@@loturzelrestaurant I can definitely agree to this and while I can maybe see him taking down Diantha (who I would imagine would struggle due to her over reliance on Mega Gardevoir and her presumable lack of experience with dynamaxing) and Steven (Dude uses a lot of Steel types) I just can't for the life of me see him beating Cynthia simply for the fact in the anime we've seen her Garchomp shrug off several ice type attacks, its (Used to be) one weakness. Meanwhile in the Lance vs Leon fight Leon's Charizard look like it struggled in the battle.
What i love most about Cynthia is how she still fells human, outside battle shes just a mythology nerd that, loves ice-cream, gets worked up about going to the beach and buys too many swimsuits, and refuses to tell anyone where she lives because she's super embarrassed of how much of a mess it is
As I said on my own twitter recently while struggling to beat Cynthia: Dragon Rush has 75 accuracy unless it is used by Cynthia then it can never miss.
I like that they gave Cynthia Kommo-o, seems they want to keep it consistent that she has a type advantage over Cyrus no matter which of the Creation Trio he has, while also still having a Pseudo-Legendary.
Both Cynthias are also AOE Sweepers. She is so strong she doesn't just take out one target she sweeps all 3 at the same time. And powers up the longer you fight her kommo-o it gets a omni boost every time you synch.
I personally don't think that Kommo-o suits for Cynthia well. We've never seen her with Kommo-o before and the things, which she said to Kommo-o suits more for Togekiss or Spiritomb
As a young girl who loved video games, I often found myself struggling to find good female role models in video games. I was 9 when Diamond released and I instantly grew attached to Cynthia as both a character, as well as a badass champion with a tough battle. Gen 4 remains my favorite, and I look forward to seeing Cynthia with every play-through of Sinnoh.

Cythia was my first champion, and that's probably why I never struggled with any other pokemon game. She forced me to become the best possible trainer that I could when I was just introduced to the pokemon world. And that's why she's my favorite. I will admit, Leon put up a fight against me. But to this day, Cynthia is the only champion who has beaten me.
Kacpikachu I haven’t lost to any of the champions, but Cynthia ALMOST beat me in my first match against her, only reason I held out and barely was cause I had enough items and my Pokémon at the time were close to hers level wise. Same thing on my end though, never really had the same challenge from other champions as Cynthia gave me, even with Steven in omega ruby with a type advantage on his side. Cynthia is definitely lightning that game freak captured in a bottle, best team set up of the time, great balance between them and adjusted proper for the next fight, even with a type advantage and a legendary to back me up, she still had me pushed back.
same. I struggled so hard with her and it took me weeks so the trauma(😂) polished me into a very effective trainer that when I fought with gen 1's elite 4 and champ(my 2nd game) I was disappointed in Blue. and it went downhill from there.
She still instills genuine fear in me everytime I hear that piano. Everytime that song starts playing, I start sweating and I get goosebumps even 13 years later, no other champion even comes close to having that kind of aura. That Garchomp really makes her the strongest trainer in any Pokemon game ever
The most intense and memorable match I've ever had in a Pokemon game was against Cynthia. It was like something out the anime as we took down each other's teams one by one until she was down to her Milotic and I was down to my Stuntank and the only reason I was able to land the final blow on her Milotic was because my Stuntank had the Quick Claw. No battle I've had on a Pokemon game has come that close since.
Unfortunately the quick claw was how I defeated the garchomp with my abamasnow and blizzard. I never truly appreciated her until much later after that. She did show me how much of a wolf in red riding clothing she was, even in that first battle, but nowadays a true respect blumed for that fight.
My scariest battle was a doubles against some random NPCs in Sword. What made it scary was their Kirlia's Trace copying Shedinja's Wonder Guard. I had one pokémon at the end of that battle, and they didn't even have a full team.
I believe it’s possible that Cynthia could’ve gotten her hands on Kommo-o when she went to the battle tree in sun & moon. If I remember correctly the battle tree was located in the same island where you can find Jangmo-o
TheDeathmail a higher level doesn’t mean stronger. We all know how to counter her Pokémon now while we didn’t before. She can’t be hard unless you force yourself to to use un-optimal Pokémon
Eh, I think Steven is pretty up there. Main issue is that he doesn’t even really want to be a champion. He has other hobbies he loves more than Pokemon, which is why Cynthia pulls ahead on passion alone.
He is defo my favourite, my first Pokemon game was the 3rd Gen with Ruby, I remember the final Champion Battle and I saw him send out Metagross and fell in love with it, it was my favourite Pokemon until the remakes came out and he Mega Evolved it... I loved it.. first Pokemon I shiny hunted in the remakes because I loved the shiny form, I just love Metagross haha
Hot take:Cynthia isn't that memorable a champion as her delusional fanboys think she is. Other than her Garchomp what makes Cynthia stand out from the rest? She doesn't challenge your ideals,has no relatability,barely involved in the story until the climax. @みやぞのさくら weavile and sneasel literally both learn ice moves by level up and tm, and they will always be faster unless you somehow got the worst possible weavile/sneasel and 0 speed IVs and a minus speed Nature And even then ice shard exists Not to mention that ice tms exist and can all put away with garchomp given that Alot of Pokémon learn them
@みやぞのさくら I was playing DP. My team was level 59-60 (except for Weavile which was early 50s). My Weavile did help out a bit but torterra did most of the work. I'll admit, I was a little lucky in my first battle with her, but in every other battle against her (in Platinum, BW, B2W2), I didn't have much trouble.
The ultimate dream for me is for the Diamond and Pearl remakes to be prequels where we get to play as a young Cynthia. I think it would be an amazing opportunity to do some lore building and expand upon the history of one of Pokemon's most popular characters. Like Cynthia is cool because she's you, she went on the same journey as a kid and became a champion just like you. It would be so awesome if a prequel got to tell this story. It would be like the opposite of Red where you play as him in the original game and then battle him in a later game. Here you would battle Cynthia in the original and then play as her in the prequel to experience how she became this good! Seriously, you don't know how much money I would give to make that happen! And making it focus around an already popular character would probably make the games sell even better than if they were remakes set in the present. Come on Nintendo, you know you want to do it! My wallet is ready, just make my dreams come true!!!
Cynthia hands down, the hardest champ of all time. the music gets you psyched. the pokemon she uses, incredible. the menacing stare? intimidating. she's serious. The fact that when you get her down to her last pokemon, she says "i can't remember the last time i was put into a corner like this!", it strokes your ego, but tells you she doesn't lose often. why can't have trainers like this anymore?!?!?
Honestly, Cynthia being a secret boss in BW cemented her as one of my favourite characters because she is built up so much like Red. I really want to see Game Freak do something interesting with her in upcoming main series games. Great video as always!
I remember when I would have dreams of the music of sinnoh which made me decide to reply platinum as an adult, played it full 100% but man when it came to do the elite four. For the first time in a pokemon game I had to train and grind out trainers with the vs seeker, keep in mind I battled EVERY trainer that came way and knocked out any wild encounters. My team was pretty consistent so switching out pokemon for others didn't really happen because i wanted any XP to not go to waste. I love the team I made and the adventure I had when I needed it most in life. Empoleon, Luxray, Gastrodon, Gengar, Altaria, Magmortar
Honestly this new update really made me appreciate Cyrus a lot me. It gives me hope that they’ll expand on his character even more for a Sinnoh Remake!

