I recently bought a pre-owned 2019 Civic Si sedan (with 2,900 mi on odo) and love it!!! I can drive it sedately or rev the turbo for some speed and fun and still get 30 mpg!!! You're never too old to drive a fun car, I'm 53 and a dedicated manual transmission driver!!! Long live the manuals!!!
@Troy Kessinger I paid about 22k for the non-certified Si from a local Ford dealer. I've had I checked out by my local Honda dealer (while in for its first oil change) and was told everything is as it should be. I'm averaging about 32 now but I have a lot of short trips I make with it. I'm sure the mileage will increase as the motor gets broken in.
@@koolskater30 Yup, still got it. I'll probably keep it until they bring out the '22 Si's and trade it in. The only thing I've done is tire rotation and oil changes. Highly recommend the Si!!!
@@kobear66 Sweet thanks for the quick reply! Its hard to find long term owner reports so I appreciate hearing from an actual owner. Probably going to get the '20 or 19 early next year
Man I love reviews like these when the dude is excited to drive the car and shows energy while also informing us on the vehicle quite well very nice review man
Nathan, I like the exhaust tip and the spoiler. Me being (likely) a little more your senior the Honda si is a car I would buy and driver to feel a little younger. Thanks for sharing Tflcar and Nathan for the video review of this car.
Nothing mentioned about Honda’s current engine problem of Oil Dilution and Low Speed Pre-Ignition in their “Earth Dreams” engine family. Currently, there is not an engine oil that works yet, Regular 0w20/5w20 doesn’t work. With turbos, high pressure GDI fuel, and ever tighter engines, the oil is being diluted down by “blow-by” gasoline. They are currently engineering a new oil for these engines “GF6-B” I think it’s a 0w16.
SpringMtn Hiker Essentially, thats the solution for now, quality oil, oil change often. But later in 2020, “GF6-B” will be released from testing and be available in all the major brands. They say that’s the fix..
Kenley Carlton Honda fixed this “problem” over a year ago.. They use the same powertrain- 1.5 Turbo in their flagship CR V, Accord and Civic Touring. Thanks for coming out
The oil dilution is related to the L15's warm up procedure, not the oil. Specifically the cold start procedure runs rich as normal in an attempt to enhance catalytic converter efficiency (trying to get a high EGT faster). But this particular engine has a much longer warm up time, and the cold cylinder walls condenses the unburnt vapor (as it is running rich) where it seeps past the rings. The key indicator that this is the problem is that people only started noticing issues in cold weather conditions and taking short drives that don't let the engine get to operating. If it were strictly a blow by issue, then it would happen regardless of outside temperatures. As for me, I own an Si that did get noticeable oil dilution. I got all the symptoms and did notice how it got worse when I took frequent short trips vs driving it a little longer to warm it up and vaporize any gas in the crank case....More importantly the software update that Honda issued was effective in fixing it. From my observation, it seems the software update simply throws out the old warm up trim..It runs much leaner on cold start, and "warm up mode" is MUCH shorter (typically 1-2min at -15C). I haven't been able to detect oil dilution since even after reverting to my shorter commute. As for LSPI...the problem is in its name. If don't you put your engine at high load while at low rpm it won't happen. That's a complicated way of saying: DOWNSHIFT if you want to accelerate (it only comes in a manual anyways, there's no computer that could even induce this problem). To me having LSPI because you are flooring it at 2000rpm, seems more like driver error than an actual mechanical issue...Yes marketing may say "you get peak torque at 2100rpm", but no person in their right mind would lug their engine that badly.
I have an 18 and I was the same way. I was shopping used gt Mustangs and used audi s8's and someone talked me into giving one a chance. It's obviously stock not super fast but it handles great and makes me laugh every time I drive it. It's worth the test drive. I definitely caught similar design cues when I drove it after having driven the NSX a few times.
People dont realise this but if your trying the civic si there are two cars that are better....soon to be three. The Elantra GT N line is an amazing car, its faster than the civic si, and it has incredible handling i mean incredible. Its almost on the veloster N level. I can get one with the manual in canada starting at 28 k. The Si starts at 30999. Thats 3 grand difference. The 1.6T is a much better motor than the 1.5T. The Veloster R spec in the USA or just the 1.6T its called in canada can hit 60 in 5.9-6 secomds flat. Thise start here at 27 grand and 500 bucks for the lightweight 18 inch wheels with pilot sport 4 tires. Also the new 2021 elantra gt and elantra are coming out both with N line treatment. Might get the 2.0T base engine from the USA at 250 hp. The full veloster N is either getting a 2.0T with a bunp in power or getting the 2.5T with 304 PS and 311 ft lbs. The new elantra N sedan is coming too. Civic better up their game because the koreans are coming
The thing about the Si is always the price to fun ratio. I love my '17, and, even though I'm in my 50's, I don't care about the lack of volume knob. The steering wheel adjuster works great, and I actually prefer it. Also, it really is fun to drive in any situation.
