Double up that jab. Any reasonably trained boxer can tell his punches don’t have any power. Just eat whatever you can’t parry or slip cut off the ring, get him in a corner and KO…. 😵💫😴
Yes. It looks like Li Shun Gen has boxing and BJJ experience. His defense has a lot of those elements. It is possible that he's experienced enough in sparring that it just evolved into that, but he seems to have an understanding of how boxers stalk. Overall, this guy is awesome. Me thinks he has lots of fight I.Q.
I believe the technique of winding the back fist and hitting with the front fist is an old Sugar Ray Leonard trick. So maybe he does know a little boxing.
This Kung fu guy seems to clearly have some boxing training. The way he switched to an unorthodox "Philly shell" is clearly a boxing stance. His Philly shell technique is quite solid actually.
I left another comment about the Kani Basami to your other reply. I will never forget that judo throw. I remember seeing a video of that crazy tournament injury that got the move banned.
Hmm... You know what? After watching a couple of these monkey-style kung fu vids from you, I just have this feeling in my jimmies that it has a potential to be viable. But, I'd also like to see it stress tested.
He has either taken boxing lessons or trained in a kung fu school that has practical sparring training that naturally leads to many similar movements to boxing, his hooks look like they actually have some pop on them when he sits down on them rather than leaping through the air
I like how you mentioned the clockwork like movement that most people from the hood do. It's legitimately a survival tactic that I compare to the way animals lull their aggressor into being passive. Being in the hood, I've had my fights with homies who do that. It's not easy but using the straight 1-2 at the perfect moment nullifies them and is the way to counter it. You'd be surprised how many people lose composure when getting tagged with a double jab
I know this is a spar, but that boxer doesnt use his legs well to apply pressure. He seems like a counter fighter i wanna see this against someone more aggressive that cuts off the ring instead of stalking
Put him in a ring with somebody who's not his friend what he's doing is a good technique if you're sparring inside of a ring with a friend of yours it's not really trying to hurt you I promise you my 20 years in Brazilian jiu jitsu he comes at me like that and I'm going to let him grab me however he wants to I will let him take my guard and I will tear him apart.. kung fu is good movie martial arts
my take on how to make kung fu works is learn fundamentals first; learn boxing, bjj, kickboxing. then supplement those with kung fu styles. since you have better fundamentals that other people, you will learn better.
I think the issue would be that you’d already have covered virtually every element of fighting between those. At that point you wouldn’t need anything supplemental.
@@elenchusi found wing chun to be an excellent add/on supplement to boxing. It added a lot of nice little tricks that translate real well to the streets. If I would’ve learned wing chun first, I’d be in deep kimchi against anyone who’s done any kind of sparring. But I agree with the poster. Learn muy tai, boxing, bjj, wrestling BEFORE a traditional martial art for self defense.
@@elenchus I personally think that there is benefit in learning traditional martial arts in supplementary to basic fundamentals, for example wing chun's chi sao or Silat's hand fighting as most kickboxing/boxing styles favors outfighting. an infighting supplements would be a great addition for matches. moreover, most styles that uses pressure points could be utilized in a way that mixes it with instrikes. it's just a matter of adaptation. a fast infighter who knows grappling, in the cage they would be terrifying
Unorthodox fighting techniques or unexpected etc.. can throw the opponent off both in A physical and mental Sense.. uncertainty and unpredictability are both tools in a toolbox of many other's
Philly shell is already in wing chun, for example. He doesn't need to 'improvise it' if he's a kung fu stylist. Scissor takedown and leg sweeps are illegal in UFC - worth mentioning.
Its always great to see our dear cheff in action, but the boxer didn't really gave him much of a fight, he was either too limited with his only boxing approach or too scared of Li Shun Gen's shenanigans. Nothing wrong with a friendly match but the boxer barely imposed any challenge imho.
kani basami destroyed one of my ankles IRL, but at the same time I saw Cung Le use it dozens of times with no injuries. I speculate that the flying crab scissors is possibly safer than the formal (although illegal, but since when has that stopped judo students from trying something out) judo version (the one that injured me for several months). In judo, you’re actually hanging onto them for the sweep and they’re carrying a lot of extra weight. I wonder if the flying version puts less stress on the knees and ankles because it lacks this component. Pure speculation, of course. I’ve never even done the flying version.
@@elenchus That's the one I learned from TKD I think. My thought was a lapel grip because it's easier to stick to someone than chase them down or wait. It does seem safe, idk if it's just because I'm oblivious to the danger. Kicked my sparring partner in the mouth accidentally trying it without the grip once though.
@@elenchusi looked up the kani basami since im only familiar with the capoeira tesouro. If you look at how Cung and capoeiristas throw the scissors takedown, they use one leg to trap both opponent legs and the other leg to apply force to both thighs of the opponent. Here’s an example of the tesouro: ruclips.net/video/yaGbb4R1Vto/видео.html So kani basami seems to put too much potential strain to just one knee. But non judo versions distribute the force more.
And the more i look into the judo kani basami: 蟹挟,the more im fascinated. I dont know what the word mean in Japanese, but the kanji it’s using means crab submission. So we call it scissor takedown now, but it’s base word uses the crab character. Also, i looked at the takedown by searching the kanji and there’s a version targeting both opponent legs too. (1/2)
See: ruclips.net/video/OR-HGHnarYc/видео.html The judoka puts the front leg on first, while capoeirista puts back leg behind opponent first. That seems to be the main difference.