True, because if your argument is Lance was the champion and lost it to Blue or Gary then the question becomes who is the mystery elite 4 member who got kicked out once Lance lost as champion to Blue or Gary and returned to E4.

When I played Diamond for the first time I didn't realize / remember you had to face the Champion immediately after the Elite 4 (despite having already played FireRed and Emerald, I must have been really stupid) It's safe to say after scraping through the Sinnoh Elite 4 with a badly damaged team, my first surprise battle against Cynthia did NOT go well 😅

@@Athrun000 Red defeating Blue is canon in every later entry, and lead directly into Lance running the Indigo League. For the most part it can be debated whether or not beating the game is canon because it hardly ever gets followed up on. Sun/Moon is the last one I've seen to feel like it counted.
Hoenn was my favorite region, but Cynthia is my favorite champion. I had a major crush on her as a kid and I actually remember her battle quite well and I loved the strategy & frustration of battling her. It took a few tries to win but it felt so satisfying. It was just what I wanted from a champion (though I also want challenge from the game). Agreed that her battle music is flipping amazing.
To be fair, Red is the option battle off the beaten path after beating the post-game. Cynthia is the end of the main storyline, so she's pretty hard for a player at that point of the storyline.
@@Kahtisemo Yes, I agree with Red being a optional trainer but he is way high-leveled than every champions in their regions and even I haven't seen any NPCs with Pokemons above 80 lvls aside from Red in Gen 2, 4 and 7.

Talking about champions lore wise, here are my opinions: -Lance, he seems like the serious type who takes his champion title, well, seriously with a powerful Dragonite to back up his title -Steven, someone who loves stones more than battles but does takes things seriously when the time comes, Wallace willing to take Steven’s place if Steven is busy doing his own thing -Cynthia, I like how in the anime she has difficulty choosing what food to eat, has a deep knowledge of her region’s culture, and her battling proves that she is champion material -Alder, I like the trope of him being a care free sage, someone who knows all the answers but rather enjoy life than being a dispenser of knowledge -Diantha, great character even if she treats being a champion as part of her celebrity life style -Leon, quite overconfident, hams up his performances, but I admire his ideal of making sure everyone is having fun In terms of strength: Leon (almost undefeatable), Red (also almost undefeatable), Cynthia, Alder, Diantha, Steven, Lance (even though Lance takes his title more seriously than Steven and Diantha, not to say Steven and Diantha don’t acknowledge their title as champion)

Trent That would make ANY champ pathetically easy. How is that even an argument? My team was Torterra, Starapter, Lucario, Abomasnow, Luxray, and Vespiquen. Nothing special, but it tore her apart pretty easily. I was only around 62 or so in level
Maximus Craig she’s definitely hardest I’ve fought. Her team as a whole isn’t terribly tough until you get to Garchomp. I’d say Leon’s team is overall harder than her team but Garchomp is harder than anything he’s got imo.
My first time ever reaching Cynthia I was out of power points, my entire team was fainted except my empoleon, and all I had left was the move cut. Then she threw out spiritomb and I cried alittle because I had no way to hurt it.

