stopped. I have an 06 m45. My lower hose (the one connected to the thermostat) stays cool even after 10 minutes. My guess is that the original fan control module was bad since the fan turns on as soon as you start the car. And my thermostat is also stuck closed. And because of that, the new module isn’t turning the fan on at idle because the system isn't picking up a hot temperature. I haven’t done anything with the fan relay.
@@hisagisan at this point, it sounds safer to just reinstall your old one. Also, you can buy the OEM module online. People have had bad luck with non-Nissan modules. ruclips.net/video/pEytzb9WE4w/видео.html
Thanks. The old one is back on. And out of curiosity I took out my thermostat and did the boiling water test and it opened. My attention is now on the temperature sensor and fan relay. I have to do the coolant bleeding. I’m just thinking if it makes sense to change the temperature sensor before I add coolant. Same one in since 2006.
It could. I don't know the background of your issue, and why you had to change the thermostat, but I'll tell you this *OEM or don't bother* Seriously, when it comes to the thermostat, radiator cap, fan module etc...afternarket ones usually cause issues.
Thank you for this videos I've been wondering. Mine runs all the time with key on engine off; key acc goes fans off. I appreciate this videos :) (Ordering now)
EdBwoy I have to disagree with you on this one. The reason you don't want your fans blasting at all times is because it is unnecessary, loud, would wear out your fan motors a little quicker in the long run, and consumes some power from your charging system. With that being said, the reason the thermostat exists is so that it doesn't care what temperature the radiator is (unless too hot). What I mean is that when the engine is cold, the thermostat is closed and the cooling system is running in closed loop. This means the water pump is circulating coolant throughout the block and hearer core but the coolant is closed off to the radiator. When the coolant warms up enough to open the thermostat the coolant would then start flowing through the radiator as well (open loop) but if the coolant in the radiator cools off the thermostat the thermostat will close again. Thermostat is also not an on/off open/close device so it can open slightly or vastly depending on temperature. This ensures the engine is always maintained at correct operating temperature. Once the coolant in the block warms up to operating temperature, it will stay at operating temperature even if your radiator is submurged in ice water. The fans being on constantly would not affect the time it takes for the engine to warm up (unless ofcourse the thermostat is removed or is defective which is a whole different story).
No problem, we agree on the most basic thing, which is how the cooling system works (a story beyond the scope of this video), and that the fans running all the time is a nuisance... but we can agree to disagree on the fans cooling the engine. When some cars overheat, the electric fans keep running even after the car is shut off. Yes, the thermostat *could/should* be open as a result of temperature, but the water pump is not spinning, thus the cooling effect of the radiator is very insignificant at this point. *The car is thus basically depending on the rapid air movement of the fan to cool off the block* Someone in these comments said that his Benzes did that on a normal day. I am not saying it is the worst thing in the world, but trust me it did have an effect on how long this car got to temperature. I also tracked it on a previous SUV with a clutched direct-shaft fan. The noise level was no different on or off, but the time to warm up was affected. forums.nicoclub.com/no-your-engine-cooling-fans-are-not-supposed-to-run-all-the-time-t623040.html?sid=8b07fcd944f0c426b5280c03aa207f6c
My 06 m35 started smoking under the hood because it was idle parked for 5 minutes with a/c on and the temp gauge went to H. Liquid spewed under car and under hood. What could be the issue? Thanks
A cracked radiator most likely. It could also be a hose leak. I would add coolant, then take the covers off and runs the car again to trace the leak. Sometimes you can see it immediately without even starting the car, but sometimes it's only exposed under pressure
I prefer to get a genuine OEM unit. The aftermarket brands can be trippy sometimes. forums.nicoclub.com/idle-changed-to-1000-rpm-on-m35x-t625419.html#p6801331
I would say it's a worthy place to start. I'd also recommend buying the OEM unit instead of aftermarket, they're reasonably priced. forums.nicoclub.com/idle-changed-to-1000-rpm-on-m35x-t625419.html
Hello Ed I have a 2006 M45 car over heats when stopped and idling when driving normal temp fans where running non stop so I replace the fan module that got fixed ac on still over heats or heater is there a relay for fan speed seems like fans are not fast but they runs both Thermostat is good both houses top and bottom are hot car only has 85,000 miles
There is a relay, it's in the box near the washer fluid reservoir. And I believe I touched that relay in one of my videos - it's an on/off, not for speed. What sometimes happens is this: if you don't catch the bad fan module in time, the fans run all the time and as a result get damaged sooner. Although the fans still run, they are weak and don't pull enough air through the radiator when the car is not in motion. That is assuming everything else is working right, and the only issue you've ever had is the fan module problem.
I purchased a new fan module from Infiniti the recall expired in 2014 so it cost me $98 should I replace the relay ? ill keep a eye on the fans they do seem kinda slow what fans do you recommend for replacement
@@icewaterjay you can test out the relay by switching it out with a similar one from one of the other relay boxes and see if anything changes. If not, then I know you can get a fan assembly from Rockauto. I am not certain if there is a specific one people are buying.

