This clip made my day 😂😂 On a serious note i fully agree with helwani's rant about Tony. It was very frustrating even as a listener that he refused to answer any of his questions and had his guard up from the very beginning
Right, why even do the damn thing? At least the interview isn't completely worthless, it further revealed how clueless Tony Khantana really is at trying to play wrestling booker 🤷♂️
No wonder Khan wants AEW fans at his press scrums, instead of real journalists. He doesn't know to answer questions asking for real info, not for pandering to him.
Its because he's living out *his* own personal fantasy. He's playing with his action figures and creating this world where he's the supreme lord and ruler. Ariel can be a real shit stirrer and hasn't been much of an angel. But dammit, he's one of the only guys out there that's not afraid to bust some balls now.
Ariel’s M.O. has always been asking the questions that will bring the most attention to himself. It has worked out well for him obviously, but most people would have pivoted and tried to at least get a listenable interview out of TK. Ariel will just rephrase and follow up over and over which made it even more awkward. So in that sense I think he’s equally to blame. He only wanted to cover things TK wasn’t interested in talking about.
@@MrElephantBeach TK's M.O. is to be bitch boy to select people in his locker room, thus letting them embarrass him to the point where the vast majority thinks he's a spineless mark. Just last week I was reading an interview in El Pais where a Spanish politician gave the same non-answer six or seven times and the reporter kept circling back until she gave the paper something concrete. That's how an interview is supposed to go. It's not like Helwani is asking about personal family matters here. He just wanted Tony on record about the company Tony is supposedly the boss of.

Jim is right. If you’re on a show like this, work the interviewer. Get over some storylines. The fact that he refused to talk about MJF’s contract situation was a massive missed opportunity. MJF has been talking about it and he’s worked everyone, including Ariel Helwani. Tony needs to talk with MJF and get some tips on working journalists.
I live in the UK. WWE is broadcast on BT Sport, a premium paid sports channel comparable to ESPN in the US. AEW shows air on ITV4, a free TV channel that also broadcasts cult classic movies, classic action series' from the 60s, 70s and 80s, as well as a number of sporting events such as Horse Racing, Darts, Snooker and some less high profile Boxing and Football/Soccer matches. It's a fringe channel and Dynamite is broadcast at 1am UK time. If they get more than 10,000 viewers a week, I'd be amazed, every single one of which are already wrestling fans who have to actively seek it out.
Ariel: What is your favorite food? Tony: I really can't talk about it. Ariel: What is your favorite drink? Tony: We're in a realm of stuff I can't talk about. Ariel: What's the Jags record? Tony: You can ask but it's something I don't want to talk about.
This is a great example of how Tony doesn't understand the pro wrestling business and is an awful spokesman for his company. He lacks any experience to turn an interview into an additional vehicle for the on-screen angles.

@@allisoncox7243 granted that maybe the case. However, we as the common person would give somewhat logical reason as to why we don't want to answer a question, we wouldn't start promoting where we worked as an alternative.
Now, to go onto a show knowing the in-depth knowledge of the wrestling business such as Ariel Helwani and essentially waste his time for an hour, you can see how it would get frustrating.
I do believe Grand Funk Master Chief could have got his point across in a more sensible way, but such is life I guess.
Very telling that he cannot even grasp the concept of a worked answer.
Who is back after the Punk interview?
Holy shit, this is funny af. Tony doesn't answer a damn thing. Like Cornette said, it's the first time I've seen someone plead the fifth in a sports interview.
Ariel was spitting straight facts in this interview. No If, Ends, or Buts.
Ive watched plenty of Tony Khan interviews. He literally does this every single interview. Although this was the worst one because he doesn't trust Ariel at all it seems, while he is an unbiased journalist who asks hard hitting questions to everyone he interviews. Unlike everyone else who interviews Tony Khan. Every interview is Tony going on and on about upcoming shows and every show that has happened in the past.
Let me add I am a fan of AEW so im not just hating on him for the sake of hating them.
Imagine if Vince McMahon answered JR the same way TK did about the Montreal Screwjob....
Lol now I can't get this out of my head
@darylaiken "I didn't screw Tony. Tony screwed Tony."
"There's a time honored tradition... and I don't want to talk about it"
This clip made my day 😂😂
On a serious note i fully agree with helwani's rant about Tony. It was very frustrating even as a listener that he refused to answer any of his questions and had his guard up from the very beginning
Right, why even do the damn thing? At least the interview isn't completely worthless, it further revealed how clueless Tony Khantana really is at trying to play wrestling booker 🤷♂️
@@lostinthought7349 exactly! Cause hes so used to being interviewed by fans who want to talk about the matches
part of it is because ariel has a relationship with wwe
Yes, seriously, why bother? TK just wasted everyone's fucking time. Listening to it, I get frustrated FOR Helwani
@@jacemacfie1475he should just refuse to do an interview instead of wasting everyone time

I live in England and was today years old when I learned AEW is on ITV...that's how much of a splash it has made
Same. ITV2 at that.
I watched ep1 - ep3 of Dynamite when it first launched. Haven't watched AEW since.
wait, it's on itv? lmao
Literally like an actual man-child who didn't get enough love growing up and has to escape to an imaginary play land.
So when real people ask him real questions, he has NO CLUE how to answer them. It's absolutely bizarre.
@@josevillarreal5955 just no capacity to think up even a kayfabe answer that might make his shows more interesting to watch.
Sometimes you wanna choke Tony like Homer does Bart with these answers😭