@@BobO-zo2bi you might want to reevaluate your opinion on Hyundai's. Their not the same cars from 10years ago(which were shit) hell even 5years ago. They stole(hired) the guy who made all of BMW's "M" Performance line cars. They had him make up all the "N" line Hyundai cars like the Veloster and i30. They also hired the same guy who designed all the Audi cars (notice a resemblance in the two car companies front bumpers much?). Hyundai has the *best* warranty in America period. 10yr/100k powertrain, 7yr UNLIMITED miles anti perforation, 5yr UNLIMITED miles Roadside Assistance(big plus here), and 5yr/60k mile new car warranty. No other car company does this Period. Why would a company that supposedly is a "beater" and falls apart have such a unbelievable warranty on It. I'm sorry to come off rude but you sound like a Honda fan boy who doesn't actually know any factual information and just says what he feels. Hondas have fell off in reliability over the years trust me, they are not what they used to be. Don't believe me right? Do yourself a favor and Google "Top 10 most reliable car brands" and tell me what you see. Oh what's that's? Hyundai and Kia are 2nd and 3rd meanwhile wheres Honda? Not beating them two that's for sure. Honestly I thought the same as you about Hyundai's until I was inside a new one and let me tell you they have made huge strides. Ive seen some comments in here that got it right. "Most fun car to have under 30k" should be the Hyundai Veloster "N". I guarantee you if he test drove one back to back he would be singing another tune.
You sold me. LOL Not hard to do with Honda. I had an Accord LX 5 speed Hatchback in the 80's. And it was a lot of fun. And they have always been a go to fun/commuter that is not over the top in price. Thanks Nathan and Alex for showing people this car.
I have a 92 SI hatch with 456 thousand kms on it,springs are shot so I bottom out lots but it still runs great even with low compression on 3 cylinders. The only time it’s ever failed to start was when the original fuel pump crapped out a couple months ago at 449 thousand, cheap and easy as pie fix tho. I like this civic si as it doesn’t have the fake vents at the back so it looks cleaner and less boy racerish
I own a 2017 and a freaking love driving the thing every day. I just get in it and drive for fun. The clutch setup is strange and there isn’t much feel to it. You learn to deal with it, but it’s very inconsistent day to day. If it’s cold it feels different, if you adjust your seat it feels different, if the A/C is blasting on a hot summer day it feels different, etc... He said this car is well put together and doesn’t have rattles or noises. Brand new this is true, but as you put some miles on it and break some things in, you’ll notice lots of strange noises. You start modifying (which you will with this car if you buy it) and tearing apart plastic pieces and clips, you’ll start hearing some rattles for sure. The quality is great, but Honda made plenty of sacrifices to meet that 25k price point. The car pulls effortlessly at highway speeds above 3500 RPM. It’ll surprise cars with engines twice as big from highway rolls or aggressive passing maneuvers.
The clutch inconsistencies is annoying, but pretty understandable. First off, it's a typical Honda hydro clutch, and in the cold the fluid tends to get thicker. I've heard that taking off the CDV may help with this as a side effect, but I just learned to deal with it. The AC clutch feel is actually just because it's a small engine. Had the same issues with a B16 Honda a few years ago. Honda small displacement engines just don't have ANY torque at low rpm, so even the compressor is putting noticeable load on the engine.
Outstanding car! Have owned many high-end German cars, but this is so much more fun. Have had a 20 for the last four weeks (now with 2k miles). Only 2k more than the new Si I purchased in 06. Amazing! A few areas for improvement include a head unit screen that scratches very easy - Honda , see Apple, maybe they will show you how to buy/install gorilla glass. None of my other vehicles have ever scratched-I am very careful. No auto dimming rearview or Homelink, thats just being short sighted. The sub is terrible. Had to install a JL Audio sub in the trunk. Final Honda quirk is lack of LED brake and turn signals (everything else outside is LED)- that is so cheap! Switched out all of the interior and brake/turns to LED. Still, overall a blast to drive.
Anonymous i don't think you understood. The SI comes in a coupe and sedan but we want it also in a hatchback. The SI has active suspension, limited slip diff and other features and is in my price range but it is not avail in a hatch.