@@mrmartin7131 Ahh, I see. Had you bought a colder thermostat for performance goals by chance? It's counterintuitive, but I've seen it happen before, and makes sense if you follow the logic of the cooling system. I think he would get intermittent thermostat codes as well.
Greetings, it means that when I turn on my infiniti m45 if the fans do not turn on, they are good, what would be the cause then so that the temperature is rising, in my case, I hope you can help me, thanks
What's up EdBwoy. Just updating you here. I've recently flushed my radiator and block and discovered that my thermostat housing didn't have the thermostat inside. Now that I've bought a new stat my car is running hot. The top radiator hose is very hot but the bottom hose is cold and the coolant reservoir is backing up. I'm thinking that my had gasket may be blown.
@@EdBwoy Yes I installed it. It's not OEM but opens at 180 degrees. I'm thinking the last mechanic left the stat out because the car continued to run hot. At that time I I had an OEM stat.
@@whuzup3 I recall now - car would take a long time to get to temperature Assuming both the old & new thermostat were oriented properly, how well does your radiator flow? I got a question I met a mechanic that told me he can tune my M45 and it will make it more efficient. I will gain hp and save gas ⛽️ 🤔 I didn’t think that would be possible. Any type of performance gain will kill my gas which is what I assumed. What do you think?
I suppose it depends on what software he's using. People usually save different tunes. One stock, an aggressive one, and sometimes a fuel economy one. A factory engine balances power, fuel economy and emissions. Most tuners don't care about emissions
Hey bro my radiator cracked on me. I ordered a new one and I figured since I’m under there change the thermostat and hoses. How many thermostat do I have on the 45 and can I reuse my gasket?
2 thermostats, and when you buy the OEM ones, they should come with gaskets. One is harder to reach ruclips.net/video/jEk_BLGQFGg/видео.html More info in the CO section of the service manual

But I also have an issue with my heater when I first turn on my car after it’s cold or been sitting for a few hours the heater doesn’t kick in until about after 5-10 minuets of the car being on. What can that be?
Hey I have a 2006 Infiniti M45 and all of a sudden my car been overheating last week 🤯🤯! So I checked my cooling fan and one of them comes on with the car the one on the left (when you are standing in front of the car ) . So I turned the ac on and the other fan never came on ! So I gave the fan a lil spin and it came on ! (Confusing right ) I let it run for a while and the car started to overheating again ! Could this be a cooling fan control module or just bad fans period ? (Note I only noticed it overheating when the ac on tho !)
The AC fan might be bad if you can jog it on but it can't stay up by itself. For Ss&Gs, you could flip the fan control module wires to see if it makes the wrong fan run. Usually the module fails safe (by keeping them running) but it could also fail in other ways
Hi watch all your videos. Very informative..hi have a issue with my m35x engine cooling fan. Once the engine is cold the fan doesn't comes on until it reaches it temperature. But unfortunately it keeps running and doesn't turn back off until the engine is off. Hi have change the relay same thing. Hi change the fan module using 3 different use one same thing. Thinking all 3 is bad hi go ahead purchase a new module from the dealer same thing hppn. It comes in at normal temperature but doesn't shut off when it suppose to
Usually, if the AC is on (like when using the defroster), the fans will keep running. Test this by turning your AC switch on or off and checking the engine bay for the cooling fan behavior

