    I remember the 10 second changeover rule at AEW, mostly because they had JR mention it a bunch of times when the criticism started about there being too many guys in the ring too much of the time. The thing is that the changeover time wasn't the big problem. It was guys running in without tagging several times a match and staying in for long enough to do any number of moves while the ref gently waved in the background. It happened to the point where you wondered why anyone bothered waiting for a tag at all.
    Any tag team match where you can't remember who the legal men are is a shit match.
    It would be great if just occasionally teams were disqualified for too many run-ins too - that could easily be worked into an angle.

    • @DaylinThaGemini
      @DaylinThaGemini 2 года назад +4

      Any match with Death Triangle/Lucha Bros. I love PAC but I feel like him in a tag team hurts him. Too many multi-men tag matches and it'll be 5 vs 5. At the climax, you're rocking for the conclusion and then too much stuff happens to where you forget who's legal. Illegal person/people are in the ring too long to where you get confused. Example: Death Triangle vs House of Black. They had a 6 man staredown for 10 seconds before brawling in the ring for what felt like another 10 seconds before 4 of them went to the outside.

I miss the refs that would understand the technicality of wrestling and how it coincides with the pro wrestling world. Shoulder blades must be on the Mat before a count can be initiated, tags must be visually seen before the new legal man may enter, etc it felt more grounded back in the golden age and towards the attitude era with some of the best work by refs in my opinion. She then decided to start being a ref at local indy shows with no training. She had never seen any wrestling before 2015 at the time. And by virtue of being a slightly above average competent female referee got advantages & opportunities given to her that male referees with 10+ years experience and way more in ring skill will never be given those opportunities. She was actively hated within her own 'home' locker room in Seattle because of her 'know it all' attitude towards a sport she had known about's existence for less than 2 years.

It basically made tag matches 2-out-of-3 falls because you knew your first fall was likely to get interrupted. Now they dive in on nearly every pin and there's no flow to the match

      @KaneMagus I understand why you feel that way, I personally don't even like the term "women's wrestling" because in wrestling the only fundamental difference between men and women is size, but I'd also personally have no women wrestling than have women wrestling badly. That includes the "sexy" mud pit matches, bra and panties, water contests, whatever. If the participants lack psychology, athleticism and technique they are better off as managers, and if they have no charisma then they should just be valets.
      My standards aren't as high as Cornette's, but the AEW women's division wasn't good when I was watching it. It involved women I've seen have good matches before, but caused my opinions on many of them to drop. It also involved many rookies simply doomed to failure. WWE's women divisions 2004-2009 were similarly awful. Raw was at its best when they were all taken off entirely. There were exceptions. Mickie and Melina did well with competent opponents, Trish and Lita maintained Raw's regular viewership rating in the main event, but none of that excused the viewership hemorrhage women were otherwise causing. Then there was that shit they called NXT season three. That was a best example of people watching a bad wrestling show for the sole purpose of laughing at it besides Dramatic Dream Team. DDT's entire purpose is parodying American wrestling and NXT 3 was taken off TV; lows serious sports based presentation wrestling promotions should avoid at all costs.
      Yet AEW's women's division is headed by a man who spent the bulk of his career in DDT, who allowed recruitment from DDT/TJP for a women's title tournament(as opposed to say, Oz Academy/LLPW). If I wanted to laugh at bad wrestling, I'd just watch DDT. If a serious sports based promotion isn't going to do it well, maybe it should just stick to arm candy. I'm fine with women wrestlers. When AAA reduced Dark Angel to a sign carrier she jumped to CMLL and became recognized as one of the greatest luchadoras ever. I personally loved her matches with Amapola. Marcela was a joy to watch when she got away from the garbage matches of BJ. But few women in AEW have managed to prove or redeem themselves to that extent. Dark Angel had to leave AAA, Marcela BJ. AEW may not be the company to do it in. I don't know why, but the women matches in SHIMMER are almost always better than those the same people have in ROH. ROH used to tell fans who wanted to see women wrestlers to just watch SHIMMER. ROH tried again 2011-2019, but it's women's matches mostly remained lackluster.

I remember being impressed with that spot, because of how effective a team it made the Hart Dynasty look-- Smith's refusal to go with the typical tag in and subsequent covert tag-in made them look super intelligent and tactical, while Tyson's immediately accepting of Smith's refusal and working to break free on his own instead of acting all confused and dismayed really demonstrated the level of trust and camaraderie between them. It's those subtle pieces of psychology that can really make a difference in making a tag team look like a truly formidable force.

You need to follow certain conventions, so when the rules are broken it’s shocking. There has to be struggle, and the feeling of injustice that eventually is made right. And if the heels cheat twice, then the third time they get their comeuppance.

      I was joking mainly about how much filler is in movies nowadays.
      It seems like every single movie has to have a love story, and multiple side stories that are never fledged out.

    I remember the babyfaces trying to lean as far in to save their buddy without falling in and the heels using the rope to choke the opponent ebile the ref was distracted. Not having that little rule in there loses so much good story telling bits

      Not to mention having the baby face tag denied because of the refs distraction,continuing the drama until that hot tag was finally made and all hell broke loose.That is what made the price of a front row ticket and a few days wait worth it.

    I recall seeing guys tag their partners back, but they still were holding the tag rope so it made it seem legit. Like those times when I guy is in a headlock and they get backed up into the ropes so the partner tags their back or something before as a surprise tag for the opponent who didn’t see it.

    4:43 A Ten Count break between tags? That's basically the match equivalent of a segment beatdown.

    Tag teams of people who don't like each other have been slapping on the back for the "i want in even though you don't want to tag me' since at least the 1990s and probably earlier.

      i was about to comment something similair, idk why jim and others think this is an Aew problem when its been going on for over 20 years.
      i can remember shawn Michaels and steve Austin doing this when they were tag champs for a short while.
      idk why jim has such a hard on for this very specific thing all of a sudden.

      @KaneMagus I get what you are saying, but this so petty. As if every single sport hasn't evolved or removed rules over time. It's about as stupid as being inches short to tag your partner, yet your toes are the only thing left on the ring.

    • @ZeonRemnants
      @ZeonRemnants 3 года назад

      @Ihate RUclips ive never heard jim make that argument though, he just straight up says its illegal to backslap.
      theres a difference between saying its overused because it used to be a heat spot and saying its illegal.
      and im not saying he is wrong but its been done for over 20 years at this point , so its not like this is a new "problem" or only a aew problem.

    Interesting thing about the tag rope, in one match Sid was able to hold the tag rope, and still tag in despite his partner being over half way across ring when they hit the ropes.

    Omfg. Foot on mat. Hand on rope. Palm to Palm only. When did this "tag yourself in" stuff start? Just have a duos match if they want to do this.