I have the 2018 Si Sedan, and at nearly two years in, I still love it! I required a sporty manual transmission vehicle with enough storage to put some specific items in, including a foldable 6' table, chair, luggage, and more at the same time, which kicked out a number of competitors, including the Ford Focus ST which I loved testing and the VW GTI. My choice came down to the Si and the Subaru WRX, and the Si was far less expensive, but is a much better daily driver, as the WRX HAS TO BE driven hard. The added bonus of fuel efficiency, which gives me consistent highway MPG over 40 MPG (highest tank, hand calculated, is 45MPG) and speed limits are a suggestion to me. We have too much in common now, Civic Si, Steelers (by birthright) and Rush (seen 5 tours).
My thoughts exactly. And what about the 2.0T Accord Sport? Faster and has a lot more utility. I may be getting into left field here, but how about the new Escapes? The 2.0EB with AWD does 0-60 in < 6sec and is *faster* than the SI in the 1/4th mile. Can pick up new SELs equipped with that powertrain for around $27k. Even if you don't like that particular example, there's just no way the Civic SI is the most fun for sub-$30k.
Being fast in a straight line is great and all. But handling is where it's at. Is it the most fun under 30k? Nah, not even close. But it's one of the best all-rounders for under 30k. Decent handle and acceleration. Decent fuel economy and it's fairly practical.
smith jones Accord 2.0T costs 25% more than the Si, weighs more, and doesn’t come with an LSD. Though the power to weight ratio on the Accord is better, from a driving perspective that’s all it has going for it.
#1 Ditch the hdmi port exhaust I went with an AFE carbon fiber tipped exhaust, not too loud but great sound! Coupe looks way better especially in white with dark tint. Also added clear side markers love the Si! Got mine for 24000$ Gets 40 mpg hwy great car with power and economy!
Fun review Nathan!! H finally decided to give the Si a big power boost and a more noticeable / unique (and better) look. The blackout treatment goes a long way to make the wide bar font end less ‘grunt’. Enjoying the car makes the review go BIG!! Do a 0-60 against a mid performance variant of the Hyundai. Do a competition with 4 of the staff and Paul doing a lap of IMI to see who can keep close to the pro-driver. Sure to be informative, if not bucket loads of fun!!
Even though the changes are subtle, they are significant. The LED headlights are a huge improvement and make the car look more sleek and higher end. The new rims are a nice design. The painted inserts in the fake front opening gives it a bit more character. This is definitely a good candidate for everyday sports car.
Love your video's Nathan. You always tell it like it is and usually in a comical way. Tell Roman to put you on more car reviews lol. love the Civics. Thanks again Nathan and TFL for another great review
It is a great car. I love my 2020 si coupe. Best of both worlds 40mpg hwy and low end power when needed. It is not a typeR and would take a lot of money and warranty voiding to get it that fast. I just added a AFE carbon fiber tipped cat back exhandstock k&n air filter. I live in CA and the noise and smog rules are very tight. Cops hate modified Hondas! Also have custom windshield cover, tinted windows, black locking lug nuts and clear side markers with leds. This is the best generation of Honda Civics ever, go 10 gen!
Over a Veloster N for just 2k more? Like that there is no engine cover. Did they solve the rev hang issue from when this gen began? The changes to the front and rear “cheese grater” fake vents make it much more attractive in my opinion.
