  • In 2019, footage of this kungfu guy was featured all over social media, but nobody knew who he was. But now, only on Fight Commentary Breakdowns, we reveal the name and find more matches from this star of the Kungfu world. His name is Li Shun Gen 李顺根 and he's tested JKD, Monkey, and Drunken-Kungfu. Let's see his awesome interpretations of Chinese martial arts. He seems like a funnier version of Qi La La. The two of them havee similar origins. They both started training in Kungfu after seeing it portrayed in media. Both also have only claimed to be hobbyists.

Something I think it's really worth discussing about that first match is how accurate his upkicks were when he fell or was knocked down. I think that would be a real asset to him in a street or MMA fight, though his lack of urgency in getting up afterwards might cost him if he doesn't break that habit.

I don’t know if he’s a master but he seems to have a legit understanding Drunken and Monkey tends to use similar tactics
The tumbling and falling is a big part of it often they’ll do what i would call big sacrifice aerial kicks. Aimed for that big ko like kyokushin wheel kicks than on the ground they can go for low leg kicks/sweeps than get up.
His swaying in drunken isn’t random he’s loading up each movement
Actually it’s really cool to see someone use applications rather the simply doing performance wushu

Loved the drunken boxing! And just affirm that it works - most pro fighters say this- don’t take it too seriously, have fun while fighting, because it loosens the body up.
    It’s always that equation :
    Body -mind - spirit
As soon as you’re taking it waaay to seriously, you tense up, and as a result you’re not as elastic, or light on the feet.

Can you make a tier list with martial arts styles? Since you know a lot about many kung fu styles your opinion would be of much value, since many of the tier lists in youtube don't cover chinese martial arts well. Most only cover wing chun, sometimes ninjutsu/bujinkan, but only to mock them.

I really enjoy your content. I appreciate your hard work and your stories of the origins of martial arts particularly kung fu styles such as Hung Gar. My friend used to show me some of what he learned back when I was in high school. He was my neighbor and one day, he took me to meet his Sifu YC Wong at his studio in SF. I heard amazing stories where students would hold horse stance until one incense stick would burn completely. Practice of the horse stance was performed on a boat under the streets that was about shoulder width apart wide. The average student would practice horse stance and nothing else for four years before even throwing a single punch. I wonder if you could share some history and perhaps check out
YC Wong using double chain whips! Absolutely wicked! This comment is the extent of my social media by the way….. I just don’t.✌🏻
Thank you very much! Looking forward to your next video!

    • @austinsavage

Cool story bruh. But practicing horse stance and nothing else for 4 years is a massive waste of time and effort. Its one of the things that Bruce Lee used to criticise about Chinese kungfu. Its the old school Chinese way and its neither scientific nor practical (this thinking applies to kitchen staff too). In that same 4 years, one would hv been a very competent MMA fighter/kickboxer while you’re still stuck on horse stance and not knowing how to throw a punch. By the same token, i was stuck just doing jabs for a month in my first ever muaythai gym. Coz of that i hv a very good jab, but i wasnt doing it for 4 years. Anyway thanks for sharing. Its always cool to discover old school practices even if i dont always agree with them

Interesting enough, it was my Muay Thai coach who recommended I learn to relax when striking, not my Kung Fu or Taekwondo coaches.