I'm nostalgic about Steven Stone because my original Sapphire game was like the first one I ever played through while feeling like I knew what I was doing. My best friend and I played together, we chipped in and got the Prima's guide and would share it and try to find all the cool Pokemon and stuff. Beating Steven with his tough Steel types seemed so difficult back in 2003! I will agree that competitively, Cynthia is the toughest champion though. In the Sun & Moon era, I had a TCG deck that was themed around her.
Even with Dialga Cynthia was tough. Of course Diamond was the last time I used a legendary on my team. Sure Victini was on my White team for a bit, but it never made it to the Unova Elite 4.
@@SpiritedFalcon Provided it doesn't outspeed you and hit you with an earthquake. Her Lucario could also use fighting attacks to take it out (Dialga's steel typing was the only place it held weaknesses). Most of my teams biggest weakness back then was either electric, ground, or fighting types and it took multiple attempts to finally beat her due to the team being a bit under leveled by the time I got to the elite 4.
She is good I just replayed platinum and she was still a lil difficult this time my team was Torterra,Togekiss,Lucario, Magmortar,Electivire and Dusknior And I put choice specs on magmortar and it killed everything 🤙🤙🤣
Great Stuff. She's just the best. Her design suits me personally. 1) super long ankle length hair 2) beautiful black clothing 3) all her Pokemon are ones I love and personally use (with the exception of Togekiss which I dislike the design of, so not love just like...) anyway her physical appearance is also a factor. I think she's the best champion personally. She's the most like my alter ego and personal versions of being a Pokemon trainer so I also feel close to her for that reason too.
12:30 You tell me, first time I fought her I had Dialga with me. It made it out of the fight either in the red or a few HP away from it. My Tortera was the only other pokemon on my team to not be fainted by the end of the fight, and it was in the same predicament as Dialga. I'm almost certain I had a Staraptor and a Luxrai with Intimidate (not sure if it was in platinum that I first cheesed her Garchomp by switching between two 'mons with Intimidate, and even then it still hit like a truck), my good old Bibarell, who, like the other non legendary members of my team, had been in it since the beginning and despite being my HM slave still pulled its weight, and not ONLY as a quick sacrifice switch, and I genuinely don't remember my last pokemon. Might have been a Floatzel, that or a Rampardos. It was my first pokemon game and I had no clue how to evolve Riolu, if I had I would have had a Lucario on my team, just because even before I even knew how to get it it was my favourite pokemon (it still is as a matter of fact). I also had no clue that trying to get my Tortera to solo Candace was a bad idea, so judge 10 year old me accordingly. Before anyone asks, it worked, but it was very much an uphill battle. Like battling the second gym with nothing but my then Grotle. Or the subsequent Eterna City Team Galactic hideout. Pretty sure I remember my Grotle evolving from fighting Jupiter. I don't think I used any other pokemon until that point, despite basically having a full team two badges prior.
Hey! I've been loving your content recently, and this video especially because I have fond memories of battling Cynthia with my favourite playthrough team in Platinum.
6:49 On my last run of Platinum, I went out of my way to get a Spiritomb for my team and I didn't regret it. I ended up with Infernape, Azumaril, Roserade, Steelix, Spiritomb, and Staraptor. I excavated for shards to have great moves, I charged through the less important NPCs, but when I faced Cynthia, I STILL ended up having to spam Revives and I just felt completely defeated. Though I suppose I shouldn't feel too bad about it since, of course, she also used Full Restores.
An example of a great female character by you know, making her interesting and well written along with being a extremely powerful trainer who earned the right to be called the best Pokemon Champion in the games. Characters like Rey and Captain Marvel could learn from her.

Leon's team is also much more beastlike than Cynthia He has a better pseudo legendary and the rest of his team has more heavy hitters like haxorus and rillaboom And let's not forget the currently banned cinderace( it's the only champion pokemon in ubers other than zekrom/reshiram)
@@milesandrews6711 Well Garchomp was in ubers Gen 4, and is still viable to this day. Not many pokemon can claim being in Ou or for 4(technically 5 but 4 since it's still mid gen 8) straight generations in a row.
@@verximama828 yeah it was ubers in Gen 4, the gen where there was arguably the lease power creep, afterwards it just stayed in ou the entire time and even currently it's kinda outclassed by Lando t in every role other than defensive Rocky helmet just because it has rough skin
Always liked that Pokémon champions teams always include Pokémon that are rare or difficult to obtain. Example Cynthia’s team in DP had a Milotic, which was hard to get before the prism scale, a Lucario, which there is only one in the whole game, a Spiritomb that can only be obtained using the wifi connection in the underground and a Garchomp, a pseudo legendary that takes a lot of time to get it to evolve. Lance had 3 Dragonites, a Charizard, a starter that was no way available in the game unless you trade, and an Aerodactyl, in which can only be obtained if you revived an old amber which isn’t in the game, or in game trade, all in his original GSC lineup and switched it up to include a Salamence and Garchomp in HGSS. Leon had the only Charizard in the whole Galar region, a pseudo legendary Dragapult and the only other starter Pokémon. Diantha had a difficult to evolve pseudo legendary Goodra, both rare fossil Pokémon and a Mega Gardevoir.
I one hit knocked out Garchomp with roar of time by Dialga in my first diamond gameplay. After it whenever I have encountered Cynthia's Garchomp(In platinum or unova games) he always knock out my 2 or 3 pokemon easily.It seems like he always want to take revenge of that insult from me🙂🙂