I think the engineers designed it to have rev hang for emissions purposes. That said, they haven’t “fixed” the rev hang in the 2020 model either. Edit: also it seems people have gotten around the rev hang issue with a tune
Honda has built a name for itself. Sure some people might pick a hyundai over a Honda but not people that value their money or don't have as much to waste
@@eagle25311 Have as much to waste? You must not realize Honda has been having problems left and right and not what they used to be bud. Honestly I'd bet a paycheck you own an Si and trying to justify your purchase. If you enjoy it that's all that matters, but putting down another car company to justify your decision is wrong. Do yourself a favor and Google "top 10 most reliable car brands". Ohhh wheres Honda? Not at the top anymore that's for sure. And would ya look at that who is but Hyundai, Genesis, and Kia. All 3 of these car brand have stepped up in strides lately. I can go on and on how Honda is truly shit now man. Oil dilution problems, small turbo engines that eventually will blow, crv having to have timing replaced at 40k, gas in the oil creating a nasty smell in Cabin? Shall I go on? If you haven't noticed Honda isn't what they used to be your either a fan boy or just Never do any actually homework and reading. ln gonna go with a little of both. Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are both doing really well, better than Honda. Go to a Hyundai dealership and test a drive a Veloster N and tell me it's not an incredible car for the money and much better car in every way than an Si(it's not even on it's level and compared to a type r actually that's 10k more lol). Go sit in and test drive a g70 or 80 and tell me the interior isn't leaps better than any Honda "luxury" sedan. Seeing what Hondas response was if they fixed known issues like Rev hang and Oil dilution for 2020 alone was utter ridiculous. "No we did not fix rev hang". "We release a software upgrade that helps but doesn't cure the Oil problem". Lol like what? And don't sit there and tell me "well I haven't ran into any problems". Understand this issue *still* has not been fixed and their currently trying a special type of oil for it to work correctly. So your slowly killing that engine. Lol if that isn't enough to steer clear Idk what is. Idk why I even try this prob goes in one ear and out the other. However if you've done some actually investigating and factual reading, other than spewing out shit other people say or catches on. You would have known it was Hyundai's agenda and plan all along to at first sell us shitty cheap beater cars. See they new they didn't have a following here In America. So when they started offering their cars here in the early 80s, they were made cheap and just to get people from point a to b. They did this for decades while Americans bought Alot of them(look on the road there are tons of Hyundai's out there) bc they were so cheap. Until they made enough money to make much higher quality and luxury care at an affordable price. Which is the current time were in. Bet you didn't know this either. New Hyundai's have more German roots and feel to them than anything really. Why? They brought over and hired the guy who created all the BMW "M" performance cars to create Hyundai's "N" line of cars. They also hired the guy who designed all the Audi cars to design their Hyundai cars. On top of that they have a factory down the road from the Nurburgring track in Germany. Where they test and tune their cars before final production is rolled out. So they have more a German look and feel to them more than anything. Take the front badge off any new Hyundai, looks like an Audi front grill right? I can keep going but hopefully I provided enough information for you to realize how ignorant that comment was of yours about Hyundai, I'm sorry. Next time do your homework before looking like a fool please. I'm not trying to be rude here. I work construction (Union Local 40 Manhattan Ironworker) and drive a commute around 90mi a day. I'd take a Hyundai over Honda at this given current time. This is just my opinion but the new Civics I don't like the look of one bit. HDMI exhaust, ugly vents that serve no purpose and shitty infotainment system. Take me back to the older naturally asperated Si's. Yea to me Hondas been dead for quite sometime since getting rid of prelude, s2000 and the Acuras as well. Sad. However this is simply my opinion and everyone likes what they like, that's all that should matter.
I'm a Honda "fanboi" from the 90's. I just can't forgive Honda for killing the Prelude, Integra and S2000, and generally ruining the majority of the Acura line (I owned a Legend, a few Integras and a Vigor back in the day) I agree, Honda is kind of making a "comeback", the CTR, this Si and the NSX shows they are trying to give the more loyal Honda fans something to enjoy. I considered the Si when it first came out (2017?) but ended up with a new GTI instead. Now that FWD cars have "REAL" power compared to the 90's, there's an evil side....traction loss. In WA state it is a big deal as the weather can be bad 50% of the time or more. I now own a Q60 AWD and wouldn't go back to Honda unless they come out with an AWD sporty car like the Golf R. I love the AWD traction, it's a point-and-shoot deal in any weather. I would also like to give Toyota props for turning things around. In fact, I would argue that Toyota is doing a better job than Honda in turning around. We looked at the Civic Hatchback Sport, and ended up with a 2020 Corolla Hatchback in Blue Flame for my wife's daily driver.
Jason W If yours the Golf R or GTI? I do like the interior and ride/handling of the Corolla. its very luxurious similar to Lexus because they made the frame very solid. Also I wanted a Golf myself but two people beat me to the two local 2015 TDI Golf's at my VW dealer. The one year GTI also sold quickly. i wound up with Sport Hatchback and it had too much road noise before I fixed it. $20,800
@@jamesmedina2062 I had leased a 2016 GTI. An amazing car, but it was in the shop often. I really wanted my wife to buy a Sport Hatchback, but it didn't resonate with her. I am very happy that Honda and Toyota are bringing back hatches, now if they'd bring back 2 door hatches that'd be even better!