Same here Tony Khan is an idiot.
Between all the non-answers and the bathroom break, TK is a living, breathing meme machine. 😆😅🤣
Cocaine Tony
Always love the quality of Jim’s promo just off the top of his head. So great.
This interview sounded like what happens when you let your friends get you a date, it sounds good in paper but when reality hits, it's just an awkward conversation
Jim off the top of his head with a great promo.
Tony recently attacked Ariel on Twitter the day before Elimination Chamber. He's still mad about this 😂.
... Did Tony Khan actually take a piss break in the middle of this interview? It’s hilarious that they didn’t edit that out
Would have been funny if he had a live mic like on in the naked gun
yes...a "piss break" not a coke/ adderall break.
@@lracseroom8286 good point. Regardless of what he was actually doing, could you imagine Vince McMahon (or any of the big wigs in WWE or WCW for that matter) sitting in on an interview (or any meeting) and 40 minutes into an interview being like “I’m gonna take a ‘leak’, BRB”
Unprofessionalism oozes from AEW faster than blood oozes from Moxley’s head
@@garrettkeithr To be fair, guests on Joe Rogan usually do take a piss break when they've been talking for 3 hours straight.
@@britz9418 I’m guessing that Joe Rogan’s guests don’t normally try to wrap the interview up 5 minutes after their ‘piss’ break tho. I bet that during his break he did his line and got reamed out by the AEW PR person about going over his allotted interview time.
I don't understand what anyone could be mad at Ariel for. He's asking about stuff that we all want to know about. What a complete wast of time....
Ariel can be a real shit stirrer and hasn't been much of an angel. But dammit, he's one of the only guys out there that's not afraid to bust some balls now.
It's just the virgin aew marks...no surprise at all
Ariel’s M.O. has always been asking the questions that will bring the most attention to himself.
And when you've been relegated to that, it is going to be hard to answer those questions.. he still has to babysit those egos that he nurtured and let take over. So it's not because he didn't want to answer, it's because he can't, because he has no balls and the environment is dysfunctional and fragile due to him having no balls
@@MrElephantBeach I've always hated Ariel ever since early UFC. Watching Dana shit on him non stop was so fun
I know why Khan didn’t want to talk with Helwani but I can not talk about that.

Whatever the opposite of "controversy creates cash" is..that was it.
Dollars Down the Drain, or something like that I dunno.
If someone ever said "Because it doesn't serve me" as an actual response, I would smack the absolute dogshit out of them and probably get arrested for assault. The absolute disrespect to use someone's platform and say "I don't want to answer that question because it doesn't serve me" when you are on THEIR FUCKING PLATFORM to promote your shitty ass show, congrats. Ariel Helwani didn't deserve that at all. We also gotta quit pretending the WWE product is actually good now, it's still boring.
Corny being able to just rattle off basic psychology in how you can work an interview like this is so refreshing. It's so easy for him how is this not the mentality across the board?
Why was he so evasive with Saraya? I thought that was a softball question.
I think Tony had thrown all his toys out of the pram by that point

Tony we know you're listening to Cornette's podcast Cornette is giving you free booking ideas on the fly. Just steal Cornette's ideas on how to book MJF.
I genuinely couldn't believe so many people were defending Tony Khan's performance here. A reporter is supposed to push. That's what they're for.
Over a year later and nothing has changed he's still a bad politician 😁
At what point does he tell Tony to "get the f*** out of here before I throw you the f*** out of here"?
Khan thinking the mention of a contract means he has to list the full details of it
If I were Ariel I would have terminated the interview as soon as he started refusing to answer questions, what an absolute joke of an "interview".
Tony Khan-"I don't like all these dirt sheet reporters making stuff up and gossiping." Also, Tony Khan-"Why are these sports journalists asking me real questions. Didn't he get the pre-approved PR questions we gave to the dirt sheet guys?"
And since then all
Dirt sheet writers have been banned from post-PPV media scrums. From now on the only partipant will be Peter Avalon wielding a pencil and working a dirt sheet writer gimmick. TK’s paranoia knows no bounds now, the guy is cracking
@nbaldwin45 Maybe Tony will invite Shane Helms to the next scrum, and is anything breaks loose, the Hurricane can swoop in and break it up.

Is this the most unintentionally funny interview ever?
Jim is right. If you’re on a show like this, work the interviewer. Get over some storylines. The fact that he refused to talk about MJF’s contract situation was a massive missed opportunity. MJF has been talking about it and he’s worked everyone, including Ariel Helwani. Tony needs to talk with MJF and get some tips on working journalists.
And considering Ariel’s fandom of wrestling he probably would’ve been happy to go along with it within reason.
@@Matt-cr4vv Exactly. You have to be a complete failure for Ariel to come down on you.
Minder is still the best thing on ITV4
This is what happens when TK actually gets interviewed by a journalist and not a “Mark”….
Ariel: What is your favorite food? Tony: I really can't talk about it.
Ariel: What is your favorite drink? Tony: We're in a realm of stuff I can't talk about.
Ariel: What's the Jags record? Tony: You can ask but it's something I don't want to talk about.
🤣
What I love about this video is that it's a tutorial on what to do and not do in an interview. Corny on what to do, Tony on what not to do.
This is a great example of how Tony doesn't understand the pro wrestling business and is an awful spokesman for his company. He lacks any experience to turn an interview into an additional vehicle for the on-screen angles.
The number one show in the U.K in the world