Ugh! She made me want to rip my hair out! I remember getting so frustrated and thinking; ‘if I only had my Dragonite, you would PAY!’. Too bad I had to beat her before I could transfer my Dragonite from emerald version, 😂. Today tho, those memories are quite precious to me...and Cynthia is now my favorite trainer in the series; she kicks ass in the games, she’s adorable in the manga, and down right hilarious in the anime...’one Bearticone, please.’ 🤣🥰
I beat her first try mainly because of luck. I was crushing her team until her last pokemon garchomp, it one shotted 3 members of my team lol, the only reason I won was because dragon rush missed and I got a crit with giga drain.
Just finished a Platinum playthrough today and I have to say that Flint's Infernape and Lucian's Alakzam/Espeon caused me more trouble than any of the members of Cynthia's team...but I guess that bringing a Weavile helped alot (My levels were between 49 - Heracross and 59 - Infernape so I didn't really grinded )
Loved your video!!! My favorite champion was always Steven! His steel types gave me a real challenge during his time. I was pretty unprepared for it. Also he has some serious class and has a very straight forward style which I really respect. Also I like the Elite 4 under Steven more. Just my opinion. However Cynthia will always have my respect but never really challenge me since my team always had an answer for her Pokémon!
Taking on the elete 4 in ORAS with a dangerously underleveled team, with the only super effective move being brick break on a Grovyle, I would have to agree with that. Must’ve taken me at least 20 attempts to beat him lol
Ben Weston the first time I fought Stevens Metagross I thought I could take it with my Blazikens Blaze kick. This dude tanked it and one-shot my starter with an earthquake that I felt IRL! 😂
Samrath Singh ok? I bet you weren’t running with a Shedinja which was unusable, a first stage starter and an underleveled rest of the team, with no fire or dark moves
Don't forget that Cynthia's Roserade has Extrasensory, which is an Egg Move that can only be passed down by Nuzleaf and Shiftry, neither of which can be found in Sinnoh (unless you connect it to Ruby). That's yet another thing that Cynthia has over you.
Btw Toby, in the Cyrus quest. It is stated that Cynthia hatched a Jangmo-o out of an egg and trained it to become a Kommo-o. The question now is where did she get that Kommo-o egg?
Sygna Suits are custom made by a mysterious fashion designer on Pasio that we have yet to meet... They made one for Brock (and his Tyranitar), one for Red (and Charizard), one for Elesa (and Rotom), one for Grimsley (and Sharpedo, its very dapper) and now Cynthia. We also know that Leaf and Blue have one coming, due to the 6 month anniversary trailer (to go with their Mega Venusaur and Mega Blastoise!). I'm sure that designer could make you one that would suit you even more!
Pearl was my first game, and I remember trying to beat her for days, and finally best her with struggle after struggling (hah) for hours on a road trip
The Kommo-o makes sense for Cynthia, as that pokémon, like Cynthia, is also steeped in myths. The species seems dedicated to suppressing the power of the hands of Arceus, like Necrozma, Eternatus, and Kyurem Prime. As a species that exists to fight the gods of their world, what better partner for one who would reveal their secrets?

This video has brought something to my mind that I’m a little afraid of happening now, and that is if we get a remake of Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, are they going to make Cynthia a cake walk to be an easier game? I really hope not

I think it can be at least agreed that the new games are easier than some of the older generations, which is more what my comment was getting at. A remake of Platinum in the modern style of Pokemon would be far easier than the original, and, at least in the case of Cynthia's fight, would take away from the weight of it

I like her the most because she was one of the first to feel like both a real person with interests outside being champion like Steven while still getting stuff done when the villains attack like Lance (to a slightly less extent because the game still has to give the player the real challenges for it to work as a game... she could have totally defeated Cyrus if you failed). She also has the cutest personality where she'll go from serious to silly in seconds because of her imposing presence in anime being mostly a misconception.

Cynthia is a personal favorite of mine just for the fact that even going back to platinum in 2024 she still gives my teams a run for the money every time, even with the best coverage I have there’s just something about her that throws me off my game and I love it
I miss the power hike Cynthia always caught me off gaurd. It also feels in lore level 80-85 is red level power 70-80 is unheard of outside of battle facilities and i guess Red and Blue were relaxing in Alola and not pushing too hard as they drop to 70s.60-70 is veterans and Rematches where you go all out. Meanwhile Cynthia got 17,000 of my gems 😭 but i got 1/5. She has beaten me in game and financially.
I love Cynthia and have very vivid memories of my fight against her, I got her down to Garchomp and ultimately lost so badly that I had to ask my older brother to battle her for me, of which I was quite ashamed to do back then.