Jason W You can't go wrong to daily drive either one and the Toyota will be more breezy to maintain. I'm a little envious. I was not a fan of the audio but overall love the interior. On the Civic with 17 inch wheels and low profile 40 series tires, the Sport Hb is crazier and fun on freeway driving but the engine has less grunt from a stop than others. I built my exhaust and it now breathes well above 3k to redline but this is not needed usually. If my car is often overkill powerwise can you imagine the Type R? That is serious racehorse overkill! Btw we had two Integras and three Legends, then later the lettered cars: MDX, CL, TL, newer TL, TLX. Around town the Legends were king because of the easy torque of the V6. The Integras handled like a dream but were pretty rough over bumps. Its funny you and I both went VW as well. I owned 3 Passats, never my dream car: GTI. I fear timing issues and carbon, but I wish I had the comfort. In Civics only the Type R has great seats rivaling Golf
The Hyundai Elantra sport is a good competition for this vehicle, sure the looks on the 19/20 are not for everyone but that warranty is hard to pass up, also most people would want a auto and that DCT is great in the Elantra sport. I have driven both in the past month and man I love both of these models
I believe with low miles in the future this exact car in coupe manual red form will be pretty collectible. I want one now but my dealers say they are getting as hard to get as the type R is.
Guys I just bought this car about 4 months ago, and I can confirm it was by far the best investment ever. I highly recommend getting one of these! I’ve never gotten so many compliments by random strangers until I bought this car 😎
Noah Lara or over inflated dyno. Trap speed = average power through the quarter mile. The new Si has virtually the same trap speed as older Si with similar power numbers.
Indeed Marc. First time I see somebody else mention that. If the rear of the sedan version had the rear of the coupe, I'd definitely get the sedan. Agreed about the HDMI exhaust too. But people have been replacing that with regular tips. Look around on youtube; some installed quad exhaust tips, hahaha!
It's called the Type R. It has the 2.0T from the Accord with a bigger turbo and stronger pistons I think. Makes round about 306 Horsepower. Has LSD and all the other Honda sport stuff.
Must convince me it can beat the GTI S. More torque. More HP. For me, about 34-35 mpg, consistently. ('16 model). Only thing my GTI lacks is an electronically adjustable suspension. The only big plus for me with the Si would be if it's shorter. I want to haul it around to tackle the best driving roads in the country.
Douglas Tong Exactly! Any civic in its current body style still makes you look like “a 20 year old wannabe”. I’d say they need to back to back this si against the gti and I bet the dialog would be different.
@@johnbcardin Yes, and the GTI is about as stealthy as you can get, too. I don't mind not being stared at. I just like that it goes, turns, and stops pretty flawlessly (with a nice exhaust note, too.)
I owned a '15 GTI (no LSD), now in a 2020 Si. GTI felt like it had more grunt from a standstill, but from a roll the power is basically the same. Much "sportier" seating position in the SI, shift pattern is tighter and throws are shorter, and the close ratio transmission in the SI is way more fun. Top of 2nd in the GTI was 70mph, in the SI 2nd tops out around 55. If I had both available and I was heading for so e Twisties, I would take the Si. If I already owned one or the other, the difference would not be enough to make me switch. But major mechanical issues with the GTI out of warranty was enough to make me switch 👍
@@st4xor Thanks for the comparison. I'll really have to take a drive and see. I, too, had a weird whine develop in the transmission. Luckily, I only had 36k miles on the car, and it was fixed under warranty.. Everything still worked fine with the noise, but it get louder with speed. The dealer took over a month to try to figure it out. Actually, they said it was VW that tried to diagnose the problem, even sending in an engineer from the factory. Ultimately, I got a new 6 speed. Everything else had been great. (I noticed VW dropped the warranty from 5/60 to 4/48 for 2020.) Have fun in your Si!
The 158 hp is only in a non turbo which is only in the base trim .every other car is basically 175 hp 165 torque.the si is 26/36. A 1.5 with cvt is about 32/42. The 2019 si was 28/38 but it’s mpg was lowered for shorter gear ratios.
Oh come on. I like the Civic SI, but look at AutoTrader. You can get 2.0T Accord Sports for ~$27-28k. The Civic SI barely makes the top-10 list of "fun under $30k". There are literally 10+ other cars I could mention, but one other example I'll give is that the MK8 will be arriving by the end of the year, according to reports I've read. Should be a little under $30k and will be better in every way, except not available as a 2-door anymore.
@@mohamedalkaboom Not only have I read the pertinent reviews, I've driven them. I don't dispute that the SI might be more fun on a tight track. What percentage of new SI buyers track their cars? Is it even 1%? Seriously doubt it. Darting from stoplight to stoplight is the overwhelmingly typical use case, and for that particular use case, Accord Sport 2.0T > Civic SI. And when you're not darting around city streets, the Accord is much more useful. Don't have to ask other people to help you move certain bulky items like large TVs. Disclaimer; The 4-door SI would probably split the difference in terms of utility.