All 3 Of The Mercedes-Benz I Had Did This Mostly When I Turned The Car Off The Fan Would Run For At Least 5-10 Minutes After Parking The Vehicle But It Never Ran The Battery Down So I Didn't Care To Change The Fan Relay
That's interesting. What years and models were they? The only time I experienced that was with a cracked radiator that caused overheating. The fans kept running for obvious reasons. But, the Benz thing sort of makes sense. Liquid cooled cars get much hotter after the car has been turned off because there is a lot of retained heat that isn't being removed fast enough. Maybe the Benz was programmed to allow some cool off time?
What's up EdBwoy! I had the exact same problem. I replaced the entire fan assembly. I also wondered if the coolant temp sensor may have contributed to the fans staying on constantly. @@EdBwoy I believe the problem with my cooling system is the fact that my heater core is shot. I was thinking about bypassing it all together. I was quoted 1100-1700 for the repair.
@@whuzup3 have you tried backflushing it or running cleaning chemicals, or both? The way the syatem is set up, the heater core receives "spillover" heated coolant. A clogged heater core, like a bypassed one, shouldn't have any effect. Haha, damn straight! And practice makes perfect! We're getting there, I'll be looking to get one of those reach-anywhere tripods to make all kinds of jobs possible to record.
Definitely not ideal. The engine needs to come up to operating temp ASAP. Granted, the fans aren't cooling the coolant since the thermostat is still closed, but the fans are still cooling metal that is trying to warm up.

Touche' nice video. My '08 M45 fans stopped completely. I noticed in the relay compartment, you marked your relay cover box to specify front, mine has the factory FR arrow in it, jes saying.
Would this work on a 2003 m45?
On my 08 g35 the radiator fans will kick on and ramp up for a few seconds and turn off. 3 consecutive times. Then they will kick on again after a minute or so. I hope I dont have a issue with cooling. My car does not overheat it just sounds like the radiator fans are working just as hard with the a/c off as they do when they a/c is on. Its not even summer yet
Try the module. It's cheap & simple

Regarding the door panel, I hope to have that answer soon. I have a few things to move from the garage before the FX goes in.
i have infiniti g37 2008 coupe the fans always stay on will this be the problem.
Very likely. It's common for a lot of Nissan and Infiniti models.
It's cheap, give it a try
Hi thanks for the video. I have a Little question. When you started the engine after the replecement, both fans were stopped or Just one?
Both should be stopped at (cold) startup, but running the AC usually triggers the fan to turn on
@@EdBwoy Everything is clear now. Thanks
I know it has nothing to do with this particular vehicle but have you ever had to replace the waterpump on the Y34 M45

I started my car the fans spun out of control like yours did in the video then the fans died out. Does that mean I need another cooling fan module ?
I would say, yes.
So, do the fans ever turn on or will they stay off and cause the car to overheat?
I have this problem for a q50 2014
You think this will fix it
Yes, I strongly believe so.
Do yourself a favorance buy the OEM one
I got the opposite problem my cooling fans don’t turn on at all, any advice?
So not even when you turn the AC on?
If both stop functioning, it could be an issue with the circuit - get another similar relay in the car to test.
But yes, the module could fail "closed" in rare circumstances. If you can probe the fans with 12 volts you'll see if they are dead or not.
@@EdBwoy alrightty I’ll do that, thank you
Mine has done this same thing today.
Thanks
No, that doesn't sound right. Is that an OEM Nissan module?
I changed the thermostat on my m35 and still overheated when i turn on the ac.you think changing the module would fix the problem?
It could. I don't know the background of your issue, and why you had to change the thermostat, but I'll tell you this *OEM or don't bother*
Seriously, when it comes to the thermostat, radiator cap, fan module etc...afternarket ones usually cause issues.

Suspension control module computer infiniti m35 2006 do you know where is located
These cars don't typically have any suspension control modules. Not for the North American models.
*The car is thus basically depending on the rapid air movement of the fan to cool off the block*
Someone in these comments said that his Benzes did that on a normal day.
I am not saying it is the worst thing in the world, but trust me it did have an effect on how long this car got to temperature. I also tracked it on a previous SUV with a clutched direct-shaft fan. The noise level was no different on or off, but the time to warm up was affected.

You bought an original Nissan/Infiniti module for your replacement, right?

The AC fan might be bad if you can jog it on but it can't stay up by itself. For Ss&Gs, you could flip the fan control module wires to see if it makes the wrong fan run. Usually the module fails safe (by keeping them running) but it could also fail in other ways

The way the syatem is set up, the heater core receives "spillover" heated coolant. A clogged heater core, like a bypassed one, shouldn't have any effect.