Although I first heard of Cynthia in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl anime series, I’ve first met her in Pokémon Black. Then again in Black 2. And then, I met her again in Pokémon Sun. I like her a lot. Her character has influenced me to become stronger as I possibly can.
Pokémon Black and White. You just arrived at Undella Town. In Summer there is some activity, but it's Spring right now, so there's not much to do right now. There are a few rich persons i the giant mansion that wants to battle. It's great to fill your pocket, but not much of a challenge. Then you enter a random house... And the music start to play. That Piano, that crazy piano immediately brings you back to another life you experienced so many years ago. Or maybe, this is your first time through a Pokemon game, but instinctly, you know. This is not any ordinary trainer. Cynthia is there, simply chilling. She's amiable, and let you take your time to prepare for battle, but the tension in the air is so thick it could be cut back with a knife. You check your team, and prepare for the hardest battle you'll ever face. You're not likely to win that first encounter, because she's stronger than any other trainer in this game. And that's how you build a legend. Cynthia would be iconic enough if she appeared one, but she come back, game after game, reaffirming her legend, showing new generations of players what she's made off.
I played Y recently (Shiny Hunter, needed to get the Friend Safari back after my X data currupted...) and I fell in love with Mienshao. It carried me through A LOT of the game.

iris battle can go 2 ways you beat her all of her pokemon easily then she throws out the haxours and uses dragondance with focus sash as a held item you knock her down 1 hp and either she uses a full restore and gets one shot or she goes on the offensive and starts wiping your team lol

I love that Poémon Masters puts the spotlight on the human characters, they tend to be overshadowed by all the Pokémon.
In Pokemon Masters, Cynthia actually mentions that she raised her Kommo-o from an egg and that it has a passionate rivalry against her Garchomp and they tend to spar with each other. It's a cute backstory.
It really is, her Kommo-o and Garchomp having a rivalry each other does makes a lot of sense.

I like that they gave Cynthia Kommo-o, seems they want to keep it consistent that she has a type advantage over Cyrus no matter which of the Creation Trio he has, while also still having a Pseudo-Legendary.

Both Cynthias are also AOE Sweepers. She is so strong she doesn't just take out one target she sweeps all 3 at the same time. And powers up the longer you fight her kommo-o it gets a omni boost every time you synch.

As a young girl who loved video games, I often found myself struggling to find good female role models in video games. I was 9 when Diamond released and I instantly grew attached to Cynthia as both a character, as well as a badass champion with a tough battle. Gen 4 remains my favorite, and I look forward to seeing Cynthia with every play-through of Sinnoh.

Cythia was my first champion, and that's probably why I never struggled with any other pokemon game. She forced me to become the best possible trainer that I could when I was just introduced to the pokemon world. And that's why she's my favorite.
I will admit, Leon put up a fight against me. But to this day, Cynthia is the only champion who has beaten me.
Kacpikachu I haven’t lost to any of the champions, but Cynthia ALMOST beat me in my first match against her, only reason I held out and barely was cause I had enough items and my Pokémon at the time were close to hers level wise. Same thing on my end though, never really had the same challenge from other champions as Cynthia gave me, even with Steven in omega ruby with a type advantage on his side. Cynthia is definitely lightning that game freak captured in a bottle, best team set up of the time, great balance between them and adjusted proper for the next fight, even with a type advantage and a legendary to back me up, she still had me pushed back.

same. I struggled so hard with her and it took me weeks so the trauma(😂) polished me into a very effective trainer that when I fought with gen 1's elite 4 and champ(my 2nd game) I was disappointed in Blue. and it went downhill from there.
She still instills genuine fear in me everytime I hear that piano. Everytime that song starts playing, I start sweating and I get goosebumps even 13 years later, no other champion even comes close to having that kind of aura. That Garchomp really makes her the strongest trainer in any Pokemon game ever

The most intense and memorable match I've ever had in a Pokemon game was against Cynthia. It was like something out the anime as we took down each other's teams one by one until she was down to her Milotic and I was down to my Stuntank and the only reason I was able to land the final blow on her Milotic was because my Stuntank had the Quick Claw. No battle I've had on a Pokemon game has come that close since.
Unfortunately the quick claw was how I defeated the garchomp with my abamasnow and blizzard. I never truly appreciated her until much later after that. She did show me how much of a wolf in red riding clothing she was, even in that first battle, but nowadays a true respect blumed for that fight.
My scariest battle was a doubles against some random NPCs in Sword. What made it scary was their Kirlia's Trace copying Shedinja's Wonder Guard. I had one pokémon at the end of that battle, and they didn't even have a full team.