I like to mow accords down around corners but really the si is fun handling even daily driving lol. Utility? That's what my truck is for. The si is just for my 80 mile per day commute to work
if you want just as much if not more fun, with the added bonus of rear wheel drive and no rear seats - Mazda Miata. hey, my last two cars were a Honda CRX and Acura RSX, so in the civic family; i get it, great cars, but the Miata is a blast, and with beautiful unique styling.
The one I crave after if the 2.0L 6MT Coupe. Currently have 2.0L 6MT Sedan and I get better consumption then Si's posted rate. Down here in Toronto, the natural aspirated engine do well. For nasty city driving the regular motor shines while the tiny turbo would need to eat humble pie.
@@garykang1948 Morning rush traffic going away from core (dundas ramp to steels on dvp) which is +8min delay I can get 6.0L/100km. However, it requires hyper-milling...using the engine to slow down and giving yourself space. Easy to do, just down shift by the 10th. While coasting, if 40km/hr down-shift to 4th gear, once you get down to 30km/hr downshift into 3rd gear...etc (coasting means your in gear without using gas). At below 20km/hr it's too slow to take advantage of engine deactivation..so when going that slow, do whats comfortable. The car will pull on it's own 15km/hr in 3rd gear, 10km/hr in 2nd gear, 6km/hr in 1st gear without any need for gas. So in really heavy traffic, i'm driving only with my left feet..since you can control your speed depending on which gear you're in (need to shift slow to make it smooth)... btw, I only use shell premium, I find the car pulls better at ultra low rpm (below 1000rpm) with that blend.
This car also comes with a limited slip differential...I'm not sure what other manufacturer provides that at this price. They've been doing that for years.
You’re so right about the handbrake I wind up always putting it on by mistake because my hand touches it .. It’s definitely annoying my hand always puts it on but otherwise I love my car I have the 2020 automatic sports version
Depends on your needs. I only have it for daily commuting so I got the coupe cause I like the looks better. If you carry people all the time then obviously get the 4 door
I have a 2020 coupe Si and hands down, the best short throw shifter I've ever handled. I just didn't like the HDMI exhaust and the waffle design of the rear.
If you guys were to get a long term test civic (or even if you guys didn't), considering that the civic's headlights got a "Poor" raiting from IIHS. I'd LOVE to see you guys explore mods to improve the Civic's headlights. I have to say I'm a little biased as I have a 2017 Civic with the turbo charged inline 4 (and it's still a fun car to drive).
Excellent review! I bought the 4 door version of the 2020 Si and am enjoying the heck out of it every day. Interestingly enough, I traded a 2019 Mustang GT and NOT sorry that I made the trade. This car is a hoot in the twisties and plenty of get up and go when you want!
They really screwed up the look of the Civic. Those fake vents!!🤮 Also hate that HDMI looking exhaust pipe exit!!! Sure it probably drives nice, but it’s ugly!!! They responded by adding back the volume knob, now fix some of these other design screw ups!! I use to own a 97 Prelude, it was a sweet ride.
Yes, all 2019 and newer models have a software fix implemented at the factory that improves this issue. It does not completely eliminate the possibility of oil dilution if the owner continuously ignores general advice for GDI engines.
Honda dealers charge an average of 10- 12% markup on the Type R. Sad to say that 2020 is the last year for the coup. Sales of coups accounted for only 6% of Civic sales.
I wonder why everyone raves about the manual shifters in the Civics, but no such raves for the Accord shifters? Is there an engineering/mechanical reason you couldn't put the better shifter in the bigger car? Seems like "economies of scale" would make this a smart move for Honda too.
With the cars that it competes in the same class it is down on HP and Tq. to most of them and after test driving some i prefer the VW GLI or GTI just something that feels different and feels more refined and upscale and also To me the style is better. Honda needs to fix the rear section it looks so weird and out there and wont look good in a few years. Id spend the extra for a GTI over the Si personally.
This vs GTI vs Veloster Turbo vs civic sport hatchback vs Mazda 3 hatch please!!! :) looking to by a small fun manual commuter that could fit 1-2 kids occasionally. Would love to hear y’all thoughts!
Honda's LaneWatch only covers the passenger-side blind spot. Why couldn't Honda've put another camera on the driver-side? Cost cutting? It's been done most recently in Kia/Hyundai's "blind view monitor" where the display in the instrument cluster shows both blind-spots depending on L or R-turn signaling. So disappointing for Honda, at least after several years they've started finally to include radar blind-spot monitoring, however it's not offered at all on their smaller cars Civic, Insight, Fit, HRV...🤦🏻♀️
Nice review. I have the sport hatch manual. Love that car too. Will be trading up to the SI soon.

I paid 23k new for my si coupe
Do you still have it? If so hows it going so far? I'm looking into buying an si

Is this issue resulting in shorter engine life-span? Can this be offset by changing the oil more frequently?
Not my personal taste in vehicles, but after watching Nathan get so excited, I really want to drive one!
I have one in black. Twisty roads is where the car shines. It’s not fast but none the less it’s incredibly awesome I think

The thing about the Si is always the price to fun ratio. I love my '17, and, even though I'm in my 50's, I don't care about the lack of volume knob. The steering wheel adjuster works great, and I actually prefer it. Also, it really is fun to drive in any situation.
I prefer the Veloster N with performance pack. Still under $30k but 275hp and one of the sweetest sounding 4 banger exhausts ever made.

Still, overall a blast to drive.
bobs jeep: how was it swapping out the interior and break/turns to LED? Could you just swap bulbs or did you have to do the whole tail light assembly?

Billy Hughes totally agree. that or make an economy version of the Type R I can afford!!
Anonymous i don't think you understood. The SI comes in a coupe and sedan but we want it also in a hatchback. The SI has active suspension, limited slip diff and other features and is in my price range but it is not avail in a hatch.
I think the hatchback is a little too ricey for me. The coupe too but much less so.

@@hoodman420 I agree but the Focus and Fiesta ST are no longer for sale and the Miata and BRZ are not fast cars by any measure.

Over a Veloster N for just 2k more? Like that there is no engine cover. Did they solve the rev hang issue from when this gen began? The changes to the front and rear “cheese grater” fake vents make it much more attractive in my opinion.

I had a 2009 model, it was naturally aspirated and made 198 hp, you’re telling me that a turbo charge model only makes 205? What’s with that?
The turbo gives more power from about 2000 rpm and beyond. It's more of a torque adder, but also allows the engine to be a 1.5L.
It makes 200hp to the wheels. Look up Dyno. Underated. Engine makes 230-245hp.

Actually, they said it was VW that tried to diagnose the problem, even sending in an engineer from the factory. Ultimately, I got a new 6 speed. Everything else had been great. The 158 hp is only in a non turbo which is only in the base trim .every other car is basically 175 hp 165 torque.the si is 26/36. A 1.5 with cvt is about 32/42. The 2019 si was 28/38 but it’s mpg was lowered for shorter gear ratios.
Good humor, great info, awesome attitude. Keep up the good work.
They’re f**kn with me subliminally!
Suicidal!
Great review and a really nice car! I appreciate that Honda doesn't cover the engine with a giant piece of plastic.
Nathan! Shout out to Suicidal Tendencies! I love it! Pledge your allegiance................ST!
Loved the civic si I had . But the Hyundai veloster N for the price can't be beat .53 But it make me feel like a kid again. Great review.
Just an FYI, auto subtitles are changing the word coupe to "poop" 😂😂
Thanks for the heads up lmao
Great reviewer! I love this guy's energy
I have the '17 Si sedan. It's the most fun I've had as a daily driver since my 95 Civic coupe.
Enjoyed your video. Good fun.
I owned one until it got smashed, loved that car so much, and the 42mpg hwy that I got was nice too
You dont like the hdmi port exhaust Nathan?😄 Where do I put the trailer hitch to carry my mtb??
The one I crave after if the 2.0L 6MT Coupe. Currently have 2.0L 6MT Sedan and I get better consumption then Si's posted rate. Down here in Toronto, the natural aspirated engine do well. For nasty city driving the regular motor shines while the tiny turbo would need to eat humble pie.
Hi also in the GTA, picking up my 2020 2.0 6 speed next week. What kind of gas consumption you getting in litres?
I didnt know they still make civic coupes. Literally never seeen one
I see them everywhere in my city
Wake up
Depeche Mode- policy of truth is a good fitting song for that car
A Veloster N is under 30k, so you know the title of this video is false..
This car also comes with a limited slip differential...I'm not sure what other manufacturer provides that at this price. They've been doing that for years.
For under 30k? There's a few. Brz/86 comes to mind.
Great review dude. But I personally love the exhaust and wing.