Eh, I think Steven is pretty up there. Main issue is that he doesn’t even really want to be a champion. He has other hobbies he loves more than Pokemon, which is why Cynthia pulls ahead on passion alone.
He is defo my favourite, my first Pokemon game was the 3rd Gen with Ruby, I remember the final Champion Battle and I saw him send out Metagross and fell in love with it, it was my favourite Pokemon until the remakes came out and he Mega Evolved it... @みやぞのさくら I was playing DP. My team was level 59-60 (except for Weavile which was early 50s). My Weavile did help out a bit but torterra did most of the work. I'll admit, I was a little lucky in my first battle with her, but in every other battle against her (in Platinum, BW, B2W2), I didn't have much trouble.
The ultimate dream for me is for the Diamond and Pearl remakes to be prequels where we get to play as a young Cynthia. I think it would be an amazing opportunity to do some lore building and expand upon the history of one of Pokemon's most popular characters.
Like Cynthia is cool because she's you, she went on the same journey as a kid and became a champion just like you. It would be so awesome if a prequel got to tell this story. It would be like the opposite of Red where you play as him in the original game and then battle him in a later game. Here you would battle Cynthia in the original and then play as her in the prequel to experience how she became this good!
Seriously, you don't know how much money I would give to make that happen! And making it focus around an already popular character would probably make the games sell even better than if they were remakes set in the present. Come on Nintendo, you know you want to do it! Cynthia hands down, the hardest champ of all time. the music gets you psyched. the pokemon she uses, incredible. the menacing stare? intimidating. she's serious. The fact that when you get her down to her last pokemon, she says "i can't remember the last time i was put into a corner like this!", it strokes your ego, but tells you she doesn't lose often. why can't have trainers like this anymore?!?!?
Honestly, Cynthia being a secret boss in BW cemented her as one of my favourite characters because she is built up so much like Red. I really want to see Game Freak do something interesting with her in upcoming main series games. Great video as always!
I remember when I would have dreams of the music of sinnoh which made me decide to reply platinum as an adult, played it full 100% but man when it came to do the elite four. For the first time in a pokemon game I had to train and grind out trainers with the vs seeker, keep in mind I battled EVERY trainer that came way and knocked out any wild encounters. My team was pretty consistent so switching out pokemon for others didn't really happen because i wanted any XP to not go to waste. I love the team I made and the adventure I had when I needed it most in life. Empoleon, Luxray, Gastrodon, Gengar, Altaria, Magmortar

I used Weaviile with Ice Punch to defeat Garchomp, it's the only good counter that's quicker than it at roughly the same level

@@Athrun000 Red defeating Blue is canon in every later entry, and lead directly into Lance running the Indigo League. For the most part it can be debated whether or not beating the game is canon because it hardly ever gets followed up on. Sun/Moon is the last one I've seen to feel like it counted.
Hoenn was my favorite region, but Cynthia is my favorite champion.
I had a major crush on her as a kid and I actually remember her battle quite well and I loved the strategy & frustration of battling her. It took a few tries to win but it felt so satisfying. It was just what I wanted from a champion (though I also want challenge from the game).

To be fair, Red is the option battle off the beaten path after beating the post-game. Cynthia is the end of the main storyline, so she's pretty hard for a player at that point of the storyline.

Talking about champions lore wise, here are my opinions:
-Lance, he seems like the serious type who takes his champion title, well, seriously with a powerful Dragonite to back up his title
-Steven, someone who loves stones more than battles but does takes things seriously when the time comes, Wallace willing to take Steven’s place if Steven is busy doing his own thing
-Cynthia, I like how in the anime she has difficulty choosing what food to eat, has a deep knowledge of her region’s culture, and her battling proves that she is champion material
-Alder, I like the trope of him being a care free sage, someone who knows all the answers but rather enjoy life than being a dispenser of knowledge
-Diantha, great character even if she treats being a champion as part of her celebrity life style
-Leon, quite overconfident, hams up his performances, but I admire his ideal of making sure everyone is having fun
In terms of strength:
Leon (almost undefeatable), Red (also almost undefeatable), Cynthia, Alder, Diantha, Steven, Lance (even though Lance takes his title more seriously than Steven and Diantha, not to say Steven and Diantha don’t acknowledge their title as champion)
Technically, Red is undefeated, since canonically, you can lose while fighting him in any games...

Maximus Craig she’s definitely hardest I’ve fought. Her team as a whole isn’t terribly tough until you get to Garchomp. I’d say Leon’s team is overall harder than her team but Garchomp is harder than anything he’s got imo.

My first time ever reaching Cynthia I was out of power points, my entire team was fainted except my empoleon, and all I had left was the move cut. Then she threw out spiritomb and I cried alittle because I had no way to hurt it.
The Arcues event was released in HGSS. You had to get it at a Toy R Us for your DPPt game. But then again that was in the USA

I'm nostalgic about Steven Stone because my original Sapphire game was like the first one I ever played through while feeling like I knew what I was doing. My best friend and I played together, we chipped in and got the Prima's guide and would share it and try to find all the cool Pokemon and stuff. Beating Steven with his tough Steel types seemed so difficult back in 2003!

Dialga makes her easy, one roar of time and garchomp dies. That's why I don't like using legendaries, it makes everything easy.
@@SpiritedFalcon Provided it doesn't outspeed you and hit you with an earthquake. Her Lucario could also use fighting attacks to take it out (Dialga's steel typing was the only place it held weaknesses). Most of my teams biggest weakness back then was either electric, ground, or fighting types and it took multiple attempts to finally beat her due to the team being a bit under leveled by the time I got to the elite 4.

Great Stuff. She's just the best. Her design suits me personally. 1) super long ankle length hair 2) beautiful black clothing 3) all her Pokemon are ones I love and personally use (with the exception of Togekiss which I dislike the design of, so not love just like...) anyway her physical appearance is also a factor. I think she's the best champion personally. She's the most like my alter ego and personal versions of being a Pokemon trainer so I also feel close to her for that reason too.
12:30 You tell me, first time I fought her I had Dialga with me. It made it out of the fight either in the red or a few HP away from it. My Tortera was the only other pokemon on my team to not be fainted by the end of the fight, and it was in the same predicament as Dialga.
I'm almost certain I had a Staraptor and a Luxrai with Intimidate (not sure if it was in platinum that I first cheesed her Garchomp by switching between two 'mons with Intimidate, and even then it still hit like a truck), my good old Bibarell, who, like the other non legendary members of my team, had been in it since the beginning and despite being my HM slave still pulled its weight, and not ONLY as a quick sacrifice switch, and I genuinely don't remember my last pokemon. Might have been a Floatzel, that or a Rampardos. It was my first pokemon game and I had no clue how to evolve Riolu, if I had I would have had a Lucario on my team, just because even before I even knew how to get it it was my favourite pokemon (it still is as a matter of fact).
I also had no clue that trying to get my Tortera to solo Candace was a bad idea, so judge 10 year old me accordingly. Before anyone asks, it worked, but it was very much an uphill battle. Like battling the second gym with nothing but my then Grotle. Or the subsequent Eterna City Team Galactic hideout. Pretty sure I remember my Grotle evolving from fighting Jupiter. I don't think I used any other pokemon until that point, despite basically having a full team two badges prior.

The way I beat her in pokemon Pearl was to spam revives while my abomasnow’s hail chipped her down.

6:49 On my last run of Platinum, I went out of my way to get a Spiritomb for my team and I didn't regret it. I ended up with Infernape, Azumaril, Roserade, Steelix, Spiritomb, and Staraptor. I excavated for shards to have great moves, I charged through the less important NPCs, but when I faced Cynthia, I STILL ended up having to spam Revives and I just felt completely defeated. Though I suppose I shouldn't feel too bad about it since, of course, she also used Full Restores.
An example of a great female character by you know, making her interesting and well written along with being a extremely powerful trainer who earned the right to be called the best Pokemon Champion in the games. Characters like Rey and Captain Marvel could learn from her.

Leon's team is also much more beastlike than Cynthia
He has a better pseudo legendary and the rest of his team has more heavy hitters like haxorus and rillaboom
And let's not forget the currently banned cinderace( it's the only champion pokemon in ubers other than zekrom/reshiram)
@@milesandrews6711 Well Garchomp was in ubers Gen 4, and is still viable to this day. Not many pokemon can claim being in Ou or for 4(technically 5 but 4 since it's still mid gen 8) straight generations in a row.
@@verximama828 yeah it was ubers in Gen 4, the gen where there was arguably the lease power creep, afterwards it just stayed in ou the entire time and even currently it's kinda outclassed by Lando t in every role other than defensive Rocky helmet just because it has rough skin
Always liked that Pokémon champions teams always include Pokémon that are rare or difficult to obtain. Example Cynthia’s team in DP had a Milotic, which was hard to get before the prism scale, a Lucario, which there is only one in the whole game, a Spiritomb that can only be obtained using the wifi connection in the underground and a Garchomp, a pseudo legendary that takes a lot of time to get it to evolve. Lance had 3 Dragonites, a Charizard, a starter that was no way available in the game unless you trade, and an Aerodactyl, in which can only be obtained if you revived an old amber which isn’t in the game, or in game trade, all in his original GSC lineup and switched it up to include a Salamence and Garchomp in HGSS. Leon had the only Charizard in the whole Galar region, a pseudo legendary Dragapult and the only other starter Pokémon. Diantha had a difficult to evolve pseudo legendary Goodra, both rare fossil Pokémon and a Mega Gardevoir.
I one hit knocked out Garchomp with roar of time by Dialga in my first diamond gameplay.
After it whenever I have encountered Cynthia's Garchomp(In platinum or unova games) he always knock out my 2 or 3 pokemon easily.It seems like he always want to take revenge of that insult from me🙂🙂