Love my 2020 SI
You’re so right about the handbrake I wind up always putting it on by mistake because my hand touches it .. It’s definitely annoying my hand always puts it on but otherwise I love my car I have the 2020 automatic sports version
Bought my 2020 Si. Great review! 🙏🏻
Which one would you rather have, the coupe or the sedan?
Luke Said SEDAN
Coupe
Depends on your needs. I only have it for daily commuting so I got the coupe cause I like the looks better. If you carry people all the time then obviously get the 4 door
Coupe
This car was specifically made for the 20 to 30 yr olds demo. Honda wouldn't be surpised that a 40 or 50 sonething won't like it.
Jason Buis who cares what age it’s for lol are you seriously that insecure
I have a 2020 coupe Si and hands down, the best short throw shifter I've ever handled. I just didn't like the HDMI exhaust and the waffle design of the rear.
If you guys were to get a long term test civic (or even if you guys didn't), considering that the civic's headlights got a "Poor" raiting from IIHS. I'd LOVE to see you guys explore mods to improve the Civic's headlights. I have to say I'm a little biased as I have a 2017 Civic with the turbo charged inline 4 (and it's still a fun car to drive).
Drove one of these, not the fastest thing in the world but handles well. Considering leasing one or buying.
I love the Type R but as I get closer to 40 the Accord Sport 2.0 manual is the way to go for me. It’s an adults car and has plenty of power
I watched this video while in this cat. Love it.
Excellent review! I bought the 4 door version of the 2020 Si and am enjoying the heck out of it every day. Interestingly enough, I traded a 2019 Mustang GT and NOT sorry that I made the trade. This car is a hoot in the twisties and plenty of get up and go when you want!
Depeche Mode over Suicidal!? Passenger can walk.
Can Honda Sensing, collision mitigation, and all the other driving interference nonsense be permanently disabled?
Not with the stock controls. They can be turned off, but will re-enable when the car is re-started.
It’s a good car
Like it more than the accord coupe and its more reliable than the accord coupe
Not arguing but how is it more reliable? I thought the 1.5L turbo was having oil dilution problems?
They really screwed up the look of the Civic. Those fake vents!!🤮 Also hate that HDMI looking exhaust pipe exit!!! Sure it probably drives nice, but it’s ugly!!! They responded by adding back the volume knob, now fix some of these other design screw ups!! I use to own a 97 Prelude, it was a sweet ride.
Have they fixed oil dilution for the 1.5L?
sadly, no.
Yes, all 2019 and newer models have a software fix implemented at the factory that improves this issue. It does not completely eliminate the possibility of oil dilution if the owner continuously ignores general advice for GDI engines.
Yes they did, not only software but a part replacement next to the ac was changed
@@kcav1255 What is the general advice to fix the problem?
@@t.k.morris
Get the engine up to temp as soon as possible. Which means no cabin heaters on. No excessive idling on start up. Etc.
2.0L 6MT vs 1.5T 6MT with Paul..
Honda dealers charge an average of 10- 12% markup on the Type R. Sad to say that 2020 is the last year for the coup. Sales of coups accounted for only 6% of Civic sales.
What u should do is revive the is it faster than a fiesta st game show
It's not probably because the st is only 2600lbs the si is closer to 3k
I wonder why everyone raves about the manual shifters in the Civics, but no such raves for the Accord shifters? Is there an engineering/mechanical reason you couldn't put the better shifter in the bigger car? Seems like "economies of scale" would make this a smart move for Honda too.
Does Roman fit? Or does his head rub the roof. I wish you could get an Si without the sunroof for a little more head room.
do a raffle ticket with us so u can spend the money on more things for the show
With the cars that it competes in the same class it is down on HP and Tq. to most of them and after test driving some i prefer the VW GLI or GTI just something that feels different and feels more refined and upscale and also To me the style is better. Honda needs to fix the rear section it looks so weird and out there and wont look good in a few years. Id spend the extra for a GTI over the Si personally.
I Subscribed to your channel cuz u mentioned Suicidal Tendancies 😎
I’d like to own this car, but the new accord sport 2.0T has more power, a more luxurious interior, and better styling for a slightly higher price
Exactly that if you want a boat get a boat if you want fun go kart like handling then don't get the boat
This vs GTI vs Veloster Turbo vs civic sport hatchback vs Mazda 3 hatch please!!! :) looking to by a small fun manual commuter that could fit 1-2 kids occasionally. Would love to hear y’all thoughts!
K. Steele for under $30k the veloster N... that thing is awesome
I'll stick to my 90s hondas.
Wife and I are getting Si's after the winter.