Her Rematch Garchomp from Platinum outseed my Rayquaza until that was like in its mid 80s....that monster is fast.
Ugh! She made me want to rip my hair out! I remember getting so frustrated and thinking; ‘if I only had my Dragonite, you would PAY!’. Too bad I had to beat her before I could transfer my Dragonite from emerald version, 😂. Today tho, those memories are quite precious to me...and Cynthia is now my favorite trainer in the series; she kicks ass in the games, she’s adorable in the manga, and down right hilarious in the anime...’one Bearticone, please.’ 🤣🥰
I beat her first try mainly because of luck. I was crushing her team until her last pokemon garchomp, it one shotted 3 members of my team lol, the only reason I won was because dragon rush missed and I got a crit with giga drain.
Just finished a Platinum playthrough today and I have to say that Flint's Infernape and Lucian's Alakzam/Espeon caused me more trouble than any of the members of Cynthia's team...but I guess that bringing a Weavile helped alot (My levels were between 49 - Heracross and 59 - Infernape so I didn't really grinded )
Loved your video!!! My favorite champion was always Steven! His steel types gave me a real challenge during his time. I was pretty unprepared for it. Also he has some serious class and has a very straight forward style which I really respect. Also I like the Elite 4 under Steven more. Just my opinion. However Cynthia will always have my respect but never really challenge me since my team always had an answer for her Pokémon!
Taking on the elete 4 in ORAS with a dangerously underleveled team, with the only super effective move being brick break on a Grovyle, I would have to agree with that. Must’ve taken me at least 20 attempts to beat him lol

Don't forget that Cynthia's Roserade has Extrasensory, which is an Egg Move that can only be passed down by Nuzleaf and Shiftry, neither of which can be found in Sinnoh (unless you connect it to Ruby). That's yet another thing that Cynthia has over you.

Sygna Suits are custom made by a mysterious fashion designer on Pasio that we have yet to meet... They made one for Brock (and his Tyranitar), one for Red (and Charizard), one for Elesa (and Rotom), one for Grimsley (and Sharpedo, its very dapper) and now Cynthia. We also know that Leaf and Blue have one coming, due to the 6 month anniversary trailer (to go with their Mega Venusaur and Mega Blastoise!). I'm sure that designer could make you one that would suit you even more!

I think it can be at least agreed that the new games are easier than some of the older generations, which is more what my comment was getting at. A remake of Platinum in the modern style of Pokemon would be far easier than the original, and, at least in the case of Cynthia's fight, would take away from the weight of it

While Alder is my favorite for personal reasons, Cynthia is definitely the best champion of all the games’ champions.
I like her the most because she was one of the first to feel like both a real person with interests outside being champion like Steven while still getting stuff done when the villains attack like Lance (to a slightly less extent because the game still has to give the player the real challenges for it to work as a game... she could have totally defeated Cyrus if you failed). She also has the cutest personality where she'll go from serious to silly in seconds because of her imposing presence in anime being mostly a misconception.

Cynthia is a personal favorite of mine just for the fact that even going back to platinum in 2024 she still gives my teams a run for the money every time, even with the best coverage I have there’s just something about her that throws me off my game and I love it
I miss the power hike Cynthia always caught me off gaurd. It also feels in lore level 80-85 is red level power 70-80 is unheard of outside of battle facilities and i guess Red and Blue were relaxing in Alola and not pushing too hard as they drop to 70s.60-70 is veterans and Rematches where you go all out.
Meanwhile Cynthia got 17,000 of my gems 😭 but i got 1/5. She has beaten me in game and financially.
I love Cynthia and have very vivid memories of my fight against her, I got her down to Garchomp and ultimately lost so badly that I had to ask my older brother to battle her for me, of which I was quite ashamed to do back then.
Cant wait to lose to Cynthia in the diamond and pearl remakes, Ive never wanted to lose a battle so much haha. Especially since pokemon has become so easy lately

Although I first heard of Cynthia in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl anime series, I’ve first met her in Pokémon Black. Then again in Black 2. And then, I met her again in Pokémon Sun. I like her a lot. Her character has influenced me to become stronger as I possibly can.

You just arrived at Undella Town. In Summer there is some activity, but it's Spring right now, so there's not much to do right now.
There are a few rich persons i the giant mansion that wants to battle. It's great to fill your pocket, but not much of a challenge.
Then you enter a random house... And the music start to play.
That Piano, that crazy piano immediately brings you back to another life you experienced so many years ago. Or maybe, this is your first time through a Pokemon game, but instinctly, you know. This is not any ordinary trainer.
Cynthia is there, simply chilling. She's amiable, and let you take your time to prepare for battle, but the tension in the air is so thick it could be cut back with a knife. You check your team, and prepare for the hardest battle you'll ever face. You're not likely to win that first encounter, because she's stronger than any other trainer in this game.
And that's how you build a legend. Cynthia would be iconic enough if she appeared one, but she come back, game after game, reaffirming her legend, showing new generations of players what she's made off.
Just make her garchomp mega evolve and we all are dead

I haven't fought Cynthia since the first time....many years ago.
That said, the only Champion I can recall giving me a hard time was Iris in B2.
iris battle can go 2 ways you beat her all of her pokemon easily then she throws out the haxours and uses dragondance with focus sash as a held item you knock her down 1 hp and either she uses a full restore and gets one shot or she goes on the offensive and starts wiping your team lol
Blue is a close second, but she takes that win from brutal difficulty alone. Her being so tough just makes her more memorable
